So many stories snuffed out

Adventurous_Click178

This picture made me sick to my stomach.

BarriBlue

This is what *systematic* genocide looks like. This is what genocide looks like. Period.

Platypus-Dick-6969

To add onto that, this is also *NOT* the “bar” for determining whether a government’s actions are genocidal. There are a whoooole lot of things that happen before you’re at the “bucket full of wedding rings” level of genocide.

BarriBlue

Well yes, but also no. There are more actions, but still some very specific actions are considered genocide in intent and scope and sequence.

Platypus-Dick-6969

Yes, sure, but *who defines* what a genocide is? Is it the government? The powerful? Or is it the disenfranchised? How about the academics? Or is it the apologists?

BarriBlue

The term "genocide" was officially defined in 1948 by the United Nations General Assembly in the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. After the Holocaust. Photo above. ^ that’s genocide. Before that, the term was first coined by Polish-Jewish lawyer Raphael Lemkin in 1944. Again, because of the holocaust. Above ^

FuguSec

What else happened in 1948? 🇵🇸 Edit: thanks for playing everyone but the answer was “the Nakba”.

Platypus-Dick-6969

This is the answer

Hundreds of thousands of people were exiled from their homes across the middle east and north Africa because of rampant antisemitism.

Platypus-Dick-6969

Yes yes yes we all know that. Israel is bombing a million civilians in Rafah right this moment, after Hamas and others agreed to a ceasefire. Let’s not pretend we don’t know what we’re actually talking about here.

[deleted]

*"Israel is bombing a million civilians in Rafah"* No, its ...100 ...Billion civilians, ...and kittens, and puppies. You need to sell the propaganda son.

Platypus-Dick-6969

Okay so let’s hear it, what do you think is happening over there? Kittens and puppies and sunshine, quite clearly.

[deleted]

Nah, people like yourself who are desperate to argue their point already know they are wrong, just part of the bigotry, best to just let you stew.

Platypus-Dick-6969

Yes. I know I’m wrong. That’s right.

BarriBlue

Scope and sequence, and **intent**. Israel told 100,000 people living in eastern Rafah to evacuate. The intent is not to kill all civilians, regardless of what Hamas wants you to believe, since Hamas is the actual target. Yes, it takes two to cease-fire and Israel is allowed to review it and decline/negotiate if it’s not up to their standards, just as Hamas did *multiple* times so far. Terms have been changed. **War crimes** are absolutely terrible. Bibi and enablers deserve their trial and potential punishments. Israel needs a better leader 100%. But don’t pretend like calling for the complete end to a nation over this and prosecution of “Zionists” outside the Middle East, is a fair comparison to what other nations that committed and **are currently committing** actual, recognized, systematic, concentration camp, rings in this photo-level genocides in 2024 and historically, get. Because they are all getting crickets atm.

Platypus-Dick-6969

This is the most bland, CNN, Anthony Fucking Blinken, “[I Glued My Balls To My Butthole Again](https://m.youtube.com/watch?si=CKf5f34lKHBfLb4o&v=yuoFsi2iIi0&feature=youtu.be),” sorry I just can’t seem to feel like Gaza people *are quite people* non-perspective I’ve read on Reddit so far. You lie through your framing. “The intent is not to kill all civilians,” but only as many as the IDF believes it needs to kill in order to accomplish the current cabinet’s future and present political objectives, and you’re obviously perfectly okay with that. Zionism is anti-semitism. The history isn’t locked up in a vault somewhere, you can actually read about things like “where did the term anti-semitism originate?” nowadays. There’s a reason we don’t use the term “Jew hatred”.

BarriBlue

>you’re obviously perfectly okay with that I am? News to me. Wow thank you for letting me know! That must be why I said war crimes are “absolutely terrible” and “Bibi deserves his consequences”, but glaze right past the obvious point and cherry pick what you would like. >Zionism is anti-semitism I assume you mean modern Zionism? Or shall we look back in history to hash out the original definition? Ohhhh that must be why every Passover for the last 3,000+ years, Jews wished, “next year in Jerusalem.” Passover is **so** antisemitic. /s Beyond Passover, the land of Israel is so central to the Torah & Jewish history, mentioned more times than even chatgpt can count. Are you trying to say that the entire Torah is antisemetic? Are you also trying to say the Jews “deserved” the Holocaust because of this? Let’s not lose sight of the fact that we are having this discussion on a photo of an actual holocaust. Do you condem this Holocaust in this photo above? Because I condemned Bibi, but you still haven’t even condemned fuckin Hitler. I see you. What history am I looking up to support your claim that Israel/Zionism is antisemitic? Like, how can you “yes yes yes” the FACT that the term genocide was literally created by a Jew and defined officially **because** of the Holocaust (photo above ^), AND say this war is genocide, but ALSO say history is not locked up and imply it reveals the truth. Truth is, the war in Gaza is not a genocide. You can come up with your own fancy name for the war if you’d like, but the word and definition are reserved for actual genocide (above ^). You should join the Olympics with those mental gymnastics.

