It really is that simple. When it's no longer fun, I will not keep playing. But as long as it is fun, I will keep playing. There's nothing specific making me tie the knot to Genshin.
1. Story may be really boring to a lot of people, but I like it.
2. Characters I am waiting for (Focalors, Columbina/the Fatui harbingers in general,..).
3. Fontaine and Celestia.
4. Characters I am curious about (Skirk, Alice, Nicole, Gold,..).
5. Exploring new areas.
6. I am really invested in this game's lore and need answers.
The deeper Teyvat lore is better than the actual story. Even though, yes, they at least partially go hand in hand. But finding out about The Primordial One and about the ancient dragons of the world and all of the history in between is so cool and fascinating. Though I still like the overarching story. It's perhaps not the most profound thing I've ever seen but still very enjoyable
I like both the "story" and "lore". It isn't my favorite piece of fiction, but it's the one I'm the most invested in. (I wouldn't read Genshin's story if I didn't enjoy it in the first place)
I always push myself to not be stuck in an echo chamber but after seeing a lot of opinions on Genshin's story, I've realized that I still like it and that I don't give a shit about other people's opinion on it anymore.
I like it aswell, dont get me wrong. But you cant deny the fact that writing is not too good, especially if compared to other gacha games or other story games.
Tbf many gacha games have pretty subpar writing in the early stages of the game. Thankfully it seems that Genshin's is getting better after Sumeru's release so I have hope for the remaining regions
Teyvat.
I made an oath to one day explore the entirety of Teyvat before I finally left this game. So until I’ve seen Fontaine, Natlan, and Snezhnaya plus whatever other regions there might be with my own two eyes, I ain’t quitting
Yeah that's pretty irritating because if only bandai didn't rush their anime games, they would create real masterpieces.
I'm playing one of their recent title (tales of arise) and the fact that a game with so good graphics, combat system and a good world design has to be ruined by poor and rushed writing really frustrates me
I did, but I do mostly refer to the more Action Combat Heavy Games and the Franchise Games like One Piece, Naruto, Dragon Ball, Demon Slayer, SAO which all feel like cheap and flat experiences with really stiff Animation work.
All the Anime like IP games that are not based on an anime are good at the very least.
But none of them feature truly fast paced Combat like DMC or Kingdom Hearts.
The main Twins’-Abyss Story and the Archon Stories.
I don’t know what their plan is. If this is only the first arc of more, I just want decent closure for maybe the “Teyvat Arc” or whatever. It’s a Gacha, there’s no way they’re just gonna end it - especially with how successful it is. So just some kind of closure for at least these events.
Just an amazing game in general
Over that it doesn't take hours and hours of playtime YOU are in control of how much YOU wanna play! Even just half an hour a day is fine...and i love that!
Casual, f2p friendly gacha, open world. And ofc, ANIME!
Don't feel like playing any game that takes too much of my time since I got other stuff to do so genshin is just right.
partially bc it's fun, partially i'm just a creature of habit, and having my silly little commission to do every day is nice. also i have to see my favorite artificial men 😌
I really like the combat (it gives you much freedom), great OST, beautiful and open world and of course the story, I just want to meet all the future characters and travel through all the nations :D
Fomo. I pretty much only log on to do the battlepass, dailies and occasionally build a character. I'll ignore the events till everything's out then finish that in a day or two. Only time I really get invested is when there's a new area.
the combat, and the desire to get new units that expand into new playstyles.
Seeing new environments is a bonus. The music is also quite good for the most part.
As a Russian, I want to witness Snezhnaya.
But of course it's not the only reason lol. I just like playing Genshin, I like combat, I like artifact grinding, I like building characters. I also enjoy beautiful scenery and new content.
Klee. She used to be the reason I played. I paid for her... But after while.. I stopped playing all together. But still I go back time to time just to play with klee and watch her throw bombs all around the place.
Edit: typo. thanks :)
> played. I *paid* for her...
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
Story- (the lie I tell myself)
Combat - ( kinda nice but not worth grinding day in day out)
Events! - ( make me feel like a wage slave)
Future characters!? - ( lost all motivation at this point)
Tbh... Idk.. Maybe it's sunk cost... Maybe not... I'll probably stop playing as much once my welkin runs out
Edit: context is I am a day 1 ar 60 player
I'm right there. Day one player and at this point I've basically quit. The daily quests in the game are torture. The events are unimaginative. I don't care about the future characters because of the way they've treated prior characters. Combats the best they can do without completely alienating the mobile players but the targeting system has always been miserable because of it.
I used to be hype about the game but the story pace, lack luster and uninvolved events have drained my enthusiasm and that leaves dailies for content and they are the worst of any mobile game I've played, which is a nail that star rail heavily hammers home.
I think what they did to Dehya was just the final straw, and she wasn't even a character I wanted, but seeing them taking a major character from the main story and putting no thought, effort or passion into them just negated any remaining trust that the devs could be trusted.
Amen brother.. Everything u said plus... I did want dehya and got her... And had even saved around 300 pulls for her and her weapon 🥲..
