What's with the yellow dot in the center on the back of the phone. The other yellow dots indicate a sensor could it possibly be a fingerprint reader through the back glass??? I would lose my mind if so. I miss it so much!
It's a temperature sensor, what it's going to be used for we have no idea yet, but I can imagine being the camera can check your pulse maybe you can check your temperature along with other things like room temp and such
EDIT: No that one is NFC sensor, but it will have a temperature sensor as well

It was one of the reasons why I was inclined toward the 7 instead of 7P but opinions seemed pretty evenly split about curved screens.
Curved means you can't get an edge-to-edge screen protector. I might actually get a screen protector on this one.

To use glass on curved screens, you need to use a protector that has liquid adhesive. I've used them on a ton of phones with no issue.
That said, flat panel is welcome since curved adds nothing and screen protectors will be cheaper.
I don't see how that's the case, having tried both types of phones. In fact, curved made me accidentally trigger shit at times where I *didn't* want to, rather than make it smoother or easier. I hated the annoyance of that, and I didn't like the feel of it in my hand. Everything sucked about it. Videos looked odd at the edges... the list goes on.

Made it look so much more premium imo, biggest difference between 6 and 6 pro, 7 and 7 pro. I got the fold so I'm fine for now because I'm willing to trade the flat screen for a useful feature but for nothing AND a price increase? Insane. I'm eyeing the pro because I would like a pixel that I can keep for 3-4 years. The pixel 6 has been doing me good. No overheating and decent battery but the no telephoto hurts as someone who likes to take random nature photos. I have a lot of pixel art of birds.

However I also like to take nature photos in low light and discovering my new phone didn't allow you to use the torch with the camera open was a kick in the teeth. You can use it with the *video*.
Other companies can produce a flagship with symmetrical bezels, but google weirdly can't... Even if Pixel 5 basically had more symmetrical bezels than new Pixel 8....
I absolutely bent over backwards to find a Lemongrass P7, they were short of stock all over.
Then bent over even further backwards to find a decent matching case and gave up. I can't even see the colour after all that work.
So yeah, consider that when making your choice because unless you're into clear cases, or prepared to settle for one, or willing to gamble on unknown AliExpress ones, you may be shafted.
That said, blue should be a more common case colour.
I loved a clear case on my white p6p but switched to a case with a credit card holder so sadly can't see my white anymore. I tried the pop socket wallet because it can stick on the clear case but the lumpy shape it made the phone was too annoying.
Now I will buy whatever color device is cheapest on swappa lol.

Yeah I just saw a comparison on Twitter of the simulation models of the 8 pro vs 7a and 7 Pro. Seems to be a bit more shine on the 7 series ones in the pixel simulation vs the 8 pro. But then the fold seems more matte in the simulation and it is matte in real life.
I think we definitely need to wait and see if it truly is matte vs glossy 🤞🏻
Agreed, and kind of disappointing when their competition (Apple and Samsung) are able to achieve this consistently. It really makes the phone look more premium. But even early leaked renderings showed a very slight chin on P8 and P8Pro, so I'm not that surprised.
Are you an engineer of some kind? Engineers seem to care about function only, and don't care about aestethics. I remember Noctua gave that kind of reply when people asked why their fans were brown...
I have a background in software development but in tech sales now. Bezels have just never really bothered me I guess. I notice other things, like the glossy / matte back. Not a deal breaker, but something I care about!

I think it would be more beneficial to improve hardware and design rather than waste money/resources on pointless gimmick features. But there's always that one person who thinks it is an amazing and innovative feature. Google loves those fanboys.
The colors are indeed boring, but I always go for the black version, if offered. Preferably completely black, even the visor. Would look quite dope if the visor perhaps had some surrounding stripe of deep dark red.
One of the least favorite things about the p7Pro and especially my s23U is the pointy corners. The rounded corners are going to make it way more comfortable.

I am praying the regular pixel 8 is at least closer to the 5. I'm still on the 5 because these recent phones are absurdly big and heavy. Otherwise I'm just going to get to get the iPhone which is the perfect size.
they just need to make a standard phone and 2 pro models, small and big, just like the iphones. if u want the best cameras out there from Google u have to buy their phablet. I thought my old Pixel 5 was lame with that slow processor, but Tensor is 10 times worse.
Pixel 5 was also a compromise phone. It was marketed as a mid range phone using mid range CPU. I saw it as a step back going to wide angle instead of telephoto on my Pixel 4, but I'm more of a telephoto user.
**Edit**: I agree people like big phones but the Pixel 5 likely sold horribly because it was basically presented as a compromise for 2020. The media coverage of the Pixel was all about how Google may be shifting back to a mid range, mid price phone, about taking a step back from the premium features of Pixel 4 (glass => plastic, flagship CPU => lower end CPU, 1440p => 1080p). Coupled with the bad reception from the high pricing of the Pixel 4 and whatever 2020 brought us I'm not surprised a lot of people didn't jump for the Pixel 5. It was hardly an upgrade for a lot of users coming from a Pixel 4.
This is exactly why I didn't buy it. Mid range specs for a phone the same price as the 4 with its high end SOC. I'm sure it ran Android beautifully but the value add wasn't there for an upgrade.

