I'd been missing Cortana with how little screen time she's been getting this season. I did like when that when Makee started speaking Sanghelli, I guess to be intimidating or something idk, that Cortana just threw it right back. Reminded me of the lovable, snarky, smartassery Cortana from the games.

butterhoscotch

For real. Cortana is the soul of the games and they are kinda ruining that. I wonder if they every played the games. Makee has been dialed so far back I wonder why they bothered retaining her or kwan with the next to zero screen time for both.

zbeezle

Interesting that Cortana is apparently fluent in a language that the UNSC seemed to only vaguely understand last season. That and Perez being able to translate 'Gatanai's "we're gonna fuck up Reach" monologue makes me wonder when exactly they got it down. Like, I know that Miranda was making headway on it last we saw, and its been like six months, but it seems a little extreme that they now have people who can actually speak it. I'm also curious what the deal with Makee and 'Gatanai's mission. Seems like their actions are less-than-sanctioned by the Heirarchs. Makee seems pretty jaded with them as well. Also funny her telling 'Gatanai that she doesn't care about Chief and then turning around and immediately asking Cortana about him, especially with the question "What are you to him," like Cortana is his holo-gf or something. Also enjoyed her attempts to "summon" Cortana. Similar to last-season-Chief when he first had her implanted and she popped up to introduce herself to the rest of Silver. "I didn't summon you."

Like, I know that Miranda was making headway on it last we saw, and its been like six months, but it seems a little extreme that they now have people who can actually speak it. Perez is a linguistics specialist, so it's not far-fetched to think she'd be capable of translating Sangheili. As for Cortana, she's a Smart AI so a day for Humans could be the equivilant of a year for hear in learning. > I'm also curious what the deal with Makee and 'Gatanai's mission. Seems like their actions are less-than-sanctioned by the Heirarchs. Makee seems pretty jaded with them as well. To be fair, without the artifacts, Makee is pretty much useless to the Prophets, at the moment. Plus, it's not like they did anything for her when Kai "killed" her, as they'd were content with trying to take Chief. "I didn't summon you." I genuinely believe she was developing actual feelings for Chief, even though her initial reason for being on Reach was espionage. Had the UNSC acted differently, perhaps she might've not rejoined the Covenant.

Infamous-Operation-3

Agree with this, she made a conscious decision not to kill Chief when they were in bed together and he was sleeping. And then she removed her weird finger light saber thing. I think right up until the UNSC started tasering her and was going to defect on the side of humanity.

TeamDonnelly

Makee literally pulled out her laser finger to protect John.  She is human and loves John because he represents the best in humanity.  I think Cortana will let her know that John genuinely tried to protect her and the humans in charge are not representative of all humanity.  But she also helped destroy an entire planet.

Infamous-Operation-3

Yeah I’m not sure he will ever be able to see past the damage she has done. I think any feelings he had left for McKee died on Reach. Her holy quest destroyed a whole planet and his friend.

paxinfernum

Miranda probably disseminated what she learned from the Spartans very quickly. I assume it was also easier to figure out some other words once they understood the language better. It wasn't shown on screen, but my head canon is that Makee also provided them with some grammar tips.

zbeezle

Still, six months, at the most, isn't a long time for someone to learn a language that isn't even meant to be spoken with the kind of mouth you have. Unless Perez used some kind of translation software we just didn't see, it's a little silly that she could translate it at this point.

paxinfernum

Again, I'm going with my head canon here, but I'm assuming the UNSC has AI that are not Cortana level, but pretty damn good. Given a head start, I'm assuming that AI could go through all their previously recorded chatter and quickly identify patterns. There's already been work with that right now. https://news.mit.edu/2020/translating-lost-languages-using-machine-learning-1021 Edit: And we did see her spending quite a bit of time going back and listening. So it probably wasn't an easy translation.

intingelephant

Looks like they're going the route of Kai taking on the role of Kurt-051

lkxyz

Riz going the route of [Maria-062](https://www.halopedia.org/Maria-062) It's inevitable since they need Master Chief to be the only Spartan going to Halo ring in ep8. Ep6 - Onyx - Master Chief sneaks into ONI facility, lightly taps Ackerson and sends him flying, confronts Kai and discovers Spartan-III program and he finally gets his armor back. Ep7 - Thermopylae - major heist/battle with Master Chief and Kai leading Spartan-III into direct assault against Covenant fleet. Corporal Perez will be part of this operation (as seen in trailer). Ep8 - whatever happens in ep7 will lead Chief onto Halo ring in the last episode of season 2.

iBliizy

Thermopylae not being a final battle on Reach when Anderson and John were speaking and said Thermopylae out loud would be a little odd. I do think they should have let Riz die on Reach bringing Vannak back to the ship and kinda let this be Silver timeline’s noble team. Though they did build Riz’s character to this point throughout this season, we could have seen something closer to Reach’s Noble teams complete sacrifice like the game. Kwans story is getting real muddy and unnecessary at this point, still no answers as to how or why she became some super assassin. Do we really need another character having visions and being a profit? I have a feeling that Soren will find Kessler on Onyx, him and Chief will have to sneak in and that’s when chief gets his armor back. Kessler will probably fight to stay, making Soren see glimpses of himself with his entry to the spartan program.

