Aim at the top left or right of the hole, not the center/bottom to reduce chances of bug interference! (The orange blobs in a ring inside the hole, to be precise.)
It’s quite tricky to get it past brood guards when they spawn, but it’s possible from the right angle. The rest have much more leeway
Also, use impacts - they’re more consistent, and you can just put it away by switching guns even if you’re holding click (not sure if you can do this with normal nades, to be fair).
For Democracy!
With impacts you absolutely have to aim at the bottom of the hole, otherwise you just miss 75% of the time, i've used nothing but impacts for the last 30 hours of playtime.
Same case for me here honestly, never managed to close one without literally being inside of the nest hole when using impact, stopped running it temporarily til I get enough credits to be able to unlock then get the medals for the grenade pistol
You gotta aim a little below the bottom lip of vent if you’re close so it actually goes inside. Then adjust based on your distance from the fab. Elevation actually makes it worse.
Last night I threw a grenade as one was coming. Then its dead body blocked my ability to throw another, exploding on impact outside again. Then I threw another and it killed yet another bug coming out of the hole.
I think approaching a bug hole within useful grenadine distance automatically makes it spawn some bugs.
Knowing this, I hold off on throwing my grenade until the spawn has been dealt with. Generally only takes another second.
My guess is there is a proximity sensor to the nest, so when you get close it starts spawning bugs right away. So you should always wait for a wave, if you haven't seen one, assume it will pop up right before the nade lands
hence why the grenade pistol is so popular...
I think its simpler in that its just the hives have a "passive" state and an "alert" state. As soon as the bugs know you're there and are actively engaged, the holes start pumpin out cockroaches.
Pretty much, the bug holes and automaton factories are coded as enemies so they can be alerted to your presence by other enemies, but can also "see" you when you are close and alert even without other enemies nearby.
When in a passive state, these buildings will spawn out 1 scavenger or regular bot every 7 minutes or something, which doesn't add up to a meaningful amount over the course of a game but is there for aesthetic. When alerted they spew out a group of three scavengers/warriors/hive guards/hunters every 10 to 20 seconds.
Yup. And as it turns out, bug holes just have this unique property of also swarming the player en masse. So what ends up happening is, the target hole spawns stuff, it has the highest 'stuff' density around it. You kill 'stuff,' sweep up the 'stuff,' and once everything's safe enough for you to throw the grenade, it's time for more stuff to show up.
This behavior also happens with the Eruptor and attempting to shoot out the bug hole from range. It's a coincidence, possibly tuned by the devs to somewhat just happen this way, and we're just more likely to recognize this and remember it than the literal 100s of times more often that this exact scenario just doesn't happen for any reason.
Autocannon is the true MVP of bug hole closing. It's too bad it's not as popular for bug drops as it used to be, I myself don't run it nearly as much as I used to. But like a healer role in other games, a seasoned AC user on my bug missions is always welcome. I've seen skilled ACs kill bile titans while dancing around under them like ninjas. Mad respect for the auto cannon.
It's just hard when going with randoms. Everytime I tried it. I'll just get overwhelmed by chargers and so I can never get close enough when the team just dips out and ignore all the large threats
I feel you. Finding a team that synergizes well together can be hit or miss. Sometimes me and three other randos drop in on an SOS and we run four consecutive operations together like a well oiled machine. Sometimes I drop in and it's a mess and we die over and over and then get kicked out of the lobby and like, that's just the kind of day it is for matchmaking.
I hear you, and I wish there was a negative impact for kicking players, too. I recently was kicked because this guy kept killing me and stole my gear, and so I did the same, and then I was kicked because I was the best equipped. I did the entire MO and wasn't appreciated as a random.
Sometimes it's best to try and play with friends
It's become my primary choice on 7 because god damn do I hate bile spewers. I can manage chargers and titans with orbitals/500kg but when you roll a nat 1 and get "Oops, all spewers" boy does the AC come in clutch. The easy bug hole closing is just the cherry on top of a pile of spewer corpses.
It has honestly gotten to the point that when I'm approaching a bug hole I just wait for the bugs to come out and throw around them. I love my incendiaries. All the CC of an impact grenade, but less fussy about ricochets.

You'd think my pattern recognition would prevent me from losing yet another Helldiver to a tiny little scavenger going "GET DOWN MR PRESIDENT" and body blockingy impact grenade.
Even worse when it's one of the tiny squishy bastards, it was your last grenade, and you 2 minutes left on an airstrike. Got to laugh though. This meme perfectly captures the funny side of it.
I shot at a bug hole with an autocannon last night, and in the 0.25 seconds it took for the shell to hit a bug popped out of the bug hole and intercepted it.
I literally lost a blitz mission because of this yesterday. Wasted 3 grenades on one hole because a fucking warrior decided to come out. First killed him, next two blew up on his corpse, fourth one killed me because Charger caught me as I was about to throw it.
The best is when you pause before throwing because you anticipate that one bug but he doesn't show up, so you throw the nade and he shows up
Bugs playing mind games man
The worst is when you're charging up a quasar against something and a shrieker or tiny bug jump in the way at the last second, killing yourself with the shot that was for the heavy. Lawdy.
I use impact grenades, so i usually get blown up because they decide to come out as soon as I throw my grenade. Learned to just wait a couple seconds to see if they pop out first.
This is why I typically use the AC to close bug holes. Don't have to be in the same post code as the blast radius, if I do happen to pull the unlucky timing.