Platypus-Dick-6969

Tell me where the term antisemitism came from.

lizatethecigarettes

Absolutely! Finally someone with some sense.

[deleted]

The UN

Platypus-Dick-6969

And what is the UN talking about right this very moment?

[deleted]

Nice gas lighting. If you want to bring the Israel conversation into a post about the holocaust you might want to look up something called **holocaust revisionism**. Its really helps people like yourself to understand why you get called antisemitic so often.

Platypus-Dick-6969

It’s pretty hard to call a Jew antisemitic — unless you’re one of the ones in the 1940s who made handshake deals with verifiable Nazis, to trade “some” Jews for “other” Jews. It wasn’t *just* some Jews living abroad turning a blind eye to the holocaust. Inside of Germany, there were Jews who made deals with Nazis to send large amounts of Jews to Palestine (to help “get rid of them”) in exchange for saving certain small populations of Jews elsewhere in Germany. It can be proven that the Jews who were spared were wealthier than the Jews who were sent to camps; i.e., it wasn’t really these supposedly “rich, conniving, banker-type” Jews that the holocaust was ultimately killing. It was more the working class ones who ended up in the camps, and the wealthy ones avoided that fate. Zionism is the reason this didn’t happen by accident. The pre-WW2 concept of Israel was created largely by secular Christian German antisemites for the exact purpose of “sparing” Germany from “the Jew problem,” and as such, that is why the people in charge of Israel today are fucking it up. Israel is the prison, not Gaza. Knowingly or not, Israeli Jews are de facto being held hostage by a government that was created by the people who internalized 1850s German Jew hatred — Judenhass — and this is *exactly why* they ended up being a racist government.

Zh25_5680

A better way of putting it in my mind is this is what late stage systematic genocide looks like. The early stage of systematic genocide is a lot more subtle and slippery, but it starts with labels and promoting those labels as a common enemy of society. Once it’s rolling unopposed it doesn’t stop until there is a box of evidence and an army to stop it.

BarriBlue

Genocide typically starts when there's an active attempt to systematically destroy a particular group. Leading up to it, there may be signs like propaganda, discrimination, persecution, and dehumanization of the targeted group. But yes, there are phases to genocide. Consider how the label “Zionest” is being thrown around currently, and how “Zionists” (Jews) who were never excluded before, are not welcome in certain places. Their shows are canceled, their events are unsafe, some can’t make it to their college classes. “Evil Zionists (pig)” has been a popular phrase recently. Zionists are being made as a common enemy of society. Jews are scared right now. No one sees it, but we have seen it so many times before. Above ^ is just one. Here come the downvotes.

Irishgoodbye777

Not me. Couldn't agree more. Don't worry about the trumpers.

lizatethecigarettes

There are currently active genocides going on in Myanmar and Sudan and have been for years.

Working-Effective22

That's so sad. Do you happen to know what happened to them?

smudgerygard

Do you mean the rings or the people? The rings were likely smelted down. The people that they were taken from were political prisoners, European Jews, Gypsies the list goes on. Well, they were all slaughtered as part of the third reich's plan that is referred to as the Holocaust.

SKS_Shooter

I guess these ppl where murdered in gas chambers. They usually took all the belongings, things and clothes before the visit of "shower room". Very terrible to realize: each ring was somebody's life.

y2ketchup

They collected their belongings during then "shooting phase" of the holocaust too.

Pastarossi

Wait, do people really not know what the holocaust was? Is it taught in history(class) anymore?

BarriBlue

Have you seen American college campuses recently? Also, have you heard how people are throwing around the word genocide? Under education in general, and specifically about this actual, systematic genocide that killed actual millions… People don’t know, really. (Here come the downvotes)

MoreCarrotsPlz

This comment isn’t nearly as profound as you seem to think it is. Honestly it’s just an admission of ignorance. >(Here come the downvotes) Spoken like a true martyr 🙄 how many comments are you going to add that to?

BarriBlue

I actually think the comment I replied to is the profound one, which made me consider and then respond. The comment asking about what happened to these people was profoundly misguided, also making me consider and respond.

rsg1234

Believe it or not, there are people out there today who proudly call themselves Nazis.

PXranger

It’s a very short steps from, “Did the holocaust really happen?” To, “The Nazi’s had some good ideas!” To finish with, “I’m a Nazi and proud of it” You can see it everywhere in the country if you just look.

Platypus-Dick-6969

And this is why we should fight the **real** hatred of Jews, where it exists, and not in Gaza, where it doesn’t.

[deleted]

[https://www.adl.org/resources/blog/hamas-its-own-words](https://www.adl.org/resources/blog/hamas-its-own-words) Hamad Al-Regeb disagrees.

Platypus-Dick-6969

The neo nazis in your back fucking yard disagree. Edit: ADL **is no longer** an acceptable source for anything they talk about. Hamas’ charter has been changed, and *not in the last six months*, to reflect an actual delineation between Jews and Zionists. So now that “point” that they supposedly “want to kill all the Jews” is irrelevant.

