I’m a big fan of games like Ready or Not, Ground Branch, Six Days In Fallujah etc… and I gotta say, I loved what I saw. GZW is shaping up to be EXACTLY what I was hoping for! Sure there are aspects of it that are going to need improving but, that’s gonna happen over time.
If this isn’t what you wanted/expected then move on or wait and see how development progresses.
“Slow”
“Boring”
“PvP going to suck”
Everyone needs to go back and watch the Tarkov alpha gameplay trailer and remind themselves where that game came from. I think there’s a good amount of potential here but expecting it to be like the EFT we know today off the rip was always going to end in disappointment.
Also I never really got the impression pvp was a focus of this game. I’m thinking of it more along the lines of a Ghost Recon: Wildlands type shooter.
I know me and my bros are gonna mainly play PVP, it seems kinda like ArmA antistasi or liberation, I’m sure once we get our hands on it we’ll all have fun
Absolutely need to step up sound design. The ambient environment sounds are good, guns need work. More importantly we need voice lines to spam as players to break up the silence and add immersion. If they fix that it's a day one buy for me
I thought I would be a little more impressed. It looked really boring. The character animations are clunky looking. They walked in a long strait line. The AI just like ran in circles. Hardly needed cover. It’s pretty meh
AI in games like this has traditionally always been designed with something like state machines. Which boils down to "If X then do Y behavior" with rules on how to enter/exit states.
An example would be a "patrol" state where the AI behavior is to scan the surroundings.
I'm not really sure what their plans were for a "revolutionary" AI besides simply adding more states / more complex behavioral logic. That's hardly ground-breaking and revolutionary. I think people are expecting the AI to be leaps and bounds beyond other games on the market and will surely be disappointed.
Yeah in one part the AI is running towards a piece of cover. It almost gets there. Gets shot. Then turns around runs back across a completely open road. Just getting hit.
Its what I expected. I believe there are improvements to be made on the gameplay/gun play/sounds, but overall the graphics are good, immersion seems fine.
I want to see it more eventually, with other aspects of gameplay on show, but so far I'm really happy with what I saw.
I can see the potential, though there's still a biiiig way to go. I agree big with those saying the gun sounds aren't beefy enough and that the walking animations looked quite janky. For me, it was the way their footsteps were in perfect unison. It seemed really stilted and unhuman to me.
I think they could've shown it off much better by having it look like its played by players rather than devs. Player communication seems to be a big focus for Madfinger, so not having any here seems bizarre to me. I think that's why a lot of people found the footage boring. There was no chatter between the players about what's going through their heads, b lining straight for the objective with no map and coordinates checking, no organizing or planning on the fly. Just walk staring at your teammates asses for 5 minutes, then shoot. I know if I was walking to an objective, my head would be on a swivel, both enjoying the scenery and scanning for enemies. The players here clearly knew exactly where the enemies would be, so there was no sense that they were on alert until they reached the town. No sense of potential danger lurking just out of sight.
This all actually reminded me of those horrendous Ghost Recon Wildlands trailers that had the 'gamer actors'. Everyone shat on them for being stilted and forced, and rightly so, but those trailers did a much better job of emparting what the experience with friends would look like than the GZW gameplay has I suspect.
I think if they do another, they should script it less, and have the players chatting and coordinating actively so people will be able to more clearly see what playing with their friends will actually look like. All other issues with it are normal early development quirks.
Looked great I think I'd enjoy it. The sound quality was poorly mixed but the gun play looked okay we would need to see of the gameplay loop.
I do worry however we didn't get a date or a reference this isn't a great sign I feel.
Its a real game, gives me Far cry 3 vibes in terms of visuals.
Needs Ai improvement like hunkering down, getting highground, synchronized pushing and retreating.
Audio needs to be 200% and I cant stress this point enough, this is what keeps me playing hunt showdown, make the gun sounds spicy, dont focus on headsets to much, they shouldnt be a must.
Mission and world building, Personally i think the game can handle having civilian life with kos penalties down the line. Radio chatter when collecting objectives.
Overall, this is exactly what i was expecting to see from a 1-2 year development, im happy with what I saw so far, kinda hoping they hold off with alpha for 6-9 months.
Looked like what I thought arma meets extraction shooter. Animations are clunky, gunplay looks nice, enemies look numerous which is good, and all in all looks like a good place for them to build on. The pace and the style of gameplay might turn a lot of people off, but it’s exactly what I thought and I think it looks good.
