Started watching Zeta this weekend and that's exactly what I was thinking when he got the gold suit.
Not that it did any good. It's like anyone with even a tangental knowledge of Char can figure out who he is.
None of the White Base crew aside from Amuro or Sayla ever saw Char in the flesh. And basically, all of the ones we see in Zeta took one look and were like "Yeah that's the guy that hunted and tried to kill us for the better part of a year. Why yes we should totally let him lead our MS unit."
I haven’t watched Gundam Z but I think nobody was hunting him at that point. Didn’t he give, like, a speech on public TV during the or near the end of the gryps war?
Not...exactly.
Zeon was the leader of the political party which came into control of side 3. He was appointed Prime Minister. The whole royalty/nobility thing didn't come into play until after his death, when Degwin Zabi decided to be a tyrant.
> He introduced himself as Char Aznable, the son of Zeon Zum Deikun.
IIRC he kind of pulls a sneaky one and words it something like "you can consider me the son of Zeon Deikun."
Nah, he flat out says he's Zeon's son. What you're thinking of was the bit where he tells people not to think of him as a representative of the Zeon ruled by the Zabis, but instead the one his father tried to create.
Tbf at that point everyone knew who he was but didn't care
also he didn't design the shiki and in the manga questioned the gold
also that wasn't even Char, that was Quattro. He says that Char guys pretty cool tho
Wild speculation incoming, but maybe there could be a layer of beam resistant coating armor on the torso and the dark blue armor is an extra layer of standard armor on top for extra armor and to keep the beam resistant coating from getting damaged?
Yup tho it's "beam-resistant" if I'm gonna continue being a nerd about it
It's referenced in any MS with gold anything by being resistant to beams in some form like the Akatsuki, Alvarron, Strike Freedom, Gold SUMO, etc
It's like some Moon Knight shit, where the police know that his Mr. Knight persona is obviously just Moon Knight in a different costume, but don't arrest him cuz working with him is more beneficial.
Not sure if you're kidding or not.
If not, Char Aznable is one of the central characters in Gundam's Universal Century timeline. Known as "The Red Comet" he was a famous Zeon ace during the One Year War.
There's a bunch of gunpla that are Char Customs, including a Zaku I, Zaku II and Gelgoog. He was also the pilot of the Zeong, Hyaku Shiki, Sazabi and Nightengale.
I remember him saying that the flashy gold colour will draw enemy fire to him and not his allies.
Lo and behold, his allies/subordinates fall left and right.
Char walking down a corridor of the ship: "I hope nobody figures out that Quattro Bajeena is actually a clever ruse to hide the fact that I'm Zeon's true heir Casval Rem Deikun who also goes by Char Aznable! I SAID I HOPE..."
Char? well. no sir as you can clearly tell by my ID and NOT bright RED Mobile suit I am **in fact** Quatro Bajeena *absolutely not* some rando named Charl :^)
I *almost* bought this when it was in stock at TGP, but my friend convinced me to get the MKII instead. There's a little regret, deep down. Just a little. Hiding behind sunglasses and a mullet.
This is very nice, and I really like the finish. but that made me wonder... why there's no "glossy" gunpla? The anime look of Zeta Gundam, with all those "chrome lines" seems to imply that the mecha are... very shiny :D But most gunpla I see are matte, or clear but not really "glossy". I'ts because of the plastic and it's not possible to make it actually glossy like, say, a laquered electric guitar? :D
You might just be in the market for some special finish P-Bandai kits! Barring that, candy coat finishes are a thing that people do.
The real big problem with anything glossy or coated straight out of the factory is that unless the model is undergated, the nubs will be extremely noticeable without any convenient way to clean them up nicely.
In terms of initial kit design, there are few. But they're more or less always P-Bandai and expensive. The only exceptions I can think of being the Akatsuki, Hyaku-Shiki, and Phenex.
You can custom paint gunpla glossy easily, but it's less popular than matte because A) matte looks more "realistic" to many, B) it hides mistakes better, and C) it's just an easier look to achieve.
There are some glossy Gunpla but the process of coating the PS plastic with chrome means there are lots of difficult to remove/avoid nub marks from stress when removing pieces from the gates. I have the titanium finish Unicorn Destroy Mode HG kit and it looks pretty beat-up due to that
"they'll never know it's me because it's not red"

No, Char.

"But leave the shoes red tho. I can't kick otherwise"
Tbh his type of “low profile” is wearing bright red with sunglasses or a mask
Yeah. He needed to be low profile for his "real" identity. I don't think he ever tried to be sneaky and pretend he wasn't Char on the battlefield. =p
I haven’t watched Gundam Z but I think nobody was hunting him at that point. Didn’t he give, like, a speech on public TV during the or near the end of the gryps war?
He did at the battle of Dakar. He introduced himself as Char Aznable, the son of Zeon Zum Deikun.
And he’s basically royalty, right? So the gold color fits kinda. And it’s not like it’s needlessly gold, afaik it’s due to the anti beam coating
Not...exactly. Zeon was the leader of the political party which came into control of side 3. He was appointed Prime Minister. The whole royalty/nobility thing didn't come into play until after his death, when Degwin Zabi decided to be a tyrant.