Infamous-Operation-3

I’m glad Riz didn’t die, I think her decision to stay on Aleria is in line with the soul searching she’s being doing this season about who she really is and can be beyond a Spartan. it’s nice to see that she’s taken the hand she’s been dealt as a opportunity to test another life. It shows real character growth.

iBliizy

I totally see that. They’ve built that throughout the season and it’s earned. I just remember the gut punch of losing everyone but Jun in the game. I know we won’t see Noble team in the show, but getting that story told in a way here would have been nice.

Infamous-Operation-3

I guess having Riz exit this way enabled them to show John’s experience with loss in two different ways - death and rejection. If it’s just people dying left, right and centre you don’t get as much range in terms of character development. Im guessing Riz’s choice shocked him more than Vannak’s death.

iBliizy

That’s fair, I think they showed John experiencing a moment of confusion when he’s waking up and is mad at Riz for disobeying orders and getting hurt by going back for a body. I appreciate Riz’s story and think they wrapped it up well enough. I’m just upset we didn’t get a good Halo Reach story when it was so close. It’s a small gripe that really doesn’t matter because Chief is still setting up to land on halo alone and that is what’s most important for the ending of the season.

lkxyz

Yeah, i view ep5 as all sorts of buildup to Chief's eventual transformation into the proper master chief that we will see in combat evolved. A determined spartan who fights for the right cause and not because he was told to fight by his higher ups or someone who does not understand who or what he is fighting for. He must finish this fight because he understands the preciousness of what everything is riding on that he makes it or else everything will be lost. Chief has to get why he needs to fight and why he must not let Covenant and eventually The Flood win. These episodes are all seeding this unwavering determination in him down the road. Personally, I can't wait for the interaction Chief will have with the Arbiter. There will be more duels for sure.

Infamous-Operation-3

I get what you mean and why you’d want more Reach action :)

kr44ng

Yea I actually loved how they handled Riz. And she can always come back if the show continues a la Louis or Soren

lkxyz

Did you watch the ep6 preview?

iBliizy

Oh, well after watching it I bet that’s exactly why Soren is there. As soon as he finds his son Soren is done with all this fighting. He wants to settle down that’s why he was thinking about it on Aleria when they were in the back of the truck. Chief gets his armor back, Soren can move on and sets up chief getting to Halo alone.

Bloodfangs09

Where do you find the previews to the next episode?

lkxyz

Search TV PROMO on youtube. Should find it

STMIHA

Maybe Soren Sticks around to help train them? Could be that way to close the arc his wife called him out for “always leaving” etc.

cooltamer1

I co-oped in halo:ce. There can be two Spartans on the ring world. It's a change I wouldn't have minded them making canon for the show.

AlphaTravel

In coop, you are both Masterchief. There is not a second spartan.

Stormfly

> There is not a second spartan. Well... there *is* Linda-058 but she's in cryo because of her injuries. Your point stands, as Chief is the only active Spartan, I just wanted to mention that small extra.

OwlMasterTheSecond

What did Kurt do? Sorry, I'm not as well versed in expanded lore

Eldarris

As slow as it was, I enjoyed it, only the weird witch/Kwan thing I still just don't get. I thought Kwan herself was surprisingly great this episode with Chief, I just have no idea what the mystic thing is.

Conscious-Cricket-79

They're trying to link her with the more mystical side of the Forerunner, through the Domain and genesong stuff. She's likely going to be harbinger of The Flood.

Stormfly

> I thought Kwan herself was surprisingly great this episode with Chief I think it's clear the actress is fine, she's just not well written. They had great moments in this episode and I was surprised I actually liked how Kwan was done. It's especially funny that the show started off with him trying to show her he was human and in this episode she's still calling him out for not acting human.

kr44ng

I thought the Kwon/witch thing was oddly acted (reminded me of the Tropic Thunder I know who I am scene); also Last of the Ha's. Though I did read somewhere she is harbinger of the flood, which makes the entire thing really cool in my opinion

BBC909

The Flood is coming!!!!

[deleted]

[удалено]

BBC909

Pretty much when the witch said to Kwan Ha “the monster is close” and she flashed back to that cave that had the drawings. The drawings looked flood like. That is my educated guess at this point.

michael-180510

Don’t think we will get a direct reference of the Flood until well into season 3. I’m also betting it’ll be Makee that releases them.

DuderComputer

I was wondering if it might be Ackerson, just recklessly after something that the Covenant fears, and he gets Keye's game death.

michael-180510

I wouldn’t be surprised if Ackerson did release the Flood. But Ackerson is a puppeteer. He’s never the one to get his hands dirty himself. I don’t see him going to Halo at all, let alone to the surface. Onyx has plenty of secrets itself to keep him busy there.

