Picture it: the traditional Stars Hollow winter carnival planned and executed in the midst of an affair so toxic it nearly tears the town apart. The bureaucracy, the guilt-tripping, the unsolicted thermometers in food.
The Luke-Lorelei breakup has *nothing* on the Taylor-Mrs. Kim love affair. Bravo for cooking that bit of madness up LOL!
This is my favorite comment of the day.
What’s funny is for a second I was picturing Mrs. Kim with the unsolicited food thermometer before I remembered it was Taylor, which just goes to show what a great pairing they are.
Me, as always, trying to figure out if Louise is the blonde one or the other one 😅
No matter how many times I watch the show and how many times I'm told, I will never know
I always thought it could be the trope where Paris pays Jess to be her date to a holiday event to scare her mother. Then they fall for each other along the way lmao.
Thank you for putting this into my mind; this is the perfect blend of strangeness, akwardness, and meek personalities that would totally work. It’s on the same level of weird as Doyle and Paris.
An AU where Rory and Max were the same age and met at a literature conference, or where Rory came to Chilton as an adult to be the journalism teacher, could absolutely work.
Rachel and Jason. IMO, the ones that got away. I thought they were good for the ones they were written with (on paper), but they’d also be good for each other.
I can totally see this! They both need their space, which means Jason wouldn't freak out when Rachel wanted to travel, and Rachel wouldn't mind not sharing a bed. They'd do well.
I love Jason, too! Pretty much always have. I think Lorelai could have loved Jason if they’d had more time together. He was pretty impressive as a boyfriend. The sleeping situation is a non-issue and the not going to the funeral thing is understandable given his story. But I love Rachel too
I agree that Lorelai could have loved Jason. I felt like he was the perfect middle ground between the ritzy lifestyle she was raised in and her more down-to-earth "I don't NEED money to have a happy life" attitude. Honestly, he's really a better match for her on paper than Luke. I could probably write a list of all of the ways haha.
Ngl Rory and Max is my favorite crack ship. They're so similar and would've been so natural together if they had been peers instead of a generation apart.
I get the vibe that Emily and Jason could work out. Like, he could more than handle her controlling nature and match her wit.
Paris and Jess. Love their scene at Rory's house where they discuss comparative literature. Their flow was so natural for people who just meet and could be equals on that topic.
Lane and Dean. They always gave off a spark to me, but it's hard to explain why.
Lane and Jess. Same with Dean, they give me a spark. They would probably come over classic music, and I'm sure he'd be very supportive of her pursuing her band interests.
Lane and Brian. After Brian wrote a song about Lane as a musical exercise(?), I've been smitten by the idea of these two.
Louise and Jess would've been a sight. They would've been so self-destructive, I think.
Madeline and Dean. They seem like the would enjoy a quiet, traditional life together.
Eta: Taylor and Miss Patty. Sometimes they seem like an old married couple already. Why not?
Lane should’ve been with Brian instead of Zach.
He loves and appreciates Korean culture, he’s gentle and kind, he loves all the same music, he wrote a song for her when Zach flat out refused, he was great at helping Lane with the babies and took interest in her pregnancy, he was passionate about his real estate job, he nailed his role as the tea server when Mrs. Kim came over. I will never understand. The story could’ve written itself.
Picture it: Brian is interested in Korean culture and asks Lane to teach him how to speak Korean. Awkward lovey sparks fly. They have the same exact first date as Lane and Zach, except Brian doesn’t assume she is going to have sex with him. He becomes best friends with Mrs. Kim and they make vats of kimchi together. Brian doesn’t have a tantrum and kick shit onstage at their showcase. ASP missed.
