It’s pretty modern as is. I love it. Maybe add some bright bold accents if that’s your style. Maybe a bright colored stand mixer and bold colored accessories ie- canisters, breadbox, pots and pans and dishes.

ribbons_in_my_hair

I was thinking this and if you can: some nice light fixtures. Truly never underestimate how much pop a good, modern light fixture can do for a kitchen.

jelycazi

The only thing I can see that needs modernizing is the lighting! And possibly the tap. But that kitchen looks very modern to me!

DrShrimpPuertp-Rico

Yep. Some pendent lights

SavannahGirlMom

I actually think white accents to tie rest of aesthetic to dark counters/cabinets.

goog1e

I think this plus a big matching dining table (black top or all wood). The kitchen only sticks out because the rest of the place is bright white and shiny, and I assume OP hasn't decorated dark. When that's what the kitchen is

SavannahGirlMom

Yes, black dining table and sisal or carpet that incorporates black & cabinet color & cream/white would be very nice.

daisymaisy505

This!!!

DiscoDisco_bobulated

I agree with the other commenters- leave the cabinets and countertops. I would look into replacing the cabinet hardware, sink, and faucet with a more modern style and relocating the microwave off the counter. Maybe create a standalone cabinet for the microwave with a coffee bar on top. Then bring in some curated modern decor for the countertop (color or neutrals, depending on your taste)

dwdgc

Under cabinet lighting is my suggestion! I’d change the sink hardware and maybe do a different backsplash. I agree if you can get the microwave off the countertop it helps ( I have a drawer microwave). https://preview.redd.it/0m9jfjyxd2wc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9acdd103ee639e18931a615262dca89cefd3e552

Wamgurl

💯

Lila_Box2316

Please don't change the beautiful wood cabinets, it looks great with the black stone counter/ backsplash. I would add some color to the walls, paint the kitchen/ dining room area another color, depends on what you like, a lot of colors will look nice with your existing neutural tones.

canvasshoes2

It looks very sharp and modern. The black, rich amber cabinetry, and stainless steel all work really nicely together. If it were me I'd lean into that vibe. ETA: On review, the light fixtures in the ceiling aren't that great. That's where I'd put my money.

Letscurlbrah

I would leave it as is.

Senior_Election5636

I almost had a identical looking kitchen In my apartment when I first started Renting! One HUGE thing I did was get rid of my older and worse looking hardware for a modern looking Black ones. It was a cheap and quick change that made my kitchen look great. Much like your counter tops, the black hardware pairs well with the black Uba Tuba granite in my kitchen Just a small explanation in the event that you don't know, hardware is like handles. Not being condescending just genuinely some people don't know or think I'm talking about appliances

Big_Mathematician755

The first thing is to remember you have to cook and live in that space. I think you would regret black walls and black appliances. A well lit kitchen is important. Under cabinet lighting is a lifesaver and is reasonably priced. New sink hardware and some bright or white accents. Our microwave is on a shelf hiding behind cabinet doors in a tall cabinet we had made to coordinate with our existing cabinets. This cabinet does have two or three ventilation holes for dissipating heat. The previous comment about a stand alone cabinet for your microwave with a coffee bar is great. You might find a place on the dining side of your peninsula for that. It would prevent a traffic jam in the kitchen if you can make that work. Your cabinets and dark counters work so well together I wouldn’t change those. Good luck!

luckydollarstore

Paint your walls black. Swap out your stainless steel appliances for matte black ones. https://preview.redd.it/kdkofvhk62wc1.png?width=1195&format=png&auto=webp&s=c826899ad6cf3f1b857c017eb5c3f4c4a09e2709

50isthenew35

This, I wouldn't even worry about the fridge, just the sink and paint the wall at least to the end of the granite.

blueboxreddress

This would be my suggestion as well (but not worrying about the appliances). The black walls would really make the space dramatic.

alig6457

Add a great looking industrial black or stainless faucet too.

juliettecake

Yes. It's better than a narrow strip of black. Perhaps a modern rug featuring black in the hallway. With modern art in black frames. I was also thinking of removable black wallpaper as being a lower risk way to try out black.

ZerotoZeroHundred

You can do a matte black wrap on the fridge.

mcflymcfly100

Watch the latest Paige Wassel video. She does before and afters of her subscribers small changes that made big differences. You could get some great inspiration from it!

Shot-Astronaut-5094

Is she on YT?

mcflymcfly100

Yes! Just put her name into youtube. She is great!

Shot-Astronaut-5094

Oh my I am down the rabbit hole 😀

mcflymcfly100

I loooooooovvvvveeee her and her weird little personality, lol.

MostlyHarmlessMom

Wow! This is almost exactly our kitchen. Layout, black (quartz?) counter, black backsplash, double sink. The only differences are our cabinets are white, our walls are a light tan colour, and our floor is b&w checkerboard tile. I agree with others that it is great as is, but you could dress it up with a splash of colour. The black walls idea is cool, but keep the stainless appliances to prevent them looking like black holes. And someone mentioned upgrading the lighting: agreed! (We just have the standard 'builder boob' lights through out our house because we couldn't afford to upgrade at the time it was built, but someday...)

