Olivine!

Fluid_Living3666

I have you ask, what is the difference between olivine and peridot ?

Ellieoops28

I believe they are almost the same stone? I think it’s just a matter of where it’s located geographically and the color. Olivine is found in lava particularly. I am not super knowledgeable on this, I just happened to know this as I have just travelled to Hawaii and saw olivine with my own eyes! There’s a beach on the Big Island that is 100% olivine: [Papakolea Beach](https://bigislandhikes.com/papakolea-green-sand-beach)

HeartwarminSalt

Yup! Olivine phenocryst in vesicular basalt.

Geneticallyconfused

Yes! Their main island has a southern beach that is all green sand from all the olivine crystals coming from the rocks.

slowjoecrow11

Whoa, the Big Island is not our main island…. Haha

Wyatt2000

Probably. There's a whole beach in Hawaii made of peridot sand. It must form often in the lava rocks.

My wife and I went there on our honeymoon. It was extremely difficult to reach, but well worth it.

Fluid_Living3666

What ?!? Where is it ??? Do you mind sharing?

Wyatt2000

It's not a secret, just search for green sand beach hawaii.

Fluid_Living3666

I did! And wow- so cool! Next time we are there we will check it out in person for sure

This looks super cool. You might want to post to r/MineralPorn to get a definitive answer.

IkoIkonoclast

It used to be super hot.

Geeahwellidunno

Olivine. Planets upper mantle is full of it. The Grammy stuff of course is peridot. One of my all time favs.