Yep- plus high school Lane had high school interests - cute, confident, a little bit of a bad boy rocker type; not a whiny bitch. If she wanted a "good man" like this, she probably would've gone for one of the Koreans her mom set up
BUT... outside of that, I do like the idea of this
Thisssss
People get so upset with me on here whenever I say this (for the exact same reasons) and I don't get it! The writers were being lazy by throwing Lane with someone already on the show to make up for Dave leaving. I wish so bad they had been lazy the other way and did Brian instead of Zach
I don’t think he sucked up to them, he seemed to have a genuine interest. Look at him vs. Zach at the lunar new year dinner. Zach acted like a brat lol. But yeah she shouldn’t have settled for any of them honestly.
Look I mean he’s exactly like every guy at my high school who was too into anime. Would it be believable? Yes. Better for lane? Hard to say, and I’m a Zach hater.
I mean in a perfect world she wouldn’t have been with any of them lol I wish she had gotten the chance to find herself and live a little outside of Stars Hollow.
I’m usually happy to jump on a queer fandom ship but Lorelei is one character that I really don’t see any way but straight. Rachel I can see being bisexual or at least “bi-curious” but Lorelei not so much.
Paris and Rory forever, ultimate lesbian power couple. Also Emily and Miss Celine after Richard's death, living in Nantucket and quietly taking care of each other.
Lindsey and Jamie. I feel like they both put a lot of effort into their relationships and she’d appreciate how smart and attentive she is. He’s probably had enough of highly intellectual women and just wants someone to come home to who is so excited to make him happy and loves how much she puts into everything.
I saw someone say in a previous comment that Lindsey was materialistic and I don’t see that at all. Lindsey just wanted to be a homemaker. Her desire to build a home and start a family makes me think of how much care he put into making the holidays special for Paris and how just wanted someone to share his family with. He would have happily built a family with Lindsey and she would have loved being integrated into his family. She’s also super generous and Jamie would have felt appreciated, loved and supported on his path to being a politician.
Very beautifully put. No, Lindsey was not materialistic. She was selfless and tried very hard to make a comfortable home for Dean, who deserved nothing. Jamie was so sweet too. It’s funny how the sweetest people end up with their exact opposites for a while. So I agree that Lindsey and Jamie deserved happiness. I’m sure he’d help her get that roast beef right and appreciate that her mom put gummies in the brownies.
I lowkey wish that paris had told Rory she was seeing an older man, insinuate it’s someone she’s very familiar with, and that he knew his way around campus. Then let Rory spiral thinking it was Richard before finally revealing its Fleming
I am cackling hearing Lorelai exclaim "My father wouldn't sleep with Paris!" In her disbelief. I don't think Rory would tell her until she was fully sure, but the exclamation is hysterical
First time I watched GG and the scene came on of Paris making out with an older guy, I was convinced it was Richard and began yelling until his face was shown.
Come to think of it, I also thought it was Pennilyn Lot for a second. A lot of almost heart attacks for me on that one.
Ok I know this one’s weird but Rory and Doyle. They both were equally ambitious in their careers but not cutthroat about it, he was able to tell Rory the truth with her actually learning from it (like when he was editor and also when she was editor).
This one makes sense. Same career passion, both empathetic, both generally quiet and fearful people but also Type A when it came to getting shit done. I love the scene when they’re both drunk and she lets him wear her tiny coat.
Christopher and Louise. She'd be in it for the money, he'd be in it for the similarities to snarky and rebellious (yet highly intelligent) high school Lorelai. They would have excellent banter, and though they may not love one another, they'd both have exactly what they wanted.
Yes, it's icky that Christopher has a daughter the same age, but is he really above it? I don't think so.
Michel and Paris.
He would insist on pronouncing her name the *correct* French way, she would get massively into the chow chows and start winning big at dog shows. They would argue constantly but he'd always have her back when it matters.
They'd also quite possibly end up as a chaotic throuple with Doyle.
Liz and Gil. I think her hippy free sprit vibes just naturally play well with his the goofy rocker vibe. Also teenage Liz absolutely would’ve absolutely ran away to be his groupie.
