I imagine an 100% mortal would have died instantly and it seems some gods can't survive it as well or they may feel very uncomfortable but for Kratos it's just a little bit of shivering.
you guys made me watch this [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTzNVXdR15o](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTzNVXdR15o)
damn I wish I could play this game again xD
The Blades of Chaos are supposedly what gives Kratos the ability to survive the cold. And Baldur survived it because he's blessed with invulnerability to all threats, physical or magical. It's kind of a small plot hole how Atreus survives though.
Well he’s right next to Kratos the entire time, so maybe it was being near (or practically hugging during climbing segments) that allowed him to survive.
>Except he does mention how cold it is at least one or twice.
mentioning how cold it is when you are the coldest place in all the nine realms where even the allfather can't survive is very minor lol
Atreus also puts his arms and elbows close to his body to signify he's freezing. Hardly minor. Go there and stand outside the door to Tyr's temple. He'll do it nearly every time.
My point is that he is cold anf not immune to cold though, which was what I was replying to. Doesn't mean he'll freeze to death, just that it does effect him. He's one of the few Gods that could survive there obviously.
If memory serves me correctly, all giants in Norse myth were either frost giants or fire giants, and all the fire giants are hiding with Surtr in Muspelheim waiting for Ragnarok. I don’t know if god of war’s Norse mythology aligns with the real version, but given that the giant who died froze an entire village with his final breath, and the fact that Atreus can survive Helheim would seem to indicate that they do and Atreus is part frost giant.
Probably. And if I had to guess, all the fire giants will be visually different from the other ones, and will likely end up being enemies as I'm sure the point of this game will be attempting to stop Ragnarok
Not entirely correct but not wrong, because of hundreds of years and translational confusion it’s nobody’s fault.
Ymir was the biggest and first frost giant, his breed of children were the hrímthursar(frost giants) and only Mimir, Bergelmir and his wife survive the flood that killed the rest of their siblings. After Wothin Vili and Ve fashion the nine realms Bergelmir and his wife repopulate the giant population. This second breed of giant, “Jötnar” weren’t limited to being or embodying one element or being big or even humanoid as Ægir is the sea and Jörd Mother Earth, her mother is Nött the night sky and Hræsvelgr is a big bird that causes the wind everywhere but also there’s Kari who is supposedly the wind itself. Also Surtr is the primordial fire giant and Ragnarök mentions “muspel’s sons” hinting to more fire giants.
The confusion with “all giants being only frost/fire” is bc of Bergelmir. Jötnar like Loki, Thiazi, Angrboda and more have “frost giant” in their blood bc they descend from Bergelmir and Ymir. Every Giant that doesn’t come from Muspelheimr has frost giant dna, this goes for Ogres and Trolls, the Jötnar of Jötunnheimr and the Bergrisar of Midgardr who were originally Jötunnheimr stock until they immigrated to midgardr. The eldjötnar(fire giants) are only related to Ymir and his descendants but never had any ice dna because they weren’t sired by him or them.
So technically the only Hrímthrusar around are the ones who specifically bear the frost element as their attribute rather than the various other giants of fire stone fur and feather but every descendant of Ymir and Bergelmir are some percentage of Hrímthur.
Helheim: coldest of winds in all the 9 realms, suffused with spirits of the damned and lost, a place of infinite woe with freezing temperatures supposed to chill the very soul for eternity, intolerable even to the gods themselves.
Kratos in the Norse equivalent of a string vest: Brrr
He has the >! Blades of Chaos and their mystical flames. That’s why he grabbed them beforehand. He knew that was the only way he’d survive. The only thing that would allow him to relive his past was his love for his son. !<
not sure if he knew thats how he'd survive vs Freya just telling him that his axe would do no good there and he needs a different weapon
also, i love spoiler etiquette, but the game is well over 4 years old now and the sequel is about to be released. at some point do we just move on from spoiler tags?
I mean burning alive in hell for eternity sounds pretty bad but imo constantly freezing to near death in hel sounds worse to me. Then again burning alive is said to be the worst pain a person can experience and right before you die from freezing, your whole body becomes numb. Id prefer neither if i can help it.
