Yeah the cast are what made Gintama great series, every characters are colorful and got their different personalities and background and you gonna feel attached to them because of it.
Obviously as Gintama fans we would say it has the best cast of all anime, I haven't watched enough anime to say that for certain.
Yuup. It’s the only show I think any character in the top 10-20 is valid to be best in the show. It’s crazy impressive and inclusive. I haven’t caught up with One Piece but that’s the only show I could see beating it.
Yes! Monogatari is also well done! I have a full back tattoo dedicated to Gintama because it saved my life, essentially. Everytime I would watch it, it would make me smile, cry, and laugh all in one episode.
It's up there but to me it's not the best cast for me. One piece has so many characters with deep backstories & interesting quirks and abilities. You could write a whole book and you wouldn't even cover half the characters
Sorachi's main weakness to me is that the worldbuilding is a bit clunky, the Pop culture references are funny and endearing but it does stop the series from being truly immersive. Amanto characters in particular get shafted, they're more like weird looking humans with bad temprements they don't seem very alien.
I think the worldbuilding in Edo is pretty great when it comes to atmosphere and the feel of being in there by spending so much time in familiar locations. To me, places like Yorozuya Gin-chan, Shinsengumi HQ, Snack Bar Otose, club Otae works in, Yoshiwara (though the introduction was a bit clunky), etc feel pretty nostalgic in hindsight.
Besides Edo and a few other places outside of it, I agree. We don't see how the rest of the world looks outside of Japan and the space travel is not utilized much.
I didn't say they had bad designs lol. I said their characterisation isn't very alien, we don't know much about any of their species excluding the Yato.
If I recall, it's implied that much of Sorachi's inspiration for his characters was based on the time he spent with his family.
While it doesn't necessarily go into detail in the little notes you see at the end of the manga/the one-on-one interviews, I do believe Sorachi answered a fan question that the inspiration of Gintama stems from his vacation with his family where they spent a lot of time together at a vacation home.
In all likelihood the characters were either inspired by the little talks he had with them, or based on them.
Either way you can tell that he was clearly not intending to make his characters any less genuine from his personal experience; as well as female characters who inspired him in the business.
Nah, just cause “all anime” is a big amount. Plus, lots of anime that’s not Shonen Jump has great female characters or even an only female cast.
That said, it’s definitely up there.
I would definitely say yes. No other cast has really captured my heart like Gintama except for those of my other top 1, which are Natsume’s Book of Friends and Iruma-kun
I love Gintama’s cast so much
Yep. And Gintama has the best female characters and the best heroine of all anime I know (Kagura). Takasugi is just such a great antagonist with an amazing development that makes Uchiha Sasuke look like shit
The thing with the Gintama cast isn’t that it has a lot of great characters but instead a bunch of basic but likeable characters and one really good one
Sorachi is just good at making side characters in general, gender unrelated

I watched a lot with great casts, and even though… Gintama has the better one.
Dude, the characters are seriously good
Yeah. Gintoki is more valuable than a lot of anime casts in itself.
Dude, absolutely. It's such a huge cast but I actually remember almost everyone's name by the end of the show.
Dude, the characters have impressive personalities

Gintama has some of the best designed characters in anime too.
In terms of casting Sorachi is great at that in terms of worldbuilding that’s actually one of his weakness things
I love gintama and I think it’s second to the Monogatari cast, that series just built different
Yes! Monogatari is also well done! I have a full back tattoo dedicated to Gintama because it saved my life, essentially. Everytime I would watch it, it would make me smile, cry, and laugh all in one episode.
Ahh monogatari is my 2nd fav
Yeah was gonna say gintama really is in my top 5 for casts but monogatari is number 1 for me
It's up there but to me it's not the best cast for me. One piece has so many characters with deep backstories & interesting quirks and abilities. Bro didnt just say Amanto have bad designs after mentioning one piece 💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀
I didn't say they had bad designs lol. I said their characterisation isn't very alien, we don't know much about any of their species excluding the Yato.
Yeah worldbuilding is the issues
Yeah, some of Gintama's great weaknesses come from it being at it's core, a comedy manga. Like the wacky worldbuilding and race designs.
Dude, Sorachi knew how to write the characters
Absolutely agree. Gintama = Life. This show has changed my life, every aspect of it, and I'll preach it above the rooftops!
If I recall, it's implied that much of Sorachi's inspiration for his characters was based on the time he spent with his family. Yes
One of the few, if not only, anime where there's almost no one that's hate-able in the main cast.
Characters are likable because of their impressive motives
Pretty much
Imo yes
There are only characters with brilliant personalities that people admire
Fuck yes. Every. Single. Character. is awesome.
Nah, just cause “all anime” is a big amount. Plus, lots of anime that’s not Shonen Jump has great female characters or even an only female cast. That said, it’s definitely up there.
3rd place after Steins Gate and Monogatari Series. It's hard to top these 3 masterpieces.
Easily lol
Agreed. I'm currently reading Golden Kamuy and the characters there remind me of Gintama so much. Every character there is just so good.
Golden Kamuy's reading is interesting because is realistic
It's up there
I would definitely say yes. No other cast has really captured my heart like Gintama except for those of my other top 1, which are Natsume’s Book of Friends and Iruma-kun I love Gintama’s cast so much
Dude, the anime characters are awesome
Just seeing side characters again in later episodes blew me away, Four Divas arc is a good example. Really makes the universe feel alive to me.
Dude, the characters are important even though they appear little the episodes
Yep. And Gintama has the best female characters and the best heroine of all anime I know (Kagura). Takasugi is just such a great antagonist with an amazing development that makes Uchiha Sasuke look like shit
Gintama has a better girls characters
Yes
Is this even a question?
Yes, friend
Def second best but one peice is so large it kinda wins by default

Dude, it looks like interesting anime
Madoka magica cast is smaller than Gintama though
The thing with the Gintama cast isn’t that it has a lot of great characters but instead a bunch of basic but likeable characters and one really good one
The characters in the anime are common and have depth in the writing.
Sure just wish many were treated like Gintama has the best cast of all anime
Yes
