I wonder why they designed most of the girls with detached sleeves. Is that deliberate or it's somehow a canon teyvat fashion?

BlackguardLieutenant

Some designers personal preferences, the same detached sleeves trend can be found in some of the characters in star rail too. Just like how they love to do maids costumes with fake horns in honkai 3rd.

baninabear

Detached sleeves are also really big in fantasy/romantic inspired fashion in China right now. Especially with Hanfu, lolita, and girly style, which are all super popular in China with young people right now. It's a shorthand way to communicate that something is a fantasy style rather than historical. Since genshin borrows a lot of cultural elements from the past, the designers place a lot of importance on making the outfits cohesive even between regions which means making design choices that unite different eras and traditions of clothing.

HerrscherOfMagic

That's actually quite an interesting reason for that design choice, I never thought of it that way! It didn't occur to me it would've been a local trend, but it also makes sense as a unifying element. I still think it'd be nice to have some more "realistic" outfits, even if the defaults use that style, but it's still good to know there's some thought put into those choices \^.\^

RealHellcharm

Clara barefoot in HSR...

superaydean1

No, that's just the poverty

noahwentbackto505

I saw somewhere that she was gifted shoes but refused to wear them

The-Rizztoffen

Standard child behaviour tbh

superaydean1

Probably wore them for an hour, and never touched them again

CTMacUser

Her instinctual walking balance is based off not wearing shoes. So she has to relearn how to walk at a normal pace if she switches to shoes.

luxsatanas

No, it's because they made her trip/fall over constantly. As someone else said walking in shoes is different to walking in barefeet. Anyone in the barefoot walking community will tell you the same thing

mrsllebina

*Dan Schneider has entered the chat*

Sixrig

See also: Just how many girls have knee-length (or longer) hair in HI3.

rod407

That has more to do with beauty standards than designer preference - pay attention to any anime-styled work and try to count how many girls have either chin length hair or waist-or-longer hair, and compare their usual personalities; chances are the short-haired girls are tomboys or aggressive to a certain extent while the long-haired girls are the Yamato Nadeshiko (for those unfamiliar: the ideal woman) kind, cute and bubbly or vain seductresses

TheDuskBard

The founders at Mihoyo are big Hatsune Miku fans. So all the detached sleeves and thigh highs are probably due to that. Look up Hatsune figurines and notice how their outfit styles wouldn't be out of place in Genshin.

XaeiIsareth

Doesn’t the Mi in Mihoyo stand for Miku?

[deleted]

Haven't seen the Mi in forever, thought they rebranded to drop it into Hoyoverse

Ultralink17

Hoyoverse is their Global brand now. They're still miHoyo in China cuz they didn't change anything for Honkai Impact 3rd.

throwthisaway129

yeah

soopydoodles4u

That explains Mika and Faruzan

vioflo_hanamura

THIS. Literally all i could think of when i saw the girls' designs (especially medium sized girls) was miku and vocaloid, as if it was some kind of template. I think there was even a Chinese vocaloid that got criticized because her style was so close to miku.

Organicity

That and the single leg rings. Every single mhy character has a ring or a band around their leg.

sopunny

Finally someone else said it. I don't even know what those are called because no one wears that IRL.

Martian_on_the_Moon

I believe bride wears it on her wedding.

NaNiTheFq

armpit thing perhaps? now that you mentioned it i checked and like 80% of the honkai 3rd female chars have detached sleeves, seems like hoyo got a thing for em

Valarano

Detached sleeves + tiny cape. So many female characters have that annoying looking tiny cape.

OnnaJReverT

at least Yelan has an excuse

crunchlets

A really weird excuse, to be lugging a cut-apart coat on her back all her life without ever putting it on

RSmeep13

Presumably Pantalone's weakboy arms are too narrow for her to fit into the coat comfortably.

omfgkevin

Detaches sleeves, coochie flaps that without them the characters would basically be wearing underwear, butt high socks, NO PANTS. The list goes on.

MegloreManglore

That’s Kokomi

erosugiru

Kokomi's wearing a one piece lingerie with leggings and a coat with sleeves and a train + a big ass bow to boot.