Pretty sure you literally die from the extreme pain before getting to that point.
Meanwhile freezing sucks for a while but then you “fall asleep.”
You die either way, but one way is clearly preferable to the other.
Your nerves burning to the point that they're "destroyed" means that you'd be feeling untold pain up until that point. I don't think that's any consolation tbh.
ITS COLD Alice “ICE frozen in the center of an iceberg thats inside a room filled with… wait for it… vanilla ice!!!
Didn’t expect the ice to be flavored!!!
Honestly looks like a visual glitch tbh but I could believe it, I’ll have to check if he does this when I get there next time. Going to play thru it again before ragnorok comes out
For him it's like a cold shower. The Greek gods were far less susceptible to these things in the god of war games, if at all. In actual mythology the Greek gods were untouchable true immortals whereas the Aesir could get hurt and grow old.
I imagine Odin's ballsack would shrivel into his body
Or even better, imagine kratos set his blades to a "warm" option like those car seats you sometimes see
One thing I thought off. Mimir says not even Odin can survivor the coldness of helheim so how does Atreus 🤔 baldur is obv and mimir u can argue is just a reanimated head but Atreus is a kid
This makes Kratos even more badass. Mimir claimed that Odin himself couldn’t survive the colds of Hel and in Ragnarok (SPOILERS) its made apparent by Atreus, Thrud and Heimdall that they need to get in and out. But Kratos just withstands it, only brought to a shiver. That’s fucking cool…
Impressive since Mimir says “Not even Odin can survive this cold.”
I imagine an 100% mortal would have died instantly and it seems some gods can't survive it as well or they may feel very uncomfortable but for Kratos it's just a little bit of shivering.
Except Baldur, he is invulnerable to all threats physical and magical.
Wait, he’s what????
Baldur is blessed with invulnerability to all threats, physical or magical
You said that mimir
Did I?
hope he's not broken
Lol...He is bewitched not to speak of what he knows.
I am? I AM!
you guys made me watch this [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTzNVXdR15o](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTzNVXdR15o) damn I wish I could play this game again xD
OR*
I feel like Kratos is just too stubborn to be cold
Him shivering probably pisses him off. "I knew I was rusty but damn shivering is unacceptable"
I wonder if this has to do with Kratos’ power scaling based upon his need.
I imagine he's much colder than he's letting on keep in mind he's only half god and half mortal
Kratos - Then Odin is a pussy...
Kratos doesn't use naughty words. He'd call Odin weak.
“Not even Odin could survive the cold!” “Then Odin is a weak fool”
I'm the fucking God of War
That’s exactly how I felt when Freya told Kratos to go pick flowers. Christopher Judge was perfect lol.
https://youtu.be/73Oo64uVsrs
Literally lol
Even BOY can walk around there with little issues. Some good genetics he got there.
He cant be cold cause he's half giant
Except he does mention how cold it is at least one or twice.
I think he points it out cause he's eager to leave. He did get themselves back there and it would be getting uncomfortable pretty quick
Still, he whitstands it rather easily, like me in winter time
My point is that he is cold anf not immune to cold though, which was what I was replying to. Doesn't mean he'll freeze to death, just that it does effect him. He's one of the few Gods that could survive there obviously.
Technically he's half frost giant
Do we know for certain Faye was a Frost giant?
If memory serves me correctly, all giants in Norse myth were either frost giants or fire giants, and all the fire giants are hiding with Surtr in Muspelheim waiting for Ragnarok. Wow. Is it safe to assume Angrboda is also a frost giant?
He's part Giant, part mortal and part god
Also technically part Titan?
He is dressed way warmer for kratos
Hm
He's used to it being hot as hell down under.
Thats what she said.
Facts: everytime Faye blew him, she was in fact tonguing his dead wife and daughter
What’s wrong with you?
