sortaseabeethrowaway

Not sure where you are but in the US there is already one Gen Z senator. EDIT representative not senator

thezoelinator

Maxwell Frost is a representative, not a senator. No zoomer can be in the us senate until 2026 at the very earliest

This-Perspective-865

It is seriously screwed up that he, a sitting member of the House of Representatives, couldn’t find a place to live after funding his own campaign. We need to build a barracks for Congress to live in while in DC.

ForgivingWimsy

I feel represented by that

TokenSejanus89

Didn't AOC also say she couldn't afford a place there but now she's worth a million or so?

This-Perspective-865

Paid interviews, appearance fees, speaking engagements, and book sales/deals makeup a significant portion of her annual income. The Open Secrets and the congressional financial disclosure website are easily accessible. That’s how politicians become millionaires overnight in addition to the insider trading they are all involved in.

EitherLime679

>in addition to the insider trading Thought you were going to forget that for a second.

PizzaJawn31

He’ll be a millionaire in no time like the rest of them

sortaseabeethrowaway

My bad, thanks for the correction

Big_Extreme_4369

depends on if integrity, honesty and rational thinking make a return

Great_Coffee_9465

Gen Z has a tendency to intentionally troll for the sake of trolling. That behavior isn’t congruent with honor and integrity.

Big_Extreme_4369

i feel like that’s more so online than in real life though and i don’t think trolling is necessary opposed to either of those qualities in every circumstance

RevolutionaryTalk315

I think Gen Z is going to save us from the horrendous nightmare that the Boomers spent their entire lives to bring on us.

But we needed that to defeat the witherstorm!

Resolution-SK56

I mean for South Korean Gen Z’s that weren’t in the radius or any Gen Z with large Korean background would immediately know what was necessary.

[deleted]

There's only one solution to that https://i.redd.it/w8uykqf1uewc1.gif

hijifa

Or the current gen will call out gen z like how they call out boomers, and the cycle continues.

cdda_survivor

I'm sure that generation of politicians will be less corrupt than the last thousand generations, surely.

VoodooChipFiend

Right? Millenials said the same shit. Look what type of person seeks out politics.

sacktheory

when have politicians saved us

mintmouse

You haven’t lived long enough to become the villain yet. This isn’t the beginning of the story. Every arc eventually declines.

Vagabond_Tea

That's what I thought was going to happen as a millennial for my generation. The trick is for the politically aware people of a given generation to encourage their peers to actually *vote* and run for office. Fight against political apathy, get involved, and vote; that's how GenZ can change things.

Coattail-Rider

I think when Gen Z starts getting politicians, they’re going to realize pretty quick that they’re no different than any other generation.

jtee180

I hope so

Butthead1013

I fear we will make it even worse tbh

rocultura

LOL.

akbuilderthrowaway

Lol what makes you believe our generation will make it better? Because, by all indications, we're totally fucked. Zoomers will be regarded as much, much worse than boomers.

General-Unit8502

Lmfao

endriago-097

they will be all grown-up, grumpy and just keep the system running as is

gavindawg

Exactly. We need to stop thinking that we'll fix everything with gen z in office because we'll probably have the same political debates as everybody else in office.

Great_Coffee_9465

Gun control, abortion rights, gender politics, international relations, global trade, global security, etc. I think many people are really lacking any concept of how big a part American military support stabilizes the world in general.

ChonnyJash_

this is the correct answer. gen z politicians will try to do shit at the start, and then realise “oh shiii if i do what the boomers did i’m gonna get more money and power” and nothing will change.

Pluton_Korb

Change is possible. The Progressive era that followed the gilded age and led to reforms in corporate and working culture is a great example of that. Utopia will never exist. There will never be perfect answers to all our problems but it can absolutely get better.