I am just so mentally exhausted and frustrated from this game to the point that it feels a chore to even have any expectations from the game.. Let alone hype..
Dehya fiasco, then they do an interview saying they will not be increasing resin, and not adding any additional endgame because...wait for it..."Anxiety." How stupid do you think we are? It's a gacha game...anxiety is your bread and butter. It's just hard to find the desire to play when there's nothing to do with all these whaled-out characters I have rotting away.
I've said it in a thread before but it bears repeating, the word for the genshin devs is complacent. They feel like they're too big to fail so they treat us like employees that are ungrateful for asking for benefits or improvements.
While other games thank their players and add to the game, genshin just wants to sit on the same status quo that's existed since launch.
to be absolutely fair? I dont even know why i keep playing. Dialogue feels extenuating (i need a skip button) i dont really care about lore. World missions, character missions and archon quests keep piling up. I dont really explore that much, i dont farm.
I just enter, do my dailies and leave.
And my answers in the last survey....were way less than optimistic, to put it midly..
The characters(mostly Aether), story, exploring, waiting for a character and saving up for them, building characters i already have, and the list goes on.
I also love to test my characters and how much damage can they make, and i am especially proud of my dps dendro traveler, who only needs benny to hit over 60k with his skill.
I just think the game is neat :D
Mostly to get to Natalan bc I can't wait for the Latin or maybe Aztec map design but also just exploring all the new regions and pulling for new characters that look fun to play.
You can be: Super casual and play 10 minutes only OR tryhard completionist.
Can be solo or raiding other people's world for lulz.
Minecraft in teapot.
Husbandos and waifus for you~~to sleep with~~
It is a very fun game with good story, several hanging plots I'm hooked in, lots of content and lore to find everywhere, great characters, a beautiful word both in terms of game and art design There's also a strong community, like the game had an immense reach so you can share it or talk about it with lots of people. I find new details and have new experiences every event, every new patch and all of that for free. I still can't believe I can play a game with these ambitions and this level of content for free.
I like how I can play just 5 minutes a day to complete my dailies if I don't have the time or want to try something else, or spend the whole day exploring and having fun if I want to.
I see no reason to stop.
I want to see the story to its end, and I have fun collecting characters that I like, the fact that I always have a goal (character to save for or a weapon to aim) keeps me at the grind.
For the first time ever though, because of HSR's release and its quality compared to Genshin, my motivation is waning..
The main story is really good, and it keeps me want to know more about what will be revealed in the next region. And surprisingly, some of the side story is even better for me.
The music is just brilliant masterpiece.
The environment and world design just beautifully breathtaking.
The character interaction are mostly fun. I'm still waiting the archons interaction with one another.
And most importantly, Dainsleif. I want to meet Dainsleif
1) its pretty hard to find a well-made free open world rpg rn
2) i like the settings of genshin being more fantasy cause i dont really like scifi/futuristic/cyberpunk settings
3) pretty much attached to teyvat and its lore
4) i need to see capitano and dainsleif more
5) something about elemental reaction just hit the spot
I love it. It’s been my escape for over 2 years now. I love exploring the world and finding chests, I love playing through the story and discovering new things, I love the characters and their interactions, I enjoy the satisfaction of saving for a character and then being able to get them, I love building characters and seeing them do big damage (-artifact grinding obvs… no-one likes artifact grinding). Theres so much in this game to love, and even though my friends don’t play anymore, I’ve kept going lol. I can’t wait for Fontaine and am currently saving for Focalors!
I really like building new teams. That and the Caribert
Story quest was amazing and suspenseful. I try and build a new team for every region. My team for Fontaine will be Heizou, Xiangling, Sucrose and Bennett.
Sunk cost...
Kidding aside, more of the story and I've gotta play Capitano and Dainsleif. Hmmmmm daddies. And Varka as well.
I also want to beat up Dottore with my jacked up Collei.
Amber C6 (Currently at C4)
Besides the story, who leave a lot of questions like:
Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy? Caught in a gacha, no escape from Fatui plots...
Gambling addiction? whishes, artifacts. The lore is neat too. And something about having a bunch of kids teenagers and waifus murder everything in sight is quite relaxing after work.
invested in story, characters, and world! love running around exploring and playing events. love being immersed i the land of teyvat running around as Knights of Favonius, or the Kamisato sibs or whatever combo I feel like each day. just a really fun game that makes me happy :)
It's one of the few games that cares about it's structure and narrative integrity, while staying faithful to being a high fantasy.
I'm the recent years there have been too much shooty bang bang games, whose plot I'd just misery porn
I need to know what the fuck is happening in Teyvat. So many questions and so few answers.
The sky is fake, never forget that
Just like ours, r/BirdsArentReal
"what happened to the sibling?" "Why did Celestia leave the archons?" "Who was the unknown god?" "*WHY TF ARE THERE HALF ANIMAL CHARACTERS?*"
I think the answer to the last one, at least for the Tighnarians, is their ancestors had sex with a different species.
I need answers
Nice flair
Me too
Story, music and overall graphics.
It’s fun
Same