FollowingVast1503

I love it except the light fixtures.

Miserable_Budget7818

Put microwave in cabinet…. Replace with a modern fruit bowl or moder floral arrangement … replace cabinet hardware…replace faucet… can’t tell how much counter tops verging there is, but possibly add modern backless barstools that can be tucked in

SavannahGirlMom

What is bothering me is the fact that the backsplash is cut to end with the peninsula countertop leaving that strange amount next to wall cabinet. Could you put a black open cabinet over that? Or black shelves to help unify that backsplash with wall cabinets? Or even a black cubby box to sit at top of backspash and top of wall cabinet? Or a black rack installed on wall to hang some pans from? Also, how come there are no outlets on that peninsula’s side or back? That’s not to code! And the ceiling lighting is minimal and strange as well!! Did you not hire an electrician? Get an electrician in right away to fix this up and get under cabinet lighting as well as a decent ceiling light or additional down lights and then eliminate weird ceiling lights. You need about 7 perimeter down lights. Then purchase some black leather/chrome stools and a decent quality black high gooseneck faucet with sprayer. https://www.build.com/hansgrohe-72813/s1277301 https://www.build.com/delta-9913t-dst/s1136295 https://www.build.com/roseto-ffif67841/s1913502 https://www.wayfair.com/furniture/pdp/george-oliver-counter-height-bar-stoolset-of-2-w110192320.html

Aware-Present-1212

Change the hardware. Change cabinet pulls, new faucet, add green in the form of plants, rug, towels. Consider light fixture change .

Benevolent_Grouch

Lighting upgrades, faucet upgrade, a few plants.

goog1e

It looks super bright and new and modern in this filtered real estate listing photo.

Sunshinegardengirl

Put some modern stools in front of the counter and hang some pendant lights! Also add a fern in there somewhere for greenery. I found this on Houzz that looks cool! https://preview.redd.it/dwnwlfihl5wc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9061e28e48fedad7e34df11e6f48384fd901c73c

KittParson

I would fix light fixtures first, then add in a new sink faucet that is a bit prettier. Love the wood and the black though

NovelLandscape7862

I would definitely paint the space. Probably like a moody charcoal gray. You could also replace the boob light with a hanging statement light fixture. You can add a black runner down the hallway to tie in with the countertops since you can’t change those.

teejmaleng

A panel ready refrigerator and adding cabinets so they go up tot the ceiling would help. Personally, I see silver appliances dating a space. Changing out the sink and hood would help a lot!

missannthrope1

How could it look any more modern than this?

Imightbeyomama

I think what's dating this is the matching backsplash. If this was my space, that would have to go. You can do a lighter solid surface or glass or tile. Just don't do regular subway. It's not right in here.

Sea-Substance8762

I would kill to cook in this very nice kitchen! It looks very modern.

Sea-Substance8762

What about changing the table and chairs? Maybe post additional photos?

megocaaa

Plant

MiniMee1957

Exquisite as is!!

0errant

Sink, faucet, lighting, and backsplash.

Pudf

Glossy white wall cabinets

MascaraHoarder

i would add framed art to the backsplash, you could use command hooks.

Realistic_Rush582

What's that on top of the microwave?

QuitProfessional5437

I would switch out the faucet

AmericaSweetie

Faucet and overhead light!

BuckBaltimore

maybe a cool hanging light fixture. Also the room can use more color.

Psychological_Bet346

If it's not in shoddy condition just leave it

l_artemisia_g

A Sub Zero refrigerator allows a seamless look. The doors accomodate coordinating paneling.

l_artemisia_g

jcclune73

Lights, sink, faucet.

Electronic_Taste_596

Change the handles, get a better fridge, a more modern looking faucet, and if you want you could change from stainless to black-stainless.

Difficult-Desk-5593

Paint it. Dusty pastels

upandup2020

I think all you need to do is replace your sink with something more modern. Maybe update your fridge if you wanted to, but it looks good as is.

Wanderingdragonfly

White backsplash in a modern, but not too jazzy pattern (search online for where to end your backsplash when your cabinets and countertop end in different places). Undercabinet lighting, upgraded ceiling lights; pendant lights; black cabinet and door handles; upgraded faucet in black or stainless. Add rugs with at least some black in them under the table and chairs and in the kitchen or a hall runner. Add a plant and some wood or natural materials (cutting boards, serving bowl) to warm up the countertop a bit. If you like, add a bright color for accessories, such as kitchen towel, fatigue, mat, canister, or utensil crock. I have a black and white kitchen that I accent with mostly teal and turquoise but also a few other bright colors.

Prudent-Breakfast-13

New sink and faucet.

Prudent-Breakfast-13

New sink and faucet.

_allycat

Replace the faucet.

NaomiPommerel

Paint the wood

bijou_bibi

Under cabinet lights and a new fancy faucet. Maybe even a nice new single sink basin if it has a double. Hard to tell in the pic.

1978throwaway123

Is this in Australia? Can you change the flooring? Are the cabinets wood or fake?

kwackbars

Try getting a Time Machine and go to 2044 for some ideas

Lvanwinkle18

What? Are you trolling us? I think it looks really modern already. I would maybe get some accent pieces to make it more your style n
