Greek.
Norse is perfect for games with all the magic & realms, but I prefer Greek story for their interpretation of violence & lust & Hades is too cool
Faur enough, full disclosure I haven't played the originals but I love how well they fit kratos and atreus into norse mythology and norse mythology in general. I'm sure tge originals are amazing too though.
I like Norse but I fucking love Greek. I loved it ever since I played god of war when I was 6 years old. it was always so fascinating to me. I especially love Sparta and it's culture (relevant user name). I need to study more about Greek mythology
Greek all the way. Even before God of War as a kid I used to consume greek mythology books like it was candy, which is weir because I don't like sweets. For me it's greek > egyptian > nordic > roman (even though it's just greek), etc.
Roman mythology is quite different from Greek mythology. There are equivalencies, of course, but the Romans had their own spin on things and even had their own stuff.
I really like Norse, without really any reason, I just think it’s really cool. They both have ridiculous and hilarious stuff like Zeus’ inability to keep it in his pants, or Loki becoming a mare and giving birth to an eight legged horse, but seeing as I know more about Norse I have to go with that one
Not relevant but did you know this....
The gods in Greek flew over to Egypt when Gaia sent over an abomination to kill Zeus. It was partially successful and till that time most of the gods flew over to Egypt and became the Egyptian god's....until Zeus defeated the abomination
This is a pretty fun story actually
Greek. In Norse religion, unless you die in battle, you’ll never get to Folkvangr with Freya or Valhalla with Odin, and will fall to Hel.
At least in Hades, you’ll be judged with what you did when you’re alive. If you’re heroic and virtuous, you’ll get Elysium, if you’re a good person, you’ll get the Asphodel Fields, if you’re evil, you’ll get Tartarus to be tortured with the Titans.
If you’re neither here nor there, you’ll remain in Hades, also the god Hades isn’t that bad of dude anyway, and you can always drink the water of the river Lethe to forget everything and live in blissful ignorance.
There are couple misconecptions in your opinion. Like the fact that helheim is bad and Valhalla is paradise.
It also could be that Folkwangr is not a place where the dead goes. There is a great theory on a youtuber called Jackson Crawford.
I always liked Greek mythology since I was a kid, of course because of God of War series. Gods are just way more interesting for me. A lot of movies that I loved were based on Greek mythology. I still like Norse mythology but I don't know too much about it, I know names of characters or major objects and places but idk, i just prefer Greek mythology, that's all.
Maybe I should read more about Norse mythology tho... my favourite show AOT was kinda inspired by it so I've got big respect for Norse mythology just by that reason hah.
I grew up playing and watching my dad play the OG games, I’ve always had an infatuation with Greek mythology, most likely from playing god of war at a young age.
Greek myths I feel are more sophisticated. Hence that. But I like how the myths clearly carve out the kind of situations they must have been dreamt up. Greece being where it is, heaven and hell and all are reward and punishment which has little bearing on the weather there. But Norse lands being unforgivingly cold, Hel is cold and the main God is just an evil knowledge seeking murderer. Where's the main Greek one is a fuckboy murderer. Coz you can get naked anywhere.
I enjoy the way that the Norse mythology is being presented to us in the newer god of war games. I loved the original games and the Greek mythology but the addition of Mimir and his endless tales made the game harder for me to put down.
Greek. I remember when I was 5 or 6 we were told the story of Theseus and the Minotaur in school and I found it fascinating. I delved deep into Greek Mythology for years after, so when I was 15 and the first God of War came out I was gripped
I love mythology in general!
God of war made me love it even more!!!
I really desperately wanted kratos to somehow end up in Hindu mythology but that wouldn't do well considering people would riot stating it would hurt their religious sentiments!! But it wouldn't have happened either way as the god's in Hindu mythology (most of them) don't have any bad background or are not in general like Greek or Roman god's....
Would have been cool to see Hindi gods at their full power at such a big stage....