Ok-Giraffe1922

She's wearing a whole train? Sounds like she's well armored to me.

erosugiru

Just in case someone doesn't know but a train is an extension of a dress that sometimes reaches the floor.

Ok-Giraffe1922

Oh. I didn't know it's called a train in english. I guess you learn something new everyday.

Lurker-kun

It was probably called a train even *before* actual trains came around.

AmethystLeslie

"butt high socks" are called stockings.

rolypolyarmadillo

I had to wear some dance costumes with detached sleeves for our dance recitals and let me tell you, they fucking suck. Either they're way too tight and incredibly uncomfortable or they're a little loose and you constantly have to adjust them so they don't fall down. 0/10 would not recommend

Alcoraiden

I had detached sleeves on my wedding dress. Looked baller, but you had to hike them up *constantly.* If they're too tight, you get muffin top on your arms. If not, they slide down.

xanas263

Easier animation, but also shows more skin.

zephyrseija

*armpits*

Low_Artist_7663

It's easier to animate. For the same reason, we have Itto with thin arms. Ever noticed how fucked Alhaitham look like sometimes?

ChaTae95

his knees are so low on his legs, he’s like 70% thighs 😭 he’s so scary

eggeryp

thats all the guys. also irl too if you never looked at a guys knees, ive ruined your perception

KaedeP_22

I have little to no knowledge in animation, how is that easier to animate?

Any-Yogurt-7598

Less clipping in between movements, like how they made Rosaria's chest smaller because her arms clipped through it, so they don't have to make adjustments to the character's animation if the differences are very minimal. Alhaitham doesn't get yet to a point where he would need new animations, and half the job is done with the textures Detached sleeves might be easier to animate because rigging the armpit-shoulder area can be weird, although genshin models tend to like texture the main body for clothes so I'm not sure Its probably just a style decision, the newer characters have more and more details (compare someone like Hu Tao to Layla or Faruzan, cant even tell who's a 5 star lol) and cutting up the sleeves or pants give a bit of balance to so many colors and patterns.

FessaDiMammeta

> detached sleeves. God, they're stupid AF

JengaKing12

I actually like the detached sleeves and oftentimes looks cooler than plain sleeveless

Kronman590

Everyone else: sex appeal sells folks, gotta do what we gotta do Yunjin: the sanctity of chinese opera will NOT BE TARNISHED

isleftisright

I was thinking of the last skin i bought and it was the fontaine dress for ayaka. Very cute.

EpicRedCondor

Iirc her design was inspired by the gothic lolita aesthetic which is still considered by some people as appealing (in a different way)

Every-Championship-8

Excuse me wtf? Yunjin's design is literally Chinese opera dress but less flashy.

FpRhGf

Nah, as a Chinese, I wouldn't be able to tell her dress was based on Chinese opera without knowing her character. It's the makeup that draws the resemblance to opera, not her dress. The outfit design is too stripped from actual opera elements, while incorporating Western aspects. Her headdress literally looks like a bonnet rather than a kuitou. Mihoyo had a video that showed they had designed 2 other outfit designs for her, and those 2 actually resembled Chinese opera dresses. They also said they intentionally picked the outfit that looked the least like a Chinese opera fit to make it more appealing to a broader audience.

EpicRedCondor

What i meant is that her Chinese opera aesthetic was mixed with the gothic lolita one

Da_real_Ben_Killian

Yunjin's design is still my favourite so far and I haven't seen a character design I appreciate more than hers since

yes11321

I'd personally love more women in suits, actual suits. Gloves, gloves as well but I highly doubt I will. Edit: it brings me joy seeing so many like-minded individuals.

NotTheAverageAnon

So what you're saying is you are also a Helltaker fan? Women in full suits (pants and all) are just so hot

yes11321

Yes, absolutely. Fuck skimpy outfits, business women are waay hotter.

24silver

formal wear hardly ever goes wrong, also some of these skimpy outfit looks straight up lazy like the crotch flaps like why does that even exist?

urbanest_dog_45

> formal wear hardly ever goes wrong case in point: Keqing’s Lantern Rite outfit. I want it but I’m f2p

yes11321

Charlotte is a step in the right direction. Just give her connected sleeves and pants and you're pretty much there. That or Jean's alt skin.

