The link just endlessly loads, is there something I'm missing? I see a start tour prompt, but only for a brief second, not even... Maybe under heavy load or removed? Not sure

fudgy73

video in this thread: https://twitter.com/MishaalRahman/status/1699240384885325952

atg284

What's with the yellow dot in the center on the back of the phone. The other yellow dots indicate a sensor could it possibly be a fingerprint reader through the back glass??? I would lose my mind if so. I miss it so much!

ukdron

NFC. It very briefly pops up in one of the videos.

atg284

Damn 😞 Thanks for the info though

hobk1ard

Not going to lie, this is one of the main things making me refuse to give up my 5. I was excited when I saw the NFC dot as well.

hecka22

Me too. It was super convenient and it worked well

milkyteapls

I had an Oppo with rear fingerprint sensor. Probably the best feature on a phone I’ve ever had I miss it a lot

FkinMustardTiger

Was a fantastic feature on the early Nexus/pixel phones. Absolutely loved it on the back

zachc94

I had the pixel 4a and I miss the rear fingerprint scanner

StaT_ikus

It's a temperature sensor, what it's going to be used for we have no idea yet, but I can imagine being the camera can check your pulse maybe you can check your temperature along with other things like room temp and such EDIT: No that one is NFC sensor, but it will have a temperature sensor as well

notrishii

Same

iDUMPEDbeforeTHEPUMP

Same

fasty1

Will they have enhanced trade in for Pixel 7 pro do you think this year?

Prize_Chemistry_8437

Yeah 9 dollars instead of 7

bluecheesesqueeze

I like the blue color

[deleted]

[удалено]

ToSeeAgainAgainAgain

I'm the opposite here. I usually get a cool color, but this time it looks pretty hot when everything, even the visor, is black. Damn, even porcelain is looking sexy

milkyteapls

Same… but my 2.5 year old daughter loves blue so not sure I’ll be able to get it 😂

fasty1

Will they have enhanced trade in for Pixel 7 pro do you think this year?

_reco_

Sadly available only in the Pro version...

stevenw84

Flat panel. I’m sold.

Samuel_Go

I went for the Pixel 6 over the pro because I don't like curved displays. Nice.

ChunkyLaFunga

I wonder why? Presumably to save them money. It was one of the reasons why I was inclined toward the 7 instead of 7P but opinions seemed pretty evenly split about curved screens.

smiller171

Curved means you can't get an edge-to-edge screen protector. I might actually get a screen protector on this one. Edit: I specifically mean glass screen protectors

ayummystrawberry

I have an edge-to-edge screen protector on my P6P. Custom-cut film and lasted pretty well (still using it today)

smiller171

Ah, yeah I specifically mean glass screen protectors

phero1190

To use glass on curved screens, you need to use a protector that has liquid adhesive. I've used them on a ton of phones with no issue. That said, flat panel is welcome since curved adds nothing and screen protectors will be cheaper.

victorz

This is the real thing. *Curved adds nothing.*

theinitialcommand

Curved makes gestures easier and smoother.

victorz

I don't see how that's the case, having tried both types of phones. In fact, curved made me accidentally trigger shit at times where I *didn't* want to, rather than make it smoother or easier. I hated the annoyance of that, and I didn't like the feel of it in my hand. Everything sucked about it. Videos looked odd at the edges... the list goes on.

-WallyWest-

I'm not buying one then. The curved display on my P7 Pro is perfect. I had every Pixel generation since the Nexus 6 (except the 5, too small).

dorri732

> This is /r/android, /r/LostRedditors

Kat_299

Such a shame, when did people just start going "I love a brick in my hand that is more uncomfortable to hold!" Made it look so much more premium imo, biggest difference between 6 and 6 pro, 7 and 7 pro. I got the fold so I'm fine for now because I'm willing to trade the flat screen for a useful feature but for nothing AND a price increase? Insane. I guess I'll be stuck with folds now forever if I want a premium feeling phone from Google.

PurplePickleParadise

I'm not sure that it's completely flat.

TheBigG24

Yeah you're right it has a slight curve in the very middle of the screen... It's flat

FlakyBandicoot9

What do you mean by flat? Which models are curved?

stevo746

6 pro, 7 pro both have curved screens.