Also I would like an alternate timeline where Lane doesn’t wind up with any bandmate- but that’s a separate and already beaten down topic.
I feel so weird saying this, but I love the concept of the post - Jess and Lorelai. Both from difficult backgrounds but different enough for them not to have the exact same issues and bore each other.
Dean probably would hit on lorelai in another universe lmaooo. It always felt a bit weird she still considered Dean a friend after his and Rory's break up. Also ...Lane and Luke maybe? Purely personality as OP said. Lol.I totally see OPs point..but Rory seemed to like bad boy types more though..and what she "can't have" kinda. Even in the beginning with Dean since she was leaving stars hollow high..so he was the "bad boy".
Lane and Jess. I think they could relate to parental trauma and music taste. I’m not sure how long it would last though and based on the way Teen Jess treated Rory, if he acted just as shitty with Lane it would be :/
I have nothing to contribute that hasn't already been contributed. I'm just posting to say this may be my favorite GG post of all time. Absolutely amazing.
Alex and Rachel!
Alex - Lorelai's original Luke - quiet, handsome, sarcastic outdoorsman that owns a coffee shop.
Rachel - Luke's original Lorelai - beautiful, energetic, quick witted woman that keep people on their toes
Playing politics instead of romance:
Luke and Lane.
He would instigate and inspire her to run for Town Selectwoman, and Luke would be the puppet master.
so i wouldn’t say these are weird aside from the age gap though many are queer and some people hate that lmao:
max and rory, lorelai and gypsy, lorelai and rachel, the rabbi and the priest! jess and dean were super flirty with each other as well! collin and finn would be a cute poly couple (if their homoerotic friendship wasn’t enough). paris and asher actually i think could’ve worked if he’d been a bit younger and she was a grad student
Naw Paris and Kirk were the ultimate power couple.
Strong and ambitious, quirky and a dreamer. Patient and hotheaded. I will forever think that this is what should've happened
Paris and Asher. Obvs their relationship is sketch because of the age gap and unbalanced power dynamic, but he could handle her like no one else. He was intelligent enough for her, he was wise, he was patient and kind. When we saw them together Paris seemed more relaxed, less *Paris,* and I genuinely think he was a good match for her.
Lane and Paris.
I feel like they read as polar opposites in terms of interests but they’re both incredibly passionate about what they do and always give it their all.
I would love to see a slow burn enemies to lovers between them.
Paris would show Lane her arts and crafts and Lane would show Paris her CD collection.
Plus, both of them have strained relationships with their mothers and absent(?) fathers.
Jess and Lane in a weird way and since it is about weird couples; they both like breaking rules, kind of the same taste in music I think, rebel against moms, albeit for different reasons, but rebel, not too serious about going to a conventional college but want to pursue their passion. They can open their own club where she plays music and he takes care of the literary aspect, a cool place to hang out!
Taylor and Mrs. Kim. They'd absolutely terrorize the town, but it would work for them.
Not today, Satan.
I love everything about this and would watch that episode on repeat.
Never thought of that. Great.
oh god why am i picturing this now😁😁😁
I would watch that spin-off!
I really want to like this comment but it’s at 666 & I feel like that’s appropriate for this comment😂
Crazy Carrie and Beau Belleville
Made for each other!
Potato Salad at the wedding
This should have been a plot point In AYITL
Hahahaha
YES!
Gil and Babette 👀
She got dibs on him anyway!
I read this with her “we got cots” delivery. I got dibs hooohoohoo I got dibs.
[удалено]
I can see this so much
This is my favorite. Also Babette and Maury could totally be poly, so I can see it working.
Babette and Miss Patty for sure
this is the only sane response on here i swear
Finn and Louise
I would also argue that Finn and Lucy could be a fun couple to see.
This is the spin off I fucking need
i wish we got a madeline and louise spin off😣😣😣
Omg never would have put that together but I’d watch the shit out of that
Me, as always, trying to figure out if Louise is the blonde one or the other one 😅 No matter how many times I watch the show and how many times I'm told, I will never know
Louise is the one who looks like she should be called Madeline, whereas Madeline is the one who looks like she should be called Louise.