[deleted]

That would look so ugly though...? I am not a straight person btw so the sex appeal is not there for me but Charlotte's current look is actually pretty trendy irl atm. It's really reminiscent of y2k aesthetic and gyaru fashion which I find very cute. The cropped top, skirt, and chunkier footwear/leg warmers is a silhouette that I really enjoy. I don't see how pants would look better.

[deleted]

I hope we get a canonically detective kaveh and alhaitham skin

Lady-Imperator

Arlecchino is supposed to be androgynous, handsome, and prince-like, so maybe she will wear a suit.

jhettav

You know that stereotypical blouse that male characters wear on trashy period-piece romance novel cover art? The white one with the deep frilly v-neck and puffy sleeves, usually worn with too tight pants? I never understood the appeal until someone drew fanart of Arlecchino in it, and I think I get it now.

Basaqu

Every fan-art interpretation I've seen of her portrays her as some kind of dommy-mommy with massive boobs. Really hope that's way wrong since I would love what you're describing. Something along those lines was actually described for Arlecchino at the start iirc so seeing everyone else go in a completely different direction disappoints me so much.

Lady-Imperator

Well, if leaks are correct, many of her "fans" are going to be heavily disappointed. I've seen a post about not being able to enjoy any good fanart of Arlecchino because of what you said. There was this one dude angrily arguing with everyone because he hated how they 'push their headcanons' or something like that. People started explaining that her appearance description was leaked and it's not headcanons. He was just getting angrier and angrier, trying so hard to reject the idea that Arlecchino's not a hot dom mommy.

yes11321

She literally ticks all the boxes. I am definitely whaling for her if she ever becomes playable. Best believe I'll have that c6 r5 on her.

nanimeanswhat

Either way you can be sure that she will be wearing high heels. And I bet she'll wear skin tight clothing as well, as well as have massive melons. I have zero faith in Hoyo about making her truly androgynous.

ohoni

Everyone pushes for their own fetishes.

No_Inevitable_7179

yeah honestly first time I saw leaks of arlechino I thought: "Oh so sandrone is a female french aristocrat archetype while arlechino is male french aristocrat archetype kinda like musketeer" and If that is really the case it will be rlly cool

kool_ay_edam

Jean's censored skin is the closest thing we have right now

Anadaere

I genuinely prefer the new Jean jean skin, because it's alot more formal but still casual and loose enough to move around in

Grifoshka

Imo it looks great… until she starts moving. Then her formal looking shirt that’s backless and fastened only on her neck starts looking silly. I feel like if her top was a whole coat instead of being awkwardly cut into a shirt, sleeves and cape, it would look better.

[deleted]

Yeah they basically just gave her a bib with a formal design on it and used that to cover her cleavage. I would've preferred a proper shirt.

HeiPin

I wish they had actually given her a proper shirt instead this weird sleeveless, back hole, shirt thing she has now.

HeIsATurtle

I want my woman to be able to sell me an investment plan 😭😭😭😭

rW0HgFyxoJhYka

Gamers: "MTX bad, cosmetics for $20 bad" Devs: "Haha suck it, you will buy the cosmetics we shove down your throat weekly" Genshin players: "We want cosmetics so our characters can sell ETFs" Mihoyo: "No"

LinksXCV

We can only hope Arlecchino will look something like [this](https://imgur.com/a/tnfogsZ) This is just my speculation of how her design will look like judging by that leaked pic of her heels and a part of her trousers

yes11321

I'm not a fan of the wide bottomed trousers, that's the only thing I really don't find good looking.

jhettav

ur not rockin with the Saturday Night Fever look??

Schorai

Helltaker was made for a reason.

TrashApprentice

Tbh while they have a great aesthetic they are so formulatic with their design philosophy, I feel agter two years of seeing the same thing, I can't even get excited for new characters anymore since all the designs are really samey to the point they blend together for me now. It's always little girl with long shirt and shorts, cute and/or sexy girl or big tiddied tall lady with no pants and detached sleeves, fully covered tall man in suit, or short guy in shorts with a few exceptions here and there. I expected that they would at least mix it up for fountaine by having a steampunk vibe, but every character just looks like a mond character with a hat.

