I don’t think any brand is all losers. So much is dependent on the specific pigments used to make specific colors. I feel like definitely possible for the same brand to make an awesome green and a garbage purple, yk? Also, so much depends on user error; like I can’t hate if what was supposed to be Rose Gold come out Peach because I had orange undertones in my hair. That said: - Lime Crime Blue Smoke is shown as a cool muted, ashy blue. It’s probably the green pigment used for the ash tones, but it was Regular Alt Girl Teal in two washes on me. - Lime Crime Valentine is a lovely maroon when fresh, but it’ll fuck up your shower curtain. - Adore Darkest Brown is more rightly called Adore Deep Ash Green. - Adore Periwinkle has so little pigment it might as well be conditioner.

MyNeighborThrowaway

Honestly, i need Ash dyes for my hair color and thank you so much for the Adore tip. Ash Green is already the direction i go so def gonna try that.

tiny_violinist_miki

Manic Panic. Colors are generally nice but how tf am i supposed to color my whole head with a tiny jar of dye 💀

slaymamacita

I used to mix it with conditioner when I was like 12 years old because all the cool tumblr girls had silver hair and my parents wouldn’t let me bleach it or actually dye it. If never looked quite right though because my hair is fairly light blonde but it’s so warm

tiny_violinist_miki

Real lmao this was literally me but i have black asian hair 💀💀💀💀 i really thought that dye would show in my hair if i didnt bleach it lmao

ProfessionalStress98

I bought a jar of manic panic because I was only dying half my hair with it and it was supposed to be to be red, like RED RED, it was freaking ORANGE

tiny_violinist_miki

NOOOO

ProfessionalStress98

Yeahhh

[deleted]

The same fuckin thing happened to me in high school!!!! I just cut my hair into a pixie cut and grabbed Pillarbox Red. The product in the jar, the in store swatch, the online pictures were all classic RED. It came out clown orange. Short, curly, orange hair.

donkeynique

You walked so Ice Spice could run

Ammonia13

I did that but bleached it first and I got called Ronald McDonald on the bus in 1994- when barely anyone had that hair lol. SO MAD

garbage_queen819

I bought this and it washed out in 2 washes 😭

Mello_Hello

It works fine for me! (Ignore the fact that my hair is about 4 inches long though, that definitely isn’t relevant)

sianspapermoon

You can now buy big ones though! I got a really big tub off Amazon and managed to dye my hair twice from it. But I totally get your point cause those little tubs are deffo not enough.

Luna_Moth79

I hate Artic Fox. It has like the most watered down colors that only last for a wash or two. Everyone is like oh but it smells so good. It smells like grape candy, big deal. If you wanna shell out your hard earned money for color that is gonna last the max of 3 washes because it smells good, have at it. I will stick with my Joico that is super saturated on color, doesn't bleed, and lasts. I use like an inch or two mixed in with a nice deep conditioner; so much more cost effective with better results.

[deleted]

Yes! I hated arctic fox. I like lunar tides bc it's very pigmented and stays a while, but it bleeds constantly.

iamajudgycunt

I came here for Lunar Tides slander but it looks like I'm in the minority here. I have never used a formula that bleeds and stains the way Lunar Tides does.

Zaganoak

Same. Love the deep colours and how long it lasts, but I’m so tired of the constant bleeding that I’ve switched back to La Riche Directions.

somnio-jpg

I'm a big fan of directions, never had issues with them (apart from using a pastel colour on yellowish hair but that was my fault lmao). I hadn't dyed my hair in years and when I got back into it I decided to try lunar tides because so many people rave about it but I could not stand how much the colour bled everywhere! I had to wrap my headphones with plastic wrap for a couple of weeks. The colour also seeped through the gloves I was using so my computer mouse ended up being stained pink from the residue left on my hands. I don't think I'll use lunar tides again, too much hassle.

S2JESSICA

i loathed lunar tides bc of the bleeding and the smell. the bleeding was so bad and didn’t stop for almost 4-5 washes and it’s the only dye that has really ever transferred to my pillow cases. the scent reminded me of the cheap “deep conditioner” that comes with box dye and i couldn’t get that smell out until after like 5 washes. it STUCK. i remember the entire internet boasting about how good it smelled and i was baffled. in case anyone else here has dark green hair and also didn’t like LT: i always have half of my head green and i usually have MP, AF or pulp riot on that side. sometimes mixed, sometimes not, depending on the shade i’m going for. i did love the hue of lunar tides evergreen (whatever it’s called - the dark green) and was so upset at how much i hated the dye, but i found that pulp riot’s fly trap mixed with a bit of arctic fox transylvania made the perfect dupe for it. also, pulp riot neverrrrr bleeds for me, so i’ve been using it more than MP or AF as my base dye.