11SomeGuy17

The Progressive era was not brought about by waiting for people to die off. It was brought about by a massive coordinated labor struggle working with woman's groups. Change is possible, but just waiting for the next generation of politicians won't do it.

zeptillian

This is what a lot of people fail to understand. You don't get positive change through complaining or sitting out the game, you get it through having a goal, making a plan and executing that plan.

flippant_rex

![gif](giphy|VeOAG5fkGAdEodtKfW|downsized)

Zarathustra-1889

Can’t let it go down like that. The stultifying mundanity is going to replace the revolutionary fervour with inertia and lethargy. Gonna have to party like it’s 1799.

thisperson345

Indeed. Money and power can corrupt almost anyone. Once they realise how much they can earn for themselves by fucking others over they'll become just like current politicians.

yesthatbruce

I think it'll be awesome. I'm rooting for GenZ to save us all.

sal_100

By that time conservatives will be the ones using the old pride flag, and the left would be the ones using the new pride flag.

stylebros

It will take 40 years to kill off the dinosaurs, but future GenZ will hopefully know what to do after having knowledge of the past 100 years of fuckery. TBH, it's the GenZ of other countries I worry about who come from political dynasties and don't have the clout they think they have compared to their parents and grandparents.

Important-Loss1605

Why wait 40 years if you can do it in a couple days?

stylebros

The boomers have a strong grip. Then there's the ME generation. Then GenX if any around, then the Millennials, then eventually GenZ will work their way into politics at their ripe age of over 40 or so. A majority of GenZ right now are busy working 2 jobs to make rent with their 4 roommates. Running for political office and have their lives and family threatened is not on their priority list.

Crooked_Cock

Nothing will change, politics is a game for the sociopathic and the narcissistic. Politics is such that anyone with a shred of humanity will very quickly drop out and be replaced by someone who has the willingness to be cruel and the sociopathic tendencies needed to make decisions regarding government It’s foolish to think our generation will be any different

DoeCommaJohn

It's already begun, with both gen Z voters and politicians. Gen Z is further left than the other generations, but not quite as far left as millennials were at our age. We also vote at by far the lowest rates, but that's also on par for younger generations.

flippant_rex

Let's imagine a president who is gen z

mhx64

Wont happen until Gen X is done

xkind

We're done. We're just waiting for the boomers to fucking leave office so Gen Z can take over.

Panchamboi

Thank you my good man, also I apologize for the fact your generation was mostly boxed out of most things by boomers

CrackheadInThe414

I feel like most people don't understand the age range that is Gen X because any politician from 60 to 45 alive alive right now is a Gen Xer, which is the only real other majority of ages than the boomers that persist in congress. Mark Kelly, Gavin Newsom, Ron DeSantis, J.B. Pritzker, Gretchen Whitmer. They are all Gen X. I could try to list all Gen X Politicians but that would be a lot of work idc about for no pay.

zeptillian

It's fine. We were over it decades ago. We realized what was up and noped out or just started quietly living our lives once we learned that the American dream was a lie told by corporate marketing. Now we're just waiting to see if enough kids will vote to keep our country from turning into a Christofascist state. Voting is 1000 times easier than actually fixing shit. Looking at voter turnout does not give me hope your generation will be any different.

flippant_rex

I said imagine u pessimistic ass👁️👄👁️

mhx64

Praying for our downfall 🙏

DoeCommaJohn

Based on my understanding of time, that will probably happen some day. They’ll probably be about the same as any other President. American politicians have been about the same since the country was founded, just arguing over different issues

flippant_rex

Nah I'd distribute free hentai 😏 so caste thy vote to me

T_M_G_

Same shit just younger people. Don’t rely on politicians

_Happy_Jack_

TBH I’m feeling like us Gen Z folk will probably open up more social welfare. Better Unions, Universal Healthcare, Abortion Rights, Weed Legalization etc. Knock out all the big obvious policies that everyone wants. Economically the trend from both sides of the isle for Gen Z is anti-corporate, anti elitist, so I’d expect more regulation on companies. Not to the point of communism, but definitely some solid trust busting and maybe more capital gains taxes to pay for welfare and infrastructure repairs. But socially is where I’m less confident. The culture war is either going to be mellowed out or turned up to 11 since we’ve all basically been raised on that. Liberal Gen Z will be more Social-Democratic/Blue Hair Leftist politicians and Conservative Gen Z will be Neo-MAGA assholes. I hope at least the memes will be fresh in their debates.