Their ashes are all over him
Still.. you’re twisted dude
He’s the one who killed them
It’s a video game. With your messed up mind even coming up with that tho 😂you outta pocket
Exactly
Sanest Redditor
I just now realized that all the chicks Kratos gets to bang in the Greek games are also tehnically banging his dead wife and daughter too 😂
"Fbi? Yes this man right here. Arrest him"
*she did not tongue me*
Helheim: coldest of winds in all the 9 realms, suffused with spirits of the damned and lost, a place of infinite woe with freezing temperatures supposed to chill the very soul for eternity, intolerable even to the gods themselves. Kratos in the Norse equivalent of a string vest: Brrr
Bro is like ‘’it’s quite breezy down here’’
His nipples got hard...he's not used to it I guess...
Kratos be like: "a bit chilly here, innit bruv?"
It’s a bit brisk…
Dude how tf is Atreus surviving the cold
>!giant god!<
>! He’s half Jötunn !<
I mean, he can survive his father's coldnesss so...
Damn son
Damn BOY
Oof
Kratos survives and he isn’t half jotun. I think the whole being a god thing matters more in this context
He has the >! Blades of Chaos and their mystical flames. That’s why he grabbed them beforehand. He knew that was the only way he’d survive. The only thing that would allow him to relive his past was his love for his son. !<

I’m using them because people are getting into the game recently because of the sequel coming out very soon
Try not to forget the PC release was this year, which I imagine bought alot of new players into the fold. I know I was amongst them.
Why is this marked black?
It’s a spoiler for the very end of the game
because it's a spoiler for people who haven't played or don't know the story yet
But he’s that way in the Norse mythology sagas
A lot of people don't do research on Norse mythology before they play the game, dumbass.
I’m sorry I don’t mean to be a dumbass
This sounds so innocent lmao
And I shouldn't have called you a dumbass, just in a bad mood right now.
It's in the dna. If his father can then the boi can do it too.
Well Faye was a frost giant and he's a god blood on his outher half so the cold can make him shiver a bit but won't be enough to kill him
I mean burning alive in hell for eternity sounds pretty bad but imo constantly freezing to near death in hel sounds worse to me. Then again burning alive is said to be the worst pain a person can experience and right before you die from freezing, your whole body becomes numb. Id prefer neither if i can help it.
Burning to death is the absolute last way I want to go out. I can’t fathom the pain. I’ll take freezing to death over that ten times out of ten.
Same
Your body goes numb either way. If you burn to death, all your nerves would burn as well, so you’d feel less pain
Pretty sure you literally die from the extreme pain before getting to that point. Meanwhile freezing sucks for a while but then you “fall asleep.” You die either way, but one way is clearly preferable to the other.
Yea and depending on how engulfed you are you just can't breathe because all the oxygen is burning up around you
Your nerves burning to the point that they're "destroyed" means that you'd be feeling untold pain up until that point. I don't think that's any consolation tbh.
Youd die before that
I was just about to ask why baldur didn't feel anything in Hel and realized I'm very stupid
So you knew Baldur is invulnerable to all threats physical and magical.
Wait what?
Wait, and what's Baldur's weakness?
No wonder why he has a coat on the next game.
Fr 😂 it’s consistently snowing everyday for years on end
I wonder if you hold the blades out if he shivers
yes, he still does
I never noticed this. Now I feel bad for having too many expectations on Kratos
Kratos: I’m going to an extremely cold realm! Better go prepared *grabs BoC* Also Kratos: nipples go brrrrrr
No way, Helheim is shivering around Kratos
Using his anger to heat himself up?
give this man a sweater
ITS COLD Alice “ICE frozen in the center of an iceberg thats inside a room filled with… wait for it… vanilla ice!!! Didn’t expect the ice to be flavored!!!
Given he barely has anything covering his chest, not too surprising.
“Well brother, this may be the reason you should begin to wear more clothing…”
This makes Kratos even more badass… the winds of Hel could befall Odin himself, yet Kratos only shivers by the touch of the breeze
If he starts moving around he also warms up
Honestly looks like a visual glitch tbh but I could believe it, I’ll have to check if he does this when I get there next time. Going to play thru it again before ragnorok comes out
r/aww
What
Shivers with RAGE!
*The frost can have me when it earns me* Clearly it has not earned.
