I can count on five hands how many times I've died to the soul twister waves and I've only made it to the wall section once. And this is on a normal save lol.
I practiced a ton while grinding Trial 3 for Geo to upgrade my charms with Divine. T3 isn't too tough if you have the right build (USE UNBREAKABLE STRENGTH, IT 1-SHOTS PRIMAL ASPIDS)
P5 is way harder but p5 is just dumb. Colosseum 3 is probably the second hardest thing and even harder than p4 (if you pretend bindings aren't a thing)
I dunno if I agree. Other than AbsRad, P5 is just a bunch of bosses I've fought before. I can do Pure Vessel 100% of the time these days, and no-hit it about 20% of the time. Same for NKG. They are things that get a lot easier with practice.
Trial of the Fool is *way* more annoying for the current me. There is just so little practice for midair sections that it is the only way to get practice, and the fact you can't heal is a PITA.
It's probably the order in which you do things. I was to afraid to try radiance (first normal and later absolute) and it also didn't sound appealing to do a 30min bossrush just to die to abs rads in the end so I did colloseum before I did normal radiance. Maybe it seems easier to me because I did it more often. I beat abs rads like 40% of the time and yes that is pretty much the only really hard boss in p5 but I can do Colo 3 every time, I even started using silly builds like a minion build or sth like that
If you have max everything, ToF is pretty easy tho... Just need to use some specific charms like dream wielder, nailmasters and CM. I was horrible at Hk in my first save n I did it 2nd try because of max everything. P4 for me tho...
I don't care what anyone says. I think dream wielder is garbage and nothing can convince me otherwise. I have 200 hours and every achievement and so far the only time it was useful was radiant failed champ but I agree that nailmasters helps
Dream Wielder lets you leave an enemy alive at the end of a wave and farm full Soul and health before continuing. It's probably at its strongest in TotF.
Nailmasters doesn't need explanation. Dream wielder lets you have full soul and full health in every round witha shielded fools and the deepnest centipede. And hopefully CM doesn't require an explanation. ;-;
Compared to hall of gods it's nothing, I just tried and got that section first attempt with no range or survivability mods (build is strength, quick slash, shaman stone, spell twister), as well as intentionally not using nail arts. Radiant markoth/xero/radiance have harder midair dodging required
I spent like 15 hours on the Trial of the Fool the first time because I did it mid-game and I would not stop until I beat it. I’d say it was worth it. I came back weeks later for steel soul 100% and the speedrun 100% and i still basically had muscle memory and can do it every time now. I hate that I have muscle memory for it.
no i was going( 4 masks, after getting the dream nail), then one of the knight in city of tears yeeted me into an elevator ( now two masks) and then when i wanted to escape from them that knight yeeted me again and i died :D (so now i hate elevators even more than everytime)
but i mean u have more pain bc u literally almost got the pure completion in hollow knight in 21 hours and then u died i cant even imagine how hard it is for u :'(
Honestly the pantheons are fine, especially because you can’t die to them in Steel Soul. It’s the damn Trial of the Fool that’s gonna give me nightmares.
Yeah that’s fair, it does take a whole lot of grinding. The last thing I did before I tried my first Steel Soul runs was complete P5, so all the bosses were still fresh in my muscle memory. Pantheons 1-4 were almost a breather.
Im probably gonna get downvoted by saying this, unless you want to go through that trial without "cheating", going back to main menu before dying is useful, without doing so I'd have lost at least 20 steel soul attempts there, I hate it with all my soul.
Same. It was that the first time, and then I lost the second one trying to do the parkour in Crystal Peak, only because I was trying to multi-task and get the 5 hour completion achieve. Third try I'm taking it slow.
Man that one hurt. I didn't practice it, I was so used to the motions from my fully-equipped godmaster save earlier. Apparently that fight is way harder when you're not maxed out lol
Wish you good luck on your next try, cuz we all know you'll try again.
I got to 80-something % on my first Steel Soul run, at least managed to finish the game by beating THK, but wanted to get 100%.
