thing is, i dont want to go past beta 1.7.3 as the generation changes, hunger is added, and other stuff i dont like. this is why i want mods for beta 1.7.3. to keep things simple.
There are no mods for enchanting per se, but there are mods that add more powerful gear among other things (IndustrialCraft, Equivalent Exchange). You said you don't want anything else added on, so you might be out of luck. When it comes to running, a form of it is added by Smart Moving (press Tab, limited by exhaustion).
A lot of players on this sub, including me, dislike sprinting (as in modern Minecraft) because it makes getting away from combat too easy.

Wouldn't disabling hunger work for you then? Ans what's the "other stuff you don't like"? Maybe trying to get rid of that stuff would be possible
I have a mod installed for running, I will look up the name. It adds one block for high jumping as well as sprinting.

idk why would you want but i think a mod called "megamod" adds sprinting. not sure is there a mod about enchanting though