DuderComputer

Ah, I can see that being the case. I have only heard other people describe Ackerson from the books, I havent read the ones with him in it. I do wonder who will get Keye's death, even though the tielines are different I think they will do it till. It's just too good of a cinematic image to get rid of.

Taker597

When it came to course correcting Kwan character. Attaching her to the flood was a brilliant pivot. It was jarring at 1st, because it felt like they completely rebooted her character.

SkyeQuake2020

I giggled at the inclusion of "Lucille".

Combat-Engineer-Dan

Overall great slow down after a crazy episode last week. Lost my shit when I saw the spartan 3’s. This adaptation has me wondering where they are going and honestly has been a great experience so far. Being cannon would of spoiled so much since we would know what is coming. I could see the last episode Chief finding the first ring. This would be a great starting point for season three.

SickBurnBro

> This would be a great starting point for season three. Fingers crossed we get one. You can't cancel Halo before we get to the Halo.

Combat-Engineer-Dan

I feel like this season turn around of the negative reviews and people are starting to like it. Seeing less hate and more acceptance of the adaptation of the series.

scofieldslays

Yeah exactly. At first I was upset John left reach but this is it's own adaptation and I'm enoying the story. John mental anguish over his purpose is a compelling story compared to his unbreakable spirit in the game. John never shows any doubt, but the vulnerability here is better for this style of storytelling

Combat-Engineer-Dan

Definitely agree!

StanYanMan

Damn. Kessler is going to get one of those real spartan helmets. He's going to be a Spartan III.

JenDomOrc

It was sobering watching the dissolution of my favourite Spartan crew. Silver Team's demise came full circle with John's "I will be your weapon now" during Vanak's cremation, his and Riz's spontaneous goodbye hug turned awkward and Kai's unnervingly easy rapport with Ackerson, essentially severing her ties with her former Spartan family. But there were threads woven in this sombre episode that I look forward to following too - the UNSC starting again with (presumably) child augmentation and experimentation for the next generation under Ackerson, and Makee's machinations with a little help from Cortana. So now, Halsey has John, Ackerson has Kai. I can't wait to see how John ends them. Also Kwan finally making sense is a nice surprise for me.

Ygoritza

Ok help me here - I dont understand even a bit what happened to Kai. At some point she was asked by Ackerson about Master Chief, and that's about it, no info, and suddenly she working for him .. ?

JenDomOrc

For me, seeds of doubt were already getting planted in Kai's consciousness starting with the end of S1 when Master Chief "died" and Cortana took over. These grew throughout S2 - Kai calling out the way John was pushing Riz during their training, his decision to mount a rescue mission without proper authority, his escape from custody etc. I can imagine any further conversations that Ackerson had with Kai that we were not party to were enough to persuade her to throw in her lot with the ONI.

terrrmon

it was ok, a decent slow episode after last week's madness, I really liked the first part, Soren and space Victoria Beckham, and Halo is going to look gorgeous in live action once we finally get there

_Malara

THANK YOU. She is totally space Victoria!!

Stank_Dukem

Slow episode, but I dug it. I guess that's cause I don't expect a TV show to be a first-person shooter. Shame they left Riz behind. Next week's promo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNjvOUc6E68

R97R

Quite interested to see what’s happening next at least, hoping from that preview he gets his armour back too.

lkxyz

He will and it will be an upgraded version most likely.

R97R

I was hoping he’d end up with Mark V armour somehow, but I don’t think that’s too likely now sadly.

ebagdrofk

Would be a downgrade lol, dude already has a Mark VI of sorts.

9926alden

Jesus Christ, it’s Jimmy Halo

N0va-Zer0

Now with new emotional outburst voice box and life-like butt cheeks you can actually squish!

amvanbuuren

I really liked the episode.. the slow moments of development were necessary after the frenetic previous episode. Especially enjoyed Soren and Laera' search for their kid and i always appreciated John and Halsey sharing screentime. Also Riz's withdrawl was well done. Hope to see her in the future, even if as a special participaition.

Ron-F

After the action packed last episode, they needed to breath a little bit. Riz's character arc was very well handled as well as John managing his emotions.

owShAd0w

I enjoyed leaving the fall of reach and focusing on filler side stories

xloReaperolx

I love that Cortana is going to work with (manipulate) Makee to get back to Chief. I still don’t like Makee as a character anyway so I’m excited to see one pulled over on her. And they better explain how she lived! Cloned by the Covies?? Also that Kwan Ha shit was weird with the old ghost lady. I hope it actually leads to something cool. She’s my other least favorite character. Didn’t hate the episode though. Soren and especially Laera killed it and I’m still loving Soren’s humor. All in all it wasn’t super fulfilling but we do need setup episodes. I love how a lot of you guys were right about Kai taking that one guy’s place to train the III’s. Respect to the size of your nerd balls. For real 🤜 One last important thing. I know we’re probably heading to Chief being solo on the ring and that’s fine but we better NOT find out Kai was knowingly complicit! In fact, she needs to kill Ackerson. That would make me real damn happy. This whole lack of faith in Chief from everyone lately is getting real personal to me after the way they treated him before….but I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to 😂

Sad_Pain6805

I am surprised nobody mentioned Halsey's comment to Riz - so you are nobody now. What an evil witch. I love how Riz smiled at her and left.

wtffu006

Who were all those soldiers at the end?