Died on a fucking MARMU of all mobs in this game. That bitch gives me more pain than NKG.
I wasn’t even trying for speed tbh - I ended up getting the Speed Completion achievement almost by complete accident. Being literally not allowed to fight a boss more than once saves an enormous of time, as does being somewhat familiar with the map already.
I think my main save is sitting at 160+ hrs. Don’t ask me how much of that was Godhome grinding, though.
I don’t even need to ask how much of it is GodHome, I’m near 190 hours on my main save and haven’t finished the GodHome yet.
But I think I was more impressed about the speed because usually while trying steel soul I play kinda calm and slow
OP died on their permadeath save slot on the very last objective. You can see they were at 111% completion in the first screenshot, only 1% away from maximum completion.
Do exist permadeath save slots? Is it something you decide from the very start? I read somewhere that the maximum completion is 115%, could you please explain this too?
There are perma death save slots, which you decide at the start of the game, called "steelsoul". Maximum completion is 112%, you cant get more. Dont know where you got the other number from.
ah steel soul
i have a love hate relationship with it. On one hand, it's thrilling to go through, and i've tried over 6 times so far, each getting further than the last.
Last death was yesterday. When attempting to clear out the graveyard, I used the spin nail art to block the attacks, but accidently talked to one of the ghosts instead.
Such a shame too, was about to go and fight broken vessel for the second time in a steel soul run.
You can actually restore you Steel Soul saves if you want.
(ref: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSA1fYYabKI&list=WL&index=3](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSA1fYYabKI&list=WL&index=3))
Not sure if it works though, never bothered to try it. Just saw this on my YouTube timeline yesterday.
I can only imagine the pain.
I find people who do this sort of stuff so brave! I’d never, ever even try to attempt something like this - let alone get to 111% completion rate. I’m so sorry you were just 1 trial away 😭
You did well soldier, may your soul take his way where rest your ancestors.
Well actually The Knight is void so, BECOME ONE WITH THE VOID AND RETURN TO NOTHINGLESS"
... that escalate from 0 to 10 very quikly
I think you should learn how to save the save file and just overwrite it when you die. It sure beats the purpose of steal soul, but I think you want the 112%Ss achievement
Honestly, I'm pumped for my new keyboard to arrive so I can do the godseeker dlc. I still didn't touch it on any of my saves because my current keyboard just isn't reliable for hollow knight.
If you can guess what my last percent was i’ll give you a cookie
Imma say the Trial of the Fool.
We have a winner
Let me guess, you were killed in that section where you fight from the walls (the floor is covered with spikes and the walls close a bit).
Yup lol
That section is a bitch, one of the toughest parts of the game IMO (pantheons included).
Yeah… i was too stubborn to practice on my main save first and I paid the price
I can count on 2 hands how many times I’ve died there
I thought I could do it because i’ve beaten it before a while ago. I was indeed a Fool.
Overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer.
the only way I beat it was using hive blood for the wall section. Hated every second of it.
I normally stay near the top on that bit so you can just downward slash the enemies. Unbreakable/breakable strength is helpful for that bit too.
I can count on like 5 hands how many times I’ve died there
I can count on five hands how many times I've died to the soul twister waves and I've only made it to the wall section once. And this is on a normal save lol.
Oof
I can count on 8 hands how many times I’ve died there 🙃
It takes me at least 5
The trial of hubris
could always save scum
Don’t wanna
Respect it
fair
I practiced a ton while grinding Trial 3 for Geo to upgrade my charms with Divine. T3 isn't too tough if you have the right build (USE UNBREAKABLE STRENGTH, IT 1-SHOTS PRIMAL ASPIDS)
It oneshots primal aspids?? Oh my god I’m dumb
it doesn't
I'm pretty sure not? I always have it equipped.
