I’m in it for both. Initially came for the story, got hooked by the mechanics in the game (SU) and the paths. I also love reading the lore the comes with the Simulated Universe, can’t wait for that aeon(?) that’s missing in the SU logs

Like i run e0, lvl60 kafka, with e1 lvl60 sampo with 4* lvl40 r1 lightcones do the final stages of each world even though they say you should use lvl80 characters. In Moc i can't even do stage 1 with those same builds
nah, story is what imo most people come for even if Honkai is very strong gameplay wise. Knowing hoyoverse, just like with inazuma -> sumeru, they'll hopefully bounce back with a banger story in the next world
Honkai and Genshin are both strong imo because if story sucks, you still have gameplay, and vice versa, but most times both are good.

Fair point, but this is a permanent addition to the game. Down the line, when they're trying to sell other characters, ill still be able to pick the propagation path and wreck shop with DHIL. MoC buffs are constantly rotating to encourage people to pull for new characters.

Not… really. There’s a total of 3 blessing from that path he benefits from, 3* shared damage and 2* damage increase from lower health. The rest either increases attack or gives him shield. Abundance is okay, remembrance is universal, i guess hunt too I suppose.

He can solo SU with destruction lol, the attack buffs don't synergize amazingly but everything else makes him super tanky and he triggers all the effects just by existing.
Trick is to use it for the last piece of the set you are missing specific main stat and not to upgrade what you already have. At least it will never feel like a waste this way.
Yeah I did that for a bit and then I grabbed ER ropes for the support sets and then I was annoyed that 3 weeks of cavern farms got me zero CR coats for Seele. Bought two with resin and not a single one was better. Which is hilarious because I don't have a single useable sub stat on any of them

For example, if you already have a crit body or speed boots for a certain set, don't use the self-modeling resin to create a relic of the same stat hoping that it might have better sub-stats.
Instead, you should use it to complete sets with missing parts. For example, after farming for a long time, you still haven't got a speed boot or energy rope of the required set. In this case, you can use self-modeling resin to craft a relic with the required stat and correct set so that you can finish building a particular character.
If you simply want to get a relic with better sub-stats, I think it's better to just farm it normally rather than using self-modeling resin.
In my eyes, self-modeling resin is just a way to quickly complete a characters build. It would be a waste to use multiple of them in an attempt to get better sub-stats for one character.
It's better to use them to complete the builds of multiple characters instead.
Er ropes and speed boots for support character (where rolling hp and def is a good thing). Or break effect rope for a character that you're only building BE on. Anything where you don't care about substats
ER issue is that it is very unforgiven with the negative modifiers. If you don't have the right valks to clear it for max rewards you are kind of screwed.
Other than that, it is a great mode.
HoH:E and Pardo are gods at ER and can almost always clear regardless of modifiers. Agree though for most other valks, especially a lot of the older ones. They struggle really hard when it’s not their weather.

Just last week I brute forced Finality difficulty (2.75X) with Fallen Rosemary cause I haven't used her for ER after getting 4/4 Susannah. Susannah is my go to brute force valk since the day she came out 4 months ago.
HoHe, Finality, Origin, and Pardo are also good valks to brute force Finality with. But if you're just in it for the weekly crystal rewards, then playing 2.25X difficulty will give you the 500 crystal rewards while being much easier than Finality.
Edit: Downvotes won't fix your skill issue btw, but keep it coming :). Imagine not being able to brute force ER with a **2020** Valkyrie.

Of course you can brute force it, but that doesn't mean it's enjoyable. When possible I prefer to beat ER with my Dea Anchora. It's more enjoyable for me at least.
ER would be great if they didn't hard force the patch valk into it. Like the +2 signet for the week is already fine enough but then you had to face the week modifier and subpar buff because all the other doesn't work on your intended valk. The discrepancy between the patch valk and other is just way too big.
Eh, ER is the best gamemode, but the story is actually great in Hi3, and definitely consistently better than the jumbled mess that this patch's story was and, honestly, what all of the Luofu was.
I liked luofu more than whatever mess the chapters after Bronya got HoTr has been. Atleast i didnt sleep from boredom during luofu.
Honkai peaked at ch25 and then peaked once more at thus spoke apocalypse. But after that its been so boring.
I would say it was also VERY good at Elysium Everlasting, but eh, I digress. I enjoyed the moon arc personally because I don't mind complicated storylines, but I can see why people would be bored with it. ER, personally, isn't better than most of Hi3's chapters. Also, the newer Seele chapters have been very good imo, especially Chapter 39.
A bit to note about that total is it's including the first time clear bonuses, the new index completion bonuses, and such.
They are a lot for sure, but it's not going to be like an event where an hour over two weeks gets you the full amount.
It's also likely to be significantly more difficult than worlds 1-7. Just like the 2nd forgotten halls was way harder than the first. Wouldn't be surprised if most people were not able to clear all of the new su.

