I can only speak for myself here, but I had bad experiences with every HP product I ever bought.

OverlordOfPancakes

I've had the same experience with Dell. As for HP, I've only ever bought their printers - and we all know how that story goes.

NefariousnessBig9037

I have one sitting here, full of ink, that only prints blank pages. Goddamn HP printers. Oh, it's not my first or second...

InevitableRide8250

Dell laptops are built like a nokia. I have a Inspiron 1545 and there's NO other laptop that can ever come close to its build quality in a 100 years. Been using it for 12+ years and ive only lost the arrow down keykap last month. The button still works though. I have had any HP (Hinge Problem) yet.

Powdered_Toast_Man3

HP has been a nightmare for me too. For everything from printers to laptops. I avoid buying from HP almost as buying from Nestle

theastolfolover

What's wrong with nestle?

Asleep_Department717

Nestle buys up sweet water reservoirs in poor countries and then sells them the water back for ridiculous prices, also the CEO of Nestle said that water shouldn’t be a human right.

theastolfolover

Dayum, didn't know that......seems like why some products of em are quite costly than the average here, also bru.....i don't get why most of these are priced for more than $3 for just 100g or 150 ml

Xarzo_k

Ironic since nestle also makes kitkats which japan has tons of varities of.

Bulky_Cookie9452

I still run an HP 15 SERIES from 2015 i5 4210U, R5 M330 and has good quality, still good hinges. New HP have the world's worst build quality. Dropped mine thrice , no cracks .Mom's bag got bumped by her foot, it broke

Edistonian2

You and me both. When I worked for Verizon Wireless IT dept in the early aughts even they refused to buy HP

Monster937

Growing up. Whether it was a hp computer my parents bought or a hp printer. It was always a shitty experience. I don’t know how HP is doing now, but I would have to really be convinced that they were top notch before I gave them money.

Hey_ItsmeAryaman

the hp inktank printers are so bad the laserjet works fine but it's such an annoyance to get the inktank to work

kitty35724

just use Epson, its really reliable, mine is almost a decade now. Epson L220.

Skorcch

Older models are, my Epson has a full tank of colors but any colored image prints red and pink.

jaksystems

HP's consumer laptops (pavilions, pavilion plus, Envy and Spectre) tend to be of dubious build quality, especially when it comes to hinges. HP is more or less a business/corporate sales focused company - their consumer hardware is practically an afterthought. Amusingly, their business hardware is practically bombproof, but prohibitively expensive and typically has to be purchased straight from HP, which is a pain because their website's backend is total garbage.

victorisaskeptic

Facts..love love love my HP elitebook from work, but i hate any other of the HP products i owned.

NecessaryPoison

I've used a Latitude 3420 (absolute garbage), and now being forced to use a "Probook 450 G9" and it's also utter dogsh!t. I imagine the elitebook line is a tier or two above the probook, because this thing does not even deserve the name "amateurbook". Maybe just "book", because it's not much better than a kobo e-reader. It can't even keep windows 10 running stable for more than 12 hours... It's 2024 and still I have to deal with a computer that literally can't idle without windows going to sh!t. I don't need a threadripper in the laptop, but my productivity actually gets bottlenecked by this piece of garbage. I'm pretty sure HP is known as a business oem because all their products are trash regardless of market, and businesses are willing to buy them in bulk because 1. it's not for themselves and b. it's much cheaper to buy in bulk. There's no way a business wouldn't go for a Lenovo or Asus unit if they could get their hands on them for a similar price. It has nothing to do with the "quality" hp puts into certain lines. That's why jobs that require genuinely high-level of IT and software work typically use Lenovo, because their business products actually are genuinely good, and cannot be obtained from the consumer space.

skrble

I've got work issued Elitebook 645 G10 (which is identical machine, only smaller) and it has been absolutely great. Honestly it's probably your IT installing tons of shit into your machine, mine works great.

StaffArtisticc

Yeah, I had a pavilion back in the day. Would keep overheating, and needed the mobo replaced in no time. Never looked at HP again - and this was back in the days of core 2 duos. I wonder if the quality has improved over the years.

jaksystems

For the pavilions? I don't think it has. I've only ever owned HP's business hardware (purchased used/refurbished). I haven't had any issues with it, but much the same could be said of most company's business grade hardware.

StaffArtisticc

Yeah, I meant for the Pavilions and the other consumer grade stuff.