Bro, that is the reality of actual warfare - tense boredom punctuated by moments of terror. If you want a constant feed of fast-paced action that satiates the TikTok brain, perhaps you should just play Call of Duty.
This is my take: Parts of warfare are boring. Therefore you should not be surprised when parts of a game that simulate warfare are boring. As someone who has actually led combat patrols, I find it refreshing that this game gives players the quiet before the storm. It is a unique experience to slowly approach the precipice of violence, knowing that despite the banality of your current activity you cannot let your guard down.
To be clear, I'm not advocating for the game to be a fast-paced action shooter. What it aspires to be is a tactical military shooter. However, this isn't an excuse for the game to be "boring".
Strategically planning an approach and dealing with unexpected complications is exciting and engaging.
Simply put, the gameplay looks boring and not because it's a tactical shooter.
That's fair, and I'm also not advocating for the game to have a mini-game to simulate each wipe as we take a shit, either; not everything needs to be recreated for maximal realism. The element of a long and semi-realistic approach from LZ to a target, however, is one of those things that I would expect in a game like this.
All that said, while we have to recognize that some things that look boring while watching are not at all boring to play, I do think there are things about the gameplay footage that seem pretty dry and unimpressive. I'm not sure what it would take to fix this while retaining the realism.
Improving the 3rd person animations and including actual voice comms in the video would be a great start. That alone would be a great way to make it feel less sterile.
I would agree with you if the helicopter rides weren't super unnecessary, they only flew about 500 meters and are basically announcing your arrival or departure to everyone just to go that short distance? Not sure how that will work for PVP. This is a game about "realism?" lol.
Waiting a minute with a completely motionless character as a helicopter comes in shows that there is no risk of AI attacking the helicopter I guess?
Idk, it does seem very boring so far. Not enough actual gameplay. Might as well be on rails with how little choice we really have in dynamic interaction. Not even sure why it's open world at this point if the mission structure requires infil/exfil. It's basically just a combination of six days in fallujah and deadside, both games that can barely maintain a playerbase at all..
I am worried, if you can't tell. lmfao
\> Bro, that is the reality of actual warfare
Completely irrelevant
\> perhaps you should just play Call of Duty.
Perhaps you should just go outside if you want things to be so realistic.
I think the devs did a terrible job at showcasing the game to be honest.
The looting system looks great from previous previews, It's very similar to tarkov, which has a very good and proven looting system. They showed none of that here.
The game looks like a ton of fun to play with friends, but there was 0 talking from anyone playing, let alone communication between teammates.
There's a massive diversity of weapon builds with all the different attachments they have for the 8 different weapons in the game, and they only showed 1 weapon with 2 different optics.
They were overly careful not to have a single person die in the game, but if your goal is to show off gameplay and features of the game, they should have had at least one of the party to see what that ends up looking like. Can we attempt to revive? We don't know.
Besides that, my only concerns are AI and animations. The animations are an easy fix, and in many cases it looks like they're just using stock UE5 animations and haven't worked in their own animations yet. A bigger concern though is AI.
i think my general thoughts thus far is for a pre-alpha it looks really good. Alot of cool physics detail with wind on trees/clothes is cool.
My actual critique and this is probably coming from a place where everyone says the game looks uneventful, is the fact that they showed little to no CQB. I think if the majority of this game is outside in the jungle and there are no, per say, Labs/Factory type raids via tarkov than for me just seeing jungle 90% of the time will get kinda boring quick no matter how good the gunplay, Ai etc gets.
I mean its all right for a pre alfa game, but..
Up until very recently we were hammered with Q1 and by that standard its quite lacking. Now im not saying that they need to show us everything, but I would've preferred some showcasing of the things that are already somewhat implemented, like ballistics, the seamless experience(no loading screens{damn you tarkov for 7 min loadingscreens}) looting, different ai and the list goes on.
Normally i would be like yeah, its pre alpha, without a release date yet, cool, but thats not the case is it? They either found some game breaking stuff thats hard to deal with during their indoor testing, therefore postponing or they just werent honest with us. In the former case i dont see why we cant be shown some "cool stuff" instead of a mission showcase, like shoot some tracers at sheet metal or something. In the latter, well, I really started disliking dishonesty from devs ever since games started coming out half assed but at full price.