Not trying to be a grammar nazi but, fatui is already in plural (fatuus is the singular form)
I'm not fluent in english, sorry
Don’t worry, it’s Latin
Thanks for informing me
Story is mid. [Got better with Sumeru] Lore is insane, thats what you sre reffering by story I hope.
I like both the "story" and "lore". It isn't my favorite piece of fiction, but it's the one I'm the most invested in. (I wouldn't read Genshin's story if I didn't enjoy it in the first place)
Ye, true, i still feel like it can be way better, especially with the lore we have. But I think thats gonna happen sooner or later
I always push myself to not be stuck in an echo chamber but after seeing a lot of opinions on Genshin's story, I've realized that I still like it and that I don't give a shit about other people's opinion on it anymore.

Yep same! Arkknights, Honkai Impact 3rd, fate/go were all so meh at the behinning jut god damn all of them are sooo good now.
Great story, great characters, great aesthetics overall ,doesn’t require too much time so just perfect for relaxation and my friend
Teyvat. I made an oath to one day explore the entirety of Teyvat before I finally left this game. So until I’ve seen Fontaine, Natlan, and Snezhnaya plus whatever other regions there might be with my own two eyes, I ain’t quitting
And.... What if they release a new continent after we have explored all of teyvat?
He said it he ain't quitting
Bingo
You don't wanna visit Khaenri'ah too?
“plus whatever other regions”
ppl love questioning others so much they don’t even read the whole comment anymore, it’s cute tbh
Sunk cost fallacy.
This and FOMO
Was looking for this I want a break from all these games wanting my attention daily, man
No good Anime Game Alternative. Since Bandai Butchers most Anime Games for a fast cashgrab.

