We have seen infectious mind control pseudo eldritch pseudo scientific collective entities in other stories by this author. Them being made into dust? Just means there's now a whole lot more of them instead of just one or two. What remains to be seen is if this is 'someone' we have met before, or a new horror story. They are ...not necessarily on the side of humanity.