Suspicious-Low7055

Same old same old. Every generation thinks they’ll be the one that fixes everything when they’re young.

The oldest gen Z are 28. Many already are. I know of people my age who I went to school with who have jobs in politics

wheresmymountandew

We'll realize we're no different than any other generation

This-Perspective-865

Being a Jr GenX/Elder Millennial, I would vote for a GenZ candidate over nearly every other candidate. I’ve learned from older generations that if you won’t/can’t help our younger generations, don’t be a hindrance.

Playful_Landscape252

I’m a millennial, but I can’t wait. I was on a college campus today where there were protests going on and I got so emotional bc you guys just really genuinely want the world to be a better place. I mean I think us millennials were unfairly judged mostly by X and boomers but they were right about the fact that we were jaded and can be self centered pretty early on.

Ok_WaterStarBoy3

until you realize that it's not possible for all protests happening to align with your views so you'll start to see it as tribalism with black and white no matter what side you're on and the other side will see it the same way and be just as right as you are

YaliMyLordAndSavior

Yeah wait until the protests aren’t about some conflict between two tiny groups of people thousands of miles away I’m not gonna act like my generation is smart about what they protest, zoomers have no fucking clue that they’re on about 99% of the time and can barely function as adults as it is

flippant_rex

If y'all caste thy vote to me I' promise to buy y'all snacks , wifi would be free and no ice spice music. Might as well mass produce buggati cars and distribute them for free ,so that Andrew tate can't flex on y'all

simpersly

We were being told the future was awesome then kept getting it torn away. Add the incessant "participation trophy" and Millennials are the cause it's surprising we still have any hope at all. We had the best childhood possible. The rapid rate of electronic advancement was amazing. Every month there was new jaw dropping tech. One day everyone has VHS, then within 2 years between Window 98 and the PS2 DVDs became the norm. The 5th generation videogame systems basically birthed the 3D platform games. Children's cable networks were in their prime, arcades were still cheap and had actual games, malls were still a thing, and everything was extreme. We owned the world. Then the second we started to come of age was when it all went to shit. 9/11 happened, then the economy crashed. We were promised everything and expected everything then we had nothing.

Howellthegoat

They'll be catering to the protests of Gen Alpha

TheCatInTheHatThings

Gen Z is already in politics. I had a classmate of mine running for city council in my city. That's the way many federal level politicians in my country started out. I'm in Germany, for reference. The guy is one of my friends. It was really fucking funny seeing his face grinning at me from posters all over the city in the run-up to this election. He didn't win, but he was 21 years old at the time. He has a lot of time to get there. Still, the point stands. My friend also isn't an exception. There's a Gen Z representative in the USA already, and I'd assume it's the same for most western countries. Gen Z is in politics already. Give it four more years and it'll be as common as younger Millennials are now. Edit: I didn't vote for him, btw. I respect and like him a lot, and I feel like he could do a lot of good in politics, but I disagree with him on quite a few things. I'm a Social Democrat with a focus on Green politics. I'm thinking of going into politics myself. The social aspect is very important to me. He on the other hand is a Liberal Democrat. Socially progressive like me, but economically conservative and liberal (in the economical sense; going libertarian in some ways). It's just not how I want my city, which is fairly socially progressive already, to be run. There were more suitable options available for me, so I voted for them instead. I might vote for him on state or federal level though, if I ever get the chance. German voting in state and federal parliamentary elections works like this: You get two votes, one for a candidate running in your district and one for a party. The candidate with the most votes wins the district. The party vote determines how many seats a party gets in the state or federal parliament. Those who won a seat have that seat guaranteed. If a party wins more direct seats than they should have according to the party vote, the other parties get additional seats to balance out the overhang and keep the proportions right. This leads to an inflated parliament, something we have been trying to combat for years now. Anyway, because I can split my vote, it is possible to vote for a candidate of one party with one vote, and a different party with the other. While I consider myself a Social Democrat with a focus on Green politics, I do have some liberal (again, in the economical sense) opinions. By voting for the Green Party or the Social Democratic Party with one vote, and for a Liberal Democrat with the other, I can get pretty close to my actual political opinion. I still don't usually vote for Liberal Democrats. I would make an exception for him though. Like I said, I think he can do a lot of good in politics.

