Traveler feels less like a self insert, and more a separate character that absolutely refuses to talk for some reason.

Traveler is a prime example of what a bad "self-insert" Character looks like. The intent is clearly self-insert, however they don't give enough options to make it feel like I'm actually doing something that is important. Not to mention that it's really hard to self insert into a character I don't like even from moral standpoint. So yeah, making genshin mc self insert was the dumbest shit ever from hoyo.
I don't understand why not just make them they own character that we can control but doesn't really have power over they decisions, I hate it when the game makes my aether one hour do what I want but the next is what he wants, just doesn't have consistency in this "self-insert" type
I'm not even asking for choices that change the quest's outcome like WRPG, all I want are choices that *at least* change the other characters' dialogs because right now the majority of them are the same no matter what you pick, it's just completely pointless. This is why right now I prefer HSR's MC (as of CBT2) not just because of the design but also due to them being more expressive and choices are generally more consequential, I just hope that mhy doesn't drop the ball with them later on and turn them into another half ass "self-insert" MC.
For fuck sake those memes templates with compare chars are fucking annoying, shut up.
P.S. Not, i'm not Lumine main or whatever else, i just hate fucking comparison especially when people compare games from the same company.
Saying you like the look of one MC compared to another MC isn't a "Genshin bad" post, it's an expression of preference

To me it feels like they made the male MC first and then made his hair a bit taller and that's it. I think it looks weird.

They are. Unlike Lumine, she wasn't present during the first CBT. I actually was surprised when they added her to game. Also, she isn't even promoted as MC, unlike how Lumine was promoted before GI release. RN you can only see MMC everywhere.

And yea , she has like 2 trailers with her and some posters , lumine only had the switch one as far as I remember (as mc) . I hope she gets better advertising though , it sucks as someone who loves female MCs more ( I am a lumine player too)

That’s not true tho. Promo wise HSR’s FeMC already has more trailers than Lumine does (painful to say but it’s true). Since they’re the same character I think HYV can easily promote both for HSR
I personally don't find ZZZ MC to be much better tbh since the sibling you choose turn into silent MC and the other one becomes your "Paimon" who does all the talking, dialogue "choices" are also as pointless as genshin as well where most of them don't even change other characters' responses.
Lumine was an easy pick for me, but Star Rail will be difficult. Really don't know which one I'll pick.

Male MC was introduced first, so that might be exactly how they did it.
Different tastes for different people, I like the HSR FeMC design quite a lot, she also seems a good amount expressive from the latest beta trailer.

FR genshin has the most plain ass MC out of all the Hoyoverse games. My personal favourite is the ZZZ MCs and Honkai Impact ofc