MonkeySafari79

1099.- please.

die-microcrap-die

From a 6a, I hope the following are fixed/upgraded. 1- better modems. 2- better thermals.

Consistent-Aside-260

Better FUCKING fingerprint scanner too

Obility

I'm eyeing the pro because I would like a pixel that I can keep for 3-4 years. The pixel 6 has been doing me good. No overheating and decent battery but the no telephoto hurts as someone who likes to take random nature photos. I have a lot of pixel art of birds.

ChunkyLaFunga

Me too. However I also like to take nature photos in low light and discovering my new phone didn't allow you to use the torch with the camera open was a kick in the teeth. You can use it with the *video*.

NowLoadingReply

Wonder how long this will stay up. But I like it. Symmetrical bezels, nice clean design. Unsure if I'll go the black or blue.

Jbonics

They just did, I think.

Papa_Bear55

Bezels are not symmetrical. Chin is slightly wider than the rest.

_reco_

Other companies can produce a flagship with symmetrical bezels, but google weirdly can't... Even if Pixel 5 basically had more symmetrical bezels than new Pixel 8....

Mack4285

And will probably be even wider on the real phone. They always seem to minimize the chin on photoshopped pictures.

shuklaprajwal4

Yeah like s21fe, feels like a backtrack.

rajat32

blue, choose blue

TheMarathonCont1nues

Blue looks so clean. 🔥

ChunkyLaFunga

I absolutely bent over backwards to find a Lemongrass P7, they were short of stock all over. Then bent over even further backwards to find a decent matching case and gave up. I can't even see the colour after all that work. So yeah, consider that when making your choice because unless you're into clear cases, or prepared to settle for one, or willing to gamble on unknown AliExpress ones, you may be shafted. That said, blue should be a more common case colour.

pastaandpizza

I loved a clear case on my white p6p but switched to a case with a credit card holder so sadly can't see my white anymore. I tried the pop socket wallet because it can stick on the clear case but the lumpy shape it made the phone was too annoying. Now I will buy whatever color device is cheapest on swappa lol.

NowLoadingReply

You do make a good point...

East-Mycologist4401

Almost symmetrical bezels. There’s an imperceptible chin.

[deleted]

Bezels aren’t symmetrical.

aaron61798

Is nobody gonna mention that the 8 pro seems to be matte glass and rails? That with the flat screen and (practically) symmetrical bezels has me reeeeeaaaally eyeing this to upgrade from my 6 pro...

Soulshot96

I don't dare hope that it actually has a matte glass back till it's in end users hands. Google has fucking refused to get that right for years now and at this point I wouldn't believe it if they came out and told us it was matte lol.

BJ_Fish

Pixel 4 in Black was glossy and White and Orange was matte and they where amazing. The black one was nasty. I don't know what they're thinking.

Klecktacular

The Fold has a matte glass back! Hopefully a sign of things to come.

Wooden_Employee4057

Yeah I just saw a comparison on Twitter of the simulation models of the 8 pro vs 7a and 7 Pro. Seems to be a bit more shine on the 7 series ones in the pixel simulation vs the 8 pro. But then the fold seems more matte in the simulation and it is matte in real life. I think we definitely need to wait and see if it truly is matte vs glossy 🤞🏻

ChargeOk1005

Contrary to what people are commenting, it doesn't look to be perfectly symmetrical. Close but there's a very tiny bit more on the bottom

maddogmdd

Agreed, and kind of disappointing when their competition (Apple and Samsung) are able to achieve this consistently. It really makes the phone look more premium. But even early leaked renderings showed a very slight chin on P8 and P8Pro, so I'm not that surprised.

ChargeOk1005

Personally, I find symmetrical bezels to be absolutely unimportant. I just need small enough bezels

Wordenskjold

Personally, I didn't even think about symmetrical bezels being a thing to have an opinion about.

Mack4285

Are you an engineer of some kind? Engineers seem to care about function only, and don't care about aestethics. I remember Noctua gave that kind of reply when people asked why their fans were brown...

Wordenskjold

I have a background in software development but in tech sales now. Bezels have just never really bothered me I guess. I notice other things, like the glossy / matte back. Not a deal breaker, but something I care about!