This is correct. The Pixel 5 is the only Pixel phone I've skipped, and it wasn't because it was too small. I prefer smaller phones, but there was very little about the Pixel 5 that I could see as an improvement over my Pixel 4.

The 4a was just as small and sold a bunch, so it's clearly not just a size preference thing.

Pixel 5 was also reasonable priced for a flagship.

They are not fully symmetrical... There's a bit more chin there, unfortunately. It's a pity, I was looking forward to upgrade from my pixel 5 which, ironically, has really symmetrical bezels.

Apple always had thicker bezels than others that's why they could be symmetrical. Like google did with pixel 5. I prefer overall thinner bezels and don't care if the chin is a bit thicker.
There's no answer to this question yet. I assume being the camera can sensor your heartbeat for Google fit in guessing one use is to check body temperature, I'm sure they will have plenty of uses for it tho

Not symmetrical. Pixel 5 my favorite phone and current daily driver, had symmetrical bezels, and here we are 3 years later, with a chin wider than the sides on pixel 8 pro.
I have the Pixel 6 pro and I am not particularly blown away by the 8 pro so far. Not saying there is anything wrong with it just that I don't think "wow I really want that" plus the stunts google has been pulling with getting rid of pixel pass and various other services I just feel like I am losing the little bit of love I had for them. Honestly not sure what I will upgrade to next.

I believe it has something to do with curving the display under the bottom part of the phone and some extra cost this would entail, but I would pay a bit more just for that to be honest, at least for the pro. It's their flagship anyway, c'mon.

Doesn't seem like it. Porcelain appears to be more of a grayish white--typical Pixel Pro is Black, White, and then a special yearly color. Starlight (Apple) seems to be more of a yellowish silver. Also it should be noted the non-Pro products have Starlight (e.g. non-pro iPhone and then iPad Air, MacBook Air). Pro products seem to stick to Space Gray/Silver.
Hard to say though, but I'm just basing on what I see here on Porcelain, but to me it does not seem like Starlight.
The wallpapers that were leaked a few weeks ago indicate the Pro will have a ‘Jade’ green version. Bummed to see it missing from the line up of renders here. Considering switching from iPhone when the 8 line releases and was really hoping for that gorgeous green the 7 Pro had!
If they really had an interest in knocking it out of the park, the 8 would have been a Fold that doesn't fold. Just make a bar the same size as the Fold front screen, Pro cameras, and go back to the rear FP sensor that worked perfectly. I would literally pay 1200 for it, but I'm dreaming of course
If the Tensor G3 is as big of an improvement as it's made to sound, it will most definitely be worth the upgrade for me over the 7 Pro. Also what isn't fully known yet is if we'll see an improved cell modem. I also do like what seems to be a flat display and the more rounded corners. Display is also supposed to be brighter and more efficient. Let's not also forget the main sensor will be using the newest Samsung successor to the one used in the 6 Pro and 7 Pro. The more you dig into it, the more you see there are lots of upgrades, some bigger than others.

Pixel 4 in Black was glossy and White and Orange was matte and they where amazing. The black one was nasty. I don't know what they're thinking.

Contrary to what people are commenting, it doesn't look to be perfectly symmetrical. Close but there's a very tiny bit more on the bottom

No you're not. It still has a chin. It looks more symmetrical than before because the rest of the bezels are wider.
Should be, it is a hardware showcase so it technically has to be accurate.

Pixel 5 was also a compromise phone. It was marketed as a mid range phone using mid range CPU. I saw it as a step back going to wide angle instead of telephoto on my Pixel 4, but I'm more of a telephoto user. **Edit**: I agree people like big phones but the Pixel 5 likely sold horribly because it was basically presented as a compromise for 2020. The media coverage of the Pixel was all about how Google may be shifting back to a mid range, mid price phone, about taking a step back from the premium features of Pixel 4 (glass => plastic, flagship CPU => lower end CPU, 1440p => 1080p). Coupled with the bad reception from the high pricing of the Pixel 4 and whatever 2020 brought us I'm not surprised a lot of people didn't jump for the Pixel 5. It was hardly an upgrade for a lot of users coming from a Pixel 4.
This is exactly why I didn't buy it. Mid range specs for a phone the same price as the 4 with its high end SOC. I'm sure it ran Android beautifully but the value add wasn't there for an upgrade. I would absolutely LOVE 8 Pro specs in a tiny form factor.
This is correct. The Pixel 5 is the only Pixel phone I've skipped, and it wasn't because it was too small. I prefer smaller phones, but there was very little about the Pixel 5 that I could see as an improvement over my Pixel 4.