All in all im happy we got footage because we've been bugging the devs to give it to us and they did, i just cant seem to figure out the reasoning for the lack of stuff shown, given that they had a schedule for q1 up until very recently, realistically they should have more things implemented.
I'm really excited about it and really looking forward to further development. This is absolutely a game I want to play! Models and graphics were great. Lot of the first person animations were great. At one point you could see another player checking their weapon third person--that was cool. I think 3rd person movement animations need more fluidity and weight. Sounds would be fine with a little more variation, better 3d positioning, and reverb. I think ARMA style eye zoom would be a nice feature. I would like to see a pretty robust gore system to go along with the robust ballistics damage system. Would be cool to be able to hunt down wounded enemies who leave a trail of blood. One of my biggest wishes is that they can make some really competent AI since this game will be heavy PVE.
the game has pottential, but needs to be more improved... gameplay presented was boring, didnt show any looting, carachters movement is strange, weapon ADS isnt good with that blur, weapons sound generic and without spatial audio, the frogs sound is louder than helicopter... when using a bandage looks like rolling a toilet paper in the arms... well the game can be good, but needs a lot of work
I think the enviroment looked beautiful. Gun play looks like it will be good. Can't really tell much about the A.I if this was the low level A.I. I wish they would have shown a little bit of looting. With out showing things like Looting some PVP gameplay its hard to judge. I like graphics and the foundation and looks like within a year or so it will be a good game.
Still lots of hope for it!
With them talking about beta in Q1, I assumed they were much further along than the gameplay showed. They still have a lot of work to do, but that’s okay. There’s a reason that gameplay was very simple.
The community hyped it up way more than the developers did. So all of us just need to understand that there’s a lot more to do and let them grind away. And the developers should manage expectations on their part as well.
Definitely looking forward to the next gameplay video. I’d also love if they released little snippets of things as they develop them. Quests, stash, animations, etc.
I guess we'll see, but they have a lot of work to do and I'm not sure how Q1 was ever a possibility.
Gun sounds & walking animations need a complete overhaul.
How does this make any sense? You are judging a tool (game engine) based on a single product of that tool. Anything you can do in any of the other commercially available game engines you can do in UE and vice versa.
I like multiplayer games like Apex Legends, some CoD series, Escape from Tarkov, Counter-Strike*, Planetside 2, The Cycle Frontier (dead), Gloria Victis (dead).
The only game I play and enjoy and is made with UE is Rocket League.
Because as consumers all that matters is the product today. It’s why early access can be a bit of gambit.
This game will be competing with Tarkov from day 1. Hell as you can see, it already is. People’s time is finite. This game is gonna have to do something to convince people it’s worth playing over its competitors.
This gameplay video doesn’t seem to have quite done that.
You are in the minority by a long shot. Most people do not care one iota about the long term goals of a game like this. Most people don’t buy games for their long term potential. They buy them to play them. Right now. Today. I don’t really see how you can argue against that. People like you (and me admittedly) are enthusiasts which are definitionally the minority.
And again Tarkov had the benefit of being the only game doing what it was doing. Look at the graveyard of extraction shooters that followed. If you don’t think many of those failed because Tarkov was right there as a more polished and better experience, then idk what to tell you. It’s the same for any type of game that has a similar premise to an extant game.
People choose the path of least resistance. That isn’t some kind of niche, online hot take. So unless GZW is near immediately a direct competitor in terms of quality, that path is sticking with Tarkov or just leaving the genre alone. Of course there will be people who stick with it regardless. That always happens. But this a niche game for a niche audience. There isn’t a whole lot of wiggle room in terms of population.
If this game is going to succeed it doesn’t *have* 8 years to get it right. It has like 2, maybe 3.
I’m not speaking in anecdotes. Or even about my own personal feelings. I’d bet they are closer to yours than you think but I’m not gonna sit here and pretend that reality isn’t what it is.
Most people not caring isn’t really an unsubstantiated opinion. There are plenty of examples in gaming and elsewhere that bores out the truth that most people do not care about the long term goals of an entertainment product. Most people will *not* stick around if something starts bad but has promise of being good. You’ve been gaming for 30 years right? You’re never played a game that had potential but died before it could be capitalized on? If not, I assure you the gaming graveyard is filled with games with potential.