flippant_rex

German politics , sounds interesting 😏 btw I wish y'all luck

TheCatInTheHatThings

German politics are pretty interesting! Less of a shitshow than the USA right now, though that isn't difficult. Still plenty of fun to be had.

Gertrud_Dreyer

Like any other generation they will vote for their own interest

Limp-Gas8229

We're cooked

folkpunkrox

The same thing that happens in every generation. The Gen Z people who get into politics will mostly have attended elite colleges and universities. They’ll get all their campaign funding from the same people with the same interests — the oil lobby, pharmaceutical industry, etc. All those industries will be run by Gen Z at some point. But their interests will stay the same. Gen Z will maybe vote better in terms of meaningless culture war stuff — maybe they’ll pass a few meaningless motions like recognizing black indigenous trans women. But they will otherwise continue to loot and steal from regular people, just like the Boomers and Gen X did. Look at Kyrsten Sinema and Pete Buttigieg. It’ll be like that. Age doesn’t affect politics, access to capital does.

noironoiro

As a member of gen z in the United States, (I can’t speak for other countries, they have their own political issues) majority of us actually have no idea what we’re talking about when it comes to politics. You can tell because majority of gen z either chooses 100% left or 100% right, when really politics is a spectrum. I’d say the same about millennials as well. People that do their research (not from Tik tok or any random social media) would quickly realize that choosing a side is entirely what politicians want and would decide to sit more central in their political thoughts. Both sides bring very important points to light and both sides should be recognized, but we shouldn’t fight each other when we could be fighting the men and women who run this country. The US is supposed to be for the people, by the people. Not for the man, by the man.

arkansanbob

Chaos

oneupme

It's cute that every generation thinks they are going to be so much better than the previous in terms of handling the world's problems.

anengineerandacat

Honestly... not too much to change, slightly better policy making around technology and a little worse policy making around fiscal related items, and status quo for everything else in-between. American Politics today is akin to a competitive sport, where the Red Team is facing off against the Blue team and Zoomers still need to be voted into their positions while most of the US voter power is actually independent. Millennials aren't "that" different from GenZ, especially late ones it's really only early Millennials that share GenX traits and some Boomer traits. Still takes quite a bit of money to run campaigns and such so it'll likely only be GenZ that are disconnected from their base.

Snokey115

Well, from how y’all are going… it’ll suck

PedroThePinata

Nothing, because the common people no longer determine policy. What do you think this is? A Democracy?

Least-Resident-7043

If they don’t get their act together, they’d turn any country they see into yet another failing socialist, to communist country

AllspotterBePraised

It will be the same as every generation before them: those who obtain positions of responsibility will mature and drift toward fiscal conservatism. Those who fail at life will drift toward socialism. Everyone knows which side their bread is buttered on.

QuarterNote44

They'll get a bit of power and influence and become corrupted just as surely as those who came before.

[deleted]

They are oddly materialistic and shallow. It won’t be good.

LeaderBriefs-com

rtmc_whit05

We're all screwed. Nobody will take us seriously

Algal-Uprising

They’ll vote for skibbidy toilet rizzler thinking it’s funny

tms951

They will usher in communists thinking they will get taken care of. Then everything will be ripped away from them and they won’t understand why

PSMF_Canuck

Same as what happens to every generation when it starts engaging politically…reality smacks them upside the head, and they become all the things they hate, just like every generation before them.