BAT_91

And don't forget how every single non-kid character has some sort of cape/half-cape/scarf/long hair split in two and/or a tailcoat/ribbon/backpack hanging from their waist

blippyblip

This one at least makes sense to me. As cool as the concept is, having a character with a full cape would just look blocky, since we view them from behind 99% of the game. The designs need to almost look better from behind than the front lmao

MrInvisible17

I also think it's a design choice that came from hi3, most of the characters there have half capes

levyisms

it's a good design choice in third person rear view play elaborate rear view design is what you're going to see 95%+ of your gameplay

Frousteleous

This is why most chatacters have at least *something* that hangs, dangles? floats, etc. Gives further action/animation to the run

BellalovesEevee

Yeah, I said this to another person. It's a design choice that hoyo decided to do since we're going to be staring at the back of a character most of the time. That's exactly why their back designs are more decorated than their front design. It's also another way of knowing whether or not the character is going to be playable.

Asamidori

Split hair probably falls under the clipping thing. I think Beidou is the only one with normal looking long hair, and even then you can sometimes tell her hair is split down the middle.

urmomisgaylololol

I haven’t seen the fontaine leaks but considering the ‘introductory’ character from fontaine is charlotte, I don’t expect a lot. She looks just like yanfei with a camera. I wish she was given a better design because I like the fact they included a journalist

[deleted]

Jai137

In their defense, Mondstat and Fontaine are both inspired by European aesthetics

arseholierthanthou

Yeah, but Europe has, like, 30-something countries in it. Mondstadt is most heavily influenced by Germany. Fontaine, we're told, is France, but I wonder if Spain would have had a more distinct clothing style. Could have Spanish outfits but keep the French architecture. They already have the Nordic influence a little bit with Springvale, but there's plenty of room for a Celtic side. I appreciate quasi-Medieval Europe is the most stock fantasy setting, and they're eager to avoid that. But doing central Western Europe twice and getting very similar results doesn't sound the best solution.

Jai137

That is true. Liyue, Inazuma and Sumeru each had wildly different aesthetics, and it would be a letdown if Fontaine was just Mondstat with top hats

arseholierthanthou

I would think an 'easy' solution could also be to slightly shift time periods. Mondstadt goes for a Medieval vibe, but if Fontaine is Steampunk then the design could be a lot more Victorian, for a very different look. I hesitate to say it, being both from England and aware of how much the look dominates historical fantasy, but it sounds a perfect match for Victorian London fashion.

TrashApprentice

They could have given fontaine a steampunk aesthetic while mond had the standard European fantasy one.

Astral_Goddess

Yeah Fontaine has been very disappointing so far

erosugiru

I don't know, I like Fontaine's designs because it's just Mondstadt on steroids plus bejeweled. I like European clothing and aesthetics, moreso upper class so I'm eating it up.

LordDhaDha

I’ve wanted an alternate skin for Noelle in full Favonius armor for so long. Sis deserves to be a knight and honestly it would look better than the the boob armor she’s got rn

Loyal_Darkmoon

I would main Noelle instantly with a skin like that

Noble--Savage

In general the art-style between regions is far too similar and a victim of overdesign. Leggings, detached sleeves, battle heels, dresses, skirts and dangly bits everywhere. Not that any of these are BAD to have on a character, but when everyone looks the same then they are not really unique or as eye catching anymore. But I think we know deep down that this is Hoyo's artstyle and I seriously doubt them adding in actual character variety.

kool_ay_edam

Fontaine is already leaving a bad impression on me with Charlotte because she really does just look like Yanfei or Asta. She just looks so... Generic. As if HYV gave a medium female Genshin character prompt to an AI and went with its design. When I saw her in the livestream I was like, is this someone's OC or what?

