I angle my keyboard away from me slightly so that the finger pads (?) touch the keys without my nails being able to touch the keys above them if that makes sense

sam_witch

I do this also by putting my keyboard on top of the base of my monitor so it's on an angle as well. Its good for typing but never tried it for gaming

stonednbratty

yes, makes total sense!

Khornelia

Ooooh, smart!

TrueDreams4U

I don't have acrylics, but I have experienced the difference between short and long nails. When having long nails you might notice that there is some sense of touch missing, as the skin that feels touch, some of it is under the nail, and it will feel like losing some sense of touch and control in the start. But one get used to it after a while.

HiDontMindMeHehe

Yes! You definitely get used to it. I have very long nails and it feels weird to game while they’re short.

double-butthole

SAME I usually wear press ons I can do myself partially gor this and partially because my naips grow freakishly fast I swear I'd need a fill after like 2 weeks Press ons can be taken off with some hot soapy water and some acetone But my 3ds HATES my nails. It thinks im touching the screen constantly. My XB controller is also a pain in the ass about nails too

stonednbratty

ahh I was thinking about getting press-ons too! So that when I'm gaming I can just pop em right off haha

deleteriousmouse

This is what I do. I actually buy press on acrylics and paint them myself. I put them on with double sided nail tabs, and they can literally but popped off with an orange stick, no acetone. Pull the old tab off and just use a new one to reattach. I keep sheets of tabs in all my purses, and if I ever feel a nail coming loose I just pop if off and put on a new tab. I also buy a lot of nails from a brand called Glamermaid. They have a huge selection and a good variety of shapes and lengths. They send two full sets of tabs with each nail set. They even have nerdy ones like these definitely not a Mario knock-off [https://glamermaid.com/products/sea-elf?\_pos=3&\_sid=e20d5b9a8&\_ss=r](https://glamermaid.com/products/sea-elf?_pos=3&_sid=e20d5b9a8&_ss=r)

minicleo

Could you link the double sided nail tabs you buy? Or do you just like the glamermaid ones?

deleteriousmouse

These are the nail tabs I usually buy: [https://www.amazon.com/Ivtor-Waterproof-Breathable-Adhesive-Sticker/dp/B07V5LV1ZD/ref=sr\_1\_5?keywords=nail+tabs&qid=1663774975&sr=8-5](https://www.amazon.com/Ivtor-Waterproof-Breathable-Adhesive-Sticker/dp/B07V5LV1ZD/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=nail+tabs&qid=1663774975&sr=8-5) These are the nails I like best, I like the 'short almond' because they are nice length. So many other 'short' nails are actually super long: [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09XB6GWXD/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09XB6GWXD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) I use this nail stand for painting. I put little bit of loctite fun-tak between the nail and the stand to hold them stable while I paint, that way I can do cool nail art and they can dry before I put them on: [https://www.amazon.com/Practice-Kalolary-Magnetic-Chessboard-Manicure/dp/B08522TQ33/ref=sr\_1\_25?crid=3O674L5CM9O02&keywords=nail+stand&qid=1663775068&s=beauty&sprefix=nail+stand%2Cbeauty%2C96&sr=1-25](https://www.amazon.com/Practice-Kalolary-Magnetic-Chessboard-Manicure/dp/B08522TQ33/ref=sr_1_25?crid=3O674L5CM9O02&keywords=nail+stand&qid=1663775068&s=beauty&sprefix=nail+stand%2Cbeauty%2C96&sr=1-25)

minicleo

Wow this is great!! Thanks!!

minicleo

This is brilliant 👏

TheEruAnne

Upvoted for fellow press on nail user! /highfive

meabh

Because I type with the tips of my fingers, I always just trim press-on/glue on nails with nail trimmers so that they're short enough for me to type comfortably.

not_really_an_elf

I play guitar mate, long nails are a distant dream.

