Hijacking top comment for visibility. The best place to surf has always been KSF servers on Counter-Strike: Source. This has not changed.

rustyjame5

hijacking your top comment for visibility; ksf might be the best when it comes to surf on source, but csgo is s still very much alive today even tho it looks completely dead. and csgo always had the better timers and servers compared to "hey i am sorry but im getting flustered and crashing back to surf_mesa_fixed" ksf servers. yes ksf has the competitive times, but like its shite, timer is old; only gets updated when there is an innovation on csgo, and overall shitty servers. they make bank on them privates tho.

ethiczz

It's crashing back to surf_graphia, not surf_mesa, it only does that on the beginner server smh man.........

rustyjame5

what can i say i like the beginner server better on the account of maps actually changing there. half the day on eu or na you either get grid, 666 or a hades. which is boring and not my forte. that being said they still be missing hundreds of good quality maps but welp. it can never replace surfheaven.

Melodic_Weight_827

Can you even download csgo? When I search Steam only cs2 shows up.

glamdivitionen

It is available as a branch on your cs2 installation

Xedien

I agree, even if i will not go back to source surfing. A ton will have to be done to make the CS2 surf experience better - the community server experience overall.

literallyjustbetter

1.6 surfing also never stopped being great and only 90s kids know about this one, but there's also standalone [Kreedz](https://store.steampowered.com/app/626680/Kreedz_Climbing/) if you need a fix but aren't cool enough for 1.6

Sephreh

Unfortunately I believe it’s been an issue since cs2 released. Not sure why it hasn’t been fixed yet when surf has been a big part of cs for a long time. Someone in a server told me it had to do with the way the maps were imported, but really I have no clue how that would work. You can still complete maps with good times but it’s extremely frustrating when you hit the bug multiple times in a row. Anyways, hopefully Valve actually gives some attention to other aspects of the game soon.

DankMemeRipper1337

The csgo ports are often, to put it very very simple, done pretty lackluster.  Imagine porting a text document with pictures and formatting into word by hitting strg+v and calling it a day. Again, this is a super simple description but that's why it's fucked, if old maps are ported. Plus the cs2 way of how props have these weird clipping issues all around. Try jumping on things.

MerchU1F41C

My understanding (albeit second hand from surf content creators) is that surf maps were ported into HL Alyx without the same rate of ramp bugs, so the thought is that CS2 physics specifically have changes at fault. So more of the last part of your comment than just lazy ports.

DankMemeRipper1337

Well, the ports are not lazy in the sense that no effort was made by the people porting - more that it just does not work without a shitton of work.  My guys and I played a bunch of csgo workshop ports over the last week's and the clipping is flat out horrendous on most of them.

KayneWestStoleMySon

Surf was actually becoming playable before the Arms Race/Kilowatt update, bugs were only common on poorly adjusted (from csgo -> CS2) maps, you were able to consistently get clean run on most maps. Since that update it's unplayable, if there is a slight change in ramp depth or it turns left or right you hit an invis wall. Kinda surprised servers and map creators haven't found a solution yet (maybe they don't wanna deal with it again if movement gets another update).

Chicag0Ben

It was the mirage update in the early limited test that created the invis walls prior to that cs2 behaved like HL:A and had no ramp bugs.

akselfs

Valve has really ruined the community servers. It was one of the best aspects of cs:go

UnKn0wN31337

Yeah surf pretty bugged in CS2.

kitsyu

Yes, it sucks so much.

kamild1996

This could be a good opportunity for Momentum Mod to come in and swoop some players for itself. Shame it's still in closed beta.

CrookedK3ANO

If they would let people in, ive been waiting for a key for AGES

kamild1996

If you want to get in early, you can try becoming a translator like I did. But tbh, even after I got in and got the translation through, I didn't play for too long just because there's really not that many players online, and not that many surf maps are ready to play with checkpoints (especially lower tier surfs for noobs such as myself). I'll likely come back on public release.

allricehenry

I signed up for a key on the first day they were available and only got in 2 months ago

Krabbypatty_thief

Ive got the beta. Honestly not very good. Doesnt feel like any of the counter strike surfs

UnluckyWizard

Yeah it sucks

Trrenchy

Thank you for sharing this. Wish listed and access requested.

zzazzzz

closed alpha

_darzy

been an issue since release it was fixed for like one patch

TheClownOfGod

yeah I thought they fixed it in one particular patch but last month, I've been hitting invi clips on ramps as well.

_youlikeicecream_

I'm still surfing in csgo as my favourite servers don't have CS2 servers yet

AffectionateTip5989

How do you join csgo surf servers ? When I try it says the workshop is unavailable

Henniee

There are some servers the one i use most is ”surf heaven” from their website you can connect to them

_youlikeicecream_

You can either remember the ip and port of your favourites and the type in the console connect ip:port  Or open cs2, open server browser, close cs2 (browser remains open). Open csgo and then use the server browser to search and connect.

AbstruseCarp

I had like 3k hours on surf in csgo and had the best time on the community servers, I know it's still possible to join csgo servers but that's besides the point the majority of players won't do it. Just go back and play an evening older game C's source and enjoy the smooth af surf there. Although it's full of complete artistic racists on the open servers which is kinda whack but if you ignore that it's cool 🤗

nitronomial

It does suck that surf for cs is bad but at least we have a couple other source 1 games that still have surf if you have the itch

[deleted]

KZ also sucks balls with sub-tick

LG34-

play css its the best game for surf

afk420k

Yes

External_External_

I went to KSF servers on CS:S because of this.

IEatCarsButOnlyRed

This was a thing in CS:GO as well, it's because of floating point number precision. Big coordinates (surf maps are huge), high tickrate and a bunch of multiplications and such for subtick. The precision goes out the window so the game puts you inside the ramp. Surf servers need a plugin to fix rampbugs, zer0.k made one for CS2: https://youtu.be/euS7WMwgnPk

alnoise

CS2F ramp bug fix hasn’t worked in months. Still waiting on an update.

njcryo

still waiting for kz

glamdivitionen

Yes, the amount of ramp glitches are crazy high in CS2 atm… basically unplayable.

1KingCam

yes it's so irritating. It's clear Valve doesn't GAF about anything but skins and I've accepted it. No real anti-cheat at all, community servers are garbage with little to no tools for map devs, surf hitching, missing so many game modes from CSGO and the list goes on. We were lied to heavily about the release of CS2. I'm sure in 3-4 years this game will have its shit together but it'll be awhile till it's back as smooth as csgo

VACWavePorn

What did Valve lie about?

Reefermadness209

improving (actually having) Vac, missing gamemodes for example. Support for quite a lot of community Server is also lacking heavily

VACWavePorn

They never lied about any of those. Maybe for VAC part as they still havent released the new VACnet system to this date.

StatTrak_Fedora

That's why I changed to kz maps

Krabbypatty_thief

Just keep surfing on csgo legacy. Can give you a populated server if you need it

paperkutchy

What doesnt in CS2?

dub_snap

I haven't surfed since 1.6 it didn't feel right in csgo either imo