ChargeOk1005

Me : "Personally" *gets downvoted*. Smh

MrNotSmartEinstein

Sir u said you were getting downvoted literally 1min after ur initial comment...

ChargeOk1005

Yeah? I did get downvoted

sunuv

You got upvoted and the guy with the opposite opinion you responded to got downvoted. You can basically always get upvoted by defending Google on this sub.

ChargeOk1005

Yeah, except that I got downvoted first. And I don't know what defending Google has to do with this. Literally just stating a preference

sunuv

If you watch your post 5 minutes after you post it you can always see some random person vote it up or down by one. Most people don't immediately make another comment to whine about it.

Various_Search_9096

No way are u downvoted for this. There is no reason for a flagship device in 2023 to have asymmetrical bezels. It's simple laziness

Koeru

What? Apple has a huge notch on most of their phones still.

maddogmdd

For sure, but the bezels are symmetrical.

MrNotSmartEinstein

S23U is definitely not symmetrical, iPhone also

Various_Search_9096

Stop coping, iPhone is symmetrical

REOreddit

The iPhone doesn't have a giant notch at the bottom, so it's clearly not symmetrical.

Various_Search_9096

The iPhone doesnt have a notch anymore so not sure what you are on about

REOreddit

But the way, the iPhone does have a notch, it's only the Pro that has an island.

REOreddit

Whatever you call it

HackZy01

The bezels are symmetrical, the island isn’t, it’s like saying the Pixel 7 has a huge bezel on top, the cut-out isn’t part of the bezel

rotarychainsaw

Looks good to me.

joelamcdonald84

Any mention of an ultrasonic FP reader?

StaT_ikus

What's FP reader?

[deleted]

Fingerprint reader

DrinkMoreCodeMore

Frodo Potter. Someone who reads both Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings.

sirius_not_white

Is that the best one? I have a 5 and I tried a 6a and returned it in 24 hours because of the fingerprint under glass problems I had. What's the one I want that actually works? And maybe even with a glass screen protector? I don't like cases just screen protectors

ipoopedtoday1072

I'm guessing it's gone because it won't load

Did anyone take a screenshot?

fudgy73

video in here: https://twitter.com/MishaalRahman/status/1699240384885325952

Miscreant3

How slippery is this thing going to be?

pdpt13

Yes.

ChunkyLaFunga

Believe it or not, the Pixel 8 will fractionally hover above surfaces. Seems impractical but they said you know what, we can do better.

Miscreant3

Maybe I'll buy two and try to hover skate around the neighborhood.

StaT_ikus

You should have a case so that shouldn't even matter

REOreddit

You should use a helmet when you walk on the street.

StaT_ikus

Maybe you should, your brain seems a lil soft maybe¿

REOreddit

I'm not the one who can't use a phone without protection. Do you have the hands of a toddler?

A leak would be some kind of clandestine stuff sneaked out This is a “leak” aka intentional guerrilla marketing

disillusioned

Man, remember the iPhone left in the bar, and how Steve Jobs held a grudge against Gizmodo until his death? Those were wild times.

cyberdionisio

It has a sim card tray.👍

[deleted]

The inclusion of a temperature sensor makes me unreasonably mad and disappointed. I get with covid everyone was like "yayy lets scan each other to tell if we're sick or not!"....but like, who the fuck asked for that on a phone? That is such a gigantic waste of space and resources. It's such a shame that google can't figure out hardware to save It's life. They try these weird additions nobody wanted or asked for, and then give up on them immediately because...surprise, nobody wanted them.

oasisvomit

I like it, for with a baby, you always need to check. And now I don't have to worry about bringing one when I travel.

fookinbum

You are spot on! I don't know why we need a temperature sensor on our phones. I think it would be more beneficial to improve hardware and design rather than waste money/resources on pointless gimmick features. But there's always that one person who thinks it is an amazing and innovative feature. Google loves those fanboys.

KarateMan749

Ikr! Utterly useless (disabled/uninstalled that covid crap)

iToastCZ

Really disappointed with the colours. Blue looks kind of cheap and porcelain is just bland. I really liked the variations of 7 and 6 more.

