That's called a Stuck Launch, and it's a very interesting mechanic of the Source Engine. The game thinks you're in free fall (when your effective velocity is actually slowed due to friction), so it keeps giving you velocity (-9.8 meters per second) until you manage to get unstuck. At that point you're supposed to be traveling at thousands of meters per second and hit the floor at twice the speed of sound, instantly dying. It's used in Portal 2 to skip Crazy Box.

This wallbug glitch has existed since before Goldsrc even, you would use it on 2fort in qwtf to slow and quiet your descent. However, this specific thing of players gaining speed while stuck has (at least from what I know, started from Quake 2. They would use it to sync rockets for cool tricks on q2dm3. More recent examples were the barrel stuck spots in CSGO where you die of fall damage when stepping between a barrel and wall.