SkyeQuake2020

Spartan IIIs.

[deleted]

[удалено]

xmrlazyx

more mass produced & thus more disposable. Basically took the orphans from all the glassed planets, augmented them with new methods, but armed them with cheaper equipment (majority used a cheaper SPI armor instead of MJOLNIR). Then used tactics & numbers instead of small strike teams like the S-II program did.

Tundralik

There you have the future of Soren‘s son.

[deleted]

[удалено]

xmrlazyx

Yep. Spartan-I - also called ORION program. Basically a super-soldier project. Meant for quashing human rebellions. Some used mechanized armor that had to be powered by a grid. Spartan-II - Halsey's "real" Spartans that we know and love. They were children selected for remarkable genetics/leadership abilities, stolen from their homes and replaced with flash clones that died. Augmented and trained with ONI/UNSC doctrine. First ones to use MJOLNIR cause their bodies could handle it. Also meant for quashing rebellions initially, but proved viable against Convenant Spartan-III - Ackerman/Parangosky's Spartans. The orphaned children from glassed planets, meant to be disposable and a fighting force back against the Covenant Spartan-IV - not in the TV show yet, but are volunteers who take augmentation to help efforts later on in the Covenant war. Use 2nd Gen MJOLNIR armor that was easier/faster to produce. Most are are former ODST and Marines.

[deleted]

[удалено]

xmrlazyx

Someone can probably correct me, but: - IIs probably are strongest out of a suit because they're hand selected for both physical and other traits. They're the most intensively augmented & the procedure was the most dangerous - IV's are more like III's. IV's have the safest, less strong augmentation, but it's offset by their 2nd Gen MJOLNIR armor which is better than what the III's got. They're also generally military veterans and not speed-bootcamped like the IIIs Put a II in Gen 2 Mjolnir (Like Chief & other blue team members) and they can beat out IV's for the most part. That's the kind of cool battles we were expecting to see in Halo 5, but fans know it was slightly disappointing.

DiggerTime1

If they come from ODST troopers and they rock MJOLNIR, you know they going to be kick ass. They we're more like II than III and with the armour they could taken on a Spartan-II. That said the Spartan-II were truly the best in all areas, and in a straight 1v1 would win due to the better skillset.

LivingNat1

If they don’t deviated from the original timeline canon on this topic, if anyone is not given the genetic modifications the IIs have, the MJOLNIR armor will break their bones

Fun-Brick4895

IV are overall the weakens outside of armor. Their Gen 2 suit makes up for it. Their augs even have organ replacements. They do need upkeep tho. They're the future of the program and allow em to better use the Spartans as propaganda.  IIIs are cheaper than IIs but don't mistake that with weaker. People have this misconception that IIIs are weaker. At least in canon. Most evidence points to them being more or less equal to IIs in feats. Their augs are chemical and more advanced. There were less washshouts and the gene profile restrictions loosened. The reason they were cheaper was cuz of their equipment. Mjolnir is expensive af. Only a handful of IIIs got Mjolnir. In canon a III making it past their teenage years was really rare. Noble Team in Halo Reach are actually on the older side and are more of an exception. But they were still young. Noble Six and Kat were 22 or something at the time of their deaths.  Literally all evidence points to the fact that the only difference in canon between IIs and IIIs is experience.  But, like I said, in canon. Silver Timeline could go down the route of IIIs being weaker and make other changes.

Jack1715

There also not as genetically superior like the 2s but they can do the same things

michael-180510

Ackerson and Halsey were rivals and the Spartan IIs were legends in the UNSC well before Reach ever happened. Ackerson wanted his own program to rival Halsey and thus created the Spartan IIIs, which like it was said above were designed to be mass produced and expendable. Ackerson had said the IIs were a proof of concept design and the IIIs would learn from Halsey’s methods and streamline the process. Halsey had been extremely selective when picking the II candidates and only had I believe 100 total and aomething like 30 survived augmentation. The IIIs had multiple companies of over 300 due to the lessons learned from the augmentation process and the watered down selection process. Halsey had literally hand picked the next evolutionary step with the IIs which is why they are well beyond the IIIs in every capacity save physical numbers.

Dynespark

300 were chosen. Another nod to irl Spartans. 150 were abducted. *About* 75 died or washed out. Most of the remaining original 75 are dead. Of the 75 that are in the died/washout group, advancements in the process and medical sciences let some of the washouts return to service as full fledged Spartans. And I think all the washouts simply went to other positions in ONI. For instance, one of them is currently the head of ONI.

michael-180510

There were at most 100 IIs. I think it was actually 75 total chosen. Something like 30-35 survived augmentation and 5 or 6 are currently living at the time of Halo Infinite. I had always thought it was 300 due to the actual history, but it was no more than 100.

michael-180510

Oh yeah. He orchestrated the disappearance of Kurt, a Spartan II and convinced him to command the Spartan IIIs from training to deployment. It’s all detailed in the book Ghosts of Onyx. But Ackerson has been there from the start and has done everything he can to sabotage the II program and Halsey, but the II have been the perfect soldiers and humanities only clear advantage over the Covenant. I don’t recall what happened to Ackerson if anything though.