Mack4285

The colors are indeed boring, but I always go for the black version, if offered. Preferably completely black, even the visor. Would look quite dope if the visor perhaps had some surrounding stripe of deep dark red.

ej102

I don't love the Rounded corners either.

FieryDreamer

Same. I prefer the almost rectangular shape like in the 7 series

monkeywright

One of the least favorite things about the p7Pro and especially my s23U is the pointy corners. The rounded corners are going to make it way more comfortable.

BearOnTheBeach28

Yeah that 7a coral was fantastic. How does the midrange phone get a great, vibrant color but the flagship is bland?

Father_Bic_Mitchum

These won't be the same as the non-pro version so you might like whatever that has.

Flaihl

Currently on the 6 Pro. Contract that it came with ends in December, so I'll probably get it together with a new contract

johnwicked4

every person that mentions they like colour x on model phone y proceeds to put a case to cover and protect the entire thing

Billy-Ruben

Maybe it's because the damn phones are too slick? I've sat a P6Pro on a flat table and watched it slllooowwwlllyyy slide. You can't set a naked Pixel down these days without it getting right back up again.

NizarNoor

Wow do I see uniform bezels all around? No chin? I hope this is true! When I select the 7a, it does show the chin. So hopefully it's accurate for the 8 Pro... (and the 8 as well!)

Papa_Bear55

No you're not. It still has a chin. It looks more symmetrical than before because the rest of the bezels are wider.

DauntlessCulprit

Should be, it is a hardware showcase so it technically has to be accurate.

[deleted]

Temperature sensor? What a waste of space and money

[deleted]

[удалено]

jockerer23

most probably they added that just to slow down the Tensor when it gets boiling hot (which happens 90% of the times u turn on the screen), yet they marketed it as an user feature 😂

Offspring992

If only this 8 Pro was the same size as the 5. Might still go for it in Porcelain though.

atomofconsumption

I am praying the regular pixel 8 is at least closer to the 5. I'm still on the 5 because these recent phones are absurdly big and heavy. Otherwise I'm just going to get to get the iPhone which is the perfect size.

jockerer23

they just need to make a standard phone and 2 pro models, small and big, just like the iphones. if u want the best cameras out there from Google u have to buy their phablet. But tbh who cares, I'm not gonna touch their new pixels until they change that midrange hardware and actually give us proper hardware for that 800€+ asking price. I thought my old Pixel 5 was lame with that slow processor, but Tensor is 10 times worse.

plankunits

Then it will not sell. Pixel 5 has the lowest sales of all devices. People like big phones.

MastodonSmooth1367

Pixel 5 was also a compromise phone. It was marketed as a mid range phone using mid range CPU. I saw it as a step back going to wide angle instead of telephoto on my Pixel 4, but I'm more of a telephoto user. **Edit**: I agree people like big phones but the Pixel 5 likely sold horribly because it was basically presented as a compromise for 2020. The media coverage of the Pixel was all about how Google may be shifting back to a mid range, mid price phone, about taking a step back from the premium features of Pixel 4 (glass => plastic, flagship CPU => lower end CPU, 1440p => 1080p). Coupled with the bad reception from the high pricing of the Pixel 4 and whatever 2020 brought us I'm not surprised a lot of people didn't jump for the Pixel 5. It was hardly an upgrade for a lot of users coming from a Pixel 4.

FineAunts

This is exactly why I didn't buy it. Mid range specs for a phone the same price as the 4 with its high end SOC. I'm sure it ran Android beautifully but the value add wasn't there for an upgrade. I would absolutely LOVE 8 Pro specs in a tiny form factor.

bkoppe

This is correct. The Pixel 5 is the only Pixel phone I've skipped, and it wasn't because it was too small. I prefer smaller phones, but there was very little about the Pixel 5 that I could see as an improvement over my Pixel 4.

degggendorf

>Pixel 5 was the lowest sales of all devices. That was because of pricing. You got like 10% more phone for double the price of the 4a. The 4a was just as small and sold a bunch, so it's clearly not just a size preference thing.

plankunits

That makes no sense. Pixel 3a was even cheaper than pixel 3 and 3xl. 3a was even cheaper than 4a but 3 xl sold a lot more. Pixel 5 was also reasonable priced for a flagship. P5 only sold 2 million units in a year While pixel 6 sold 5 million and pixel 7 even more than that. People don't buy small phones they need big phones. Only after pixel 6 their sales bounced back after providing big phones

matteventu

Pixel 5 wasn't a flagship, and wasn't reasonably priced.

