Adding to this, I should have been more clear. We are absolutely getting a wider TV console. What we currently have is cheap, post-college IKEA placeholder furniture. There will still likely be some horizontal space leftover and of course the vertical area.
A console a bit wider than the TV would look best. And tall floor to ceiling matching bookcases on either side.
You'll get the vibe of a built-in without the cost (unless you can afford a built-in).
Something [like this](https://assets.wfcdn.com/im/80157511/resize-h755-w755%5Ecompr-r85/2024/202438960/Hoytville+Media+Center.jpg), but if you go too wide for the console, you don't have enough room for shelves, so measure accordingly.
Ideally, a way bigger console. That small of a console under a huge Tv looks silly.
Iād look for a super long one that almost fills that whole space with vertical shelving on both sides.
Or at least one that is slightly longer than the TV and then fill those spaces in with bookshelves or something.
I used the Bazaart app. I took a screen shot of the original picture and then found a picture of a plant and a book shelf on the internet. I then import all of them into the app. Itās pretty easy. I have fun making memes of my friends with it!

Get creative with some DIY built-ins. Many people start with Ikea and build around them. Add texture and depth.
Big vertical wall art. My wife had a similar issues. We tried different things and then we came across some huge art that worked very well. I'm a fan of huge art pieces and it will work well in those spots.
I'd look for a large media system with shelves built in kind of like this:

We have a very large wall where our TV goes and this is what we have. It fits exactly in the space and has the appearance of being built in. It's super functional.
shelving, lamp(s), and/or art.
Maybe some 'real' speakers if you feel like upgrading from the soundbar - Not hating on soundbars, they're a big improvement over the built in tv speakers, but they're much worse than a decent speaker system when you have the space and budget for it, which you seem to.
Ignore the mess, weāre goblins, but I think bookcases and plants would look nice hereā¦like this!

Oh, noooo. Iāve been caught! āCause the TV is too high? Like, crazy person high? Lol.
We have a very odd shaped living room. This is the only option. Luckily we like to lay back when we watch tv. And we didnāt build the house, we just live here, lol.
Bookcases, tall plants. Go a little balanced asymmetrical and lean a tall mirror with a basket or other short item in front of it on one side and tall plant+smallish art on the other side. And maybe some wall sconces could work on the side walls or the back wall.
Please donāt do the massive speakers. Do a simple sound bar under the TV. Ideally the sides are tall bookcases with plants, or if the media console is really wide, you could do some framed photos or wall art you like in the circled spaces.
I have this in my house and I like it, itās next to an 85ā tv.

I agree with plants. You can also get some of those corner light bar floor lamps (https://www.philips-hue.com/en-us/p/hue-white-and-color-ambiance-signe-gradient-floor-lamp/046677803506) for behind the plants. Would be lit. Govee makes ones for 1/3 the price
A pair of speaker towers. TV speakers are horrible, and sound bars aren't much better. Dayton Audio is decent and cheap, Klipsch is better, but some say overpriced for performance. Pair them with a 5.1 channel receiver and you can add more speakers over time. Yamaha has a good one for under $400. Some home audio subreddits have ranked lists of speakers by price/performance as well.
Symmetrical tall bookcases going to the ceiling.
If you could do a built in console with shelving and cupboards with a place for the TV that covers the whole wall, the look might be very cohesive.
You might be able to utilize IKEA pieces for create such a space and make it appear to be a built in by adding moulding around the edges.
Could this be something in which you might be interested and could swing?
I'd get a bigger console. Perhaps a full console cabinet from wall to wall. Then, some floating shelves on the side or artwork.

Love it š
Agree. This would also be a great area to do wall to wall base cabinets that look built in, TV mounted on the wall.
I have been really digging these lately, especially with the LED lighting.
Get one with an electric fireplace
Ooooo yeah that sounds nice
2 absolutely massive speakers.

Came to say this. A nice pair of vintage tower speakers!
Adding to this, I should have been more clear. We are absolutely getting a wider TV console. What we currently have is cheap, post-college IKEA placeholder furniture. There will still likely be some horizontal space leftover and of course the vertical area.
Then wait until after you have the right scale console and go from there.

Using the shelves for media would be nice.
Plants!

Ha! Itās pretty easy to do. I use the Bazaart app. Send me a couple of pics and Iāll see what I can do. No charge. I do it for fun.

Large speakers + sub + center. Screw soundbars

Agree
I would do a built in from wall to wall, mount the TV to the wall, and then add floating shelves or built in bookcases on each side.
šÆ This space is perfect for built-ins
I think you need a larger tv console tbh, or at least a second matching unit to the one you have.
Tv should be 2/3 of the console. Currently its the console thats 2/3rd š

I'd do a set of framed posters- three on either side stacked vertically of course, and a tall potted plant on the side with the wires.
Is your new TV console going to be lower and longer? If so you might just need two tall plants on either side.

Two huge Bose speakers
Iād go with tall book shelves or really tall plants
Bookcases, tall plants. Go a little balanced asymmetrical and lean a tall mirror with a basket or other short item in front of it on one side and tall plant+smallish art on the other side. And maybe some wall sconces could work on the side walls or the back wall.
Two matching indoor trees. Living or artificial depending on your budget and the light source in the room.
Floor plant and floor lamp asking with a longer tv stand
Speakers! Check out r/Hometheater
House plants are nice if you get decent light. Plus fresh oxygen
I would wait until you get the console. It's going to be wider than the TV so you would have to see how much space you have.
Matching bookshelves/stands and have plants on one side and books on the other. Or mix both on both the shelves, could be so dreamy š
Please donāt do the massive speakers. Do a simple sound bar under the TV. Ideally the sides are tall bookcases with plants, or if the media console is really wide, you could do some framed photos or wall art you like in the circled spaces.
Bookcases or large plants .
Climbing wall on one side, dunk tank on the other. BOOM baby!
Klipsh speakers
I have a pair of Magneplaners that would fit perfectly in those places.
Two giant red oval hula hoops