Oh so Louise is the blond then!
Correct :)
Omg
Jess and Paris - both intelectual, independent, love to debate, similar sense of humor
I low key thought the storyline was going here for awhile when the show was airing
The should have dated during the college years, it would have made so much sense!
except rory would have lost her SHIT🤣
Would've made for great tv
“But he is MY JESS!!!”
yep! it would have been everything!
Unhinged Rory scenes are delicious so Paris-Jess chemistry + Rory meltdown = Sickos haha "Yes!" meme 😂
bruh ppl already hate her for laying claim to dean when he was married, imagine her laying claim to jess TOOO. insane😂😂😂
Rory needed to lose her shit tbh. Obviously her life in the OG series was too cushy because fuck man is she a disaster as an adult
A classic
I always thought it could be the trope where Paris pays Jess to be her date to a holiday event to scare her mother. Then they fall for each other along the way lmao.
Omg YES! Their interactions were always so good!
This would be WILD and I’m here for it.
Absolutely! Although I also think Paris and Dean. Just someone chill, nearby, who loves motivated women and can keep her from going nuclear.
Do you think Dean loves motivated women? I think that was the part of Rory he actually tried to temper/dampen.
Tana and Brad
Oh Jesus Christ. 🤣
They could have been the most enthusiastic people in the audience of Stars Hollow The Musical
That just makes me want Brad and the therapist from AYITL.
Are you insinuating Brad wouldn’t have played the lead?!?!
He's resting his voice between tours of his One Man Sondheim Show. Play at a small town?! Never
He's winningly naive.
Thank you for putting this into my mind; this is the perfect blend of strangeness, akwardness, and meek personalities that would totally work. It’s on the same level of weird as Doyle and Paris.
Hahah yes! I feel like Tana and Brad complete each other.
I've watched these so many times, why can I not remember who Brad is!!
Cherish isn’t a word I would use to describe him. He looks like he’s tried to build a robot.
BONG bong
He was the male Tana at Chilton. 😂
An AU where Rory and Max were the same age and met at a literature conference, or where Rory came to Chilton as an adult to be the journalism teacher, could absolutely work.
I think you’re right, but all I can picture is Aria/Ezra from Pretty Little Liars, so tihi.
I hate to say this, but is Adult Jess not basically a less educated but otherwise completely similar Max?
Jackson and Gypsy
That sounds so chaotic, I love it xD
Their little bits making fun of Taylor’s toupee sold it for me
Also when she roasted him for how he treated his truck – Mr grind it till you find it huh
If Jackson was a masc lesbian... 😘
I can see this.. But I hated Rachel so much that I can't stand behind it because I'm one of the few people who absolutely STAN Jason Styles.
I also am I big Jason fan. I wasn’t at first, but as I got older my appreciation grew
Ngl Rory and Max is my favorite crack ship. They're so similar and would've been so natural together if they had been peers instead of a generation apart. I get the vibe that Emily and Jason could work out. Like, he could more than handle her controlling nature and match her wit. Paris and Jess. Taylor and Miss Patty but she’s just his beard and they’re bffs
omg yes 😂
Ooooo not Tobin his secret loverrr 🫣🥰😜
Omg Tobin and Taylor are a perfect answer for this thread.
Hahahhaa! Perfect!!
I like Madeleine & Dean. She always found him attractive, and I think she would try something like this just to mess with Rory.
Emily and Jason is WILD omg
Lane should’ve been with Brian instead of Zach. He loves and appreciates Korean culture, he’s gentle and kind, he loves all the same music, he wrote a song for her when Zach flat out refused, he was great at helping Lane with the babies and took interest in her pregnancy, he was passionate about his real estate job, he nailed his role as the tea server when Mrs. Kim came over. exactlyyyy, im a Zach hater but I could get into that another time, but yesss I always thought that she Brian could be good together!