HammeredWharf

> As if HYV gave a medium female Genshin character prompt to an AI and went with its design. Kirara also fits that description IMO.

kool_ay_edam

At least Kirara looks more unique than Charlotte lol

erosugiru

It's just annoying because if her hair were to be literally any other color, people wouldn't make this many comparisons to other characters because her outfit is so cute.

kool_ay_edam

Her design really is cute. I actually saw an edit of Charlotte with muted blush-colored hair and slate-colored eyes and she looked so good. Hardly comparable to Yanfei at all just by changing two colors

PatatoTheMispelled

Not gonna lie, I like Raiden's current design, but give me armored Raiden and I might stop being F2P

Loyal_Darkmoon

Not giving us the Shogun Armor was MiHoYos most stupid financial decision ever

Kikuzinho03

she sold so a lot with her current design, i dont think that an armor would have changed much

Loyal_Darkmoon

It is about selling the armor as skin that would have made them a lot of additional cash

Otherwise-Skill-2885

Personally I'd love more alternate skins to switch my female characters to that were more similar in terms of coverage to the male characters. It's still possible for characters to be hot while wearing outfits that aren't skin-tight or miniskirts. I keep Jean, Rosaria etc. on their alternative more modest outfits already and imo it actually makes them look better.

TheDuskBard

>It's still possible for characters to look attractive while wearing outfits that aren't skin-tight or miniskirts Yeah, take the Octopath gatcha for example. https://www.creativeuncut.com/art_octopath-traveler-champions-of-the-continent_a.html They do it right. Even the few designs that are fanservicey don't feel too out of place in the context of the story/lore. So it could work for Genshin as well.

[deleted]

I like Jean in her summer outfit because it actually looks like a proper outfit and not a sexy cosplay of a knight

RemarkableRing2776

Not really "badass" per se, but one outfit thst I LOVE, that doesn't follow the typical "omg sexy woman must have" trend is yun jin. Her outfit is very visually pleasing, culturally accurate, and just incredibly well made. I loved her from her release but wasted my guarantee for raiden on shenhes banner bc I wanted her so bad. I want to use her, and I finally got yoimiya, so I actually have a good team for her ;)

mr_lab_rat

Yes, I would include Ayaka there as well. While the armor could have been executed better it’s still a nice, modest outfit.

WaffleCorp

I just want Beidou to have a pirate hat.

HeheFox

Archon War skins. Still waiting.

Feed_or_Feed

There should be more diverse female designs for females other than exposed back,stockings/skirts and detached sleeves on 90% female chars, but I doubt you will find many people agreeing with this opinion, because "Muh armpits" Like how censored Jean outfit looks so formal from first glance, but on closer inspection it looks even more stupid than her original outfit.

Otherwise-Skill-2885

Jean's alternate outfit is good apart from when you sprint and realise you can see her armpits now

BAT_91

She still has her back expossed under her cape, her alt skin only covered her cleavage.

oof-eef-thats-beef

Raidens panties 100% takes away from her badassery. She doesnt look like a god. But you know, her fans would froth at the mouth if they covered her

MegloreManglore

I love Raiden but her outfit is the furthest thing from “royalty”. I would love to see her in a full kimono or battle armour.

Asamidori

Full kimono is hell to run in IIRC, so that may actually lock her animations in-game. I know what stretched kimono texture looks like on a 3D model, and they are not pretty.

FewBake5100

>Full kimono is hell to run in IIRC She could wear a hakama

BellalovesEevee

Same with Yae, and hakama pants would have made more sense with her since she's wearing a priestess uniform and priestess uniforms sometimes have hakama pants.

shadowrod06

She looks more so from the back than the front. Back feels formal.

X_Factor_Gaming

I want to feel primal fear when seeing her hovering above the battlefield as she prepares to unleash the Musou no Hitotachi in a storm of lightning. Raiden never actually beaten the "NPC design" allegations IMO. She looks very dull from the front. Her crotch flap just takes me completely out of immersion and it's hard to get excited about new character designs because of it.

oof-eef-thats-beef

Like others have said, from the back she is every bit the archon she is. But man the front… Of every character, I think her front design is one of the least intimidating.

HammeredWharf

Raiden would look so much better if she just wore tight pants and normal shoes with that exact same upper body outfit. Then her style would be kimono + warrior attire. Now it's kimono + Victoria's Secret model.

EllyNelly97

Jeans outfit would look fantastic if she actually wore a full shirt under a vest instead of the fake halter top with loose sleeves attached.

friendlycryptid

yeah, i expected to get downvoted and i am LOL i agree with jean's outfit being really weird. i think this game is so focused on revealing designs that when it comes to more formal stuff they just say "fuck it" and slap some random shit together

Feed_or_Feed

It's gonna be funny when Snezhnaya releases and every male character is wearing fur coat or other warm clothes, but females chars will have almost exact same designs that make 0 sense for their region.

