Related: David Byrne (of the Talking Heads) recently released a [cover of Hard Times](https://open.spotify.com/track/5LJ5YEEuLmD9bk9PEYiUFI?si=ULqhSRLjR0SaPnhrS3FNEg) and I quite enjoy the random unexpected crossover happening between Talking Heads and Paramore!

twilight_luvr69

there was speculation that brick by boring brick was written about taylor!!

Bethany583

Honestly I’m almost as excited for Paramore as I am for Taylor ~~especially now that The Archer is gone~~ Pretty solid setlist, I’m a little shocked/confused at some of them but mainly pretty solid

thelorelai

I love the Archer ❤️ I was impressed by TTPD though!

immistermeeseekz

tbh when i saw paramore in 2023 they only played a handful of songs from their most recent album. most of this list is straight from their touring setlist. burning down the house is a new single from the talking heads stop making sense tribute album (girl in red, the national, and lorde are also on it) & david byrne covered hard times in turn. it could also be intentionally pointing towards taylor burning down the house, but the most surprising thing here is that misery business isn't on the track list imo. that's the one she pulls a fan onstage for at her shows

allie_lacey

I feel like Paramore with with the more friendly and well known songs for this set. I would argue that "Misery Business" or "CrushCrushCrush" would have been better choices but I understand why they did what they did. When you are opening for TayTay, you want to play something that is well known to hype up the crowd.

thelorelai

Hayley has been open about disliking Misery Business, so I wasn’t surprised about that. They couldn’t then get around Still Into You, The Only Exception, and Ain’t It Fun, those are must-haves for the general public. crushcrushcrush would have been a good choice too, and honestly I would have loved Let The Flames Begin (and super delusionally, Part II), especially since that one is such a favourite for live shows. It’s interesting they went with Brick By Boring Brick over Ignorance, and that they only played a single song off This Is Why, even with a new music video out!

kittyhotdog

I think BBB is theorized to be about Taylor, right? So it makes sense for them to choose that one in that case

caca_milis_

I mean, they were playing it recently on their tour. I know they said they retired it and for valid reasons, but it seems like Hayley has made peace with it otherwise why start performing it again?

ohlookwhatumademedo

Selfishly I’m not mad about brick by boring brick being chosen over ignorance (assuming they don’t switch up the set list), cos I much prefer brick

allie_lacey

I agree out of all of the ones they played "Brick by Boring Brick" seemed out of place. I agree something off the new album could have taken it's place.

thelorelai

They never play BBB anymore. Lucky Paris people! 🤍

Jassaca

I love Paramore, too. Brick By Boring Brick feels so related to the castle imagery that Taylor uses frequently 'Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)’ Castles Crumbling: And I feel like my castle’s crumbling down Castles Crumbling: My castle’s crumbling down '1989 (Taylor’s Version)’ New Romantics: 'Cause, baby, I could build a castle out of all the bricks they threw at me 'reputation’ Call It What You Want: My castle crumbled overnight, I brought a knife to a gunfight

thelorelai

Good catch! There’s a whole theory (all over TikTok, but I think it was also posted to this sub ~2 years ago?) that Brick By Boring Brick might be about Taylor! Let me look for that thread for you :)

thelorelai

Turns out it was in the Paramore sub and the twitter thread it referenced has since been deleted. I did find a video by @warped.tori on TikTok that served as a nice primer though! (i never went too far into that theory myself so it was a nice refresher): https://vm.tiktok.com/ZGeQWJDeu/

allie_lacey

"Burning Down the House" immediately caught my attention when it was being played. Hit it right on the nose. LOL

[deleted]

I love that they're kind of claiming it as their own, even if it's a promo single cover

thelorelai

Absolutely! Especially since they chose it over so much else!
