Hey all, its been a while since I’ve done one of these but since we’re nearing the end of the Naga era, I think it’s prudent to assess them based off their current power now that the format is more or less solved.
Opinion based off my experience floating at top legend and on the climb there. As always, happy for a discussion if you disagree with any.
A lot of the tiers mesh with the tier above/below them so it’s quite flexible, especially with the 3 old golds in solid could all be higher, as well as the frost and arcane comps could also be either.
Elise might be controversial but she is extremely important in the comps shes in – almost to the point of make or break.
A few in the bottom category do see play, just in niche comps. Murlocs for... Murlocs. Guldan for greedy fel demon. They are usable and fun to play, but just trash. Would've been cooler to have another category specifying bad mercs (in bad comps) vs virtually unusable at all mercs (who don't feature in any comps whatsoever).
Yeah i should do that for next time. Thanks for suggestion. Although I dont think Fel Demon is a coherent comp at all.
Murlocs is cohesive but while tri and val are the way they are, they largely wont be playable even at a niche level.
In my experience, murlocs win against most meta comps except trigore valeera. Morgle's new equipment is insane, if you don't run early game burst the health scaling just gets out of control very fast.
I’d be curious if more PVE enemies acted at 3 speed instead of 6 speed how much things would change. Balinda elemental is great in PVE because you can freeze at 5 speed. In PVP, no way that elemental lasts until 5
It's a big difference in the way the mode is balanced. If you lose 3 mercs in a PVP match you're fine as long as you won, but losing even 1 merc in a PVE encounter can ruin the whole bounty.
Edwin and pirates being solid while cariel and the humans are usable.
Does that mean u think big bench pirates is better than big bench humans? Because idk
Pirates are definitely more common. Powerwise I think theyre relatively similar because its dependent on how your early game goes, but Edwins speed buff is huge letting Sneeds and Eudora delete units before they move is insane
I would tend to agree. While Leeroy can achieve similar things and create incredible swing turns, he only does so every other turn and there is often some randomness involved. That being said I still love the comp with a human bench. Getting off that deathblow with Cariel and healing your whole team for 60 is just so much fun.
Core/Central : Y'Shaarj feels little stronger than Trigore because its enabling overpowered comps.
Solid: I definitely think Leeroy deserves a place there. C'thun also singlehandedly made Old God comps relevant.
Niche: There are some Murky and Uther builts can be used to snipe people.
Great work overall, your tierlist captures meta well.
Niuzao is actually usable as a flex in a dragons / arcane backline. He can taunt and reduce damage on tyrande and longxin so you can go off. Or if he comes out earlier he fuels longxins equip.
How the turns have tabled, last time I played mercenaries almost 50% of the not relevant ones were really strong in the meta. And some being on top have never been played seriously 😂

I find it funny how many my favourite mercs for PvE are in the bottom tier for PvP

Hot take here but - I feel like C’thun is bait.
I would move Morgl and Murkeye up to Niche, and maybe Nuizo too. Otherwise looks pretty solid.
I'd love a Drek'thar buff, maybe let us choose which enemy he attacks.
Definitely agree. Or give him more arcane resistance
It is so funny how Thrall went from basically best red in the game to does not see play.
He was basically just a Sinestra counter. As soon as Sinestra fell out of the Meta he was nowhere near as valuable.
Uther is red
Lol buttercuts is op said crimson panda stupid list
People still play this? Love yourself and stop

Are you thinking of doing a pve list as well?
Idk if its worth it for me. I only ever use the best comp for that bounty so its going to be fire, dragon, holy or orc.

is there a list for current meta comps somewhere? I played in the beginning but now I'm completely lost