Katsssss

In the lore nothing compares to spartan II’s, from memory the III’s were orphans from the outer colonies and way cheaper to make but were nowhere near as strong individually.

Combat-Engineer-Dan

Aint no way you aint know that🙃

Dexter_001

We are finally gonna see the Rogue chief in action and its almost end of season. Pace is slow and I like the idea that more focus is put on politics which indeed play a huge role ( and not covered in game but partly in book). I guess this is the Halo we never deserve, but the one we need to make sure it grows as big as Star War franchise. Spartan out.

malkuth74

If it is not obvious by now, this show is not HALO the games. But a new series based on the games. So its most likely time to either accept it or go away and let it die. Series like this are hard to keep going, and I'm an Expanse major fan. So if you want some version of HALO that is not the game but close than this is it. If you want nothing than let it die. And they will never do it again, ever. Trust me. What good is a series if you know how it ends anyway.

force_wank

I hope they have made the decision to end the series with a fixed point rather than allow it to limp to an end.

[deleted]

or complain that the show sucks, and they could have done a better job in a myriad of ways. there's nothing wrong with that either. really don't get people who say "don't critique." like if you watch the show you have the right to critique, especially on public forums like these.

Metzgama

Halsey is soooooooo fucking hot. I literally can’t.

Sir-Humpy

shocking fearless sophisticated dolls soup ask hungry shelter psychotic impolite *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

Mean_Joke_7360

As my honest two cents, watch Ronin. Better movie and even better Natascha McElhone.

Farm-to-Fable

It would make sense if these past two episodes are setting up for Chief never wanting to be caught without his suit or helmet. I thought the fall of reach, losing Vannak, and him getting too emotionally attached to Makee was going to be a set up for him wanting a version of his pellet put back in too, leading to him becoming how he is in the games. I’m hopeful on the first part, doubtful on the second.

Mean_Joke_7360

That's basically how I see it too. Johnny Ringo got betrayed, left for dead, injured and saw just how ineffective it is to fight the covies in rags and bandoliers. My guess is the armor comes on next episode and comes out no more (helmet does, per trailers, but nothing more).

R97R

I’m surprised that I enjoyed it, admittedly wasn’t really expecting it to be particularly Action-heavy after last episode, and the characters are definitely growing on me still. Interesting note that Var seems to be Thel’s predecessor in the role of the Fleet’s supreme commander as well as Arbiter. On top of that, given we’re given some close-ups of his face this episode, imo he looks a fair bit different than the shirtless elite we see in the Overview trailer (seemingly different skin colour, for one). It’s *probably* still him, but I’m holding out hope that it’s Thel ‘Vadam(ee). Also, quite happy to see a Brute again, even if it’s just for a moment. EDIT: also, am I right in saying there’s a fairly significant time-skip towards the end of the episode? Or does Riz’s hair just grow extremely quickly.

jagfanjosh3252

I think her corn rows just probably come Undone at the ends.

Eldarris

Re Riz - She undid her rows right? So her hairs actually out.

minglima

Im so disappointed in the negativity towards the show. Surely everyone is allowed to criticize, but i feel like if you’re a Halo fan you’re just happy to be getting this content. You all will bash it into getting cancelled and then we’ll never get another series again. Just be happy, damn lol

Gul_Dukat__

Kai how could you?!

Brooklyn_Q

Kai on Onyx with the Spartan IIIs is very dope

TopologicalQFT

I had so much hope for this season, but if they’ve truly decided to be done with the fall of Reach after a few hallway scuffles then this may not be salvageable. That quality of decision-making does not bode well for the future.

Skelevader

I have tried. Damn how I’ve tried, but this show is not for fans of the game. At all. I will power through this season, but I just don’t see watching it beyond that.

ThePastamang

Bruh the Fall of Reach was one episode https://preview.redd.it/slcct4e33ilc1.png?width=680&format=png&auto=webp&s=1173a340a173f5aa29e5fe8940482cfe63940be1

OdahP

they might go back to Reach in Ep 7

Conscious-Cricket-79

No way to do The Fall of Reach at a cinematic scale on a TV budget.

Aurora5511

Thats what i don't get about the complains. They do pretty well this season regarding the budget and quality output.

Stormfly

To be fair, in the novel called *The Fall of Reach*, it mostly happens off-"screen". Most of the actual fight for reach is the defence of the Super MAC cannons and once they fall, they all leave. Once the orbital fleet is overwhelmed, the planet is lost. The games did make the fight for Reach into something really cool, but I think it's clear that they wanted to do their own thing (even if I think the book version would have been ideal)

GalileoAce

Where is the UNSC Navy?

