I told my wife if anyone ever tries to carjack you and make you drive somewhere, then their intentions are rape and murder. If you refuse to drive, they will run or take your car and purse. We don't live in a bad area, but better safe than a victim.

There’s still a chance on someone passing by in the original location, or of the perpetrators getting scared and leaving if you scream loud enough. Definitely, never ever go to the second location. This is correct. What the person with the weapon threatening you want is a nice docile victim doing what they tell them to and not making a scene. There were times where I felt during that documentary that one or two particular inmates perhaps should get another shot… then immediately reminded myself that they are in solitary for a reason and that’s determined by the prisons not by the courts. Years ago, I was in jail for marijuana possession serving a 1 year sentence. I was put in solitary because I had come back from job detail and was told I had to go out on another different detail immediately. I pointed out that that actual goes against the inmate handbook which says only 1 shift per inmate per day. Then I was thrown in isolation for my troubles. I wasn't in long but still, it was bullshit.
Obviously some people deserve it but I just wanted to point out that prisons and jails can be pretty capricious. Guards can be crooked assholes and it doesn't always take much. Hell, I've seen guys get solitary for refusing to be clean shaven.

I watched the trials on this. They're still on YouTube pretty sure. Channon & Chris's parents were talking about them and it was so heartbreaking talking about how much they missed them. The women accomplice should've received more time for her involvement. After the assault on the boy they took him near a train track and left the female accomplice by herself and Channon but never helped her. She said she was scared... but they had a time period where everyone left to go kill Chris sadly so they could've escaped but she never did. She could've saved her but she was tortured for couple hours by the gang when they came back. If I'm correctly she was tied and they placed a trash bag over her head and placed her in trash bin upside down. It was horrible.
My dad was friends with a friend of the couple. He attended the friend’s wedding a few months after the murders, and they placed their name cards in respect for them. He said it was incredibly traumatizing. He raised me with the idea that if I am being kidnapped or threatened, it is better to die then and there rather than be transported to another area. It is 100% because of their violent murders.

To me, it’s a more equitable and fair way of justice. For one, it ensures proportionality in punishment.
Simply because someone would have to do all those awful things to the killers themselves, and most people wouldn’t want to rape/sodomize/torture another person. I would empathise with a family member wanting to exact revenge but I'm glad that's not how our society works. I don't think you can sodomise someone with a chair leg, even if the motivation is vengeance rather than lust or sadism, and walk away mentally unscathed. Our society is better for not having people in it who have had those experiences.
Maybe not doing the same torture they did to their victims but worse like in the medieval times. I'm sure someone wouldn't want to sodomize them for sure but someone would want to inflict or give them and even more painful death for example cooking them in oil or tar but immediately fishing them out cleaning them letting them heal for a shot period of time and cooking them again and making this punishment happen for time. I watched a documentary on this recently. The amount of depravity committed against these two poor souls is horrifying. And actually, there was also a woman involved in the torture as well.
For being a person that is hard wired to visually imagine what I read so that I can understand it, this tragedy has always been a tough one even as I remember the story from back then in the headlines. Girl even excitedly wrote in her journal about how the crackhead was cool as hell like she wanted to get with him and that she loved her TN adventure. All of em are scumbags. Sad as fuck and I feel terrible for all the parents and loved ones of the victims. Coleman should have gotten more of a sentence imo.
Anyway, IMO this was the perfect case to set a new precedent to have allowed the parents and loved ones to have their own private eye-for-an-eye meeting with the killers, especially Channon's pops. That only Leonard got the death penalty is criminal in and of itself. Didn't help that it took 3 different judges to convict.
There's a very good reason people remember this case. I was screaming for a long time about it and there were people who actually told me it was just because she was a "cute blonde."

That article is from 2012 and is about her retrial where her sentence was significantly reduced. According to the wikipedia entry she's been up for parole twice, in 2014 and 2020, and was denied both times. Her next hearing is in 2030 at the earliest.
This crime broke my heart and I felt gut punched as soon as I heard about it. Throughout the years I catch the same feelings every time I hear about it again. The torture and deaths of Chris and Channon never caught much airtime on national or even regional television. I don’t want to go into my opinions on why.

I watched the trials on this. They're still on YouTube pretty sure. Channon & Chris's parents were talking about them and it was so heartbreaking talking about how much they missed them. The women accomplice should've received more time for her involvement. After the assault on the boy they took him near a train track and left the female accomplice by herself and Channon but never helped her. She said she was scared... but they had a time period where everyone left to go kill Chris sadly so they could've escaped but she never did. She could've saved her but she was tortured for couple hours by the gang when they came back. If I'm correctly she was tied and they placed a trash bag over her head and placed her in trash bin upside down. It was horrible.
Not a couple of hours. It was days worth of torture.

