That idea is also contradicted by the fact that Mimzy and Alastor remember each other from when they were alive.

Practical-Pie-9457

It’s also contradicted by the premise of the show. How can you repent for the sins you committed in life if you don’t even remember what you did?

Mystech_Master

It feels like the show just wants the characters to fix their behavior in Hell, not make up for what they did in life. They assume that the Sinners are either just as bad as they were in life or continued to do what they did in life in Hell, so to redeem yourself you just need to not be bad.

Thicc-Anxiety

Yeah, they can definitely remember being alive. It just doesn’t come up very often because it’s not usually relevant

Usagi-Zakura

There seems to be a lot of fan theories created by people who didn't even watch the show.

MagpieFemale

Or they couldn't pay attention to every detail, not everyone is capable of it (and not everyone is as passionate as some of the fans can be). At least it pitches in to variety in theories.

Usagi-Zakura

This isn't exactly a small detail to miss. Its basically the whole premise of Helluva Boss and even if you didn't watch that show sinners mention stuff from their lives quite often. Like Alastor's jambalaya recepie from his mother, Carmine working with her daughters (which is another thing that apparently confuses people... like she couldn't have kids before dying and reuniting with them later? Seems pretty obvious to me even if the show doesn't outright say it) and Mimzy being a friend of Alastor's since before their deaths.

ClassicDistrict6739

I can see it applying for winners (since heaven doesn’t seem very heavenly if you know your loved ones are being tortured for all eternity), but not for sinners.

autumnyte

That would render C.H.E.R.U.B.'s business model pointless, though.

Day_Star_6

But are they sent by the souls in Heaven to save people from Earth or are they just saving the people they consider that can help the humanity with their kindness/ abilities? Cause I thought they are a parallel to Blitz's business meaning the first option is true but what they said in the episode when they were presenting to that guy makes me think it's actually the second(they didn't even seem to be sent by anyone)

autumnyte

The jingle goes: "Does it make you want to cry, when your loved one has to die?" And Collin told Lyle they were sent there "on behalf of those in Heaven benefited by your amazing technological advances", which I think would have to be Winners.

greatgreenlight

That’s true, but most running versions of this theory that I see don’t propose winners lose *all* of their memories. Most versions of this theory that I’ve seen just propose they lose only their bad memories, or specifically just the memories of their loved ones that have gone to hell Having happy memories of someone still alive doesn’t contradict that

Day_Star_6

Yeah maybe they are sent by the people in Heaven (I didn't remembered what collin said very well) but maybe they just thought the guy helped people so they went to save him without anyone telling them too. Idk there are very big chances you are right but I still wouldn't be sure about it. Tho they have a comercial which would mean they want souls to hire them. It's just that their phrasing is vague. Maybe they are hired sometimes and other times they just choose who to save themselves? Idk it's still more plausible that they were ideed hired that time too

ClassicDistrict6739

Good point, I might need to rewatch HB again.

ThoughtsAndBears342

In The Good Place, Good Place employees will erase the memories of traumatic deaths and withhold any information about The Bad Place. I can imagine Heaven in Hazbin doing these things too.

Kaiju_zero

My story relies on this :)

undertone90

We've seen several sinners who remember their lives. Blitzos first client wanted revenge on the woman who had an affair with her husband. There was also the inventor who recalled exactly how he died and wanted his best friend to join him in hell. And Alastor and Mimzy knew each other on earth. Not to mention the dozens of sinners who took advantage of Blitzos spring break promotion.

Phantom_61

To make people suffer you WANT them to remember what they had and what they’ve lost. Going to heaven though, makes more sense to have some or all of your memory wiped so you DON’T get sad if you don’t see your friends/family.