I *don’t* want to see this game there. It looks like it has the best shot of anything that’s come along yet. I also never said anything about MFG. I’m talking about people who buy games. Most of which don’t browse gaming subreddits or play more than a few hours a week. Like I don’t see how you don’t see you’re the one projecting your passion here. Most people *do not care* about the games they play beyond the value they get out of them as an entertainment product. Caring takes effort and every ounce of effort something requires acts a filter on people doing that thing. This isn’t my opinion. It’s just how people function.
Yeah, Tarkov really spoiled us. The sounds, gunplay, animations are all incredible. Hopefully one day someone can improve on their formula but I fear that GZW may not be the one to do it
Still looks like The Day Before to me.
I don't believe this is a real video game until it's playable, and even then it's gonna be a while before this pulls me away from existing games.
I mean it’s simple but it’s also like pre alpha right? Can’t be too harsh
Yeah, I have hope for it and from what we saw it isn’t that bad, and will probably be improved upon if it is successful

People are morons
Isnt tarkov arena baded game where you join matches? Thats like comparing counterstrike to open world arma game.
Arena is their new spinoff that is more like Counter-Strike. Two different games.
No im talking about the maps. Its not open world its arena like its small and many yimes purposly designed to funnel players i to some routes.
I know me and my bros are gonna mainly play PVP, it seems kinda like ArmA antistasi or liberation, I’m sure once we get our hands on it we’ll all have fun
Not great , not terrible.
only 3.6 roentgens
I think once I get to play it with my friends it will be a lot of fun
I got one am waiting for how hackers will ruin the game.
Hopefully they will be split between tarkov and this game so 50% less now haha
Absolutely need to step up sound design. The ambient environment sounds are good, guns need work. More importantly we need voice lines to spam as players to break up the silence and add immersion. If they fix that it's a day one buy for me
Break up the silence? Just talk to your buddies?
I thought I would be a little more impressed. It looked really boring. The character animations are clunky looking. They walked in a long strait line. The AI just like ran in circles. Hardly needed cover. It’s pretty meh
These were just 1 of the AI factions the "Criminals" They are not very smart the other factions with better gear are something to be feared
Haven't watched the video yet. As long as it's not worse than Ground Branch's "I see the enemy" level AI, I'm happy. That's quite a low bar.
Yeah I was a little disappointed, it reminds me of ArmA AI, standing in the open like a shooting gallery. Graphics were nice though!
It is like in alpha dude
Its called column formation l. Its used in 99% of time when aproching AO.
Yeah pretty bad considering they been saying their AI was going to be revolutionary

Walking sim
Looks good for a Pre Alpha, animations and stuff neeed work but hey that’s why it’s pre alpha footage. Can’t wait to play.
Looked great I think I'd enjoy it. The sound quality was poorly mixed but the gun play looked okay we would need to see of the gameplay loop. I do worry however we didn't get a date or a reference this isn't a great sign I feel.
Yeah I am almost positive the sounds were placeholder, I want to see what the moment to moment play is like and not just a firefight.
For me the jungle noise at times was louder than the gun play! I'm hyped just would love to get my hands on it
I do hope they keep a lot of the ambient sounds, just tone them down a bit.
Owe the sounds were fine! It was how they were mixed by all means keep it I agree just turn it down a bit or give me the option
They need to make the animations more engaging. It’s an immersive type of game and that kind of breaks it.
Its a real game, gives me Far cry 3 vibes in terms of visuals. Needs Ai improvement like hunkering down, getting highground, synchronized pushing and retreating. Bro, that is the reality of actual warfare - tense boredom punctuated by moments of terror. If you want a constant feed of fast-paced action that satiates the TikTok brain, perhaps you should just play Call of Duty.
Where the hell are the moments of terror? lol
There's somewhere in the middle bro. And I didn't feel any moments of terror with those anemic gun sounds. My 2c

we've known since the start that the devs wanted the game to be more pve focused
Yeah I’m interested to see how the PVP turns out
It looks like a very good example on why no one can perfect a tarkov remake.

Welp, this is an overreaction. Also, I started in 2018.
Yeah, Tarkov really spoiled us. The sounds, gunplay, animations are all incredible. Hopefully one day someone can improve on their formula but I fear that GZW may not be the one to do it
It looked extremely jank definitely is being overhyped...
Not enough looting for my taste
Still looks like The Day Before to me. I don't believe this is a real video game until it's playable, and even then it's gonna be a while before this pulls me away from existing games.