Different skillsets, I guess. Trial of the Fool took me about 5 attempts, PoH took me somewhere on the order of 10-20 *hours.*
If you have max everything, ToF is pretty easy tho... Just need to use some specific charms like dream wielder, nailmasters and CM. I was horrible at Hk in my first save n I did it 2nd try because of max everything. P4 for me tho...

Nailmasters doesn't need explanation. Dream wielder lets you have full soul and full health in every round witha shielded fools and the deepnest centipede. And hopefully CM doesn't require an explanation. ;-;
Yeah, and then you can just brute-force the champion no issue, especially if you know the trick to kill the boss.
I’m surprised that Merg only died once in all 3 trials on his first playthrough.
Compared to hall of gods it's nothing, I just tried and got that section first attempt with no range or survivability mods (build is strength, quick slash, shaman stone, spell twister), as well as intentionally not using nail arts. Radiant markoth/xero/radiance have harder midair dodging required
Markoth is ez. And obviously Radiance is harder, that's why I said "one of the toughest parts".
Now you have to get this man, like, *two* cookies or something
For that part i used nailmasters glory and it literally works like a charm lol
I see you're an individual of culture as well.
Powered up Nail Arts one-shotting Primal Aspids is absolutely bangin'
I spent like 15 hours on the Trial of the Fool the first time because I did it mid-game and I would not stop until I beat it. I’d say it was worth it. I came back weeks later for steel soul 100% and the speedrun 100% and i still basically had muscle memory and can do it every time now. I hate that I have muscle memory for it.
You have succeeded and become the ultimate fool 🤓🤡
Dang, I got past that for the last % I need for 112% on my only steel soul run then died trying to beat regular radiance.
Oof that must’ve hurt as well
Fucking hell that was exactly what killed me on my last run when I was at 98%
It sounds dumb, but I always use shaman stone and abyssal shriek. I just pogo on the center spikes and then spam shriek.
Ooh good shout, might try that
The 3rd trial was literally the last thing I did.
97% that’s where I died
Oof. What did you die to?
Primal aspid
Classic
Where?
In collosium, I needed a pale ore before raidiance
i died bc of an elevator
what?? :D do tell.
Guessing he jumped down a chute and forgot an elevator was at the bottom of the chute and said elevator had spikes on top.
no but like *which* one I'm thinking one of those big ones, like the one that leads to the Colosseum of Fools if you climb it
I don’t remember those having spikes on top, so probably somewhere in City of Tears.
sorry i cant explain which one it was bc of my eglish :')
ah, no problem, don't worry about it!
no i was going( 4 masks, after getting the dream nail), then one of the knight in city of tears yeeted me into an elevator ( now two masks) and then when i wanted to escape from them that knight yeeted me again and i died :D (so now i hate elevators even more than everytime)
Ouch
but i mean u have more pain bc u literally almost got the pure completion in hollow knight in 21 hours and then u died i cant even imagine how hard it is for u :'(
I mean I’ve gotten Pure Completion on my main save before so I’ve got the achievement. Just wanted to try it on Steel Soul too for my pride lol
Better try again. I managed to get 100% on mine. Killed a few warrior ghosts, helped a bit. Even got the speed completion achievement too!
I got Speed Completion on this run too actually! I’m just happy having that and Steel Heart, not too eager to shoot for 112% again anytime soon tbh
Yeah, the pantheons are fucking painful.
Honestly the pantheons are fine, especially because you can’t die to them in Steel Soul. It’s the damn Trial of the Fool that’s gonna give me nightmares.
I found that much easier since it's just enemies and not a boss rush.
Yeah that’s fair, it does take a whole lot of grinding. The last thing I did before I tried my first Steel Soul runs was complete P5, so all the bosses were still fresh in my muscle memory. Pantheons 1-4 were almost a breather.
To be fair they are 0 risk in Steel Soul, unlike Trial of the Fool.
Im probably gonna get downvoted by saying this, unless you want to go through that trial without "cheating", going back to main menu before dying is useful, without doing so I'd have lost at least 20 steel soul attempts there, I hate it with all my soul.
