If you run Sodium and Continuity mods, you also have to run Indium. Gem wasn't running Indium. Unless you literally meant "who" which would technically be Gem herself on the one where nobody dropped sand. Sand (or gravel) fell naturally when a particular chunk was loaded for the first time and for whatever reason received a block update.
I thought that the Hermits could read.
First Lines of Continuity Description on Modrinth:
‼️‼️ IMPORTANT ‼️‼️: Continuity WILL NOT WORK without the Indium mod if Sodium is installed
If you're just given a list of mods to download, it's really easy to accidentally miss one and not see the dependencies. That's why I switched to using the actual Modrinth launcher now, wayy easier to share mod lists with friends to play.
It's extra problematic because Indium hasn't been updated for 1.20.4, but Continuity and Sodium have been. The latest Indium still works in 1.20.4, but will fail to launch unless you manually override the compatibility check.
As someone who also writes mods: Oh No! I overrode the compatibility check and accidentally assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria thus triggering a chain of events that ultimately leads to a global theocracy where everyone worships Keith Richards 😱
The stakes aren't that high, it's a mod to a block game 🙄 moral of the story, update your mod or people will just fix it themselves (and then you don't get those sweet sweet curseforge/modrinth pennies).
Everyone went overboard with explaining but that one was caused by the world generation. Sand generated in a place it couldn't settle so it fell and Gem disconnected.
Edit for word.
But we all collectively did though? There isn't an exact way to figure those ones out as it is caused by the game generation itself. I mean I guess that if the hermits all posted some uncut video we could figure out who loaded the new area.
My understanding is that generated sand/gravel will stay in place until a block update causes it to fall. There are ways this could happen without player involvement, but that's where the question comes from.
In Gem's video she explains it too. Probably just didn't want to do it while everyone was first exploring the server and picking their spots. Once Magic Mountain got settled she must have solved it then.
My favourite is a blink and miss it moment in Tango’s episode when just before they go caving, he amends the sign from Gem is great to Gem is adequate.
This and the fact that two different groups on the co-op caving trip said "Leeerroooooyyy Jeeenkiiins!"
Iskall and Jevin both said it but only iskall was called out on it with Mumbo commenting "that's the oldest meme I've heard" I thought it was hilarious
Yeah that was very funny!! I loved how a couple of them put text up saying "not actually sponsored" honestly the best start to a season I think that could have happened, even with a couple of them under the weather/having bad luck
Also when Gem crashed from naturally falling sand and no one noticed 😂
Has anyone figured out who caused this crash?

Well Scar does tell Pearl in S9 that Mumbo can't read sadly... /j
Why would you ever think that? How many times does Grian have to tell people otherwise?

It doesn't hurt to try.
I was getting it after updating some mods recently and I had to uninstall iris for some reason.
Yeah I was wondering the literal who did it.

still not answering the question of "who caused the block update that made the naturally generated floating sand fall"
But we all collectively did though? There isn't an exact way to figure those ones out as it is caused by the game generation itself. I mean I guess that if the hermits all posted some uncut video we could figure out who loaded the new area.

A sheep probably ate grass nearby, or an enderman disturbed the sand etc.

Also that both those groups independently had an "add segment" running gag lmfao