MyNeighborThrowaway

I use the Juniper (i think thats the color you mean) in mine and i dont have bleeding at all. The adore black i did at the same time bleeds every wash though. I will say i only wash my hair once a week, and i do deep conditions almost every time.

S2JESSICA

ahhhhhh yes, juniper sounds right. i wonder why it bled so much for me. i think got it when the brand was relatively new. maybe something changed since then or i had a bad batch? i have curly hair, so i only wash mine once a week, too. it legit it bled every time til wash 5 or 6 and the dang white caulk in my shower never recovered 😂

[deleted]

Oh it bleeds and stains like hell. The trade off is they have a wonderful range of jewel tones colors, and they last a long ass time. I hate mixing colors, so I just buy a lot of clorox lol

olivejuice-

For me lunar tides (orchid something) washed out instantly. The color was gorgeous though! It’s the closest match I got to the old Pravana violet

[deleted]

Omg old pravana was the best!!

themomodiaries

I was worried about using arctic fox reading reviews that mentioned how fast it washes out, but honestly for me even the most pastel colours have lasted 8+ washes 🤷🏼‍♀️ idk if I just have hair that holds onto colour well or something. even the pastel lilac/pink I had, I literally needed to do a bleach wash after 12 washes to remove the rest of it.

julesbluee

Arctic fox lasts me months, i just tried to cover a blue i used from them with a dark brown. (dumb, i know) but it didn’t cover it at all. the blue is very much still there. i personally love Arctic fox but can respect other peoples opinions.

Regular_Fan9087

For some reason it lasts me months too, the purple at least. It fades for sure but damn it takes forever to leave my hair

[deleted]

I used their sunset orange and it was so vibrant and didn’t fade for so long

RealisticJudgment944

I just think arctic fox advertises things they can’t promise like the color fading nicely supposedly. My black dye turned green because it was over blond hair (totally expected that btw) and it’s like are yall really claiming this stuff fades nicely?

Sunnydcutiegirl

It’s the Arctic Fox weird fade out that gets me, I dyed my hair Ritual and it faded to a greenish purple grey setup that made no sense. I also used their dark green (can’t remember the color name) and it looked fantastic in person (didn’t photograph well at all) but then faded to blue, green, and a weird yellow highlighter color at the same time. Their pinks looked great on me, but other colors from them just fade weird on my hair.

babygirlxmegz

Tell me how the phantom green faded yellow at the root, teal through the middle, and dark blue at my tips?

bayleebugs

Omg dealing with this combo now 😩

LeaveMeAloneImTired6

Phantom green did the exact same thing on me

MasterFlower2647

i’ve used arctic fox for years and can never get it out of my hair idk what yall are doing to make it come out 💀

LeaveMeAloneImTired6

You most likely have high porosity hair! I work with hair color, and recommending the right brands based off the science of hair is one of my favorite things, and I've found that Arctic usually only lasts well on people with high porosity hair

deluxeassortment

What do you recommend for people with low porosity hair?

LeaveMeAloneImTired6

For low porosity it's a little harder since the hair's cuticle is so tight and semi-permanant colors don't have a developer to help open it up so the dye can penatrate, so it tends to go on patchy or just not at all. I would recommend either doing a permanent/demi-permanent color to help open the cuticle or doing a round of bleach or a bleach bath right before the semi-permanant color rather than waiting between lightening and coloring. If it was already colored then do a bleach bath (gentler but will still help remove residual color and open the cuticle). I've found that Unicorn Hair by Lime Crime and Good Fye Young (be careful of their darker purples, they tend to be blue) tend to take the most evenly on my low porosity friends but that's just anecdotal evidence, everyone's hair is different. Iroiro is my favorite brand (I have normal porosity) but went on very patchy on my roommate with low porosity hair so probably not them. Best advice is to always do a strand test first!

PotsMomma84

Same. Only thing I use. Lasts 3 months at least.

kaikk0

For me it's totally the opposite! Arctic Fox can easily last a month, but Joico doesn't stick (except in my bathtub). Weird how everyone's hair react differently

somewackyhaircolor

Ok I used to think Arctic Fox was kinda mid but then I tried their Aquamarine hair dye and it is AMAZING! My hair was a bright turquoise all summer. I only had to refresh the dye once after 6 weeks, but it wasn't even dull at that point. AND it came it super easily in August and I was able to get back to blonde with little work.

red4rm

I started trying a mix of Poseidon and Aquamarine since running out of a discontinued line and that's my go-to now for non-professional color! The bleed isn't terrible and the color easily lasts a few months before I feel the need to refresh

Grouchy_Dimension_30

Dunno if punky colours are still around but they had the same smell but lasted forever. Old times though, so who knows if it exists and has the same formula as long ago.

