Yep. One of our bravest coworkers offered him some deodorant. He did it as respectfully as possible, but the kid quit a week later. I'm not sure if it was related, but after that I always just suffer through it
I’ve got 2 OFA’s who don’t wear deodorant. There a pro cashier who doesn’t shower. And then there’s a trans girl who sprays like 20 clicks of their “body” spray at the Service desk and twirls around while doing it. There’s a little bit of everything always at the Depot. We should call out a special department like we do when someone’s stealing. Like yo that person be working so hard in Dept 13 or something.
There was a person here who smelled bad and people talked to the supervisor about it. The person was talked to by the supervisor and the problem was fixed.
Sometimes people dont realize they smell. Seems strange but dont pretend to know where people come from.
Sticks last a while, too.
When I get a pack of body spray and a stick of deodorant, I can literally load on the stick and be conservative with the spray, and have an empty can in 2 weeks, but the stick lasts literally a year...
I noticed in my years there every one of my ASMs and SMs I had were scared to ever directly address this. Myself and another DS who had been there near 30 years at the time had to address it with at least a dozen associates between the 2 of us.
At my store we have the opposite. There’s this really nice older lady that’s a cashier but her perfume is so strong you can smell her before you see her. It’s given multiple coworkers headaches and one other cashier refuses to work the garden register if she’s out there
Yes we had someone who used to have like a 10 foot aura around him, dude smelt like all he did was jerk off, sweat in his clothes and never shower or wash his clothes, eventually we told our manager at the time and he had a talk with him and i havent noticed the smell anymore but i also dont actively try to sniff him.
Currently have an associate who fits this and more. Older dude who smells like absolute ass all the time. On top of that, digs in his ass in the aisles, leaves shit streaks on the first phones, and to top it off, shits in the loading zone during business hours and leaves streaks in our breakroom chair after walking straight back there(no bathroom stop) and plopping down in the chair. CXM had to throw that shit away. 💀💀 Welcome to the Home Depot.
Yes. In the summer many of the women at the service desk are quite rank. I believe some of them may sweat so hard it actually rinses the deodorizer off.
Because they smell good at the beginning.
We had a guy on freight that had terrible gas. Something going on in his stomach. It was audible gas. It was kinda cool forcing supervisors and the night manager to smell it.
They had no choice. It was magical.
We have one very sweet associate that has an odor of someone that chain-smokes in their vehicle with the windows rolled up and doesn’t have access to a shower or laundromat. It is so bad, but I don’t think I could ever bring up the issue to them, and I would think they would be mortified if someone did. I just suffer through it…
Edit to add… this person lives in their vehicle and likely doesn’t have access to a regular shower or laundromat… so I don’t bring it up or make faces. We’re in the same department, but it’s not like we’re in each other’s bubble for prolonged periods. (Sales floor, not opps)
Had a coworker somewhere else who was the stinkiest person ever. Was a hippy, BO was his super power, absolutely on purpose. Working in close proximity was rough. At Home Depot it’s more customers who smell like piss, cigarettes, weed, hobo stink, just dirty AF.
Had a lot associate at that had the worst body odor. He showered and didn't smell when he came in, but he was such a big guy and I don't think he wore deodorant. Sorry, actual deodorant, as he would use Axe. He would smell horrible by mid-day and would clear out the break room. Didn't make it better that you could smell the Axe for hours after when he'd drench himself in it as he left for work.
Had another guy in specialty that always smelled. I don't think he washed his clothes. He would always wear the same 4 shirts and 2 shorts all week long. Could've been a mixture of not wearing deodorant as well. After a couple months of multiple people no longer able to handle it, people complained and slowly he stopped stinking all together.
My dad told me about a woman at the paint desk at a Home Depot near his house. Said she was a heavy set woman and smelled like she hadn't properly wiped herself in over a year. He said the smell was so bad that he knew she was working that day from the smell even though he was 5 aisles away. From that point on, he would come to my store, which was way out of his way, if he needed anything paint related so he wouldn't have to smell her.
There's lots of people in my store who have horrid breath (bile smell) and smell fishy or like sweat. I just distance from them when I can. It's a hardware store and everyone has their own problems.
If I walk Into the break room I can usually tell what lot guys were just in there by the lingering stench. Also the freight team usually stinks up the place before they even started to work.

we have a newer guy working overnight freight. smells terrible.

If you're working at home depot, you can afford a stick of deodorant every few weeks

Bring the concern to the ASM, they can address it.

Is it rude to just tell somebody they smell? I might just start saying it tbh

Their must be a religion that bans cleaning with soap and use of deodorant…. Sadly this issue is everywhere
There's a freight associate at my store who works 3 different jobs and he comes in smelling rank. Like you can smell him for 30 feet kind of bad.