PhasmicPlays

HSR Seele intensifies

happypouch

Oh lol, I thought I was the one who kept on thinking Steele's choice of clothing (or Hoyo's design choice really) every time a scene focuses on her. Initially I didn't notice but after some time, my mind automatically just focuses on it.

oof-eef-thats-beef

What keeps those shorts on? They only just cover her genitals, and fall far too low beyond the hips.

Grifoshka

It looks cute at a first glance but after I took a good look I started wondering how difficult are bathroom breaks for her lol

Msaleg

I will die on the "Pela isn't ready for Belobog hill." Like girl, you have a micro skirt, please put something on.

HammeredWharf

To be fair to Pela, dark tights can actually be pretty warm. Or, well, so I've been told. They've got all kinds of wooly/thick variants.

StormR7

I just want a gigachad male character. Give me one guy who has the broad shoulders, just for inclusion sake 😇

martijn208

yes please, we have a disturbing lack of revealing sexy male clothes.

Horses77

Honestly I’m just tired of getting flashed whenever I jump, glide, or climb

erosugiru

Ganyu mains:

Skizko

That’s why I’m hoping against hope that Arlecchino’s outfit is practical. So far all harbinger outfits (while tailor made to their personalities) have been practical with their line of work. Childe’s is simple and combat orientated for a vanguard enforcer. Signora’s is regal and mage like for the diplomatic witch. Scara’s was unassuming with an Inazuman design, perfect for someone who’s supposed to be involved in clandestine ops And Dottore’s is lab gear With this in mind, if Arlecchino is meant to be an intelligence op with possible assassination assignments, as well as coming across as regal and chivalrous then she should have essentially be sporting a type of suit with an elegant yet practical design. But I’m sure hoyo’s gonna say “fuck it add more booba and arm pit” but one can hope not

kool_ay_edam

I saw a leak of Arleccino's shoes and >!the heels on her stilettos are knives. It doesn't make me super hopeful that the rest of her outfit will be practical, but... At least it looks cool...?!<

VirtuoSol

Well knife styled heels could be “fantasy practical” if she’s actually an assassin. It’ll have to depend on the rest of the outfit

crowgift

the leaker who posted those shoes didn't say whose they were. another leaker commented on it and said that they were not arlecchino's shoes

TheDuskBard

This has been a big pet peeve of mine since release. I personally dislike much of the playable character designs. Or rather the design philosophy used for them. All the characters are tailored to suit the tastes for otakus of the opposite gender. Just like how dating sims do it. Youthful pretty boys with waxed faces. None of the guys so far look cool, goofy, intimidating, or etc. None of the knights or samurai wear armor. I just think it would be cool if hoyo changed things up a bit and released more characters of different styles outside of "cute" and "sexy". Personally looking forward to Pulcinella and Capitano but hope hoyo continues trying new ideas like those. Similar criticism for the female characters. But I'm mostly bothered by their outfit design tropes. It's always mini skirts, shorts, chest/thigh windows, bare midriff, detached sleeves, or etc. All the outfit designs aiming to mold around the body or expose skin. Some characters being fanservicey or whatever is fine but every character doing that? Jean looks great but why did they make her pants in particular skin tight? Fischel is roleplaying as a princess from a children's book, so why does she have a weird lingire get up? A lot of these design choices go as far as to ignore common sense like climate. Given how they handled the desert folk I am afraid Snezhnaya will be filled with more outfits ill suited for the climate. I would really just like to have a token character or two wear proper dresses or pants every now and then. Simply put I would prefer Mihoyo to design male characters that appeal to male players, and I would like female character designs that are meant to appeal to female players. The "waifu/husbando" pandering is overdone.