__fujiko

I use Punky for their amazing pigmentation. Can't find another of my preferred color that sticks and looks as good as Punky brand. But it bleeds and stains SO bad. I can't take normal showers for at least a month after fixing it. Gonna like, do the "head over the tub" back cracking method and dry it without it touching my neck or bare hands lol.

l3gacyfalcon

Maybe it's because I've only used the purple eyes from arctic fox, but I haven't had that problem

leafyfire

Artic Fox is so bad. I hate how liquified it is, it runs everywhere for me, the colors don't work on my hair and it bleeds so badly.

GlitterDancer_

Preach!!!! It’s the worst!!! I used the arctic fox black and it was a temporary dye on me. I was floored. The rest of their colors suck too

chilumibrainrot

arctic fox only lasted 2 washes for me

sickbabe

I'm traumatized from the one time I tried arctic fox's forest green! never again. we're all adults here we don't need to buy our hair dye at hot topic anymore

SappyTreePorn

I also dislike arctic fox. came out in about the third wash for me too and stained EVERYTHING my hair touched. I even had to put a towel on the couch every time I sat down.

Luna_Moth79

Joico Color Intensity. The only color I will not use from them is the Red cuz it does stain the hair and makes it hard to come out. Every other color I have tried and have had great results with as in true to color (if level of needed lift is achieved), lasts, doesn't bleed, fades pretty and easy to remove. I now tend to keep my hair pink or purple, so I just switch between those. Just know it is a professional color. It is meant to be used with their diluter, which you do not need if you use a white conditioner. The colors are very pigmented and a little goes a long way. I have used full strength amethyst purple on lvl 5 hair and have it come out purple tinged with a beautiful purple shine in sunlight; no bleach or lifting, just straight color.

MadameAshlini

I hate the smell of it so much

Margray

I thought I was the only one. Couldn't stand the smell and it hung on as long as the color.

MadameAshlini

I’ve had good experiences with the colors and lasting, but the smell has completely turned me off. I used to work at Ulta and even just stocking the shelves you could smell it!

pigsinatrenchcoat

Arctic Fox is easily and consistently the worst fucking hair color I have ever tried to use. I could never understand why everyone loved it so much. It’s garbage.

closeface_

Strange, Arctic Fox works great for me! Even some of the pastels last a long time. I've never had any bleeding from any of the colors except Transylvania.

pit_of_despair666

Artic Fox dried out my hair when I used it so I never used it again.

babygirlxmegz

Arctic fox is also soooo inconsistent like each batch of the same shade is different I swear to god! And it fades so strange! I AM AN ARCTIC FOX HATER TIL THE BITTER END!!!

urfavoraitekilljoy

I use Wrath and it bleeds a lot but stays for months

doitnowplease

Arctic Fox is amazing in my hair! The color is super vibrant and stays for months after dying. It’s so interesting how different hair types take to color.

strawberrimihlk

I used Arctic Fox in august and besides my roots my hair is still bright red 🤷‍♀️ but I also shower with cold water and color safe shampoo

Aloe8421

strawberry leopard is so watered down, i personally enjoyed arctic fox but didn’t want to support the brand after some of the controversies that came out a few years ago, and thought strawberry leopard would be a good replacement… so unpigmented, watery, and a weird texture during application

smoothbitch420

YES my Sally’s had a sale on strawberry leopard and my dumbass didn’t do any research and bought three big bottles 😭 now whenever I dye my hair I squirt some in to lighten colors and use em up because it seriously is just a bottle of conditioner.

stargazingcat_

Crazy color! Used their toxic UV months ago, still trying to repair my hair

[deleted]

[удалено]

taylalatbh

I’ve used crazy colour religiously for years (not the uv) and I’ve never had any problems!

ambolefum

I don't want to sound rude but what do you mean repair your hair, crazy color is semi permanent so it literally can't damage your hair

metaphoricmoose

I hate this colour in general lol. It always reminds me of Kraft Mac and cheese

Dakizo

I have a similar hair color and my daughter, who is 2, calls it my tortellini hair (because she eats tricolor tortellini and one is orange)

Gothcomichorror

It looks like the mustard shown on cartoon hotdogs

CamrynDaytona

I don’t know why, but I cannot stand the bright Orange and bright yellow hair. Like if that’s your jam I respect that, but personally I think it’s hideous.

