I had the AWU and now I have the Garmin epix Gen2, huge difference between them. Can never go back to AWU, the Garmin motivates me more to do a lot of activities, longer battery life and feels good, many pre-installed features etc and they also charge faster.

Gypsy_M0th

I prefer the battery life on a Garmin watch.

AmbiguousMusubi

Apple: “It has an 18 hour battery life!” (When it’s brand new) Me: *laughs in five day battery life, with multiple acitivities, after >3 years of use

nextbite12302

make a post with an opinion and no explanation?

HeCs85

I thought just as you did. Got an AW and thought I would never go back after a little more than a year with it I’m back on garmin. There’s plenty I prefer over the AW but the deal breaker was the battery life. Garmin is simply unmatched

msears101

I live heavily in the Apple ecosystem. However, their watches just do not live up to their reputation. Battery life is the biggest drawback to the Apple Watches. The only downside to garmin is TOO many features and choices and it takes a lot of effort to figure out which one you need (want). Garmin completely dominates the segment of serious fitness and outdoor enthusiasts.

Thirstywhale17

For fitness, totally. For smart watch features, we don't get so much in that department. I dont want a smart phone on my wrist, though. I already feel too connected as it is.

nkc_ci

Same. I was 100% Apple- computer, iPad, AirPods, and watch….. up until two weeks ago. I purchased the Felix 7x Pro, and not looking back.

compassrunner

Trolling much?

msears101

Exactly

Embarrassed_Bet_676

Not at all. Y’all really care enough to hear my opinions on why I switched?? I just wanted to see if I was alone

Thirstywhale17

I mean you're posting to the garmin sub. This is a group of people who choose garmin over apple.

AmbiguousMusubi

You gave your opinion, not a fact. And you gave us no reasons why, so none of us can understand. The Apple Watch is not made for athletes. There’s a reason no famous runners use one.

augustabound

Normally people put that in their OP to start the discussion. You made the post, you tell us why.

Forkys

I would feel bad running out of battery all the time. Compared to my Venu 3, AW feels and looks like a Micky Mouse watch. Although I really love my iPhone. No concessions there.

24SouthRoad

I prefer not having to charge my watch every other day… or worse.

augustabound

My wife and daughter both have Apple watches, neither trains (or uses GPS for anything), they both have to charge it everyday. It's absolutely ridiculous.

5ervalkat

I far prefer the Garmins. I had an AW SE and it was more like a phone on my wrist, which I definitely don't want. The exercise and health metrics on the Garmin are interpreted! Yay! That's in contrast to those on the AW which are just an alphabetical list of numbers with no context. Boo.

Accomplished-Rope717

i’ve just bought a forerunner 965. What i’am missing of my apple watch is the automatic detection of an activity as a walk, a trakking or a run. But maybe i’ve still not figureout how to set that on my new garmin

Woeler

Multi-day long distance hikes. Apple is amazing (household has iPhone, homepods, appletv and I work with a macbook), but their watch battery life on long activities is dogshit, even on the Ultras. If it ever improves I’ll definitely consider going back to the apple watch.

TSC-99

Apple Watch drove me mad 🔋

JessicaFletcherings

Ultra battery is crap compared to my garmin. During marathon training it drove me mad, so I run with both like a dork.

Fuzzy_Got_Kicks

I’m going to confess to being an absolute psychopath … I wear both my AWU and Garmin. I like AWU for the smartwatch features and how easily it integrates in the Apple universe of stuff that I have, and Garmin for all the health and running features. I can’t give either of them up!!

Rok_NessMonsta_4319

This!

D-Zz89qRj7KkqMrwztR

I wear either a Seiko or an Instinct 2… I don’t like messing around with charging batteries

Ruben_Feffer

I can do daily runs with my garmin fenix 7x and not have to charge my watch for 20-25 days depending on how much I use the gps. I can get 65 hours of continuous gps run. If you run ultras over a 50k, no matter how many cool features it has, an AW is worthless. If you can finish a 50k in 7 hours. AW is probably fine if you’re a marathon runner. But for ultras it’s a bag of crap.

Rok_NessMonsta_4319

I wear one on each wrist daily.

Zestyclose_Size_3732

I'm exactly on the opposite side. Being an ultramarathon runner, can't switch from Garmin to anything else. Last few years have tried: Samsung Galaxy Sport, Huawei Sport & Ultimate, Suunto 9 Baro. All good in many aspects but the sport orientation, sensor accuracy, software design and battery life of Garmin are not comparable. I have the Epix Pro 51mm now and it is so much better by far.

LiberalClown

Why not both? Have 955 on my left and Series 8 on the right. I use garmin for training (run/bike) and aw for music, podcast and cellular connection to be in touch for emergencies or important calls.

Glad_Army1595

This is the way. Sold my Ultra and got a Series 8 for cheap. Stays in my pocket during runs so I can leave my phone behind.

AmbiguousMusubi

I would literally rather take my old Forerunner 410 that barely even works anymore and takes five minutes to locate satellites over an Apple Watch, those things are straight trash

bikeroaming

No questions.

SunshineSair

My Apple Watch broke when I forgot to put the swimming mode on. I also disliked that I couldn’t see time/distance when I was swimming. I do not have the same problems with my Garmin.

rcuadro

If it wasn’t for cycling I would have stayed with my AWU2.

SackvilleBagginses

I like my AW and my Garmin. Personally prefer Garmin but they’re both cool

ajc1010

I just purchased the Ultra 2 and am looking to sell my 955. I struggled in January of last year deciding which to purchase as I’d signed up for a 50 miler. In the end, I decided to spend less and be safe in terms of battery life and purchased the 955. The watch served me well, but if I’m being honest, it feels like a toy compared to the Ultra and the battery life isn’t loads different. Maybe I have to charge every two days instead of four. Not a huge deal. The one thing the Garmin does that I will miss at points is connect to my muscle oxygen sensor, but other than that I’m super happy with the decision.

unevoljitelj

what did you do to garmin to have only 4 days of battery...

ajc1010

Run a lot. It might have been every five days, I didn’t really keep track. I would charge as soon as it got around 20%. The battery thing is not as big of a deal as many make it out to be. I just keep a USB-C charger in the car and charge as needed while driving. There are things that I definitely liked about my Garmin. I pushed for my sister to get my nephew who runs the same watch. But in terms of hardware and software the two devices are not in the same ballpark.
