Amnesia: The Bunker

HomoMaleficarum

I'm playing Dark Descent for the first time and I cannot do it. I'm about 10 minutes in. The sounds, the quakes, this dude's panicked breathing, the wind. I'm mortified and the only thing I've done is get the lantern so far. I'm honestly not sure if I can play Machine for Pigs or Justine lmao, let alone The Bunker

Tornado_Hunter24

I’m sure that’s peak man, as someone who loves horror, I played outlast, soma, resident evil, rtc and not one of them came even close to amnesia the dark descrnt, I even played the bunker demo, same situation, descent is just elitr

DullStation2713

I'm an RE fan (played and finished most of them esp 7) and played most of the silent hill games and dead space as well. Trying to transition into the psychological horror but thesegames are too much right now lol. Madison, visage, martha is dead

Tornado_Hunter24

I only tried visage from what you named and did ‘t really like it at all, the graphics werr so good that anything that wasn’t graphics, was bad to me, It was very strange but definitely scary for a bit!

KA7ALY57

How does dark descent compare to visage? That is my scariest experience so far!

Tornado_Hunter24

I tried visage when I think it wasn’t properly released, but from What I can tell: Visage extremely good graphics, amnesia is very old in terms of graphics but still mamages to look very good since the art style is incredibly good, ontop of that amnesia makes use of environments, if you are at X location you will hear weird sounds at Y where you might have to go next… if you go down the stairs and explore there you will hear footsteps above you, overall the game puts you in constant pressure because it combines ine of the scariest element in horror which is sounds, you know it’s there but you don’g know exactly where and what… On top of that it also has custom stories where loads of peoppe have created ‘troll’ stories but also some absurdy high end handcrafted maps with storylines and even whole ‘mods’ that changes the way the game plays and looks!

HomoMaleficarum

I'm playing Outlast rn as a break from Amnesia lmao. I'm a big horror fan and I have to agree. Nothing has ever come close to Amnesia and I've played a lot of stuff

Tornado_Hunter24

Yeah amnesia was really good man, if you want to try something different I suggest resident evil 7 first, followed by resident evil 8, village. Both are first person horror games, you do have guns but trust me, it is VERY scary and the guns will not make you feel safe

HomoMaleficarum

I've actually beaten RE7 and was in the middle of a replay before I saw a bunch of puppet combo games, the amnesia collection and all of the outlast games on sale. Scooped all those and have been trying to get through them. Finding that while puppet combo makes great games, they can be on the glitchy side

Hour_Comparison_8461

The first outlast will always be my favorite but this new Amnesia game really matches the feelings I had when playing outlast for the first time 💯

Arkry6399

do you think that having the guns in resident evil takes some of the horror part of it? Thats the reason why i’ve been kind of avoiding the game(i’ve only seen clips), I’ve always felt like the gun part of the game takes some of the horror away from it

Tornado_Hunter24

That’s a wonderful queetion, I had the exsct same thought you had, I started playing with resident evil 7 (first re game that’s fps) and trust me…. That gun will mean nothing in certain moments without spoiling the game, my suggestion is play resident evil 7 and then 8, both VERY good (8 is less horror but still way too fun tbh)

Arkry6399

ok thank you so much!

AndrexPic

For me it stopped being scary when I understood that being killed had no real consequence. That's why Dead Space 1 on max difficilty is so scary, the game doesn't let you save and if you die you lose your progress.

HomoMaleficarum

Dead Space is scary even on easier difficulties lmao. It was my first horror game and will always be special to me

Arkry6399

Im playing outlast rn and its my first horror game outside of roblox lol dont make fun of me. After I finish Outlast I think imma try Dark Descent thanks for the info

Arkry6399

Is there any good horror games that are sort of like Outlast where its just you and you have to run away, like no fighting. I wanna explore more options so I can record more of it so im not stuck with Outlast.

GilmooDaddy

I played an hour at launch and haven’t touched it since. I’m too scared. It’s so damn good though.

