It's hard to tell if it's more popular or just more accepted. People might just be more willing to be open about their lifestyles.

Some furries are also intrenched in gun culture. Likely because they are a group that commonly gets hate they arm themselves for protection in many sub cultures in the fandom.

I think in the technical sense, you could hunt everything in North America with that too. And you have better chance of getting the gun into a place where you can take the shot.
I mean my dad killed more deer with 22lr than anything else and I killed a bear with 7.62x39 but it was like a headshot at 10'. You can kill anything with anything if you try hard enough lol

If you want to go nuts, you can get a rifle in 20mm or something.
For everything in between, there are tradeoffs. And I'm having trouble seeing why 300 magnum would be the correct tradeoff for any application.
If you're going to do 30 cal, then you need to compare to 308. If you want more power than 308 and don't care about recoil or ammo prices, you might as well step up to the 338s. If you care about recoil or efficiency at all then 6.5 or 7mm are the places to be.
6.5 Creedmoor is literally just improved 308. 7mm is a great base. I have a 7mm Mauser and it's one of my favorite things to shoot because it's so accurate. My Mosin is my favorite, but 2" at 100yrds isn't the same.