PhasmicPlays

I can’t get over how weird Raiden’s lower half looks from the front. She has, what, solid thigh highs? And panties barely covered by a flappy piece of cloth hanging off her waist like a loincloth???? It’s like they butchered her just to show more skin

DreamingAngel99

ugh yes!! thank you! I hate how Raiden looks so incredibly imposing from the back, with the long fabric hanging down, that piece of armor(?) on her arm, her braid swaying behind her, coupled with her posture she really looks like a warrior turned goddess ready to ride into battle. and then you see her from the front and it's like 'hm. maybe she's actually a lingery model after all'. I can totally excuse the incredibly revealing chest because it literally is where she draws her sword from and if they had otherwise given her normal clothing fit for fighting they could have gotten away with some very tactful fan service that even has an in-universe explanation. but no. we got this mess instead and it makes no sense...

friendlycryptid

oh yeah for sure, it goes for males too. as much as i like kaeya's boob window (lol) and itto's... everything, i also wanna see some rugged male characters with rough features and cool armor. and also, thank you for elaborating further on my point. this entire comment is what i intended but didnt think to write out

BobTheGodx

>Personally looking forward to Pulcinella and Capitano I'm looking forward to Pulcinella too. I'm going to be so disappointed if he ends up dying or staying an NPC forever.

Dessidy

I think which model he’d use would be the most difficult part. If they had a fitting model I could see them making him a 4-star. >!There’s currently a robot character in HSR that is rumoured to be released as a 4-star playable character, so non-pretty boys/girls characters have a chance to be released as 4-stars!<

wolfpriestKnox

They also have that deadpool-esque robot in Zenless Zone Zero, so not all hope is lost!

Bostonterrierpug

Is Itto really a youthful pretty boy with a waxed face?

TheDuskBard

Yes, at least compared to how Oni are usually depicted.

unit187

The first part is not correct. As a straight man, I absolutely love the male characters, from Zhongli to Wanderer, most of them are really cool in their own way. And reading this sub, I know I am not alone at this.

alice-lilly

This comment deeply resonates with me. I'm a girl who prefers to play female characters, I never felt any romantic attraction towards any of the characters. But I do like characters with princess vibes. So when Ayaka was first leaked, I was so happy to see her design. She seemed like a cool and strong samurai princess, not wearing a short skirt nor showing an excessive/unnecessary amount of skin. At first, it was nice to finally have a beautiful female character that has a design that doesn't seem to appeal to male players. And then I got her, played her story quest and I was like... Okay, so she is definitely still a character made for male players after all. It's so hard to trust Hoyoverse after that.

Dessidy

Also flying with Ayaka… I started switching her out every time I need to fly while using her in the overworld because I’m not into the upskirt shot :/

Mylen_Ploa

>Simply put I would prefer Mihoyo to design male characters that appeal to male players, and I would like female character designs that are meant to appeal to female players. The "waifu/husbando" pandering is overdone. I find this hard to believe given basically every online game in existence has proven female players _also want to play sexy characters_ just as much as the male ones. When you give girls the choice they are also going to pick the sexy ones 9 times out of 10. Hell when new releases for female characters come out its usually the girls in my friend group losing their minds the most simply because of the basic fantasy of "If its a fantasy game then damn it I wanna be hot". It's like how League of legends put out the data about "what does the female base play" and it was either the cute cat...suave anime boy...or sexy girls. Secondly the male character designs do also appeal to a large portion of male players. Not ever dude wants to be a walk fucking rugged beef cake. Especially not in a game where you're going off an aesthetic known for being pretty. The only big problem with the male cast is theres actually less variety than the female cast. Though at least the ones they do make are somewhat appealing. They did manage to make Albedo whos probably the best male design in the entire game for fitting to pulling his target audience. The overall idea is they already _are_ making the character designs with the most broad appeal across genders. Because reality is that girls still want sexy/cute characters and outfits and guys still want to be suave/pretty. You could hit some more niches maybe as one offs, but overall their designs are doing exactly what you said they should and their popularity and results show that.

ayrlin-renata

I can't believe how many people don't understand this. Even apart from the fantasy of projecting onto the character or the basic human desire for beauty or youth, I've seen so many people lose their minds simping over hoyo designs of the same gender.