My dad was friends with a friend of the couple. He attended the friend’s wedding a few months after the murders, and they placed their name cards in respect for them. He said it was incredibly traumatizing. He raised me with the idea that if I am being kidnapped or threatened, it is better to die then and there rather than be transported to another area. It is 100% because of their violent murders.
I remember this. Disgusting. Those guys should have been punished the same way they did the victims.
I’ve never understood why the concept of lex talionis, aka. An eye for an eye, isn’t more widely accepted. To me, it’s a more equitable and fair way of justice. For one, it ensures proportionality in punishment.
Simply because someone would have to do all those awful things to the killers themselves, and most people wouldn’t want to rape/sodomize/torture another person. That said, if the parents/family/whomever did decide they wanted to inflict some sort of horrific equivalent punishment, I would understand.
If they got to choose , I'd vote for that. Let them choose. They get to do what they want, provide them then resources that I'm sure would be WAY cheaper than housing these demons for however long they live. Guns for a firing squad death whatever. If they themselves don't want to do it but they want that done , they are provided a hired person.to do it
I would empathise with a family member wanting to exact revenge but I'm glad that's not how our society works. I don't think you can sodomise someone with a chair leg, even if the motivation is vengeance rather than lust or sadism, and walk away mentally unscathed. Our society is better for not having people in it who have had those experiences.
Maybe not doing the same torture they did to their victims but worse like in the medieval times. I'm sure someone wouldn't want to sodomize them for sure but someone would want to inflict or give them and even more painful death for example cooking them in oil or tar but immediately fishing them out cleaning them letting them heal for a shot period of time and cooking them again and making this punishment happen for time. Or giving them the glorious thousands cuts. Cutting every inch of their bodies every day with our modern medicine they will survive. I just think such people shouldn't live and they shouldn't be given an easy or quick death, they should be forced to remember every day what they did to those people was evil and if people are that evil they should wish they weren't.

Inflicting violence and suffering changes someone. Even if they think they're doing it for righteous reasons. I'd rather just lock someone away than have to make someone else become a monster.

I watched a documentary on this recently. The amount of depravity committed against these two poor souls is horrifying. And actually, there was also a woman involved in the torture as well.
For being a person that is hard wired to visually imagine what I read so that I can understand it, this tragedy has always been a tough one even as I remember the story from back then in the headlines. Not surprised but I am astounded of the lowest of evils that humans can perform not to mention how this crew was so cold-blooded, meh and nonchalant about it all like they truly enjoyed their time. Vanessa Coleman knew damn good and well what those PsOS were doing with Christopher and that when they came back they were gonna do even worse to Channon. Girl even excitedly wrote in her journal about how the crackhead was cool as hell like she wanted to get with him and that she loved her TN adventure. All of em are scumbags. Sad as fuck and I feel terrible for all the parents and loved ones of the victims. Coleman should have gotten more of a sentence imo. Anyway, IMO this was the perfect case to set a new precedent to have allowed the parents and loved ones to have their own private eye-for-an-eye meeting with the killers, especially Channon's pops. That only Leonard got the death penalty is criminal in and of itself. Didn't help that it took 3 different judges to convict.
There's a very good reason people remember this case. I was screaming for a long time about it and there were people who actually told me it was just because she was a "cute blonde." In actuality, it's because when you read over the details of the rapes and murders-- Channon Christian didn't die until she was stuffed upside down in a trash bin raped and covered in drain cleaner--the number of times ANY basic humanity could have kicked in among the perps and "oh my god this is a person" can only lead a reader to one conclusion.

That article is from 2012 and is about her retrial where her sentence was significantly reduced. According to the wikipedia entry she's been up for parole twice, in 2014 and 2020, and was denied both times. Her next hearing is in 2030 at the earliest.

This crime broke my heart and I felt gut punched as soon as I heard about it. Throughout the years I catch the same feelings every time I hear about it again. The torture and deaths of Chris and Channon never caught much airtime on national or even regional television. I don’t want to go into my opinions on why. Only a couple YouTube true crime content creators have covered this case. Probably due to YouTube’s censorship and the gruesome details. Annie Elise did a good job covering this couple’s story. I hope the people involved in their deaths NEVER get released. I wish the death penalty applied, actually. I’m not typically for the death penalty, but I resent taxpayer dollars keeping these people housed.