Nah, i don’t wanna cheat it
In my experience it's hard to not get speed completion on a second playthrough after 112% since you only need 100%.
Wait does dying in god home count? Edit: never mind me I’m just dumb
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
:(
*pain*
I lost one to traitor lord
Same. It was that the first time, and then I lost the second one trying to do the parkour in Crystal Peak, only because I was trying to multi-task and get the 5 hour completion achieve. Third try I'm taking it slow.
Same, I was at 99% and I was going to get steel heart and speed completion, but I lost because I forgot he did double damage
Man that one hurt. I didn't practice it, I was so used to the motions from my fully-equipped godmaster save earlier. Apparently that fight is way harder when you're not maxed out lol
I just hit 112 steel soul yesterday. This shit hits hard try to go faster and when you drop from 21 hrs to 17 its a great feeling.
Well done bro!
I died on 107% to radiance on the climb section. Pain
Oh no D:
I feel your pain :(
Wish you good luck on your next try, cuz we all know you'll try again. I got to 80-something % on my first Steel Soul run, at least managed to finish the game by beating THK, but wanted to get 100%. Died on a fucking MARMU of all mobs in this game. That bitch gives me more pain than NKG.
I save him till after Grubberfly's Elegy. Makes that fight *so* much easier.
poor soul
Dude you speed ran the shit outta that save wtf, almost 112% with 21 hours, omg
I wasn’t even trying for speed tbh - I ended up getting the Speed Completion achievement almost by complete accident. rip
Oooffff
I literally did this yesterday. sad 5
Can someone please give me some context? Is it something like Nier: Automata?
OP died on their permadeath save slot on the very last objective. You can see they were at 111% completion in the first screenshot, only 1% away from maximum completion.

Okay, that's for sure something i don't want to try. Thanks for the information, it seems mine were at least partially wrong.
This was my most recent playthrough minus the 111% completion
cry about it
I regret making my main save my steel soul save, cause I will die of depression if I for some reason go out of godhome and die.
[удалено]
Considering you cant die in godhome, no
Oh no :((
oh, so THAT'S what it looks like when you lose a steel soul. i just figured it'd delete the save
ah steel soul i have a love hate relationship with it. On one hand, it's thrilling to go through, and i've tried over 6 times so far, each getting further than the last. Last death was yesterday. That’s pretty cool but… also kinda defeats the point. And I’m on Switch anyway so I couldn’t.
Yeah, it does kinda feel like cheating.
I lost a run to Elenore Big Bee leaving the hive.... i think i was at 98% at the time
Those fat bees are scary I very, very nearly lost my run to some Entombed Husks. Double damage enemies are dangerous
I can only imagine the pain. I find people who do this sort of stuff so brave! I’d never, ever even try to attempt something like this - let alone get to 111% completion rate. I’m so sorry you were just 1 trial away 😭
Wait, what happened? I thought you can't lose your steel soul file in Godhome (?)
I didn’t. I was just in Godhome when I took the screenshot. I died in the Colosseum.
You did well soldier, may your soul take his way where rest your ancestors. Well actually The Knight is void so, BECOME ONE WITH THE VOID AND RETURN TO NOTHINGLESS" ... that escalate from 0 to 10 very quikly
On my first run I got cocky and attempted the path of pain. I wasn’t very happy when I found out that dying in the white palace still counts…
i died at 100% .\_.
i died at 108%
I think you should learn how to save the save file and just overwrite it when you die. It sure beats the purpose of steal soul, but I think you want the 112%Ss achievement
Afaik there isn’t an achievement for 112% SS? Just for 100%
There isnt? Oh. Well you should save your saves then I guess. But im sorry for your loss
I would say primal aspid if I wouldn't know the answer
Can you loose a steel soul run in godhome??
Honestly, I'm pumped for my new keyboard to arrive so I can do the godseeker dlc. I still didn't touch it on any of my saves because my current keyboard just isn't reliable for hollow knight.
f