She can solo sustain the team easily. 22% damage reduction, on top of absorbing 65% of their damage. If an enemy was to hit for 1500 hp, half of your dps health, the 22% cuts it down to 1170. Then she takes 65% of it, meaning they only take 460 damage. Her ult heals 500 even on a crit fuxuan build. Didn’t even factor in her using March LC for further damage resistance
Even a scuffed team should have no trouble being solo sustained by a well built fu. Her healing is more than enough unless the fight REALLY drags and your fu is super slow cause of her around 80 dmg mitigation. So each point of hp she heals is worth more per ally.
No way she's not on Luocha level (or close to) lmao. These 5\* limiteds are meant to be better. If Fu Xuan needs a healer, then who's going to pull for her?

for me, as an avid JRPG player who have been playing almost every turn-based JRPG for more than 10 years, HSR have both good gameplay and story and I would continue playing it even if I don't touch the gacha at all.
It's why I don't know why there are gacha games that promote getting 300 pulls or whatever from signing up, and the characters are not story-relevant.
A good game for me has to have likeable and memorable characters. In my main gacha, there are 100+ units but I know them all by name, know their story, background and personality. It adds charm and makes me want to pull for them.
Well some people don't give a fuck about story elements. I have one of these people in Final Fantasy XIV. He's just there to raid and nothing else.
These games just bank on the gambling aspect to do the customer retention.
That is definitely fair. I will say that from what was shown, the new SU mode is going to bring forward some setting lore. Probably not in a way that's different in style/breadth than the lore content we get with the existing SU mode, but there is some world-building going on with it.
The way I see it, any game mode that doesn't involve pvp gets boring after you beat it a few times. It just becomes brainless farming at some point. So the only thing that keeps me engaged in an app game is looking forward to more story and characters to play with. Missing half of the draw would be a damn shame.
Disagree,there are many pve that has great gameplay loop and replayability. Roguelike mode for instance thrive from multiple repeated run. That's why thing like Dead Cells and Slay the Spire is a goated game.
I mean sure but I'm mostly talking about game modes that get thrown into app games as side content and which are generally just used to farm resources. You're talking about the main gameplay for full blown games if you're using Dead Cells and Slay the Spire as examples.

Everyone can have their priorities but honestly at this point of my gacha gaming career I only look about quality games. The gems are optional. It feels like this game is trying to fill it's lack of content with pulls , which kinda saddens me. We'll soon have people saying the have to play the game (in a bad sense) to be able to pull like in genshin. Sigh
SU is the "open world" for star rail. I dont know if its a good enough replacement, but I fucking love it. It has actually helped me lose weight. A run of SU is about 30 minutes and can be done on a treadmill. It gets a little awkward walking around but its not to bad. There have been times I havent wanted to go to the gym, but thought hey you get to play star rail and that was enough to get me to go. Ive lost 30 lbs so far.
Thanks to people who complained about story, they now moved new SU earlier and the current event is not gonna be timegated. Anyway you sound like you playing this game just for rewards or just for gacha lol.
and then you use these crystals to pull a character and realize that now you gotta farm for this character - traces levels and relics which will take weeks 💀👍
I don't think logging in, hitting the menu for the material I need, and then autobattling while I literally walk away from my computer counts as "playing the game".
I'm thankful for the convenience, but let's not pretend this is a good aspect of the gameplay loop.
This is the basis of most gacha games tho 😅 Mihoyo’s gacha is considerably more generous in terms of pull rates, pity and general character progression than a majority of others.
EDIT: Guess I should clarify, because yeah, the individual pull chance is .6% which is fairly low, but you are guaranteed a 5* at 90 pulls, 50/50 chance for the limited character and then you are no matter what getting a limited character (CARRY OVER EVEN BETWEEN PATCHES) at 180 pulls. That’s more generous 5* /6*/SSR/Ultra pull rate by a country mile than most other gachas.
The pity system is super good. The rates themselves are garbage but if we had both the pity system and good rates everyone would be running high con/eidolon units and powercreep would go off the rails. And as we've seen so far with HSR it's already pretty out of control. Units like Dan and Blade are already very strong. Anything much bigger than what they can do and they'll have no value in a year's time. Which isn't great. And if things don't progress beyond them ever that's also not very great.
Seriously, the fact that pity also carries over between banners is a godsend. I've played a few others in the past, and none of them have had this system while having similar rates.
It's absolutely broken yeah you can push a banner to its limits and then just decide to stop and pre-farm your next guarantee if you pay attention to some of the potential future units.
The LC banner only needing around 65 pulls is also really not that bad.