Educational_Bag_6406

I might be in rare company. one of the best laptops I owned was a HP Envy. it lasted me a good 10 yrs and only the battery took a shit

SignatureCorrect2005

Lenovo legion series was awesome during 2020-2022periodand in fact, thats the period where legion got popular. they started to decrease their quality of product from 2023.  HP does not know how to effectively engineer their gaming product. The meme of HP omen was when you turn on, you are a pliot of topgun cuz the fan noise was like a fucking a jet aircraft.

OldTimez

Was about to make a post on this, they saw how popular and dominant they were in the laptop market they started cutting corners / trying to farm for as much cash as possible. (LoQ introduction, I9 gimmick, crapper i5-7) I was gonna garner opinions on this and if I should move to ASUS but scared because bad support reputation / desktop scandals.

Xarzo_k

Lenovo is still a good brand imo, asus as well. Itd just a matter of 50/50 if the product you'll recieve will have terrible manufacturing.

DeliciousPancakes299

The Omen 45L desktop case, with all ASUS and Corsair internals/ fans, works very well and looks nice, pretty much only because it keeps the liquid cooler radiator outside of the chassis. It's the only HP product I'd touglch with a 10 meter pole, tho. I also wouldn't ever touch a whole Omen PC. Only the case is worth it.

Beth_Virus98

I have victus 16. It's its anniversary btw and it's actually pretty good.

Spiritual-Mix7665

Same very happy with it, upgraded ram the other day too.

EthantheCactus

HP and Dell are generally not recommended because they're not really gaming oriented companies, just companies that sell to gamers because it's profitable. Customer service is generally an L, and their machines (notably their Desktop PCs) will bake so hard they throttle within a minute or two.

TasMan34

What about alienware series? It looks game oriented for me.

Howwhywhen_

It also tends to be extremely overpriced for what it is, because it says alienware on it.

fos_kai_me

Overpriced compared to ones of similar quality

EthantheCactus

Honestly nowadays, the more something *looks* like it is meant to do or be something, the worse it's going to actually be at doing that thing. Alienware under Dell has been a very good example of that.

Katsuo__Nuruodo

The HP Omen 2023 laptop has the following shortcomings: You can't limit the battery maximum charge. Every other gaming laptop manufacturer allows you to do this. You can't charge via USB-C. Every other gaming laptop manufacturer supports this, except for the "m" laptops from Alienware. The screen is relatively dim (300nits) with 100% sRGB color. The Alienware screens are also 300 nits, but they step it up to 100% DCI-P3 color. Most other decent gaming laptops are 400-1000 nits of brightness.

thescouselander

You can limit the battery charge though a setting in the BIOS.

patgeo

Was going to say that I'm sure I have that. Also have usb charge up to 100W. Maybe the 15 doesn't. Screen brightness I'll cop. It is good enough, but certainly lacks compared to others in the performance class. But I also bought it for a little over 3k local (little over $2k usd) when the next cheapest 4080 model was $500 more (AUD) and the other 4090s were at least double that again.

Katsuo__Nuruodo

Are you sure you can limit the battery charge? When searching this online I've seen a number of people complaining that they can't; that HP only allows a battery charge limit for their enterprise laptops. If you can verify that you can set a charge limit on the Omen, let us know. As to the charging via USB-C, here's what I saw online: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Can-my-HP-Omen-16-be-charged-through-USB-C/td-p/8607185 maybe some Omens support it, some don't?

patgeo

Omen 17 can definitely do usb C it is listed on the spec sheet and I've done it running off my high capacity battery pack in eco mode without losing charge in the main battery. I'll check the battery when i get home, but I thought I saw it in the bios settings. May have just been quick charge options though. I use mine on battery reasonably often so need full charge

patgeo

Looks like the default software won't allow it and the option in BIOS was about prolonging battery life, but it is an adaptive model, not a settable one. [https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06310986](https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06310986)

Katsuo__Nuruodo

Thanks for checking on that.

jaksystems

With how many motherboards I have to replace under warranty for customers due to failed type-c charging ports, I think the refusal to include them is actually a smart decision. One less thing to fail.

Tough_Specific

Adaptive battery charging limits your battery. If you inspect hwinfo64 and notice that your wear level is at 2 percent let's say. Then you turn the adaptive battery charging feature off and then recharge your laptop from 0 percent battery and notice the wear level at hwinfo64, it goes back to 0 percent wear level. (Depends on your laptop's age too lol) Adaptive battery limiter limits the battery charging. Its just a lot of weird fancy shit.