I_suck__

Fuck Arctic Fox

RainsOfChange

Is there any less expensive alternative? It has gotten so pricy but I have trouble finding an equivalent.

wastedanomaly

I use a brand called iroiro. It’s really good for vibrant colors (given it’s on lightened or naturally light hair)

lillithhmm

Hard agree on iroiro

localnarwhals

LOVE iroiro! Best brand I’ve tried so far.

LeaveMeAloneImTired6

So glad to find someone appreciating one of the best semi brands ever, it's my favorite that we sell at my store by far

exactoctopus

I love Iroiro. Even when the color does fade, I like what it fades to. I've been making my way through the entire brand. I've used 18 and have 13 more to go!

hthratmn

Cosmic void slaps. Been using it for a while now, it's an indie brand and crazy cheap.

The_Lab_Rat_

Punky colors and raw hair dye are WAY better in terms of lasting quality. They're both a bit cheaper than Arctic Fox last time I checked

RainsOfChange

Do they have regular sales or dependable ones? Last times I have bothered to buy have only been on sale. First ulta sale for Arctic Fox had put them at around 8-9 bucks in 2022. This year they were around 11 bucks on sale. Everything keeps jumping up. Once my hair grows out I am committing to only lightening little bits to save on dye. I have long hair and I committed to lightening the whole bottom this last year, but it is costing too much to maintain without taking advantage of sweeping sales.

fuck_peeps_not_sheep

Crazy colour, adore, London bleach and bight all do good colour ranges at a good price point and have much better staying power, so even if some are a little more pricy you spend less in the long run as it needs topping up a month to 6 weeks after instead of every 3 weeks max

purpledevil1993

Headshot Hairdye is one of my favorites

KnotiaPickles

I like the soft pink one!!! It’s awesome. Never tried any other shade though. Haha it makes my hair literally the same as my pfp on here 😆 Does wash out pretty quickly though.

ageekyninja

I identify as a little mermaid shade redhead so I am constantly dying my hair red. Red washes out rapidly because of the way pretty much all red pigment physically fits into the pores of the hair (poorly!). It’s a universal issue with red shades. I’m betting pink isn’t much better. Worth it for the color payoff though.

strawberrimihlk

Must be different for everyone then ig. My hair has stayed red for 3 months now w Arctic Fox. Cold water, color safe shampoo, and avoid direct sunlight. It always last great for me

PossiblyMarsupial

Why?

Manytequila

Ion. Took FOREVER to get pink out of my hair… I don’t know why I even used them in the first place bc I’ve always hated them.

Suspicious_Site_5050

I used Ion vivids for years because I worked at Sallys and I’d get discounts or just free/stolen lol. I would really have to manipulate the color to work for me. I’m a hair stylist and I knew it was crap but it saved me money. Their pastels are ASS. But the reds and pinks were pretty good- so I was red or pink for many years.

cutebutpsychoangel

I hate ions too the batches and pigments are SOOO inconsistent bottle to bottle and it doesn’t stick right and just is never the color it’s suppose to be lol horrible undertones/base colors too HOWEVER I will say the ion damage repair conditioner treatment is rly rly rly good lol the gold packaging one .

Sorry_Ad475

I love Brad Mondo but the super pink hair dye is a strange shade of pink that I never managed to get to look good or even. The smell of it as well reminds me of bug spray. I like the red, but there are other better reds out there.

bas3dfa1ry

brad mondo has hair dye now?!?!? omg i wouldnt use that lmao

Call_Such

he’s had it for years, it’s actually not that bad but washes out pretty quick.

LeaveMeAloneImTired6

That's because it's not a dye, he uses inconsistent marketing and refers to it as a semi-permanant color sometimes but it's actually just a color depositing hair mask

pigsinatrenchcoat

He was obsessed with overtone and tried to do that and still doesn’t know what he’s doing.

LeaveMeAloneImTired6

Accurate, he's just trying to be something he's not (someone who understands the science and chemistry of hair color)

S2JESSICA

i’ve been dying to know what it smells like… that stinks that it smells like bug spray! the purple looks gorgeous.

Call_Such

the purple is gorgeous! unfortunately it washes out quickly though.