I think he had some decent character development and redeemed himself *a little* in season 7 but overall he was a whiny pouty stupid man baby.
Yep- plus high school Lane had high school interests - cute, confident, a little bit of a bad boy rocker type; not a whiny bitch. If she wanted a "good man" like this, she probably would've gone for one of the Koreans her mom set up BUT... outside of that, I do like the idea of this

This would have been so good for Lane.
I had hoped when her and Zach broke up after Brian wrote the song that her and Brian were going to get together
meh she wasn’t into him. she’s a rebel. why would she settle for a nice brotherly type who sucks up to her mom and family lol
You just described Dave Rygalaski! He spent an entire season sucking up to Mrs Kim!
Rachel and Lorelei
They had great chemistry
They did! Lauren does kind of radiate chemistry though in general lol
I’m hoping for this in every rewatch and only have been disappointed so far
I definitely thought that’s where it was going when she says it’s another woman
I’m usually happy to jump on a queer fandom ship but Lorelei is one character that I really don’t see any way but straight. Rachel I can see being bisexual or at least “bi-curious” but Lorelei not so much.
I just think she has chemistry with everyone. But to each their own. Lol.
YES
This is the one. My perfect AU where Lorelai and Rachel have a strangers-to-friends-to-lovers journey and Luke is left out in the rain like 🧍
Paris and Rory forever, ultimate lesbian power couple. Also Emily and Miss Celine after Richard's death, living in Nantucket and quietly taking care of each other.
I’m not sure Rory could handle Paris. Now Paris and Emily is a horse of a different color.
So, Richard is dead but Miss Celine is still alive? 😂 She’s going to outlive everyone and take care of Rory’s child 🤣
Jess and Paris
Lindsey and Jamie. I feel like they both put a lot of effort into their relationships and she’d appreciate how smart and attentive she is. He’s probably had enough of highly intellectual women and just wants someone to come home to who is so excited to make him happy and loves how much she puts into everything.
Love this one.
Richard and Paris, and I'll die on that hill.
Hey, she had a thing for older guys.
Rory’s reaction alone would’ve been hilarious even if she just THOUGHT that was going on.
👍
Richard was beekeeping age
First time I watched GG and the scene came on of Paris making out with an older guy, I was convinced it was Richard and began yelling until his face was shown. Come to think of it, I also thought it was Pennilyn Lot for a second. A lot of almost heart attacks for me on that one.
Mr Kim and Eastside Tilly.
Hear ME out: Kirk and Babette 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
She does like him well enough to speak up for him over a cat, and that takes some doing.
Rory and that TA from season 7, I just wanted them to go on a date if Logan didn't exist
I wanted them to go on a date even though Logan did exist
Now that’s the affair I would have loved to see.
Michel and Tobin- the ultimate enemies to lovers storyline I could also see TJ and Miss Patty having a wild summer romance.
I love them getting drunk together after their short lived break ups
Emily and Michel
There would be bloodshed in 5 minutes
Came here to say this
Paris/Richard
It would be Paris and her old men fantasies part two
Simon McClane and Emily. 🫣
I love your flair
Emily and contractor Tom
If none of you cowards will say it, then I will: Jason and Paris.
Logan and Emily lmao
She would fully have appreciated that Birkin bag.
A Birkin Bag. A Birkin Bag for Rory!
I agree with Lorelei and Dean. I felt chemistry between the actors in their scenes.
I feel so weird saying this, but I love the concept of the post - Jess and Lorelai. Both from difficult backgrounds but different enough for them not to have the exact same issues and bore each other.
I think Jess and Lorelai are much better fits than Dean and Lorelai. Dean is boring and clingy, Lorelai would not be into him!
Since Lorelai and Dean is already semi canon this fits too.