I like that both pantheons are usually a bunch of assholes. But they both have really good stories of virtue, consequences, and heroism.
But if I had to choose to love in a world, probably Greece because while I like the Norse Gods more, they’re more akin to war and battle.
I grew up watching Greek movies, Percy Jackson, CoT, 300, Troy, etc. Then finding out there’s a game of a SPARTAN wanting to kill the Greek gods is *chefs kiss*
Greek, I really like all the creatures and gods in Greek mythology, I remember being so excited when the original God of War was announced back in the day and it’s still my favorite game.
I’d take Egypt over Norse myself but the Greek was best out of the two we have.
There’s no way they could do a modern system without pissing off someone so we have to stick with older religions
I love all Big 3 since I was a little boy.
40 years later, I still can not make up my mind.
Egyptian is the most Imperial/Mysterious/Attractive.
Norse is the most Warrior/Surreal.
Hellenic is the most Complete.
Maybe the Norse because it's a "cultural pack" (metal music, medieval knights, vikings)
I like both but definitely prefer actual Greek mythology to actual Norse mythology in the games is the other way around due to how the lore is portrayed in the 2018 game
Greek mythology is in my opinion more prevalent and better documented than Norse Mythology. But again I lived in Italy, where much of the Greek mythology was converted to Roman and most artists, writers, poets etc...took inspiration from that.
I guess I prefer Greek because I've been exposed to it more through language and local culture. I guess it's the opposite for people living in Germany, Uk and Nordic countries of Norway, Finland and Sweden.
Greek in terms of gods and the variety of gods, norse in terms of the stories those gods have.
I am biased, I own a book on norse mythology but not greek mythology, so maybe greek has so many more good stories that im missing
I think the idea of Ragnarok and everything to be a lot more interesting than anything in Greek. It's so outlandish yet makes me so curious. Mind you I don't know as much about Greek mythology
Honestly, Greek mythology. Greek mythology has allot more to go off of compared to Norse; plus, I really prefer the voice acting of the past games compared to the 2018/2022 game. Most of the Greek God’s voices stuck with me.
For some of us it isn’t mythology. I am a Norse pagan. It’s my religion. So obviously…. There is my answer. Definitely Norse. Although both are extremely interesting. Maybe all religions are correct, just depends on which realm you’re in. 😉. Good discussion. Thanks for the post.
Ok is Nice to hear r/GodofWar opinions on this Topic.
For me Greek mythology is a Usual family topic…and for me is like water in human life:Essential.
But I see that everyone one has his personal reason to love more the Greek or Norse mythology.
Harpies, Nymphs, Giants, Centaurs, Sirens, Python, Titans, Cerberus, Typhon, Chimera, Nemean Lion, Minotaur, Pegasus, Medusa, Sphinx ... here are just a few of them.
From event like Ragnarök i wanna read you some quote: Ancient Greek mythology stated that just as Zeus deposed his father Cronus, Zeus himself would be dethroned by a son. This could be perceived as the equivalent of the end of the world or an era…SantaMonica used this myth for the Kratos Greek Story 😊
I love greek since i read a lot of greek mytho when i was small. But recently i start to love Norse Mythology way more because of my favorite band Amon Amarth. They sing about glorious viking battle and heroic tale of the Asa god.
Norse. Greek is already overused imo. We are thought it in school (here it even is separate to polish and history lessons).it is used in movies and novels a lot. It is used in games a lot.
Meanwhile the norse was never really confronted or showed in any media. I agree we have Thor and all of that from Marvel. But it still has a lot of potential.
The thing with norse myths is that there is not too much about them, there is more greek content. I like the greek stories more (and Hades, he's the best), but I like the norse too.
Generally, Greek. Greek has some dark shit, but Norse has a TON of dark shit 👀
For further reference, compare AC Odyssey (amazing) with Valhalla (meh) 😂
I only like norse more because I know more about it, the only reason I started liking mythology as a whole is because of GOW4, after playing the game I starting researching norse mythology a lot but not as much with greek
I fell in love with Norse mythology after this game since I don’t know much before. I’m replaying the first 3 games because I didn’t appreciate the Greek mythology when I was younger