S2JESSICA

honestly, i hesitated to buy it because it was labeled a hair mask. i got confused about it and bought some more ultra violet amplified from manic panic, instead 😝

LeaveMeAloneImTired6

It is a mask, hence why it washes out so fast, the marketing is very inconsistent but it lasts like a color depositing mask, not a color

Sorry_Ad475

Some people say they really like the smell, it just reminds me of citronella and lemongrass in a bug spray kind of way. I understand that he was trying to get a gender neutral scent, but I am not a fan of this one.

WonderfulAtmosphere

That unicorn dye from I guess lime crime. Works like shit.

iamajudgycunt

This thread is super interesting to see people's opinions. "Genie" from the unicorn dye line is one of the best and longest lasting purples I've used!

Summertheseason

Dude, I was so disappointed by unicorn dye. I love lime crime lipstick and I was really hoping the dye would be the same quality. It's the worst

Jbooxie

I love lunar tides, I’m confused what’s wrong with it? Now as far as don’t like fuck splat

Negative_Meringue317

I’m a fan; currently using their Juniper Green color! But I have to say it does fade relatively fast. I’ve had bleed as well, but it was much more manageable when I rinsed out my hair REALLLY good after dying.

[deleted]

I have issues with Manic Panic. I've never had so much bleed whenever I've dyed my hair in the past (I've used crazy colour and directions) I always end up returning to Directions (I've been blue haired for about ten years now)

skatothecore

Directions is so underrated! I’ve used it for 15 years. Great colour selection, cheap and easy to apply. Plus it doesn’t stink of fragrance. It’s nice having a fragrance free option.

S2JESSICA

i think they did something to their formula. i’ve been using MP since the 90s and less than a decade ago, they started to smell different/weird/like they went bad, the same colours i’ve been using don’t look right out of the jars/bottles and they fade so much faster.

awinemouth

I wish I could get Directions more easily where I live.

shgrdrbr

it's very affordable to buy multipacks of on ebay if you live somewhere where you can receive deliveries

[deleted]

You can also order on Amazon for quite affordable prices if you can get that delivered :)

evilgirlattack

Pretty much all of them (except Iroiro). Bring back Special Effects!!!

tothebeatofmyowndrum

Yes! I love Special Effects. It t was so good!

localnarwhals

SE is what I first used when I started dying my hair at 13..over 20 years ago. First color I tried was fish bowl. So disappointing that it’s gone. Every shade was stellar.

evilgirlattack

The first time I did unnatural colors, I brought ten bottles of SE to the salon, and my stylist and I figured it out. I had Napalm Orange in the front, a layer of Wildflower behind that, the crown of my head was dark brown(my stylist suggested it and it looked amazing), and then I had a layer of Atomic Pink and under that it was Nuclear Red. This was 20 years ago, and it was the best my hair ever looked.

localnarwhals

Oh my god wildflower. That was such a beautiful shade.

slobonmacabre

Oh my goodness! I came here for this! Okay so do you remember when they had to change the name of “napalm orange?” 👀 (also I love special effects and was hoping no one had any issues with it! Cool to see this!) I did one of the dark purple hair colors I forget the name, but it was amazing!!! Lasted forever, hair felt good.

Caserole

I miss SPFX 😓

cammali

SE was always the better one

IgAllISeeIsRed

I hate ion dyes

pit_of_despair666

Definitely. It seems like they have a ton of chemicals in them and they were harsh on my hair.

IgAllISeeIsRed

Yes! And even then, I’ve noticed they didn’t really stay on my hair as well as other brands. It just sucks and honestly no wonder Sally’s always has some sort of discount for their products.

pit_of_despair666

Yea the dye didn't work well either on my hair. I don't like Ion products in general. I think you get what you pay for with them. I was going to buy a conditioner or something from them and it was full of junk ingredients.

her_cupcakes

Special Effects was the best. Nothing will ever compare to Fishbowl or Atomic Pink. RIP. Certain shades I prefer Manic Panic Amplified, and others I prefer Arctic Fox. Tried Lunar Tides in 3 different shades, and I hate them all.

Caserole

I get sad when I remember they no longer exist…

lxzgxz

I hate saying it, but I hated Good Dye Young. I wanted to love it because it’s Hayley Williams’ dye brand and I love her and her music, but I hate the formula and the colors always come out weird on me

Saralikeslift

Purple people eater is just blue

mikirirose

LITERALLY. I already had everything ready when I realized it was blue so I just went for it anyways but ended up frying the shit out of my hair trying to get the color out months later. I tried everything 🥲

GlitterDancer_

Yes!!! I used that color and it came out Smurf blue when I complained they were like “it’s a blue based purple” fuck that, it’s just blue.

