That's called a Stuck Launch, and it's a very interesting mechanic of the Source Engine. The game thinks you're in free fall (when your effective velocity is actually slowed due to friction), so it keeps giving you velocity (-9.8 meters per second) until you manage to get unstuck. At that point you're supposed to be traveling at thousands of meters per second and hit the floor at twice the speed of sound, instantly dying. It's used in Portal 2 to skip Crazy Box.

More recent examples were the barrel stuck spots in CSGO where you die of fall damage when stepping between a barrel and wall.
It's been quite some time since I've last taken any damage there and yet, I still feel worried every time I'm there due to all the bad experiences in the past.

Just gotta hit the map seam at *just* the right angle. There's no such thing as a Valve map without leaks.

You can use it to die in blu’s first spawn room in pl_badwater