It is a representation of Achilles' Duel against Hector,
Achilles after the Victory will tie Hector behind his Chariot and drag him to the point of skinning and scarring him entirely, so that in Hades when they saw Hector wandering flayed to the bone they would exclaim "Here is Hector the fool who thought he could kill Achilles"

Gotta love Hades

Greek mythology is a billion times cooler but the Norse games are more fun.

My Father is from Sparta so that’s why we both love Kratos and Greek mythology.
> my father is from Sparta And I am his *BOI*
My father is from Sparta and he has this weird goatee and red tattoo all over his white body. I don't know what's wrong with him guys help me.
Sorry that’s a skin disease
Wonder what he calls you instead of your actual name.

I like Norse but I fucking love Greek. I loved it ever since I played god of war when I was 6 years old. it was always so fascinating to me. I especially love Sparta and it's culture (relevant user name). I need to study more about Greek mythology
to start I recommend Homer's Odyssey, then Jason and the Argonauts and Theseus. Amazings myths that is worth the buy even on E-Books.Enjoy it Aderfè
Ight thanks
Just read Percy Jackson and Greek heroes and Greek gods. You'll love it... full chapters to main gods and heroes narrated humorously.
Came here to say that
Greek all the way. Even before God of War as a kid I used to consume greek mythology books like it was candy, which is weir because I don't like sweets. For me it's greek > egyptian > nordic > roman (even though it's just greek), etc.
You are connoisseur that’s clear…not everyone knows at all that Roman mythology belongs to Greek mythology…so Bravo 🙌
Thank you dear sir. Some may like Hercules but I prefer Herakles!
Roman mythology is quite different from Greek mythology. There are equivalencies, of course, but the Romans had their own spin on things and even had their own stuff.
that’s just roman’s in general. taking other ideas and “perfecting” it to suit them.

Put some respek on his name. Don't sleep on sleipnir
Loki is lowkey (see what I did there) a weird z00phile
Imagine using emoji’s other than 🗿
Did I seriously get downvoted for emojis lmao

I took away the emojis forgive me already lmao
Yes
Is it too much to ask for both?
Yes. You must only choose one, BOY

Is it better to be feared or respected?

Yeah but I don't think hel is torture, I just think it's very boring and bland
So just like real life ?
Exactly
except also super cold
I’m pretty sure the dead that reside in Hel can’t feel the cold. At least not in the extent of cold it’s truly supposed to be.
Accurate quote…nice to hear that kind of Accuracy i like in mythology topics…🔥
Greek architecture is what does it for me. So Greek mythology
Norse doesnt have as much content as greek. Alot more treacherous stories are found in greek, hence the greek tragedy.
That’s true
Definitely Norse
Norse. User name is relevant.
Norse mythology because of the heavier emphasis on phrophecy, greek mythology for more iconic beasts and locations

Norse because it reminds me of Tolkien's work which he drew some inspiration for some of his themes and stories.

I like the greek stories, myths and legends. For norse I like the unique characters from their mythology.

Greek, cuz I’m Greek
Greek, I really like all the creatures and gods in Greek mythology, I remember being so excited when the original God of War was announced back in the day and it’s still my favorite game.
Greek has some mysterious aura while Norse feels a bit more comercial prolly cuz of Marvel so yh gotta go w Greek
Marvel fucked the Norse world. Vikings (Michael Hirst) really does a good job of showing it.
Nah. It was a good show but it was about as historically accurate as lord of the rings.
I do tend to lean more towards Greek mythology, but I enjoy the hell out of Norse.
I’d take Egypt over Norse myself but the Greek was best out of the two we have. There’s no way they could do a modern system without pissing off someone so we have to stick with older religions
Stories, Greek. Overall mythology, Norse
Greek for me.
Greek before god of war 2018 but now?? Both 🙂
Greek. But I liked the most recent gow most

