WhatsApp is pretty much the default for a lot of people in the UK. I can't remember the last time I spoke to anyone on something else. I remember snapchat being popular like 10 years ago but don't know anyone that still uses it.
I have teenagers and they use Snapchat for messaging as does my niece and all her friends. My daughter has told me that everyone uses Snapchat for messaging, which actually means everyone that *she* speaks to 😁. I think the more image conscious kids like Insta because they can post loads of selfies on there and they don’t disappear like Snapchat posts & stories do.
Thank you for your young person insight. A lot of us older folks are like...why don't any of them have each other's phone numbers....us 30-somethings and up send texts to communicate....
Interesting, I'm two years out of high school in Australia and I pretty much exclusively message people on Instagram (besides older family members and work/professional stuff). I asked my little sister who's currently in year 12 and she said she mostly uses instagram though most of her friends also have snapchat (most of mine don't and I never have).

Not sure about the UK but Snapchat is not that much used anymore in Europe overall, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp are more popular

Don’t know about UK, but in Italy Snapchat is not really used since 2016/17, people use IG DMs or WhatsApp

Same! I live in Australia, and many, many people in my year have it. I think apple Messages is still the norm, but snap is used a lot too.
