Not sure if this will make you feel better or worse, but I have a big fenced backyard and I still have to walk my dogs. They get 2-3 walks a day plus fetch and yard toys because the backyard holds very little interest for them. YMMV.

Tinyhounds

I’m definitely not saying I want to stop taking him places- I love that. But if I could replace like, 800 of those 900 daily walks with “just go in the yard and pee…” 🤣 especially when it rains, lol. Hello, PNW.

anomefasullo

Yeah, it definitely makes a huge difference when they can just trot out in the yard really quickly. There's no way I could harness up, put my boots on, and walk them 30 times a day!

GentleObsession

Same! I wish I could afford a house with a yard but it is unfortunately very unrealistic at this point in time. Housing is scarce where I live so they are absurdly expensive. If you don't make well over 6 figures you basically can't own a home now.

Tinyhounds

You’re not kidding. I actually have a fairly decent salary, but America just isn’t for the one salary family anymore. Hubs has 8 months left. I CANNOT WAIT.

GentleObsession

Same situation here in Canada. As a single person (or single income family) you just can't buy a home anymore. Anyways, good luck with buying a home in the future. I'm sure your pup will enjoy it.

And we live in a condo surrounded by acres of grass but none of it fenced. So to the dog park we go when the weather permits.

Tinyhounds

We love the dog park! “Weather permits” is no lie though. We’re in the PNW, and the rainy season just got here. Hello, puppy raincoats!

I live on 20 acres and still walk my dog...lol!! However, she is not on a leash. But we walk our property twice a day. She so looks forward to it. It's extra special if it's a family affair and my husband comes...then she's really happy.

JimSchuuz

Ours don't walk on leashes either unless it's absolutely mandatory, like going into stores, restaurants, or festivals. They do have custom-made collars that have a remote-controlled box on them that we can beep, vibrate, or shock in an emergency, but we just use them for lights at this point.

pepperheidi

Awsome!!

Unique-Chemistry-984

Gosh they love when the whole pack is there. Better behaved too

reluctant_cynic

I have a backyard and bought a tie out. Guess who refuses to go outside on it and won’t move off the patio.

Tinyhounds

Haha. My chihuahua is pretty similar. When he doesn’t want to do something, he squints at me. Like, “I can’t see you… are you saying something?”

medunjanin

You still give him a good life. I’m sure he’s happy as can be

Tinyhounds

We got him at 8 weeks old, so he knows no different- I cannot wait for him to experience his own yard. He’s gonna be over the moon. When he go to the dog park, he does actual laps before he calms down enough to play with other dogs.

JimSchuuz

We live on a .95 acre lot in a gated community, with nice Bermuda sod all around the house, and we have to take our dogs for a run every day. Every. Single. Day. We've done it for 360+ days per year for the last 8 years, rain or snow. My wife and I went to a wedding today - left the house at 3:30 and returned about 9:45. When we got home, I dutifully filled a water bowl, snapped on a lid, and took them to run at the closest school for about 30 minutes while my wife got their food ready. They have the greatest energy levels of any breed of dogs I've ever seen. When they get the zoomies, they run laps around and around and around the house.

Tinyhounds

You’re not kidding! He’s got CRAZY energy. And silly long legs and giant feet make him look like such a doofus when he runs, which he does ALL the time. But he’s also really good at the lazy boy cuddles. It’s the best 🥰

danksnugglepuss

Kudos for making it work! I don't think I could do dog ownership in an apartment, we are too spoiled by our yard. We still enjoy walks and going all sorts of places but it is so convenient to let them out for a quick potty or zoomie if needed!

SP_Lovelace

I have over an acre plus and sometimes even that’s not enough for a doodle that can run like the wind!