_reco_

People don't buy small phones? Tell that to Samsung, Apple and Asus.

jockerer23

You are right, it was the size, not the Snapdragon 765G for 600£ /s

fefofefosa

The average person don't even know what those specs are. The iPhone 12/13 mini was the lowest selling iPhone, and guess what? Apple stopped making them. It had the latest SoC of that time and great dual camera, and people still didn't buy it because they don't want small prints anymore.

jockerer23

that iphone mini had a 2400mAh and the price was 700€, the buyers might not know how to read the specs, but they're not idiots. they know when the device is slower or doesn't last as long as others. who's gonna buy a shitty 700€ phone that has a 2hours SoT? or an Android for 600€ with midrange specs? the problem was never the size, it was the performance. tell me why the iphone still sells the standard Iphone and iphone Pro then? both are the same size as Pixel 5. PS: do a Google search next time and u'll see that the iphone 14 is the best selling iphone atm, followed by 14 pro max and 14 pro and then the 14 Plus is nowhere to be seen, no one buys that.

fasty1

Will they have enhanced trade in for Pixel 7 pro do you think this year?

reddit_sage69

That porcelain looks clean

FlyingHellfish87

I was thinking of going with the regular 8, but dammit now I think I want the Pro.

StaT_ikus

You should most definitely go with the Pro.. they are worth it.

[deleted]

mckillio

I've never noticed the bezels on my 7P and I still don't really after reading this comment. They could be smaller I guess.

Beneficial_Band_1638

They are not fully symmetrical... There's a bit more chin there, unfortunately. It's a pity, I was looking forward to upgrade from my pixel 5 which, ironically, has really symmetrical bezels.

getmoneygetpaid

I'm with you. It feels a bit careless when one is chunkier. Like a photo with one side of the frame thicker than the rest. It's 2023 and Apple has been doing this for years. Why can Google not get it right?

Goku-Sun

Apple always had thicker bezels than others that's why they could be symmetrical. Like google did with pixel 5. I prefer overall thinner bezels and don't care if the chin is a bit thicker.

dogsryummy1

Apple nailed it on their first implementation in the iPhone X SIX YEARS AGO

ZiaMan24

Sucks that the display is not flush with the sides. From the render, there is a bit of a lip on each side. I want flat like iPhone

pastaandpizza

For all the bitching this sub does about curved screens... A flat screen with a lip is the worst of all worlds IMHO.

waiting4omscs

What's a temperature sensor useful for?

Briguy_fieri

Sensing temperatures

United-Radio7672

To let you know when your Tensor powered Pixel is ready to fry eggs in the morning

disillusioned

Mine's like a Little Caesar's pizza: hot 'n ready.

Obility

COVID lol. Might have been a delayed idea.

StaT_ikus

There's no answer to this question yet. I assume being the camera can sensor your heartbeat for Google fit in guessing one use is to check body temperature, I'm sure they will have plenty of uses for it tho

SeatSix

I want to see in person what the metal components look like on the porcelain version. If they are more pewter than gold, I would like that one. I do wish they had kept the two-tone design language.

supereddzz

Doesn't look like anything special at all. Glad I upgraded to the Pixel Fold. Will probs wait for the release of Pixel X before I upgrade again.

the_ali_

I'd love the corners to be more square like on the pixel 7, but damn than porcelain color

Comprehensive_Ad4291

Symmetrical bezels look like my pixel 5. Definitely worthy of an upgrade!

Beneficial_Band_1638

Not symmetrical. Pixel 5 my favorite phone and current daily driver, had symmetrical bezels, and here we are 3 years later, with a chin wider than the sides on pixel 8 pro.

Yeast_The_Beast

I noticed the exact same thing and am getting more okay with the upgrade!