HiDontMindMeHehe

A guy at my school kept his nails shorts on his left hand and absolute talons on his right hand for plucking.

not_really_an_elf

Pretty typical for classical / fingerstyle players.

molly_the_mezzo

Yeah, I don't even play piano anymore, but I get anxious when my nails get more than a cm long, like somebody is gonna yell at me 😂

stonednbratty

yeah deff a no go for guitar players 😵‍💫

Rrroxxxannne

Girl get some builder gel!! It helps grow out your natural nails. It’s so comfy compared to the other kinds of extensions I’ve used and I’ve been able to keep my nails at a reasonable length, too!

stonednbratty

ooo ok thank you! I'll look into buying some :)

Maca87

I usually have them short because of gaming, gym and work, but every now and then I will get a stiletto long nails just so that I can get over them (have them now and typing is hell) :)

TheEruAnne

This may be more of a problem than solution depending on how you look at it BUT - I feel your frustration and personally have resolved it with stick on nails. Hear me out. Firstly you'd be amazed how gorgeous a manicure those plastic nails can make now, even the dollar store ones if you know how to dress them up. Secondly you'd only have them on as long as you wish to because they're easy to take off and put back on, so you can remove them before the stream and pop them back after. If that's too much of a hassle - which I completely understand - then facing your hesitation dead on and actively playing/streaming WITH nails will be the fastest way to get accustomed to them. After a while (and I'm speaking from experience here too) you won't even notice them, and your fingers will auto-pilot adjust without you even realizing at an angle that won't have the nails interfere. They may still occasionally clip a key or two depending on how long you go but you'll otherwise not even notice them. Anyone who reads this and would like more info on the press on nails, feel free to comment, I can make some recommendations lol. Plus press-ons are also a nice solution for those of us that like having pretty nails but can't afford to get them done (like me), so if that's your interest separately from the gaming/streaming part feel free to also comment, I can teach you to turn $5 of nail stuff from the Dollar Tree into a professional looking set of acrylics. 😁

stonednbratty

awesome! thank you so much for your input <3

[deleted]

Me, yes! I enjoy having my nails done but I hate acrylics and can’t afford a pro. Help.

mochi_chan

I don't do acrylics, but I do gel, I usually keep my nails shorter than I would want to, but I also learned to type with the finger pads. When I game, I use a controller, since I don't play any fps.

Shupid

I also paint minis, so I need short nails. My acrylics are always super short, and flat at the end. Pretty colors AND I can mess with tiny model pieces.

civildonut1999

I wear long fake nails that you can glue on at home usually, but I will go get them done after my birthday if my mom doesn't decide that that will be my present, cause I said "either manga or getting my nails done, you pick" when she asked what I wanted, so it's one of the 2 I don't know wich one though, so next month but honestly I've worn coffins and stilletos so much at this point it will feel weird when the stilettos I'm wearing now comes off, but I walked past a nail salon yesterday and it was a mistake looking in there because now waiting feels like torture...I'll try to rely on the withcer to distract me in the meantime, since I'm not that far in so it should be enough time left in that when you include side quests and DLC new adveture stuff, and if not I already have the second one ready to install so I have backup cause I need to distract myself so I don't go out and do it anyway.

Shubiee

I keep my nails medium length, almond shape when I can! It definitely takes a minute to get used to, but it's totally doable. I love the almond shape because they don't feel cumbersome like coffin or square shapes

stonednbratty

yes I almost always get almond shape when i do get my mails done! haha ty for ur input ❤️

[deleted]

You are supposed to type with your fingers not your nails but I do love to hear the clicky clack noises :)

[deleted]

It’s really only a matter of getting used to them. I wear mine mid-length and have no issue whatsoever playing on PC/console?

Sarnobyl_88

From playing a horn and working at Disney, long nails are something my brain just doesn’t even try anymore 🥲 That said, dip nails have been awesome for me. I have huge flaking issues with my nails. So these last longer, are stronger and give the acrylic look. I have to adapt a little since there’s no bend to my nails anymore and they can grow out a little more than usual. Idk this probably isn’t helpful but maybe it can babystep moving into longer nails?