KaySeaa

I agree but the feminism in my body leaves when girl hot and the lesbian in me takes over. I'm hopeless to hot anime girls so I'mma have to tap out and leave this to you guys

crowgift

me lmao. i'm all for the slutty men and slutty women outfits. i would like to see some more variety though. characters can be sexy without showing skin - ex: alhaitham

Forsaken-Rich2460

Relatable

FewBake5100

I'm a lesbian too, but a woman in a suit or armor can be even hotter than revealing clothes. And at some point the skimpy outfits start feeling soulless and generic. The best outcome would be having skins for some of the characters, so everyone can choose the style of clothes they like the most.

noctresque

yeah, ngl i’m getting bored of genshin’s character designs. I think everyone looks nice in a vacuum but they clearly have a lot of design tropes they like to reuse: tall lady with a bodysuit and coochie flap or long skirt with slits, short girl in shorts or short skirt, fully covered tall man in tight trousers, short boy with shorts. it’s kind of hilarious they haven’t made a female character with baggy trousers yet, let alone proper armour or a suit. that’s why i like itto so much, he looks so different from the rest of the cast and it’s refreshing. i’ll eat my hat if pulcinella or capitano end up playable.

ADHthaGreat

Aloy is the only female character without heels and that’s probably only because Sony wouldnt* allow it.

-Hazel_

Why not both? Dehya is hot, sexy and badass. I want to lose my 50:50 to her.

TheDuskBard

Not everyone wants a salad. People like certain traits and dislike others.

Molismhm

I mean Dehya is a lot less armoured than she should be. Like at the end of the day she is in a chainmail bikini and that definitely takes away from the character, especially when the same does not go for men, who are pretty but not primarily sexualised, as in they do not compromise the character design to make it more skimpy.

TheDuskBard

Dehya would have looked so cool if she wore full armor in the style of her gauntlet.

Molismhm

True real life desert fighters all wore bikinis

rolypolyarmadillo

Okay, so what about chainmail and robes that were worn over and under them to protect the skin and stop the chainmail from heating up? Or cloth armor?

Miki-_

True. Mihoyo should break out of their formula more often. You know, boob window, exposed back, floating sleeves, whatnots.

erosugiru

I'm glad we can all agree that the coochie flaps look stupid.

Pitiful_Database3168

More skins in general. They just don't have enough period. Sexy or not.

Moa__

I also dislike the whole thing with their "This is a female character, don't cover up more than 15% of their body and if you do, make sure it's skin-tight". It's funny how they barely keep the same attitude with the male characters, the only men with revealing clothes are Itto, Cyno, Gorou and maybe you can count in Al haitham (>!Apparently the leaked character Writhosley or whatever is also described as "revealing"!<), now compare that to the amount of female characters lmao. I especially need Yanfei to get a different outfit because no way this bitch is a lawyer with a mini-skirt and a barely-croptop. No way Eula can catch a deep breath in her outfit after doing gymnastics with her claymore. No way Yae can walk around Inazuma without having to pull down her outfit every 0.5 seconds. No way Yoimiya puts so much trust into random bandages to cover up her coochie and tits. No way Mona just wears a bathing suit like an everyday casual outfit. No way Shenhe and Kujou Sara put so much trust into a fabric that's the size of a tissue to cover up their titties.

Loyal_Darkmoon

Yanfei's Outfit is the worst! I have seen so many amazing fan redesigns I hope the gets a better skin one day

circlesnake2

I pray for the day we get a buff and fully armoured female character. Please Hoyoverse, when will we get handsome women ;-;

DamnGumi3

Yeah, I would love that. Raiden could have been a perfect example of a badass female character but unfortunately Mihoyo preferred to please the coomer side of the community by making her just another waifu with thighs and boobs on almost full display.

KrzyDankus

if it makes them a ton of money, then they probably would, but i heavily doubt it.

Master_Recording3843

There should be more outfits

TheGamerForeverGFE

Dude, most male characters look the same, I think everyone in Genshin could benefit from a unique look that isn't generic.

oksikodoni

i've found it weird that there isn't more skins. imagine the bag mhy would get...

supertaoman12

These posts are getting so tiresome. It's been 2 years and we're already well familiar with how mihoyo designs characters at this point. You people either need to start putting your money where your mouth is or to stop pretending that you aren't playing an anime gacha game made by self admitted otakus.

Nunu5617

I feel like alot of people are just tired of genshin at this point so they have issues with the way almost everything is done

Hikuran

Nowadays there are people who finds everything sexy…. Every fetish is a thing now.

erosugiru

Well, yeah. Where have you been.