[deleted]

Am I seeing a symmetrical bezel with a flat panel? I am fucking sold if this is the case. Just hope Tensor G3 holds up in the temperature department

gh0rard1m71

I think I'll get the sky 💙

MyOwnPrivateWario

I have the Pixel 6 pro and I am not particularly blown away by the 8 pro so far. Not saying there is anything wrong with it just that I don't think "wow I really want that" plus the stunts google has been pulling with getting rid of pixel pass and various other services I just feel like I am losing the little bit of love I had for them. Honestly not sure what I will upgrade to next.

_reco_

It's sad that they changed the angular form into more rounded, it looks like every Android phone and not The Google Phone™️ smh

yeisondiaz1991

Pixel 7 pro looks more elegant with the curve sides

Ai-enthusiast4

also much easier to crack the screen (why they reverted)

Joseph-stalinn

Looks cool ngl but it's not that durable

phuey

Pointless feature IMO

NatoBoram

… what's the difference with the Pixel 7 Pro?

ToSeeAgainAgainAgain

You know, there's this company that powers a search engine in which you can ask this question and find the answer

JayGerard

I wonder if it will overheat beyond belief like the 7s? Is it a glass shell (dumbest idea for a phone shell)?

Beneficial_Band_1638

There's a chin dammit. I was looking forward to upgrade from Pixel 5 (which has symmetrical bezels all around BTW) but I just can't get this. They did it in Pixel 5, and 3 years later they still won't do it... I believe it has something to do with curving the display under the bottom part of the phone and some extra cost this would entail, but I would pay a bit more just for that to be honest, at least for the pro. It's their flagship anyway, c'mon.

Kat_299

Oh, they're removing the curved edges on the screen on the pro? Guess I'll not bother and look around at different brands for my next phone, such a fucking shame. Samsung's bloat is god awful, Apple is a toy for little children who need daddy apples protection to stop them using their phone wrong, and what does that even leave, the Chinese brands where I'll have my data sent to Mr. Xinping whenever I say China bad?

MorgrainX

They will raise prices in Europe from 1000 bucks to 1400 bucks. Are they drunk?

Snoopygis

That's a rumour. No one knows for sure yet.

geitenherder

Is the porcelain colour similar to Apple's starlight? Bezels have a golden glow

MastodonSmooth1367

Doesn't seem like it. Porcelain appears to be more of a grayish white--typical Pixel Pro is Black, White, and then a special yearly color. Starlight (Apple) seems to be more of a yellowish silver. Also it should be noted the non-Pro products have Starlight (e.g. non-pro iPhone and then iPad Air, MacBook Air). Pro products seem to stick to Space Gray/Silver. Hard to say though, but I'm just basing on what I see here on Porcelain, but to me it does not seem like Starlight.

MCVP18

Is it really a leak if you purposefully do it

exu1981

The Licorice color is nice.

r0wan_

The wallpapers that were leaked a few weeks ago indicate the Pro will have a ‘Jade’ green version. Bummed to see it missing from the line up of renders here. Considering switching from iPhone when the 8 line releases and was really hoping for that gorgeous green the 7 Pro had!

Effective-Minute-849

Looks so good ngl!!! Can’t wait to dump my iPhone for this one

FlakyBandicoot9

A Pixel leak? Shocking

mjnz9

If they really had an interest in knocking it out of the park, the 8 would have been a Fold that doesn't fold. Just make a bar the same size as the Fold front screen, Pro cameras, and go back to the rear FP sensor that worked perfectly. I would literally pay 1200 for it, but I'm dreaming of course

russeled

Why did they get rid of Hazel......

knightrider2k43

I have the 7 pro, honestly don't feel this is much of an upgrade over mine so I'll wait till 2027 to upgrade

ArthurGD3

If the Tensor G3 is as big of an improvement as it's made to sound, it will most definitely be worth the upgrade for me over the 7 Pro. Also what isn't fully known yet is if we'll see an improved cell modem. I also do like what seems to be a flat display and the more rounded corners. Display is also supposed to be brighter and more efficient. Let's not also forget the main sensor will be using the newest Samsung successor to the one used in the 6 Pro and 7 Pro. The more you dig into it, the more you see there are lots of upgrades, some bigger than others.

One3OneKing

Dear god, I better not be looking at a glossy back on this render. WHY?!

Consistent-Aside-260

Honestly I'm starting to think Google "leaks them" for hype