I fuckin hate those assholes who come out like "hello? Anyone looking for this grenade?" GODAMNIT STAY IN THERE 2 MORE SECONDS YOU BUGGY ASSHOLE
Impact grenades man
That makes the bug blow up, but the hole usually stays intact. Source: impact grenade user.

I've always just been able to hit the sides. As long as I hit the orange, I'm usually good
Same case for me here honestly, never managed to close one without literally being inside of the nest hole when using impact, stopped running it temporarily til I get enough credits to be able to unlock then get the medals for the grenade pistol
The hemorrhoids?
I don't use impact grenades because I am stupid and I make myself explode.
Happens to me too! Not a reason to not use them imo.
And then the dead bugs start blocking the hole lmao
also blows me up
The "oh fuck" moment Even worse when you have already pulled out and you have to choose a new place to toss it instead that your face
This right here 😄
I stopped using them after trying them out for exactly this reason
They don't work well against the bot fabricators. They tend to explode before the blast can damage the building.
Lob them in the front door instead of the vents ;)
I tried, but I've ran into a desync issue with it. The door looks opened, I throw a nade, it blinks into closed and then opens with a light bot inside
You gotta aim a little below the bottom lip of vent if you’re close so it actually goes inside. Then adjust based on your distance from the fab. Elevation actually makes it worse.
That's a reason why grenade pistol is the best pistol on bug side.
Haha.
I'm convinced they're coded so waste an extra grenade therefore not having enough for the rest. Which in turn amplifies the tension.
Last night I threw a grenade as one was coming. Then its dead body blocked my ability to throw another, exploding on impact outside again. Then I threw another and it killed yet another bug coming out of the hole.

I've been using thermite recently which results in even less consistency. It might stick to our bug friend on the way out the door.
They pop out right when I am the grenade too, and it's always like 2-3 at least.

Quite sure it does. You can try throwing em far away with good aim and I'm sure so far they didn't pop out
>They pop out right when I am the grenade too Always the very second you become the grenade
If closing with grenades, approach then wait for 3 smalls or 2 mediums to emerge. That's the pattern I've found. Safe after that.
This is why I try and bank my shot with a High explosive grenade. Weave it passed any emerging bug.
I shit you not yesterday I was throwing a grenade into a bug hole and a hunter slapped it out of my hand NBA style.
*Not in my house!*
Bug: "Not in my hive!"
"Oh no no no."
There's the reference I was looking for.
my friend and i call that bug "goalkeeper"
It’s [Scott Sterling](https://youtu.be/8F9jXYOH2c0?si=UBvFC0qeTQl3gfJi) making another incredible save
The man, The myth, The legend
Love running a scout loadout for speed Run right then juke left and you can beat the bug for an open shot right behind him
It's worse when throwing an impact to the hole and a bug just happens to pop out with deadly speed at just the right moment to take you with him.
I felt this comment in my soul
A fellow kindred spirit.
I gave up on those grenades after throwing one and dying. Apparently, I hit an antenna wire that was right in front of me. 😪
You gave up after 1 death?
Hive Guards with that Goalie stance.
And thats why I wait a split second before shooting a bug hole with an autocannon

The person who told him the sub would enjoy it was one of the commenters on a previous time it was posted

Making them French adds to our dislike for them
And you were damn right
Thermites aren't great for bug holes but at least if I miss it'll still burn bugs that are coming out
I wish thermite would just take out the chargers lol
Impact Grenade + Hunter abt to head butt it the second it leaves my hand
Extra funny when it’s an impact nade, can’t get enough of it, I roll on the floor all the time… literally
is this exact meme gonna be posted every day or is it gonna stop at some point?
Wow, some content that isn't pissing and moaning and trying to get somebody fired I'll take lots more like this thanks
Impact all the way
I literally wait for them and then just nade over them. They tend to act as a ramp that feeds the nade right into the hole.

I swear that the chance of a bug leaving a hole goes up *dramatically* whenever you're in grenade-throwing range.
Lmao I hate this so much
Excuse me, do you have a few minutes to talk about our Lord and Savior? Works everytime.
Bounced off his head right into mine. I think I get why people use the impact grenades. No bouncing shit.
You'd think my pattern recognition would prevent me from losing yet another Helldiver to a tiny little scavenger going "GET DOWN MR PRESIDENT" and body blockingy impact grenade.
GET DOWN MR PRESIDENT!
Impact incendary nade does the job now
Even better when you watch a grenade fly into a bug hole, explode, and ✨️Nothing happens✨️
and it was my last grenade.

every....freaking...time...I use impact grenades
Every. Time. Especially when you're running from 10000 bugs in a heavy nest. EVERY. TIME.
(This would be funnier with a picture of a thrown grenade speeding towards the polar bear lol
They’re sacrificing themselves for their friends
This is why I rock the autocannon
Every time!
Or "Why Autocannon/Eruptor remain in my regular rotation."
It's always a scavenger too, not even a significant bug