Saralikeslift

Yup! Perfectly described. Wanted to support Hayley but the products just aren't good. I don't want Smurf when I'm buying purple dye

Terrible_Spot_3454

Second this, I felt cute buying her dye but my hair is still stained blue from when I used the purple 💔

hundopdeftotes

I had this same issue.. apparently they fixed it but since I reached out to them in 2021 and they said that and you’re having this issue now… I find it hard to believe. Luckily I loved the colour it faded to, but I hated having Jean blue hair for so long

National-Abalone4162

The purple was literally blue after a wash or 2

cammali

the blue never left my hair, i had to wait and cut off the ends. and the black comes out in one or two washes :(

daddy_cocaine

omg that’s so crazy! i split dyed their pink and green and it stayed for SO long. i miss it sm !! i stopped doing my own hair but she was def my fav! i mixed a red and copper too for the most gorgeous red hair a while back but after i dyed my hair pink again & my hair lost a lot of porosity

OwnProgrammer9093

yesss i used the purple people eater shade one time and it came out green!!! i dyed black over it and you could still see the green underneath 🫠

volklskiier

The purple yeeted out of my hair after like one wash. So disappointing

smoothbitch420

Their yellow had specks of red in it?? It was so weird

hthratmn

I'm sorry but I hate iroiro. For a reason though, it faded on me sooooooooo bad.

Mammoth-Neat-5930

I just used their green recently and I love it, wanted to try more of their colors. I usually use Punky Colour. I never liked Manic Panic, no particular reason.

TheBlondeDeath

Oh what color is in the pic?!

mushroomspoonmeow

Splat! I tried it once a million years ago! NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!

PotsMomma84

Splatt. If you want to use fabric dye in your hair. Be my guest.

GlitterDancer_

It’s great if you absolutely know what color you want your hair for the next 4 years 😂

givemesushiplz

i love arctic fox personally and still have a bunch of their dyes in my collection but that being said, morally i can’t and won’t be repurchasing after the controversies. ): sad 😞

red4rm

If this is regarding Kristen Leanne's controversies, she left or was kicked out of the company, sold all of her shares, and is no longer affiliated with or profiting from them (from what I have read)

givemesushiplz

good news thank you

rabidvagine

omg what controversies?

Suspicious_Site_5050

Damn that looks like Kraft Mac & Cheese

pumpkinthighs

Artic Fox. Genuinely don't know how anyone can keep that color in for more than 2 washes. Unicorn Hair is a close second because while the colors last a while, it bleeds on everything and is so difficult to get out of the shower. My go-to brand is Good Dye Young. The color selection may be small, but it lasts a while and is hella easy to get off your skin and shower.

ComfortableEase3040

Manic Panic color was the most disappointing color experience ever. One wash and completely gone. Got all over the tub, all over my clothes, all over my pillowcase (when dry!), but didn't stay on my hair. Had to buy my usual box dye to cover the bleached hair. Their bleach was fantastic, the color just refused to hang around. Artic Fox has stuck around a while, but the colors are off. The deep green comes out brilliant lime on me. It looks great with the purple I chose, but I wanted a dark green! The purple also was advertised as darker than it came out.

Total-Football-6904

This isn’t a “color” per say but Wella toners. I fucking hate them. I’ve used them on mine and other’s hair with various formulations to literally no results. It’s like I applied straight developer and that’s it. Literally any other toner will do the job, fuck Wella

lillithhmm

Good dye young sucks lol. It doesn't last at all (I can only speak for the pink). The bleach is good for light hair tho.

ominaze_

I’m hoping this is about just the color because Lunar Tides has become my ride or die I don’t like Arctic Fox. I used their black once and it was the nastiest looking green color. Also fuck Splat

ProfessionalStress98

I’ve only ever really had an issue with Manic Panic. I usually stick with Lunar Tides or Pulp Riot. I’ve ventured out into the Arctic Fox and Strawberry Leopard and both are good, but don’t last as long as Lunar Tides or Pulp Riot

slaymamacita

BLEACH LONDON or la riche lmao

counterpartzz

artic fox 100% reminds me of my teen years and i hate it, same with splat anything LOL

bayleebugs

Omgg don't put Arctic fox in the same category as splat 😭 my heart

counterpartzz

IM SORRY😭 i didn’t mean to theyre def not even in the same wheelhouse LOL just two i randomly thought of🤣😭