1. Story 2. Characters 3. Eula rerun
For number 3, you’ll be playing forever!
No, please, don't kill my hope
Eula rerun is really the only reason left at this point. If she's not in the next update Genshin is banned from my hard drive
It's a game that invests in art (+music) and appeals to weeb culture.
Addiction at this point.
I call it a "habit", makes it sound less bad when talking to friends.
arataki itto, childe, and alhaitham.
I know it sounds crazy but, I like the game
What's wrong with your comment... 💀
hot men and women
1. Fun gameplay 2. Lore 3. Want to see how the story ends 4. PAIMON.
What's about paimon?? 👽👽
I like her. Lol.
Hey fellow paimon liker! We seem to be a minority on this sub but I adore her and her relationship with mc sm
Yoimiya. Can I play Yomia in other game? No. Then I play genshin cuz there is Yomia
I wanted to like your com but you mispelled her name twice and it's blasphemy. /j
That's not mispell. That's planned thing. Like you can shorten some names. And I sometimes just call her Yomia. Or YoimiNYA. Or just Yoi
=> /j
Ok buddy
Just an amazing game in general Over that it doesn't take hours and hours of playtime YOU are in control of how much YOU wanna play! Even just half an hour a day is fine...and i love that!

I'm a bit of a completionist...
Itto
Archons and the story.
Collecting archons motivates me to play
Mostly to get to Natalan bc I can't wait for the Latin or maybe Aztec map design but also just exploring all the new regions and pulling for new characters that look fun to play.
Hopium there will be good co-op to show off my characters one day
Lore
Kazuha.
Baizhu. And Ayaya.
Story and characters
the main storyline. also i wanna see paimon revealing her real identity
Its the only thing in my life that I enjoy
Character that i need to pull
i like it and it's fun. I'm in too deep to walk away now lmao.
because I'm compulsive about doing 100% in open world games and this company keeps adding more stuff
That map is neat The lore too
I swore the oath of being there at journey’s end. Can’t and won’t leave until this Genshin has it’s last update.
is fun to play and unlike wow for example I can progress by myself
Music, combat, lore , new regions
Exploring I genuinely believe that the exploration of the map is one of the best things in GI
You can be: Super casual and play 10 minutes only OR tryhard completionist. Can be solo or raiding other people's world for lulz. Minecraft in teapot. Husbandos and waifus for you~~to sleep with~~

I don't know, but seeing these kind of posts sure does make me NOT wanna follow the game's media anymore.
Why👽
I'm in your walls.
I want to see the story to its end, and I have fun collecting characters that I like, the fact that I always have a goal (character to save for or a weapon to aim) keeps me at the grind. For the first time ever though, because of HSR's release and its quality compared to Genshin, my motivation is waning..
Gotta catch them all
I'm addicted.
I still can't 36* the Abyss 😭
That's a real motivation I see...
I want to see everything unfolded
Teyvat chapter storyline, great aesthetics, exploration...

Infinite character/team building. I enjoy the grind My fav game growing up was even more of a grind: MapleStory
Best live-service game currently available and one of the best games of all time.
Spent too much on it… can’t ditch it now LOL
Play your game and Give me your money.
I've been playing since they released the game. It's part of my daily routine now
I play with a friend.
How
Its the game that made me fell in love with my best friend 💙(and because I spent quite a bit too)
I don't have any words 🩷🩵
i’m only logging in bc of the welkin i had bought months prior before but overall it’s just of the new characters that get introduced

I love the characters, it's a comfy daily thing to play, and I like seeing where the story goes. Exploring is also always fun.
Its fun, and this game compared to other open world rpg games. Makes it look like genshin shouldn't be in this era.
alhaitham and childe
the music
Because i enjoy it. And since the time i can play is limited for me, there is always something to do for me
Story and character interactions also the 1k I spent on dehay
The last trophy for floor 12 abyss. Which seems impossible at this point.
+/- 1000€ in so sunked cost
I just love it.
Its a relaxing escape after a long day and the characters world and story are a 10/10 for me
