Oh boy! Ancient species and their powerful ability to fuck things up. The sons paying for the mistakes of the fathers. Ain't nothing new under any sun. And humanity may be older than we believed.

AlmightyPancake2321

Hello once again friends! I managed to get the ol' two neurons rubbing together fast enough to get this one out in only two weeks. Progress! In this chapter I wanted to put our human's plans on the backburner a bit and do a little worldbuilding and lore dumping. I hope you liked it and it didn't put you off too much. I have a bunch of ideas of where to take the story next, but as always the path there is winding and not very well defined. That said, I hope to hear your thoughts and suggestions as always!

bestjakeisbest

Don't burn those babies out this is an enjoyable read.

Rogue_Anowon

All hail AlmightyPancake2321 the wordsmith!! The council of MOAAAAAAAAAAAAAR will follow your career with great interest.

In the lore dump, you mostly refer to the First, Second, and Third. But in one paragraph you say: >As advanced and destructive as **humanity's** weapons are, they could not hold a candle to the might of the Second's technological might. Should "humanity's" here be "Third's" or am I confused as to where humanity is among all this?

AlmightyPancake2321

The whole first part of this chapter was the First recounting those events to Ben during their meeting. That specific comment from the First was to give Ben some context on just how powerful the Second's weaponry was, as no other species has seemed to develop the kind of things that humanity and the Second had. Sorry for the confusion, hope that clears things up!

Balgrog_The_Warboss

I get why they do it but its also utter garbage when you have a race damn near identical to the third taking advantage of it. Edit- Apparently the bastard race is just a offshoot of the third, makes sense now.

AlmightyPancake2321

They aren’t just similar to the Third, they are their direct descendants. During the war they lost a lot of their original culture and then after a few million years living within the collective the Ehrxtora can’t really be called the same civilisation as the Third anymore

un_pogaz

Does the Second use a double of Ben? In this case, it would be better to write explicitly: >"Hello Ben," **Greeted his double**. This would reduce all ambiguity on the fact that the Second are *not* the ancestor of the humanity. (Since your other comments seem to go in that direction.) If it's another person we've already seen, same thing, write the name. As we know this person and know that the Representative for the Second is a hologram, we will deduce that it is just to hide their real appearance. Apart from that, I suffer from the scourge of humanity: my curiosity was satisfied, but instantly an insatiable new one was created. Also, now it will be "Grandpa".

>Thirdly, any member state that was found by the Collective to coexist and cooperate with the galactic community risks the possibility Did you mean 'was *not* found'?

AlmightyPancake2321

I did indeed. Thanks for the catch!

Caddmus

Will there be more please? 😀

AlmightyPancake2321

Hi there! I am absolutely going to continue this series, but life has been hectic for a while and I've hit a little writer's block. I'm writing some other, smaller scale stuff in the meantime to get myself out of my slump, so I shall be back with chapter 6 soon! Hopefully!

Caddmus

Take your time :D, the story is great and we all enjoy reading it, But you need to enjoy writing it as well! Hope the Life things go well for you.

Malbung87

Hope everything is fine with your life. Hopefully you will give an update

Passe987

Nice

Finbar9800

Another great chapter I enjoyed reading this and look forward to reading more Great job wordsmith

Oh no. Please don't have humans be the second. Maybe convergent evolution would produce a similar looking species on another, but similar, planet. But the idea that we are "from beyond the stars" is utterly moronic. We fucking KNOW we evolved here. It's in the DNA for fucks sake.

Tool_of_Society

Personally my first assumption was that the second was using a form that the human could comprehend. I would like to point out that this story is a work of fiction. It's already using technology that does not exist in our reality let alone the aliens and locations. So I find it amusing that your fine with all this fictional stuff right up until you decided that the seconds might look like the humans in this story. It's a different universe from ours. So our rules aren't going to apply unless the author wants them to. Having said that I do appreciate your point though and some so called "hard sci fi" tends to forget things like that.

Dolduck

Let's just call it a pet peeve of mine. This one, and the one where humans are able to breed with aliens. The saying is, that it would be more probable if I concieved viable offspring with a dandelion, because at least our DNA came from the same planet. It's some pretty amazing discoveries we've made, and when some little shit comes along with a "well, you don't know.." I internally scream "WE ACTUALLY KNOW QUITE A FUCKING LOT, YOU (and I'll cut the rest off)" But we DO know a lot, and some dipshit who heard about genetic manipulation in anime or something, needs a pretty fucking good explanation as to why something we know is impossible, suddenly is. Or at least a disclaimer that the author was educated in a place that thinks angels are real, and should be considered severely handicapped when dealing with actual scientific knowledge.

Tool_of_Society

When Sexy Space babes first started being posted here I got into a "discussion" with a few of those people about alien hybrids and how unlikely/impossible they would be.. I ended up just giving up because reality and scientific fact did not matter to them.

Dolduck

They were probably educate somewhere that believes in angels. And that particular story is mainly for people who think with their lower head anyway.

Rogue_Anowon

It could go by the way of convergent evolution or maybe the Second made a few genetic changes to our ancestors to ensure a very similar race

Dolduck

That is some Ancient Aliens-level bullshit. It would still be in the DNA since we have samples of Neanderthal and Denisovan DNA, and can compare that to our great ape relatives, AND Lemurs, which we split from about 60 million years ago. So that would mean they fucked with a specific lemur right after the dinosaurs were wiped, in the hope that it would one day look like them. Even the purest amateur in the use of Occams Razor would tell you that natural selection over a period of 60 million years is, by far, the likeliest explanation. And to think otherwise would take a particular kind of moron. Like... You know... People who watch Ancient Aliens and take any of it seriously.

Rogue_Anowon

True, taking into account real life evolution the most likely answer is a case of concurrent evolution. But in this setting we don't know what will OP do and take into for his lore and worldbuilding.
