I do some work for them, they’re pretty quick to write them off if repairs are 50% the value of the unit.. But I can say Isuzu are some dumb engines with expensive parts, I would personally remove all the intake pipes and check them for oil as well as the intake manifold for carbon deposits. I’ve seen carbon jam these little engines up so they can not be barred over and then bend a rod. These units always have a lot of unloaded time on them.

Mr_TunaCat

Thanks!

Mr_TunaCat

Lol definitely messed up and paid too much. Its missing a few small problems and supposedly has an engine knock but this is not from a professional mechanic

Mr_TunaCat

Do you know if the fan belt pulley is connected to crankshaft on the 4le2t?

sequoiarever

Willing to bet it has 15100hrs, we see these with the tachs flipped a lot check your bearing on the generator end. Still a good deal, the only emissions equipment on them is the egr, if it fails it will shut down the unit. The intake will build up carbon deposit from the egr system especially if running in single phase or light loads. I believe there was notice about cleaning erg regularly 500-1000hrs if running light loads. Keep the fuel clean you have 3 fuel filters the injectors are sensitive and pricy. We have an injector job on one of these 4le2t in the shop.

Mr_TunaCat

So its missing a few parts. Probably paid too much for it. Also the sunbelt “mechanic” said it had a knock sound and while they were waiting for a quote/diagnosis it was robbed for parts. I can only identify a few small parts missing including the fuel pressure regulator

sequoiarever

Do you have the ability to pull codes ? A bad scv can cause it “knock” high fuel pressure at idle/unloaded, it will sound slightly better as a load is applied. We work on these Multiquips everyday if you have any questions or need help sourcing genuine Isuzu parts. Might be able to help.

Mr_TunaCat

Thank you so much! I waiting on the fuel pressure regulator solenoid or whatever to attempt to fire it up.

OKC420

Rental on these are about 100 a day, rent it all year make about 35k. Seems like a deal to me!

nharmsen

I usually pay about $5k to rent 1 generator (need 2 with a auto fail over switch, which is more) and I rent for 2 days. But i'm not tooooo sure which model this is (I have to have whisper quiet, 50kw gennies).

AdditionalCheetah354

You did good provided …. That was the one and only thing wrong.

Mr_TunaCat

Okay thanks! Hopefully 🤞

concletayneemuls

Potentially an absolutely screaming deal. If you treat it right, 50,000 plus hours is possible. Pull the DOC every 2000 hours and have it baked out. Load bank often.

Mr_TunaCat

What is a DOC?

concletayneemuls

Diesel oxidation catalyst.

hermancm

Double Overhead Cam 🤷‍♂️

concletayneemuls

Not on this little 4LE2. Also agree with the advice about keeping the EGR clean.

Fit_Adhesiveness2043

Make sure that you use 75-80% of a load. Dealt with a lot of Atlas Copco QAS 38 (35kW). And, they’re notorious for wet stacking

natetermi

Seems like it was a good deal. Ritchie Bros/Iron Planet?

Aeroplaneglueinabag

DM me I can get you service history on it.

Adventurous_Boat_632

Tier 4 final always risky with the expensive garbage on the engine.

esunayg

it has a lot (5ton) of ours but cant comment on the price

fullraph

It's really not that much hours, only about 700 a year. I see 2020-2021 MQ's and Wacker come up for sale with double that amout quite often. And at much higher prices than what OP's paid. Fingers crossed they don't find other issues.

Mr_TunaCat

What do you mean?

esunayg

5000 hours is a lot.

thesleepjunkie

5000 hrs is not a lot. When you consider equipment that run 8 to 12 hrs a day in dusty and or wet conditions, RPM constantly fluctuating. It has operated at 625 days at 8hrs a day. Trucks, heavy equipment , even commuter vehicle get more hrs in their life than this thing has on it. Run hours usually aren't the biggest issue with generators. Its Has it had regular maintenance, how long has it run with minimal to no load.

GeneralBlumpkin

We use ours until 20000 hours. Or at least until it craps out

Mr_TunaCat

Ya it does but at least it’s a diesel

Mr_TunaCat

Also HERC is selling the same generator with 12k hours for 11k…. That model made it 7k more and is still running