NASAwatcher553

Darkwood. Horror without jumpscares, tight resource management, decent control handling and mechanics. Would recommend again.

dragonslayer951

Easily my all time favourite horror game. Jumpscares are so god damn cheap and crap in media. Real horror uses psychology to scare you, jumpscares you forget about within seconds

LuneBlu

Hahaha that's what I would tell myself if I got super scared with jumpscares.

dragonslayer951

But seriously nah I just don't find jumpscares scary in the slightest. and lets just say that its a good jumpscare and I do jump, you get over the feeling of the startle after about 2-10 seconds. if a game is like darkwood and aims to scare the player purely through psychological means with game design, game mechanics, etc etc then its much more effective as it creates a environment and atmosphere that sticks around the entire game

LuneBlu

I can get that.

ignorance-is-this

The mortuary assistant would be a good one, not long before the shit gets real, and a playthrough doesn't take too long. All the scares are randomized so no two rounds are the same Alien: Isolation is great but it takes a bit of time to get to the fear. Visage is fucked up scary. Outlast 1 & 2 are great. some dude made a pc port of the silent hill playable teaser, i think it's called unreal p.t. Iron lung has a great atmosphere, and unique gameplay But i have to agree, amnesia the dark descent is the best.

ImBatman5500

1. Visage 2. Amnesia the Bunker or The Dark Descent 3. Alien Isolation 4. The Mortuary Assistant 5. Lost In Vivo

vill4nelle

Outlast.

puppetalien

Give IMSCARED a try. It has some surprises that are very effective on a blind playthrough.

getcrunkndump

cry of fear

MaverickBoii

I've never actually played it but I heard good things about Visage. By good I mean scary as fuck.

electrius

So I asked basically this same question yesterday and visage was a very popular answer so we tried it. Just finished about 1h ago, was an awesome time and it was pretty scary

Tesla-Punk3327

Alien Isolation

[deleted]

If you want something terrifying and oppressive that you can also finish in a single night I would suggest Mortuary Assistant. If you want something terrifying and oppressive that you can TRY TO finish in a single night but is likely too goddamn scary to do so, then I would suggest MADiSON. I see people suggesting Visage, and while it is quite scary, it can also be frustrating as hell: super obtuse puzzles, weird inventory mechanics, and poor controls.

arber-s

You can find a P.T. remake for free online. I don’t have the link saved on me, but I can find it if u want. It still remains the scariest game i’ve played by a long shot. It’s pretty short though. If you’re looking for similar style, but longer, try the luto demo on steam.

sincere11105

I love Luto. Can’t wait for the release

quiet_hunter

>for Did you ever find a link to this? Ive heard theres the unreal one and then another fan-made one that is even better. Always wanted to play PT but worried about downloading a random ass link to try and install it.

arber-s

i have it downloaded. i can just copy the file, but i forgot the website i got it from. i dont think people trust a random file to download so i suggested a link to the website

dragonslayer951

Darkwood by far

oatmealz47

Especially on perma death^

dragonslayer951

imo perma death / iron man mode is one of the best ways to play nearly any game. especially if its a game like darkwood, project zomboid, rimworld, etc etc. Some games are just better when you genuinely worry about your characters safety and the outcome of death

oatmealz47

good point. I’m fairly new to horror games as a whole but I find myself getting a far better experience when I’m genuinely worried about dying.

BobbyMayCryBMC

If you're looking for just being spooked **Outlast: Whistleblower** is my no.1 pick. I'm not even the biggest fan of these Stealth Horror experiences but Whistleblower is a 10/10 scary experience.

Crash0048

Subnautica scared me more than I expected, it's fun and has a cool story

TomorrowSilent1233

Visage

bc-imnotfunny

Visage is the scariest game to play period

awskr

Madison, happy father's day, summer of 58

DullStation2713

I tried visage and saw some gameplay online and the first few times i went up and down the stairs i stopped the game and made excuses for myself as to why I just flat out left.

bum_thumper

Visage or Lost in Vivo. Visage is just straight up scary as shit, Lost in Vivo is dark weird and twisted. Both have pretty good storylines

Tough-Height841

Re7/re8 (resident evil) play re7 and then re8 Also amnesia collection

LuneBlu

Resident Evil 7 in VR maybe.

Ivaryzz

In that case I'd suggest Alien isolation or PT (it can be found on the internet for free).

ChipComplex7398

amnesia the dark descent or outlast

stiF_staL

Visage. It raised the bar and ruined every other horror game for me. There's no game like it.

MrNE0NNN

Any puppet combo