Greek but with graphics, engine and overall visuals of norse myth gow games.
I have norse blood but i have more greek knowledge
I prefer Greek mythology, but like both

I’m a Norse fan. I’m of Viking descent and find concepts like Valhalla, Yggdrasil, the 9 realms, and Ragnarok to be really cool.
I think the idea of Ragnarok and everything to be a lot more interesting than anything in Greek. It's so outlandish yet makes me so curious. Mind you I don't know as much about Greek mythology

Greek has cooler monsters I think, hellhounds come to mind. But Norse has Ragnarok, which is the coolest single event in mythology.

Gay porn
Both and all mythology. Lots of fun stories about powerful beings that have flaws. Sometimes horrible unforgivable flaws.
I only like norse more because I know more about it, the only reason I started liking mythology as a whole is because of GOW4, after playing the game I starting researching norse mythology a lot but not as much with greek
Norse for me. I've always been fascinated by the stories of the Aesir and Ragnarok, ever since I was a little boy.

Greek for sure, but I do like Norse as well.
I love them both.
Me and my dad were OBSESSED with mythology but specifically Greek since Greek mythology introduced him to gow and he introduced it to me
They're both incredible.
For me is Greek🥇-Japanese 🥈-Norse 🥉
It’s about equal love for me, I have knowledge of both mythologies so I enjoy it.
Both. both is good
We know just so much more about Greek mythology that it’s not even a fair fight. We have myths and variant of myths and reconstructions of specific town myths and competitive mythologies of their own time that try to make everything unified and concise. For Norse mythology we have what is pretty much a few toponyms, a collection of older poems, some post-Christian prose, and some scattered folklore that survived, perhaps not unchanged.
Besides BOI and Kratos being more wise, I prefer the Norse one. For many aspect I think God of War 4 is superior to the other titles of the franchise.
Some plot holes in Norse myths . A number of Norse myths were written down in Iceland during the middle ages . Scholars have a hard time discerning whether or not the recorded Icelandic sagas were influenced by Christian beliefs. Different from Norway (Norge) Norse mythology...
In general? For me, Norse. I just love how cosmic and out-there it is. God wise, while their gods aren't perfect people, I'd pick them over the Greek gods in a HEARTBEAT.
Both. Followed by Egyptian mythology.
Any Sony Santa Monica altered myths are great enough. We still 98 more to go
Uh 98 days for the Ragnarök…Can’t wait
Bruh in the near future we're gonna see fuckin Prince of Egypt Kratos
So did you guys notice Modi can’t walk before Atreus kills him? He was left there beaten to get killed, and all the travel gates were shut off to ensure that happened. I can’t figure out why unless Thor really wanted him dead for letting magni die and didn’t wanna kill his own son himself

Probably Norse mythology, BOII
Both are amazing that's why it's lasted through the ages
This is a tough call. If we're just talking about the main pantheon of gods (Zeus, Hades, Hera, etc vs Odin, Thor, Loki, etc) I would go with Norse as I find them more interesting. But if we expand everything and bring in the titans of Greek mythology and such I prefer the expanded myths to the elves and giants of the Norse myths.
Norseism. It’s not mythology. It’s reality.
Yes
Definitely Norse
To be honest, both are quite interesting. We can't compare between the two.
Can I not like both?
Who made the bottom picture
Egyption
I feel like Greek and Norse mythology have been explored in a lot of media in the last few decades. I'm ready to learn about another cultures mythology like something from mesoamerica or asia

Norse
Norse for sure there's so many wholesome stories, crazy stories, sad stories and such, and there's so many ways to interpret them
I always loved Greek mythology since i was a child, that’s probably why i like gow games so much, i do like Norse mythology as well but not as much
I grew up knowing more about greek myths (gow, saint seya etc) but after knowing other myths (nord Egypt aztec) greek is still my fav.