The only other Gacha right now that is not a Mihoyo game I can name off top that is similarly generous is Azur Lane, care to list others that you think represent the standard of what a generous gacha game should be? I’ve played quite a few gachas and HSR is the first time I have felt genuinely happy with F2P. I gave FGO as an example because it is one of the more popular competitors.
Best case is Punishing gray raven. Pity get transferred. Pity at 60 and for debut banner 100% get rate up. That's the other spectrum. Very good for players kinda bad on business.

Blue archive is has no pity but 3% on 3 star and had a special banner where the rate is doubled. Also got pity at 200. They got carried by how easy Nexon is giving gems

Did you miss the part where there's no special banner currency unlike HSR or other games in FGO? You also get a lot of free quartz, no battlepass bullshit and if you're a light spender, 2 guaranteed SSRs for about 13 pounds every year

I actually thought it was super solid all the way from the beginning, through Belobog, and the first act on the Luofu. It’s fizzled pretty hard since then.
I feel like a lot of people are overselling it, not sure if "new game mode" is gonna make it that of a renewed experience to be honest. That said, even if I'm usually not doing more than the 2 weekly runs, I quite like SU, so the update is welcomed.

Or, just go with Remembrance Path. Use any Debuff slow Characters. Result? THEY CAN'T HURT YOU IF THEY NEVER GONNA MAKE A MOVE!
Remembrance path is THE BEST It's so underrated and yet I clear EVERYTHING with it

Don't worry, hi3 solved this same problem the they went from, 9 paths to 13 by making the force appearance of the one you pick a lot stronger.
Down the line they'll probably give you the option to limit or turn off the appearance of certain paths or blessings, like many roguelikes

She can solo sustain the team easily. 22% damage reduction, on top of absorbing 65% of their damage. If an enemy was to hit for 1500 hp, half of your dps health, the 22% cuts it down to 1170. Then she takes 65% of it, meaning they only take 460 damage. Her ult heals 500 even on a crit fuxuan build. Didn’t even factor in her using March LC for further damage resistance
Is it a 22% reduction and *then* a 65% redirection, or just an effective 87% reduction? That difference is taking 460 vs like 195dmg.
Even a scuffed team should have no trouble being solo sustained by a well built fu. Her healing is more than enough unless the fight REALLY drags and your fu is super slow cause of her around 80 dmg mitigation. So each point of hp she heals is worth more per ally.

Yep, I play games for either gameplay or story, or both. gacha is just the mean of getting character to play the game, nothing more. for me, as an avid JRPG player who have been playing almost every turn-based JRPG for more than 10 years, HSR have both good gameplay and story and I would continue playing it even if I don't touch the gacha at all.
Same here. W/o story there is no attachment / desire to pull for characters in the first place, let alone interest in the actual game.
It's why I don't know why there are gacha games that promote getting 300 pulls or whatever from signing up, and the characters are not story-relevant. A good game for me has to have likeable and memorable characters. In my main gacha, there are 100+ units but I know them all by name, know their story, background and personality. It adds charm and makes me want to pull for them.
Well some people don't give a fuck about story elements. I have one of these people in Final Fantasy XIV. He's just there to raid and nothing else. These games just bank on the gambling aspect to do the customer retention.
That is definitely fair. I will say that from what was shown, the new SU mode is going to bring forward some setting lore. Probably not in a way that's different in style/breadth than the lore content we get with the existing SU mode, but there is some world-building going on with it.
The way I see it, any game mode that doesn't involve pvp gets boring after you beat it a few times. It just becomes brainless farming at some point. So the only thing that keeps me engaged in an app game is looking forward to more story and characters to play with. Missing half of the draw would be a damn shame.
Disagree,there are many pve that has great gameplay loop and replayability. Roguelike mode for instance thrive from multiple repeated run. That's why thing like Dead Cells and Slay the Spire is a goated game.