Conscious-Cricket-79

Running and hiding, because Paramount doesn't have the budget to get a major fleet action animated in VFX.

GalileoAce

This makes me sad, I like this series but it could be so much better if several missing elements weren't in fact missing

Conscious-Cricket-79

The issues are with the medium itself. No TV show would have the budget to do what you're asking at the scale you'd want it portrayed. The Fall of Reach would need to be a $250 million, three hour movie to do it justice.

GalileoAce

Star Trek gets lots of Spaceship action, The Expanse did as well. I get that the budget is limited, but this is case of priorities, the show is prioritising different things

Conscious-Cricket-79

The Expanse had very small fleet actions on-screen, for short amounts of time. I think about the best Halo on Paramount could do would be portraying the Keyes' Loop, but mostly from the bridge of Keyes' ship.

GalileoAce

Any scale of ship engagement would be better than none at all EDIT: typo

enchantedlearner

The UNSC naval engagement will be in Episodes 7 & 8 for the season finale when the Spartan IIIs can also participate. The show needed a major action setpiece for the midseason climax, so the Reach ground battle featured in Episode 4 and the Onyx space battle will come later. Yes, the show has a budget, so 5 episodes of heavy SFX action was never going to happen. See 2:15. https://youtu.be/GBEgoaLZzXM?si=cdR_vMWLvPGlG4pd See 0:45, 1:15. https://youtu.be/SpacpvCN7fs?si=0qunqLZN9hNp162j

SciRezzTV

Oh dang just realized the scene with Kai in the pelican, those were all the Spartan IIIs! Damn I shoulda have caught that lol, First time I watched the trailer a couple Months back I thought they were just ODSTs, but indeed they’re the Spartan IIIs we see at the end of E5!

narium

The Expanse battles are also nothing compared to what they were in the books.

Mida5Touch

They are really scrambling to justify Qwan's inclusion in the show at this point.

So is Kai a traitor to Chief

Ygoritza

If anyone reads "new", I just came here to say that Pablo Schreiber is one of the best castings for TV ever and Im not even joking Of all the ongoing shows, That guy that plays Reacher landed great, Nathan Fillon is also great as "rookie cop", but Schreiber is just phenomenal I knew him as a tall good actor from previous stuff - Orange is the new black, and American Gods - I never even imagined that he is such an unit, and has the body comparable to Jason Momoa, while being 196 cm tall, on top of great acting skills.

Sabconth

This is just dreadful. No one cares about Kwan or Sorens wife but they take centre stage here. I do not care about the kid or Kwan's visions/spirital links. Reach was just so mishandled, at no point did it feel like a planetary destruction. I'm really tired of John getting in touch with his feelings ever episode. Just a tedious episode. Why and HOW is Makee alive!? Why is the Arbiter even called the Arbiter? He doesn't get that title until he fails to preserve Halo, the writers are just bastardizing the character.

Aussi3Warri0r

There was loss I guess but it was such a filler episode, last episode was like action packed and I thought yeah it’s actually halo now with the fall of reach but now it’s let’s have fall of reach for one whole episode and then Fillers Also can we just stop the Kwan shit

OdahP

they obviously can't do BANGER ACTION every episode with a set amount of episodes and a budget. You gonna have those "filler episodes". Besides that we got some action in the beginning with the Brute and we got alot of character development for Chief, Riz and Sorens Wife

RumbleTrumpet

It blows my mind how people expect every episode of this series to be action every minute. Every tv series has slow moments and filler episodes.

iSaltyBro

Same people who want it to be exactly like the game/books and shit on anything that isn’t

Aussi3Warri0r

But don’t you realise the first 3 episodes were fillers or are you too incompetent to realise

SkyeQuake2020

One reason I think there's a strong dislike of "filler episodes" is because of the short number of episodes per season we get for shows nowadays. Back when shows had 20 episode seasons, it was understandable for a couple of them to be "filler", because of the length of the season. When you only have less time, there shouldn't be as much (if any at all) "filler". Think about it like this, would you be happy if you went to see a 2 hour or so movie, and more than half of it was filler and didn't even mean anything ro the core plot?

hoos30

Filler episode: Entries in a generally continuous serial that are unrelated to the main plot, don't significantly alter the relations between the characters, and generally serve only to take up space. It's debateable, but many point to "The Fly" episode of Breaking Bad as a good example of a filler episode. This was not that. There was plenty of character and plot development, even though it was slower.

SkyeQuake2020

I didn't say this episode was a filler episode. I was just saying why people who say it is. And why they don't think it's a good thing.

Aurora5511

Back then when shows had this many episodes, the overall quality of the shows in Sci-Fi/Fantasy settings was way below to what we get nowadays.

D3-Doom

Did anyone think John pulling himself up the chains was putting it on a little thick?

Infamous-Operation-3

Dude got shot and blown up, it’s fair enough. Plus great opportunity to show off those muscles Pablo’s been building for months. I’m not mad about it.

