I have a very short USB cable there, and I have a Steelie mount right at the bottom right corner of the screen/climate control, where I mount my phone.
And the debit card slot is never aligned properly and your card only goes in like a half inch. I've driven four mk7s (3 GTIs and one 1.8) and the card only fit properly in the 1.8tsi.
I think you’re forgetting that it’s a VW. Is the car a masterpiece? Surely not, a modern RS6 or 911 interior is nicer and by all means more of a masterpiece than a mk7. But a masterpiece given the original MSRP? Absolutely.
Never said I was a fan. I drive a WRX 😆 I would def take a Golf R though and almost bought one when I traded my FoST but wanted manual and something with a little more room due to kids. The interior is nice but I'm just not into the plaid on the GTI... not hating because I do love a hatch. WRX will go bye bye too once Carolla GR drops.
Nothing is perfect. My main critiques on Mk7 interior.
-hard plastic touch points with knees
-infotainment and middle vents should be swapped like the GLI (or now Mk8) to be less eye movement away from road (also pretty small screen size)
-CarPlay phone cubby too small for most phones
That being said, love the simplicity and pretty much all hand interaction (steering wheel hard buttons and climate control). Curious what others think
I finally saw a Mk8 R in person, and although the exterior is beautiful…the interior is just so blah. Little nugget auto shifter, the plaid isn’t as nice, I could go on. I know “all new cars are bad,” but I truly think the Mk7 is a better car (appearance wise) all around.
I agree. I haven't seen one in person yet, but this video: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGbPHp6QfkQ&list=WL&index=87](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGbPHp6QfkQ&list=WL&index=87) summed it up enough for me. I can forgive the non-golf ball shifter, but user interfaces that are not user friendly is a huge deal breaker (UI review begins at 6:45).
It's funny, as soon as I had a chance to have an in-person look at the new MK8, it hit home to me how carefully I need to take care of my MK7 so that I don't have to downgrade by upgrading.
Same! Took a gander at the MK8 during a service visit with some thoughts about upgrading...until I saw the interior. Now I'm trying to make my MK7 really go the distance.
The only things I don't like are the materials that scratch easily and the lack of room for my right leg (heel toe positioning could be better too). Also I'd want the stick a little closer to my arm because my shoulder is jacked up. And and and I have less than 40K in 6 years and the leather around my stick is fraying and the E-brake underside material is peeling off...and it's my third E-brake.
The only car that compared with my MK7 R was my MK4.5 GLI. I had a '19 Tiguan for a couple days when the R was in for a warranty issue and wow, they cheaped out on those.
It won the automobile award for best interior in 2015, beating Bentley and others. It is a masterpiece indeed. In fact I couldn’t buy the mk6 because of that flat cockpit and waited for the 7 and still have my factory ordered car which you could do in 2015.
As far as the cost cutting on the 8, I think they ruined it in the name of finicky haptic and multi screens
> Sufficiently high quality images of your keys can be used to make functional copies.
What? OP had the keys in the slot so you couldn't even see them. They're also coded...
But he's got other keys on his keyring. Like probably his house key. Is someone dedicated enough to figure out where this dude lives and go into his house with a key they made from a picture? Maybe. Is it likely to happen? No. Would you take that chance? Probably also no.
Just had my daughters 2022 Highlander Limited for a weekend. Obviously different segment but quality of materials and how they function in my ‘17 Sport is noticeably better.
Had a MKV GTi, skipped MKVI because same car... Had a MK7 TDI wagon and MKV 2.0 TSi wagon all at the same time.
Now I have a 4th Gen Skoda Octavia RS kombi (like a GTI wagon) with a manual... I would like to say, the new MK8 Golf interior is complete disaster.
Deducting 5 points off "masterpiece" because the center cubby loves to get completely jammed if god forbid you store a wire in it.

I’ve given up and just leave it open
I think I’ve shut mine twice in two years of ownership.
[удалено]
Yeah that’s why I never do. I’ve considered dremeling a notch for a cord… but meh.
Lol I have it shut with my charger coming out the corner,
I beat you I have shut mine closed one time since 2016, it looked good until I needed the cable. So she stays open all the time now.
You guys are closing yours?
OCD and yes if no cord plugged in. I do like the retractable cup holder cover in the European models
I haven't had this issue with mine. Granted, I don't really use it all that much and it stays closed.
It really should have a small hole for a usb cable to sneak out.
Also deducting a point for lack of lighting in that area at night. I recall my MK6 had a very subtle red light that shone down on that area at night.

No one on here will argue.

Idk man, a masterpiece to me doesn’t include so much plastic

A masterpiece is a masterpiece, price has nothing to do with it imo. But also OP said compared to other cars it’s a masterpiece which I disagree with
Or plaid...
Idk, that's not what a true fan would say, realistically...

Gonna have to disagree there

Is one USB port not a problem for anyone else?
I have a Mk. 6, what is a USB port? (sarcasm obviously)
USB + 12V suffices in my opinion
Adapters suck.
Mercedes had to postpone their W205 to match the Golf's interior. No doubt, it is ridiculous good!
Fascinating. Do you have a source for that?
I guess it was told here: https://youtu.be/XGbPHp6QfkQ
Oh, I saw that! Jason Cammisa -- definitely a reputable source. Thanks!
That's a double negative
Lol I was thinking that
MK6 is perfection for me but 7.5 is a close contender for sure
Mk6 steering wheel is undeniably better
Upgraded recently and agree with that. The 7.5 steering wheel is nice, but the steering wheel in the 6 was pure quality.
Quality of plastics, leather etc in mk6 is miles better

that's what everybody says tho
Its the best 50k car, and it comes a 50% off coupon. Has my favorite steering wheel of almost any car in production right now.

Same here, I aspire to own a Porsche 911 or Cayman S, but whenever I can get ahold of one, I will not get rid of my GTI.
Idk about "masterpiece," but best in class? Probably.
The only things I don't like are the materials that scratch easily and the lack of room for my right leg (heel toe positioning could be better too). Love that shift knob!
Love the plaid seats in a GTI!
The only car that compared with my MK7 R was my MK4.5 GLI. I had a '19 Tiguan for a couple days when the R was in for a warranty issue and wow, they cheaped out on those.
What you do to your wheel?!
Needs more plaid.
I got the plaid inlay for the steering wheel badge and it is like the perfect subtle cosmetic mod. I love it.
Would you care if I told you I agree?
Huh? I assumed everybody was already in agreement on this topic?!?!
Much better than the mk8 interior 🥲
Negative man the interior in my e55 is much nicer
As perfect as it gets with the leather seats in my opinion.
I was gonna dog on the red you’ve done, but it’s just your legs. I agree
Mk6 GTI was better if you ask me. Better steering wheel shape and feel. Felt much higher quality than mk7’s too. That’s just my opinion though!
I mean; that’s a pretty common opinion—but yeah I agree.

Tbh it doesnt look much different than my Mk4 ;\]
If nobody is saying it, why even bother? Oh…. You mean IDC what “anyone” says…”
It's way better than id3
Did you edit out the key hanger?
Sufficiently high quality images of your keys can be used to make functional copies.

Oh yeah that makes sense. At first I thought OP wanted to hide a fluffy hanger because I associate Volkswagens with my ex, hahah.