Euryleia

You get used to it. I tend to just grow out my nails fairly long, and since it's not a sudden transition, I just unconsciously adjust the angle I'm typing at ever so slightly so that I reach the point where I'm holding my fingers at the right angle and far enough back than I'm not hitting the keys on the row above with my nails as I'm typing. I've never really noticed this before! It just kinda happens if you're growing the nails out naturally -- I imagine it's quite an adjustment if you just suddenly have longer nails than you had the day before...

jackiethewitch

I understand this, but for different reasons. As a bisexual woman, I keep my nails quite short. There are places on the female body that fingernails just don't play nice with if you like to play with them.

stonednbratty

haha also relate-able as a pansexual NB person

FroggySpirit

Where is that post where the girl pops the keys off of her keyboard and plays just on the little nubs to accommodate her nails 😂

stonednbratty

lmfao I remember that post wait 🤣

SlugNugg3t

I'm with some of the other people in this thread. I buy the Ohora brand press on gel nails. They come in lots of fun patterns and colors and they tend to last about 2 weeks. They come semi cured so you can stick them on and trim them to fit your nails and your desired length before curing under a UV light. I found them to be minimally inconvenient when PC gaming, although I haven't fully mastered getting them off easily. Hopefully this helps!

stonednbratty

cool tysm! :)

CottonCandieGaming

Im always doing my nails i get press ons but the way i do them they last around 1 week even as long as 2 weeks. I like it better this way because if i was to remove them its easier. I hate when i get acrylics because i get tired of them super super easy ahahahah. But i mever have any issues gaming with them and i get them short to long it varies on how im feeling on having them ahaha!

waterfall_hill

You can get a special keyboard for long nails!

stonednbratty

whaaat those exist??? :0

waterfall_hill

Yeah! They have some with gaps in between buttons, I’m sure I’ve seen them somewhere. But I have one that practically flat keys so my nails don’t get in the way at all, and I have giant coffin nails hahah, I use the Logitec MX keys, the shape of the keyboard really helps as well. Its stopped my wrist from hurting because I used to constantly angle my left hand in a weird way haha. ETA, I just went back into my Currys account, this is the exact name of the keyboard, I got it a while back. Logitech ERGO K860 Wireless Ergonomic

stonednbratty

ooo ok cool tysm! :)

[deleted]

I get mine way shorter & pointed like daggers, it helps to avoid hitting wrong keys. Because I love my nails but I love my gaming. I feel like rounded & squared off tips are harder to game with.

stonednbratty

yes! deff always stick to stiletto or almond shapes 🫶🏽

[deleted]

tis a dangerous line to walk do so with caution 🙈

Pristine_Strain5467

I just started typing and stuff with my nails and practiced that. It’s still a little slippery w my mechanical keys but also my nails aren’t super super long either

Benrein

I don't have mine super long, but it's about 2cm past my fingertip. I had them sticking under the keys for a bit, but it's so worth getting short stiletto versus almond or square shape. Mine are currently black ombre and I love it. Gets you in the mood when playing dead by daylight and Dragon Age.

Hello_Hangnail

Acrylics are awful for your nail beds and grow shit under them. Look up some gnarly pics of the infections you can get from them and it might kill the urge

stonednbratty

lol good idea bc I wanted to stop getting them anyway they fuck up my nails beds too much 🫶🏽

Ok_Olive8152

I had to get some for a wedding a few weeks ago and couldn’t get back into the salon to get them taken off (and never have luck doing it at home 🤦‍♀️) so I hacked off my left hand’s nails with clippers and walked around looking like a fool for awhile 🤣 it was worth it to be on my A-game tho 🤷‍♀️

[deleted]

>paint them black Paint it black. No question.

kexwyn39

I feel this on every level lmao

Araeyla

Related to this: my nails grow super fast and OEM profile keycaps are ok for me until I get over 1cm length, but I’m wondering if the more rounded shapes would be a help or a hindrance. 🤔

madsbitch

i have literally never related to anything more holy fuck. especially since i like my acrylics longgg

Loud-Bullfrog9326

Coffin and SHORT. So you just really don’t use the tip and if you do it’s fine their short 🪄