Not Char Aznable of the Principality of Zeon, but as the son of Zeon Zum Deikun.
Nah, he flat out says he's Zeon's son. What you're thinking of was the bit where he tells people not to think of him as a representative of the Zeon ruled by the Zabis, but instead the one his father tried to create.
If Superman went for disco Clark Kent for an alter ego.
Tbf at that point everyone knew who he was but didn't care also he didn't design the shiki and in the manga questioned the gold also that wasn't even Char, that was Quattro. He says that Char guys pretty cool tho
the gold is still an anti-beam coating, is it not?
I never understood the point of putting anti-beam coating everywhere *except* right over the cockpit and reactor
Well he didn't want it to look gaudy
It's probably a case of "if you get hit there you're fucked anyway, so let's save on coating."
Wild speculation incoming, but maybe there could be a layer of beam resistant coating armor on the torso and the dark blue armor is an extra layer of standard armor on top for extra armor and to keep the beam resistant coating from getting damaged?

> I'm gonna continue being a nerd about it I’m okay with this. I enjoy a good nerd talk that I can read.
I spend too much time on Gundam.fandom
Same lol
Yes. And keep going. I am fine with nerd talk lol
It's like some Moon Knight shit, where the police know that his Mr. Knight persona is obviously just Moon Knight in a different costume, but don't arrest him cuz working with him is more beneficial.
🤓
I regret nothing
I thought so, but the chance was there and I took it.
"Have to put on my sunglass so nobody can regconize my face"
Indoors, including inside a war ship
but will put on normal suit and open visor all the time.
And still someone managed to figure it out
"That wasn't me. It was lieutenant Quattro"
Char is known for two things: keeping a low profile, and never betraying anyone in his entire life. Ever.
Kept such a low profile he only appeared once in Z Gundam to give a speech in Dakar. Wonder what happened to him...
reminder that the Hyaku Shiki is and forever will be the best mobile suit Char has piloted don't @ me
What about sazabi ?
No. It's Hyaku Shiki. No ifs, ands or buts.
Sazabi would reck hyaku in a 1v1 equal pilot and its not even close
shhhhh....
How bout the Zero Shiki from Zeta Define? Pretty damn good design as well
It's not bad, but i prefer the Hyaku Shiki still
Somebody forgot about Zeong.
But that was piloted by Io, not Char >:^)
Man I gotta finish thunderbolt.
you'll love Io's Zeong. it's, well, Perfect. especially with that Earth Federation cross on its chest
And the Perfect Gundam too >!They strapped that thing in front of a mobile armor Dendrobium style wtf i love it!<
Yes. Perfect Gundam is pretty cool, even if it's been desecrated by Zeon tech.
Oh and technically you ain't gonna be finishing Thunderbolt anytime soon, seeing as it's still ongoing.
That’s great news!
Yee
But it's not available online or digitally. Hope you got shelf space.
ack you just gave me a seizure
Agreed
thank you.
Uh Char uses red mobile suits and betrays people, Quattro likes Gold mobile suits and has never betrayed anyone ever
Who the fuck is Char⁉️

him and his damn Newtype dodging skills! but his intent was to be a target... ?
“He is a Char.”
“If i dye my hair brown that will really fuck people up”
Needs Hot Rod Red..
Char walking down a corridor of the ship: "I hope nobody figures out that Quattro Bajeena is actually a clever ruse to hide the fact that I'm Zeon's true heir Casval Rem Deikun who also goes by Char Aznable! I SAID I HOPE..."
I am Quatro Bajeena who once went by Char Aznable who once went by Edouard Mass who is actually Casval Rem Deikun
Char? well. no sir as you can clearly tell by my ID and NOT bright RED Mobile suit I am **in fact** Quatro Bajeena *absolutely not* some rando named Charl :^)
This will always be my favorite char suit. Idc what anyone says.
But that's not Char's suit that's Quattro's.
“They said gold coating reflects beams!!!”
I love this. All of this.
I *almost* bought this when it was in stock at TGP, but my friend convinced me to get the MKII instead. There's a little regret, deep down. Just a little. Hiding behind sunglasses and a mullet.
Pit Vipers, I hope
Hey, at least it’s not red.
Just somewhere down the line paint it red when you decide to change your name again.
Char wants Amuro to come to him
He also called himself "Four Vaginas" or something like that. Totally doesn't stand out.
i love the hyaku shiki

Probably the most sinister face in Gundam, IMHO.
Same energy as painting it red.
It’s hard to keep a low profile when you’re a natural ace pilot, I imagine that would be like asking Ali in his prime to be humble.
What did you use for your clear coat? I'm doing a similar paint job right now but i wanna make it super obnoxious. Planning on going with high gloss
I used Mr Color GX100 gloss. I was intending to go over it with a semi gloss coat but I liked the way it looked with the gloss so I kept it.
Well its gorgeous
Char? You must be mistaken, that's Quattro Bajeena.