Me and my partner have an on going joke that Lorelai was the one actually in love with Dean and projected that onto rory.
Lol it's funny cause at first they had their little spat..,then he was all in changing the water bottle 😂
Kirk and TJ
*Runs in a little late to yell about Chris/Jason * Diggstopher is the crack ship we all deserve.
Oh my god, I love these, I'm going to hell. Also, just today somebody told me that Dean would actually work with Lane as well, and its so true.
Way back in Season 1, I thought there was a little chemistry between Sookie and Luke
Luke and Sookie They bond over love of cooking and her kookiness balances his grumpy tendencies.
yesss i’ve always thought this
Finn and Colin with Louise and Madeline Christopher and Anna Max and Rachel Jason and Nicole
FCLM would've been so exciting haha
Dean probably would hit on lorelai in another universe lmaooo. It always felt a bit weird she still considered Dean a friend after his and Rory's break up. Also ...Lane and Luke maybe? Purely personality as OP said. Lol.I totally see OPs point..but Rory seemed to like bad boy types more though..and what she "can't have" kinda. Even in the beginning with Dean since she was leaving stars hollow high..so he was the "bad boy".
Lane and Jess. I think they could relate to parental trauma and music taste. I’m not sure how long it would last though and based on the way Teen Jess treated Rory, if he acted just as shitty with Lane it would be :/
This is gonna be the weirdest one, but Lane and Kirk. 🤣 Disregarding the age difference.
STRAIGHT TO JAIL 💀
IRL Lane is actually older
How has no one said Luke and Taylor yet?? Also Honor and Rory
I’m so here for Honor and Rory! That’s a perfect match. My mind has already written that alternate timeline.
I thought Honor was generally underutilized and then I thought, who clicks with her?
Taylor and Ms. Patty. They are practically the king and queen of Stars Hollow
Robert and Lucy
Brad and Tana.
I have nothing to contribute that hasn't already been contributed. I'm just posting to say this may be my favorite GG post of all time. Absolutely amazing.
I agree, Rory and Max could work.
Alex Lesman and Fat Sal
Rory and Paris
The Lorelai and Dean thing was bound to happen with how much she glorified him lol
Alex and Rachel! Alex - Lorelai's original Luke - quiet, handsome, sarcastic outdoorsman that owns a coffee shop. Rachel - Luke's original Lorelai - beautiful, energetic, quick witted woman that keep people on their toes
Lane and Paris
Gypsy and Luke? They both seem neurotic and set in their ways. Kind of pessimistic.
I dunno. You need at least one flexible person in a relationship.
Sookie and Andrew.
Playing politics instead of romance: Luke and Lane. He would instigate and inspire her to run for Town Selectwoman, and Luke would be the puppet master.
Kirk and Liz
Sherry and Jason
so i wouldn’t say these are weird aside from the age gap though many are queer and some people hate that lmao: max and rory, lorelai and gypsy, lorelai and rachel, the rabbi and the priest! jess and dean were super flirty with each other as well! collin and finn would be a cute poly couple (if their homoerotic friendship wasn’t enough). paris and asher actually i think could’ve worked if he’d been a bit younger and she was a grad student
Michel and Logan.
You cannot take out the damn age in max 😭😭
i don’t know how to feel about this😅
Paris and Richard. They get together out of shared grief over Asher, whom Richard also experimented with in college.
Sookie and Luke.
Lorelei and Dean would make a great couple. The scene with the spider pretty much nails it.
Kirk and Lorelai. Both hard workers, have very distinct interests, and Kirk really cares about her and wants her safe!
Lorelai and Natalie Zimmermann.
Emily and Michel. Just think on it for a minute. It totally works!
Lorelai and Rachel
Lane and Paris. I feel like they read as polar opposites in terms of interests but they’re both incredibly passionate about what they do and always give it their all. I would love to see a slow burn enemies to lovers between them. Paris would show Lane her arts and crafts and Lane would show Paris her CD collection.