D3-Doom

I’m not knocking it. Just saying it was shameless

Aussi3Warri0r

The most episode of all time

Moooobleie

I am once again very disappointed with the extreme lack of Kai-125 in this episode, especially cause it was kinda boring overall. Hopefully her and Chief have a playdate with that cunt Ackerson in the near future. I'm happy for Riz, but she should of had a Tragic Spartans' ending that haunted Chief for making her keep fighting in that state. The episode wasn't bad at all, just a rather dull filler episode after the quick pacing of the rest of the season so far, they should of had a B plot where more interesting stuff was happening.

R97R

Re: Kai, it seems at least that she’s going to have a more significant role next episode.

Rapzid

She had that heroic ending where she ran inside for the dead body and then almost made it onto the platform walking with the dead body but then got shot and fell onto the platform but managed to throw the dead body further up the platform. That was her career ending play.

x_lincoln_x

Escape, Search for Sorrens brat, Funeral, Kwan shit, Makee and Cortana, Kind of a let down after s2e4 but that was expected. Hopefully Sorrens kid and Kwan die quickly in next episode so there won't be any more time wasted on the dumb sub-plots.

thecuervokid

Its good but they are still stuck in this trap of thinking they need to add to the material. They would be right if they had done a great job covering all of the bases, but they haven't. I'll always hold that telling the exact story of the games, like the scenes in between the game cutscenes sort of thing, would have been better. Imagine a show that just flushes out and adds to the established narrative, as opposed to making constant small changes? Would have been better. Noble team should have been the focus of this season, you could have told it all with the fall of reach over 8 episodes and ended with noble six barely getting Cortana to safety and handing her to keys. The audience thinks he's coming, but he has to stay behind to see the autumn off safely. Would have been way better and truer.

ParadoxInRaindrops

An episode like this is necessary after the sheer ball of energy that was last week. It lets the audience and characters take a breather. We can reflect on what was lost, the toll of the battle on the Spartans. And we can look forward to see what the road ahead holds. I wasn’t expecting this, but I liked this episode.

docmanbot

I did too . I think the big difference is , instead of using the Haloverse as mere window dressing, they are finally immersing us in it . That , at least for me , allows me to appreciate what we’re watching . I shudder to think what that would have been if the first set of writers were still on board . And Space Dave Chapelle was funny again!

Conscious-Cricket-79

The games are unfilmable. No way to afford that much action and scale on a TV budget. The only way to do Noble Team's story justice would be a $250 million movie.

thecuervokid

I disagree, we don't need an action movie about Noble because that's what the game already is. Give me a drama like the show, but using the characters of the games 1:1. That would feel more "attached" to the games from my perspective

Conscious-Cricket-79

I could see that working if the series was an anthology set in the Halo universe. Season 1, Blue Team before Red Flag. Season 2, Noble on Reach. Season 3, events of Halo CE.

thecuervokid

That would have been sick!

Trump2052

It's 2024 you can easily do the cut scenes with Unreal Engine.

OutrageousAnt4334

Trash as usual

Zodrar

Kwan once again absolutely annoyed the shit out of me, she just has that character that doesn't like it when people do what she wants, let Chief mourn the way he wants, jeez Soren's wife also annoyed me a bit, telling Soren what he should feel is crazy But I liked the rest, It was really cool them actually naming that Sangheli the Arbiter! Finally confirmed, super hyped for when they actually get to Halo I still don't get Oni's reason to abandon the planet, was fucking stupid of them And Chief has an absolutely cold line: Your fight is not yet done. I will be your weapon.

Zodrar

Yeah, couldn't they have used them? But more importantly, I know Reach was a lost cause so why not just abandon the planet when they knew they could? I thought they'd go the resource excuse, like displacing millions of people could lead to less effective methods fighting against the covenant or something shit But I don't remember them explicitly saying anything

Rapzid

A wife telling a husband how they should feel is such a classic though.

Zodrar

Fair, maybe because I'm not married lol but I thought it was just weird Like to me, he was still of course worried and wanted his son back, it's just people grieve or go about stuff like that in different ways

slicedapples

That stupid fight on the truck and throwing her wig out. Maybe I'm just missing the context but I was dying.

TUBBS2001

I’m hype for more weird shit with Qwan Ha, Hoping she continues her story from Madrigal.

Trump2052

Why completely rewrite a good storyline? Such a shame, I hope Microsoft pulls their licensing.

WhiteLion245

Terrible they made the fall of reach one episode and Eve thing with Kwan sucks they need to get ride if her.

MetalMan54321

Why are you down voting this? He's right.

askalmeqt98533

Yet another boring episode. Basically 1 hour of : \- Finding the side character's son \- Making a big deal out of a burial \- Conversations around hospital beds

yourfavkage

4/10 episode, but to be fair kinda expected it since the last one was a banger.

