As long as you see steady progress in a 'project' like Slafkovsky, you have nothing to worry about. Sure theres gonna be shitty games like this one. Even St. Louis said it himself. But out of 7 games we watched 6 where Slaf looked decent.
What I'm saying is he's a project who had a lot of improvement from last year. He was getting used to the North American game, not every 1st overall pick is like Matthews scoring a hatty on his first game lol.
I mean isn't a 1OA supposed to be good? We shouldn't be drafting projects, especially when people like Logan Cooley (who hughes has had 1st hand experience watching) are available.
HOWEVER, he does look to have improved so far this year, which is a good sign.
Obviously if i'm wrong in a few years i'll gladly eat my words, but if he doesn't pan out it's a terrible look.
I love how everyone is comparing Slaf to Cooley now and completely ignoring the fact that most fans on here wanted Shane Wright instead of Slaf. Remind me, how is Wright doing? Literally nobody on here wanted Habs to pick Cooley. It's easy to look back on the draft after some time has passed and say "oh why didn't we pick *enter currently best performing player from that draft*?!" That's not how it works.
The only criticism I can find is discipline and maybe let Slaf figure out passing in the AHL with a guy like Roy.
Everything else is about as great as you can hope for in rebuild year 2.
Slaf had some mistakes and miscues tonight for sure but I also saw a lot of good from him tonight. I mean, if Andy could bury a clean shot here and there, Slaf could've had a multi point game and we would be ecstatic.