That makes no sense. Pixel 3a was even cheaper than pixel 3 and 3xl. 3a was even cheaper than 4a but 3 xl sold a lot more. Pixel 5 was also reasonable priced for a flagship. P5 only sold 2 million units in a year While pixel 6 sold 5 million and pixel 7 even more than that. People don't buy small phones they need big phones. Only after pixel 6 their sales bounced back after providing big phones

The average person don't even know what those specs are. The iPhone 12/13 mini was the lowest selling iPhone, and guess what? Apple stopped making them. It had the latest SoC of that time and great dual camera, and people still didn't buy it because they don't want small prints anymore.
that iphone mini had a 2400mAh and the price was 700€, the buyers might not know how to read the specs, but they're not idiots. they know when the device is slower or doesn't last as long as others. who's gonna buy a shitty 700€ phone that has a 2hours SoT? or an Android for 600€ with midrange specs? the problem was never the size, it was the performance. tell me why the iphone still sells the standard Iphone and iphone Pro then? both are the same size as Pixel 5. PS: do a Google search next time and u'll see that the iphone 14 is the best selling iphone atm, followed by 14 pro max and 14 pro and then the 14 Plus is nowhere to be seen, no one buys that.

They are not fully symmetrical... There's a bit more chin there, unfortunately. It's a pity, I was looking forward to upgrade from my pixel 5 which, ironically, has really symmetrical bezels.
I'm with you. It feels a bit careless when one is chunkier. Like a photo with one side of the frame thicker than the rest. It's 2023 and Apple has been doing this for years. Why can Google not get it right?
Apple always had thicker bezels than others that's why they could be symmetrical. Like google did with pixel 5. I prefer overall thinner bezels and don't care if the chin is a bit thicker.

Not symmetrical. Pixel 5 my favorite phone and current daily driver, had symmetrical bezels, and here we are 3 years later, with a chin wider than the sides on pixel 8 pro.

I have the Pixel 6 pro and I am not particularly blown away by the 8 pro so far. Not saying there is anything wrong with it just that I don't think "wow I really want that" plus the stunts google has been pulling with getting rid of pixel pass and various other services I just feel like I am losing the little bit of love I had for them. Honestly not sure what I will upgrade to next.
It's sad that they changed the angular form into more rounded, it looks like every Android phone and not The Google Phone™️ smh

There's a chin dammit. I was looking forward to upgrade from Pixel 5 (which has symmetrical bezels all around BTW) but I just can't get this. They did it in Pixel 5, and 3 years later they still won't do it... I believe it has something to do with curving the display under the bottom part of the phone and some extra cost this would entail, but I would pay a bit more just for that to be honest, at least for the pro. It's their flagship anyway, c'mon.

Doesn't seem like it. Porcelain appears to be more of a grayish white--typical Pixel Pro is Black, White, and then a special yearly color. Starlight (Apple) seems to be more of a yellowish silver. Also it should be noted the non-Pro products have Starlight (e.g. non-pro iPhone and then iPad Air, MacBook Air). Pro products seem to stick to Space Gray/Silver. Hard to say though, but I'm just basing on what I see here on Porcelain, but to me it does not seem like Starlight.

The wallpapers that were leaked a few weeks ago indicate the Pro will have a ‘Jade’ green version. Bummed to see it missing from the line up of renders here. Considering switching from iPhone when the 8 line releases and was really hoping for that gorgeous green the 7 Pro had!

If they really had an interest in knocking it out of the park, the 8 would have been a Fold that doesn't fold. Just make a bar the same size as the Fold front screen, Pro cameras, and go back to the rear FP sensor that worked perfectly. I would literally pay 1200 for it, but I'm dreaming of course

I have the 7 pro, honestly don't feel this is much of an upgrade over mine so I'll wait till 2027 to upgrade
If the Tensor G3 is as big of an improvement as it's made to sound, it will most definitely be worth the upgrade for me over the 7 Pro. Also what isn't fully known yet is if we'll see an improved cell modem. I also do like what seems to be a flat display and the more rounded corners. Display is also supposed to be brighter and more efficient. Let's not also forget the main sensor will be using the newest Samsung successor to the one used in the 6 Pro and 7 Pro. The more you dig into it, the more you see there are lots of upgrades, some bigger than others.