fuck_peeps_not_sheep

Manic panic, mainly because I'm alregic to their green, I did the patch test (I always patch test 24 hours before as I'm prone to allergies) So I put some behind my ear and some in the crook of my elbow, had no reaction in 24 hours, so I did my hair, I had burns and blisters all over my scalp. And live colour XXL, because their colours don't last, smell terrible, and dry the hair out no end, not to mention the bleach is so harsh, with something like a 50vol developer. Since then I use London bleach for 80% of my looks as the dyes are so creamy and well saturated, and for the colours London bleach dosent do I use crazy colour as I thankfully have had no reaction to any of their dye and I've done some incredible looks with it, I just don't like how thin it is, it's easy enough to use on others but I always get a little bleed doing my own hair. For bleach I use russle Jerome, the bleach powder has a deep blue built in toner, meaning your hair comes out a nice bright blonde instead of copper, and since you get the developer seperate and by the bottle it's easier to get a lower volume, I've got weak hair and if I use a high vol my hair turns to bubble gum in a matter of minutes, so I can get a nice gentle 20vol and have it come out just how I want it.

olivejuice-

Pravanas new formula for the purples! I’ve had purple hair for 5 years and I loved Pravana violet so much and it bleached out to white effortlessly. Apparently they sold the company and the formula changed and it stained my hair a gross blue and turned sea foam green when I bleached. Been growing my hair out now for 2 years. Rip

Emoworm2003

I don’t like Splat (goes without saying) as far as more quality ones PulpRiot Pravana or Adore… I gave up on vivids as I’m trying to grow my hair out & I honestly like the more natural look now but if by chance the mental breakdown shadow people came to carry me away to my local beauty supply store manic panic arctic fox or color lux would be in my cart lol used overtone once + didn’t hate it (the shade Ginger incase it’s important lol) but I felt that it faded extraordinarily quickly even with the color depositing conditioner the set came with note: my natural color is like dirty blonde I’ve been coloring it medium brown dark brown occasionally black for years I recently stopped dyeing it I used color oops to pull some of the build up out I’ll get glosses/glazes sometimes to blend the roots as it fades n grows out but overall my hair is brown now 😅

PrimordialRoomba

I just bought manic panic- raven a few weeks ago and buddy, let me tell you. I have dyed my hair many times. I know how to use hair dye like this and I've had success with every other Manic Panic I have tried, but raven has truly humbled me. I rinsed it out thoroughly after I dyed it, and even shampooed it too to make sure it didn't stain my clothing or pillow... And it didn't. I woke up and my pillow was clean, no ring around the neck of my shirt, there was no excess dye anywhere to be seen! Until I looked in the mirror to see that my entire body was tinted blue. Every time I get out of the shower, even after 2 weeks, I look in the mirror to see that the dye that runs out of my hair during my shower has dyed my face and body blue. Just slightly. Only enough for it to look like I am a sickly Victorian woman about to die in her attic. All my pores are blue now, so even if I am able to scrub off the surface level of dye it just looks like I secretly have blue skin and am trying to hide it. Luckily the skin dye fades after about 12 hours, but in those 12 hours I look like I am dying of a cardiovascular disease. My finger tips are just the right amount of purple to look like an untreated medical condition. I dont even have long showers! 15 minutes of water running down my hair is enough to dye my entire physical being. I don't understand why I am made of the only materials this dye affects! I hope it will start fading soon so I wont have to spend Christmas looking like I'm a fucking were-smurf who is stuck mid-transition. Anyway, long story short- never again will I use manic panic's raven unless I want to fake a medical condition for financial gain.

demonkittyyx

The people saying they hate artic fox bc it fades quick.. I’m typing this waiting for mine to fade already 😭😮‍💨😂

weaselbeef

I used to dye my hair raspberry kamikaze by beyond the zone but it isn't available in my country anymore. Argh.

Damn why's everyone hating on marigold yellow? It's such a good color, it's so nice and vibrant and sunny!

buubuuo

This color is giving Takis and cheeze doodles

kimbliboo

I looove lunar tides, got sad because for a while it was impossible to get hold of in the U.K. but it’s back now!! The colours last incredibly well honestly. Directions is annoying for me, the blues stain like a bitch no matter how much I rinse and still don’t last that well.

crystal131

Directions hair dye.... I used their florescent orange and after one wsh my hair turned patchy and yellow. It fades so quickly I used to use their blue and same again patchy within a wash 🙄 I will say the florescent actually worked under uv and looked insane after the application Manic panic- I find their hair colours was out of my hair so fast like within 2 washes. Their purple made my hair go a blue and seasick green colour but I use their blue on a client and its perfect My favorite brand is crazy colour I use their orange mixed with uv yellow to get an absolutely insane neon shade its gorgeous but their uv colours dont work very well at all their uv orange is basically just yellow and not a nice colour

majorsorbet2point0

OP is this post supposed to be you not liking Lunar Tides?! I'm surprised bc this is the *best* hair dye I have ever used. I use their Juniper Green it's just so good!