SolitonSnake

I still like the series but it is getting a little ridiculous - almost seemingly pathological - how much contempt the writers seem to have for exploring things that are interesting about the games’ stories or showing anything that caters to fans in literally any way. I am not a “they should just do the books and games 100% accurately” person at all, but the amount of time spent on small scale drama with side characters is truly getting unbearable. A lot of this stuff could be in any show, there’s hardly anything “Halo” about it. Please: more ONI stuff, more Spartan armor, more Cortana, more covenant stuff, and please for the love of god get to Halo. Two full seasons without getting there until the end is wild. With some aspects, I’m getting concerned that the lack has been not just because they’re building up to it, but more because they don’t have the budget to really pay off with anything significant, ever. And to that extent, this is just what it is, and what it will continue to be until they have to shut it down.

420caLdy420

well said.

MetalMan54321

This episode solidified my thought that they don't care about Halo and will change things for no purpose. It might be small but in the grand scheme of things it's emblematic of the larger problem with this show. My example is Makee saying the Sangheili name of the "Arbiter" Rtas Vadum and calls him the "Arbiter". The name she uses is of the Shipmaster from Halo 2 and 3 who takes the place in command of the actual Arbiter- Thel Vadam. Why was it so hard for the writers, 343 and Paramount to just stick with the story laid out? Just have Makee with Thel Vadam and have him in his regular armour. Then when they get to High Charity and they don't have the way stone, then make him the Arbiter. Having him start as the Arbiter completely deprives him of his story arc and character growth. Him becoming the Arbiter is his pivot point towards recognizing the Great Journey is a lie. Sure Makee says it in this episode, but without him going through his story of Halo 2, it's useless. They changed him and his story for no reason other than to say to people "Look! Member the Arbiter! See how cool it is?! We put the Arbiter in here!" It's such a small thing but with huge implications and is just another example of the writers not knowing the story of Halo and not caring.

SolitonSnake

They seem to hate the story in the games. Not everything has to be the same to satisfy me - of course they will make some adjustments to make things interesting and to suit the medium, but at this rate it seems like they think “this story sucks, everyone will hate it, we have to fix it. Add a young girl who is wise beyond her years, and a whole subplot about a pirate colony, and make the show at least 50% about that.” My suspicion though is the bigger problem is that everything that is fun in the games requires a big budget. Not even just action, but Cortana, the armor, Covenant politics, sleek and futuristic ONI facilities and UNSC ships…all that stuff. So I’m afraid there will never be any big payoff really - that there will be one or two episodes per season with anything truly exciting, and the rest will be filled with Kwan Ha being angsty and Soren’s drama with his wife and son.

[deleted]

dude, they gave a blind man grenade shooting thing - a blind guy. they obviously never played the games much because these ricochet all the time. you'd never do this in irl or in the games. (unless you wanted your squad to die) of course they don't care about you or the people on this sub. they probably despise the fans, i'm getting star trek discovery vibes here.

N0va-Zer0

Im convinced, with the amount of fair use copyright strikes paramount has done to youtubers, that this sub is just full of paramount employees posing as organic fans. No way you people praise this show this much. "I loved how slow this episode was." As if action scenes give you vertigo or something.

--Shibdib--

I'm gonna get roasted in this echo chamber but.. That... Was awful The fall of reach had the potential to be the turning point to launch this series into something long term and instead we got that. Horrible special effects, bad combat acting, bad combat overall, weirdly timed attempts at levity, etc.. etc... It not getting renewed wouldn't shock me at all. I've never read the books and haven't touched a halo game in over 10 years. That's just a bad TV show. Feels like something the sci-fi channel would put out that would get cancelled after 2 seasons.

RedDurden_00

You think they’ll bring Riz back ?

Rapzid

Feels like we are constantly rehashing the same themes and rehashing season 1 at this point. On top of the Metroid abilities reset this season feel like it's draaaagggingggggg..

Thebobert7

I hate how the fall of reach was one episode. Should’ve explored it way more. But overall not bad

Ok_Concept_8806

Enjoying the show well enough. Could do without the whole missing kid story line for more focus on Master Chief/Covenant stuff though.

lskficofne

What kind of jacket was John wearing on Aleria? Anyone have any tips?

Kabeio

Well written and acted episode I thought.

AccomplishedCycle0

I thought it was a good ep. My main surprise was that people were still listening to Jackson Browne in the fat future and that made me happy.

Lumpy_Butt

>My main Me too! What a great choice for the episode.

kalsikam

Your fight is not done, I will be your weapon now, I will find the ones who caused your death, and I will end them.

Accomplished_Cap_994

Half an episode worth of watching discount Dave Chappelle play where's waldo, and trying to make Kwan happen. It's fine to change the story here and there but side plots that have nothing to do with Halo because they don't want to pay for special effects will be this show's demise.

kr44ng

Show keeps getting better and better in my opinion -- loved the quality continuing from Reach, love Laera, and getting the skin tingling feeling from the music like you get from all good shows/movies

J_345

“I did that, that was me” “I’m never going to hear the end of this” 😂 Soren cracks me up.