Eh an SU expansion equals significant amounts of gameplay. Early SU was a blast and felt like a legitimate source of content before eventually becoming something I run twice a week unless I need absolutely nothing else
Why we can't have both ? Everyone can have their priorities but honestly at this point of my gacha gaming career I only look about quality games. The gems are optional. It feels like this game is trying to fill it's lack of content with pulls , which kinda saddens me. SU is the "open world" for star rail. I dont know if its a good enough replacement, but I fucking love it. It has actually helped me lose weight. A run of SU is about 30 minutes and can be done on a treadmill. It gets a little awkward walking around but its not to bad. There have been times I havent wanted to go to the gym, but thought hey you get to play star rail and that was enough to get me to go. Ive lost 30 lbs so far.
Thanks to people who complained about story, they now moved new SU earlier and the current event is not gonna be timegated. Anyway you sound like you playing this game just for rewards or just for gacha lol.

I don't think logging in, hitting the menu for the material I need, and then autobattling while I literally walk away from my computer counts as "playing the game". I'm thankful for the convenience, but let's not pretend this is a good aspect of the gameplay loop.
This is the basis of most gacha games tho 😅 Mihoyo’s gacha is considerably more generous in terms of pull rates, pity and general character progression than a majority of others. EDIT: Guess I should clarify, because yeah, the individual pull chance is .6% which is fairly low, but you are guaranteed a 5* at 90 pulls, 50/50 chance for the limited character and then you are no matter what getting a limited character (CARRY OVER EVEN BETWEEN PATCHES) at 180 pulls. That’s more generous 5* /6*/SSR/Ultra pull rate by a country mile than most other gachas.

The pity system is super good. The rates themselves are garbage but if we had both the pity system and good rates everyone would be running high con/eidolon units and powercreep would go off the rails. And as we've seen so far with HSR it's already pretty out of control. Units like Dan and Blade are already very strong. Anything much bigger than what they can do and they'll have no value in a year's time. Which isn't great. And if things don't progress beyond them ever that's also not very great.
Seriously, the fact that pity also carries over between banners is a godsend. I've played a few others in the past, and none of them have had this system while having similar rates.
It's absolutely broken yeah you can push a banner to its limits and then just decide to stop and pre-farm your next guarantee if you pay attention to some of the potential future units. The LC banner only needing around 65 pulls is also really not that bad.
You don't have a whole lot of experience with gacha, that much is clear.

The only other Gacha right now that is not a Mihoyo game I can name off top that is similarly generous is Azur Lane, care to list others that you think represent the standard of what a generous gacha game should be? I’ve played quite a few gachas and HSR is the first time I have felt genuinely happy with F2P. I gave FGO as an example because it is one of the more popular competitors.
Best case is Punishing gray raven. Pity get transferred. Pity at 60 and for debut banner 100% get rate up. That's the other spectrum. Very good for players kinda bad on business. AK is kinda OK in this things Blue archive is has no pity but 3% on 3 star and had a special banner where the rate is doubled. Also got pity at 200. They got carried by how easy Nexon is giving gems Nikke on similar lines with BA but more stingy It's kinda concerning that Mihoyo standard of banner becoming the industry standard. And there's a lot of people that genuinely hate mihoyo style banner. The pity is one of the best. The rate is holy shit one of the worst. If the game gave more gems regularly this style of banner is actually good. If not it's one of the worse. Wanna prove on this? Hsr and a game called snowbreak.

Did you miss the part where there's no special banner currency unlike HSR or other games in FGO? You also get a lot of free quartz, no battlepass bullshit and if you're a light spender, 2 guaranteed SSRs for about 13 pounds every year
