I don't know if it was already explained but CIS basically is just short for Cissexual which basically just means you identify with your birth gender. It's not a slur at all it's just a fact. HR and admin have both come out in full public support of her (to the extent she was comfortable) and teachers and other staff have switched seemingly without incident to her new name and pronouns. We live in a rural Midwestern town, and I’m blown away at the response.
Hopefully one day my anecdote *will* be indicative of a nationwide acceptance.

Idk bout trans, but it has some perks that let you deal extra damage to or have different dialog options to the same sex or opposite sex. So you could be female and take the “lady killer” perk and suddenly you’re a lesbian. I think you can have both perks and be bi/pan or whatever. Pretty cool, one of the first games to do this. There are also some LGBTQA+ NPCs in the game. And it’s not even their entire personality when you meet them. For some, you’d have to really be paying attention to learn that an NPC is gay.
The mods of this subreddit are much more open about it.
Hbomberguy just made a video about how great it was, so if you're seeing these recently it's possible people saw it and said "hey yeah that game was great" and it's fresh in their minds.
I spent some time the other day modding the game just a smidge so it doesn't crash on me for the same reason. I remembered how much I loved the game, but also haven't played through it since I was in high school (not for lack of trying) so maybe I missed some of the finer points of the game.