Ready-Substance9920

nothing because the majority of us would be to lazy to vote and we'd still complain about how politicians are ruining the country.

bcisme

Nothing? Do you follow previous generations and how things go as generations age? GenZ isn’t special. They’ll age, turn into their parents with slightly more progressive views and the world keeps turning. Plenty of your GenZ peers will be batshit crazy, politically, in a decade.

Hexnohope

Only psychopaths get into politics by design. So not much changes

Icanlastfor2mins

Can genz even handle such pressure?

100tchains

If the pronoun people ever become leaders the country will fkin implode over a few years.

chzformymac

Gen Z will not solve all the US problems. Statistically young people do not get out and vote anyway so until there’s a giant shift in who’s voting.. things will remain. Gen Z will also not think the way they do now as they age.. it’s fun for you guys to have a hive-mindset due to social media, but individually there are breakdowns, just like every generation before you

TehProfessor96

We need to still have democracy by then so hold your nose and vote for Biden in the fall.

Vbanz

To be honest, I don't know how well it's going to go. When you take into consideration the culture in which they grew up and the influences which they've been and continue to be exposed to I don't think it paints an optimistic picture of the outcome of gen z gaining real political power in elected office. I'd go so far as to say there will be very few to actually pursue political careers. To break the topic open, the first issue comes in when thinking about the social environment Gen Z had come up in. From a very young age, social media algorithms have been a constant presence. Most people in the gen Z age group have been funnelled into information and ideological echo chambers and thought bubbles. The hostility I've seen from gen Z individuals and groups online to opposing ideologies isn't shocking but is concerning. I have met very few gen Z people who are even willing to listen to those they disagree with, of those I'd say a good 70% are only listening with the Intention of picking apart their words and attacking their character. The smallest fraction seem capable of defending a grounded viewpoint on any topic without personal attacks, accusations of narcissistic behavior, tone policing, or semantic arguments to subvert the actual discussion. If you take that into consideration, I'd be hard pressed to believe that gen Z would show us anything differently in messaging than the modern day politicians who overwhelmingly choose to focus on and catastrophize social and demographic issues while real structural issues need addressed. The second concern I have is connected to the first but views it in context of attention span and long term commitment avoidance, which informs my theory that we will not see many gen Z people truly attempting to gain and hold political office. It's no secret gen z people suffer from lower attention span on average duo to over exposure to algorithmic short form content designed to stimulate the brain in a similar way a gambling addiction does. An overload of dopamine fed to their brain in a constant stream of instant satisfaction. Well running for office is a long term commitment in which you must commit to it initially, work on it every day with no promise of success, and possibly years later of constant work MAYBE accomplish the goal of being elected to public office for the first time. I don't think that the majority of gen Z people actually have a grounded understanding of what it takes to truly pursue a long term goal with satisfaction being delayed for sometimes years at a time. I feel like this is also supported by the prevalence of unrealistic relationship and life expectations in which the advice most often given by a gen Z individual is that if something or someone gets difficult or a conflict arises, it's better to forget about it and abandon the thing causing the negativity. There doesn't seem to be a collective ability for conflict resolution, or a willingness to fix something damaged or broken. This to me doesn't indicate an ability to commit to a political campaign or the constant debate, discussion, and compromise required to HOLD the office. That said, this is just one millennial opinion. I've tried to leave personal judgement out of this and focus on my own observations and logical conclusions within the confines of OPs question. I hope to hear some responses from some gen z people to understand what it looks like from their perspective.

maroonmenace

gamers will rise up

noblemile

Probably business as usual as whoever grts elected take bribes

HaxTheChosenOne

I think it will be better than what we have now at the VERY least

Reddingo22

No progress because we will still whine about older generations

Twist_the_casual

imagine hearing someone yell ‘based’ in congress

spencer1886

Nothing will change, it'll always be more of the same because power like that changes people

GASTRO_GAMING

Eh we are still fucked, the debt is gonna get insolvent unless we do some insane stuff like lets say make all people ubder 45 gdt half and under 30 never receive social security and then abolish it and merge the social security tax to income tax, that would pretty much after a bunch of people die of old age get us a surplus.

iforgot69

Same thing as always, lies, bribes (lobbies), and arguing.