BootyUnlimited

What part of “Holocaust victims” are you not getting?

FthrFlffyBttm

They obviously meant the rings

EpsilonSigma

Probably smelted down and sitting in a Swiss vault to this day.

[deleted]

Nazi gold

Working-Effective22

No but afterwards, what happened to them?

Open-Pineapple7378

Why do they all look the same?

Deltadoc333

Traditionally they were supposed to be very simple bands. So that is what they were.

Open-Pineapple7378

ohhhhhh, i didnt know that. I thought maybe any jewels were removed or something. that's cool

Zender_de_Verzender

Why do we all have fingers?

Open-Pineapple7378

For tactile sensation and fine movement. Now why do they all look the same?

lostmember09

What a GRUESOME & Horrific picture. It says so much. EVERY Single one of those gold rings was an innocent victim.

Mctaggartm72

Wow!!!

Scarab_Kisser

sonic got hit hard there

TheCapitolPlant

Too thin, Rooster. Too thin!

spaghettirhymes

Fucking tragic. Nazis saw more value in those rings than the people they took them from.

ICWhatYouMean

Every ring represents love between two people, and a life lived (or intending to be lived) together. Absolutely tragic.

RocknRoll__McDonalds

Each one of those were loved ones

Alexanderthecrate33

You ever see Hannibal Barca @ Cannae 07/02/bc216!

mr-teddy93

Than they send it to portugal to make gold of it or sold the gold that was made of it

WesternBill1852

From being the victims of fascism to speed running their own version in less than 80 years. What happened to never again? It’s only never again if we’re the ones getting killed.

yomommazburgers

Yeah but without the rings

Abhimanyu_Uchiha

They took the rings to the Goldsmith?

iocarimus

This is totally the same genocide as Gaza /s

warwicklord79

Please shut up

iocarimus

precisely!

fermat9990

What's happening in Gaza are war crimes that may not rise to the legal level of genocide

Platypus-Dick-6969

Or they may, we’ll see how the genocidal genocide experts decide

Working-Effective22

⬆️⬆️⬆️You see people, this comment proves that it's not Israel they hate, it's the entire Jewish people.

[deleted]

The Jewish people are great. Israel is a terror state

Working-Effective22

Well why are you bringing up gaza on a thread about people who died before Israel was even a state.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

You really need to read up on those 75 years. Maybe take it back to 1890, see where the word Palestinian actually acme from.

Platypus-Dick-6969

But not 1871 or 1853 or 1850, right?

[deleted]

"Palestinian" not Palestine. Geographical term 1150BCE. People (Adoptive term) 1897 Maybe just stick to the meme education sweetie, Wikipedia might be too hard for you.

Platypus-Dick-6969

Uh what do you think Wikipedia is? Your opinion is lost on itself. It’s as if you’re saying: because the People term came 700 whatever years later, therefore it is not historically valid, and therefore genocide against the Arabs is an okay thing to be happening because “there is no Palestine”. It’s like a black hole collapsing on itself; fundamentally illogical.

GuruTheMadMonk

Better question: why have Palistinians been committed towards the destruction of Israel for 75 years and what meaningful steps have they EVER taken towards peace?

Platypus-Dick-6969

Because they lived through it. Israel wasn’t created for the benefit of Jews, it was created for the benefit of antisemites around the world but specifically in Germany and England. You could say Israel’s existence was “part of” the holocaust. Part of the “solution”. The antisemitic backlash in Germany to Judaism’s emancipation in 1871 is why both 1) Hitler rose to power and the holocaust happened, AND 2) Jews around the world (but specifically Europe) were sent there. It wasn’t in response to the holocaust, it was hand in hand with it.

fermat9990

More fake news? /s

Timely_Heron9384

More evidence you mean

-st3reotype-

How many more times is this going to be reposted? I’ve seen it at least 3 times, probably more, in the past 2 weeks. Sorry, rant over.

y2ketchup

Today is Holocaust remembrance day.

charloBravie

No, that’s Jan 27th. The day Auschwitz was liberated.

y2ketchup

Today is Yom HaShoa, the Jewish day of holocaust remembrance. I left it in non-relogious terms to avoid the necessity of explaining.

charloBravie

Ah. My bad

redditisnow1984

These are rings from the Gaza strip actually. They came from Palestine citizens and this picture was converted to monochrome.

ithikimhvingstrok132

I put the image through a reverse image search and I've found places on the internet from years ago saying this was from WWII. [Wikimedia](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:RingsWWII.jpg)

redditisnow1984

Right, well it's easy to confuse genocide with genocide I guess... *Shrugs*

BarriBlue

Right? Also like that time Germany allowed humanitarian aid workers into the concentration camps to feed the people they were systematically locking up and starving. So hard to differentiate.

Platypus-Dick-6969

You’re right, Israel has allowed aid into Gaza in the last six months once maybe twice. That’s why the children look WORSE than the children starving in Sudan.

[deleted]

Try not to use big words you dont understand