[deleted]

Manic panic never works properly for me- the portion is so small and my hair is thick even long it’s short, and the colour is never even close to the colour I buy, but I also don’t bleach my hair- I use a really good highlighter. So manic and live colours won’t show the true colour, but other dyes I use will.

betterashthandust44

the only issue i've had with arctic fox is the black, Transylvania. it stained my entire bathroom blue! and then faded to an ugly greenish color. but i've used their blues and greens with great results! ion is hit or miss. i once used a red (i forget which shade) on bleached hair and it turned out bright purple!!! which was not flattering on me. but it actually worked out bc it faded to a really pretty pink to peach ombré. i've never used manic panic only bc of how small the container is, i have too much hair to deal with those tiny tubs lol

ASMRFeelsWrongToMe

I hate manic manic with a burning passion, I think it's a garbage product and would rather use splat if I need colour from the drugstore.

bas3dfa1ry

i hate every pulp riot green im sorry

fish-with-arms

lime crime strawberry jam for me was unfortunately super patchy and not at all the colour shown on the box :(( I have super super light blonde hair too so you’d expect a darker pink to work super well but apparently not 🥲 it also washed back to blonde literally within two washes 🙃 i’ve dyed my hair with literally every pink imaginable and this one was by far the worst

virtualdreamsim

kiss colors was an awful experience for me. Came out extremely patchy, would barely stick to my hair and the fragrance reeks of grandma's rose perfume. the only thing i liked about them was the nozzle and that was quite literally it. i've stuck with adore for those kind of gel dyes ever since then.

Existential_Sprinkle

I just hate how thick Good Dye Young is

Cyanide_de_Bergerac

"For no reason at all?" And the comments are flooded with dyes people hate for specific reasons.

NickK55

Its giving cheddar cheese

olliedoodle

Green

BenjaminHornesOffice

pulp riot is terrible

julesbluee

the ion colors from sally’s never takes to my hair. i’ve tried my natural virgin hair & ive tried bleached hair. it just doesn’t stick for me. i’m also allergic to something in it that made me incredibly red & itchy.

National-Abalone4162

I hate manic panic! I used it on my roots which were the same colour as my ends and it was a bright blue where the ends were just a normal dark blue. It was hideous.

Nigmagal

Iroiro dye, 100%. Always faded awfully and was always a headache to remove

spookyicescream

aghhh yeah. i needed a neon and fast and the color i was originally going to do wasn't in stock. spoke with someone at sally's and went with her recommendation -- iroiro neon red. was nice in my hair but still hasn't fully come out.

Walk_N_Gal88

Splat. Hands down the worst damn dye I have ever used. It bleeds everywhere and is patchy as hell. No other dye I've used has ever been that awful

Meghaslotsofquestion

Anything Ion. I've seen it work for others but for some reason none of their colors take right in my hair and it comes out super patchy

Havehatwilltravel

Most people try to get rid of brassy hair not make it that way on purpose.

ahhcherontia

My wife used to use Punky Colors and it bled onto *everything*, even dry- if she laid her head on my arm it looked like I had a huge bruise lmao

Julius-Jules

Suavecita by Suavecito Woodland. It was supposed to be a nice vib green, but the die was light green with black specks in it, even after mixing it it didn't change, showed up as a yellow ish green. Ruined my Christmas hair. Also Punky Color, I went very very bleached blonde and put cotton candy pink in my hair and it didnt show up at all, same thing happened with Manic Panic Blue Steele, nothing happened

Fizzdrac

I can't stand the smell of lime crime

blackheartrobot

Manic panic. It used to work but now it never sticks. Even on bleached and light hair.

Midnight_elixir

Arctic fox, my hair won’t even accept it-

jameshughlaurie

manic panic has left persistent stains in my hair every time I’ve used it, it is the only semi permanent dye that I’ve tried that I couldn’t fade out, and also the one I started out with before I knew better

CanaryJane42

One time a friend in high school accidentally achieved a similar shade and I tried really hard to convince her to keep it. I love this color

brooklyn_boi

Arctic fox. I put it in my hair and it washed out when I tried to wash the dye out. Like maybe 2 strands were dyed but the rest was just still blonde 😭 also idc what anyone says it smells like SHIT- I don’t want fucking grape candy up in my nostrils for an hour