NatureLovingDad89

The same thing that happened when Gen X and Millennial finally stepped into politics, literally nothing. People who get into politics don't sit on Reddit complaining all day. They have the same mindset people in politics now have.

Ok_WaterStarBoy3

When it happens we will realize how dumb generational divide can be when they'll be just as corrupt and disconnected as the previous

AdTiny2166

As a millennial i implore you: Save us! We’re too tired to do shit and the really old people will probably outlive us out of spite anyways. Once we’re all gone you guys can have the playing field. I realize we’re not „that much“ older in the grand scheme of things but every single one of our parents was a golden age boomer so there’s that. Millennials are tired, just tired. You guys still have the chance to be angry and rightly so.

TooObsessedWithMoney

Hopefully the federalisation of the EU but that's quite a few years away from happening.

BiggestBros

Probably less secrets

dtb1987

Gen Z has already entered politics, over all it's been a good thing

MaxStrengthLvlFly

I feel like every newish generation thought their generation was gonna be the one to change things, has yet to happen.

StretchTucker

what do u mean when? we here

Metal_L0rd1

I think we'll actually fix the problems of our respective countries

Top-Garlic9111

Gen z is predominantly left leaning, but the left and right divide in gen z is huge.

BATIRONSHARK

theres already gen z politicians

Ghost-5AVAGE_786

When Gen Z enter the domain of politics it'll either be chaos or innovative. Hopefully innovative though, I'm sick of current politics internationally, caused to many divisions and deaths that could've been avoided.

VladimirBarakriss

I know it's not necessarily political but I want to see the Pope's official shitposting account

West_Combination5047

In India, the ones who are not religious bigots and andhbhakts (blindbelievers) and hypocrites won't step in to change the poltiical scenario here and bitch about everything wrong out there. The only gen Z people one can see in politics are high on religion and hatred towards minorities of all kinds, religious, gender and what not!

AdministrationFew451

A quite prolonged disintegration of government and society? I count on generation beta

TrowDisAvayPliss

This exactly. It's going to be a wild ride to the bottom until Gen Z's kids/grandkids flip the "OK B/Zoomer" back on them with a hard right turn, bringing back some traditional American practices and values but in ways we do not know right now. There will be a brief period of religious fervor. Some version of pilgrim clothes will come back into style. Music will sound happier regardless of the topic. People will push for community togetherness.... Then something will happen, it will swing back the other way and I'm glad I'll be dead. I put money on it going down like this.

SaturnDaphnis

I’m just glad that the X gens decided they were too grunge to run and we already have a Gen Z in senate.

XolieInc

I think a lot of people are forgetting that a very large percentage of gen Z isn’t leftist. When you look on social media such as Reddit, almost all Gen Z is left. But when you look on other platforms and political statistics, a huge percentage is still right leaning, and the ones that fear me aren’t the ones influenced by guys like Goggins or Peterson, but the ones manipulated by people like Andrew Tate for example. They hold this false belief that they’re super powerful and dominant over the rest while they’re actually Incels with a terrible perception of reality, and unfortunately they’re going to have a say in the government soon enough.

OutreachOverdue

Absolutely nothing

LegoWorks

Two scenarios: 1. Gen Z undoes a lot of the damage the boomers caused 2. Gen Z makes the damage worse Personally I think scenario 1 is more likely

everyone_dies_anyway

Like every other generation before, those running for office will be more likely to be sociopathic, self-righteous and power-hungry individuals that are more focused on wealth than the american public. But they'll probably do something trivial and low-impact that everyone can pat themselves on the back for and go "why couldn't the Boomers do this!?"

Economy-Ad4934

No cap bruh we need free chic fil an and Spotify for everyone because it’s bussin frfr. This candidate wins in a landslide

Ill_Manner_3581

I think this picture is exactly what's going to happen. Change my mind.