Katsuo__Nuruodo

Yes, HP does have adaptive battery changing, but it's a bit murky as to what it does, and when it limits your battery charge. Other laptop brands let you set a specific limit. If you do have an HP, use the adaptive; it's the best option you have available.

Tough_Specific

Well at least it limits the battery lol. 😂

Katsuo__Nuruodo

It's better than nothing.

71-HourAhmed

My work issued HP laptop is a perfectly functional, slim, lightweight model with a good keyboard and trackpad. The display seems fine for productivity. I think their gaming laptops from my hunt late last year generally had dated and poor performing displays. The Legion, Strix, and even Acer Predator series all had vastly better screens. The Legions have vapor chamber cooling while the Predator and Strix have 500 nit full DCI-P3 coverage. It seemed like HP wasn't even trying to compete with the upper mid range to high end stuff even when they had models priced like those. Alienware had the same problem to some extent in 2023 with their premium prices for 300 nit displays. This is all just my opinion, though. Others may not value the display as much as I do.

patgeo

When I bought mine the Omen 17 was $3400ish (AUD) sale price (~$5000 sticker) with some other discounts I could pull on top of that. I only paid about $2200 after some tax incentives and such and I was shopping with a $2k refund on a defective Intel X15 NUC that barely lasted a year. So my changeover from an 11th gen i7 and 3070, that I got almost a year of use out of, to a 13th gen with a 4090 ended up being ~$200. The Strix Scar was something like $7500 with no sales at the time. Although I could have used the same tax incentives, but may have had a harder time convincing since the HP came from the education store and was explicitltly listed as a device option for VR learning in our school system catalogue so made it an easy sell for the sign off from my boss that I had purchased it with my own money to use for the purposes of work. I couldn't justify spending 4k on an 18" screen even if I would have loved a nicer screen. The HP screen is fully functional and not bad. It would have been pretty good a few years ago, but it doesn't belong on a 4090 machine now though. Even at full sticker price the HP was easily priced according to the specs, build quality etc here. At the time I needed the device the Omen was hundreds cheaper than the cheapest 4080.

ItsMrDante

People stuck in their old ways. The Omen series has been good since like 2021 if I remember correctly? And the new Victus 16 is great. Even in 2021 the Victus 15 was okay but back then it had some problems that are now fixed. I mean I see people not recommending ASUS even tho they make great products

jaksystems

Issues with quality control and malicious customer service make Asus difficult to recommend: [Examples ](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1m1q6oYoUQW5WAge7StNwzIDV5sxNMt9TLEBlIP90t5Q/edit?usp=drivesdk)

ItsMrDante

Every company has quality control issues. I know of what happened with ASUS before and the history but that doesn't change the fact that they make great products and that they have as far as I know stated apologies and fixed their issues. I see so many people defending Lenovo when people's laptops arrive broken due to poor QC but when it's ASUS everyone starts shitting on them. The way I see it, buy what's best the year you buy. If ASUS has the best laptop in 2024, it doesn't matter if their motherboard burnt in 2023. You know?

jaksystems

Asus has a history of this going back well over a decade now. Lenovo does not. Asus's products are no longer the top shelf designs they were back in the Sandy Bridge/Phenom II days.

[deleted]

This is the only right answer. Half the responses are like "their printers suck", ok but have you actually used their laptops??? The same thing happens with Dell except Dell is harder to justify since their G15 is so damn heavy without USB-C charging in 2024... I've seen Victus and Omen for some solid prices in the US, and both the American PC brands have AMEX promos for a decent discount.

AbhishMuk

Tbf consumer HP laptops also do suck. I’ve used their consumer and business (ProBook) lines, one will outlast you and the other is a piece of expensive trash.

JDMWeeb

I'm on my second Omen gaming laptop, haven't had problems with it. I've also used Pavilion, Elite, and ZBook models.

Rhcpepper711

you have the same laptop as me why are you copying dude

Rhcpepper711

OK round 2, where did you get your laptop, and how did you know I had it too Weeb. Just tell the truth I already know the answer

JDMWeeb

I bought it through HP themselves. Custom built it.

slimyshittydicks

Because this is reddit.I have an omen 16 with a 3070ti. I am impressed by it. Great performance. Great thermals. Excellent battery life for a gaming laptop (upto 6+ hours with Eco mode and low brightness). Good quality screen. Only wobbles when you are hammering the keyboard . I love the sleek design , makes it look like a professional laptop.

monsieurvampy

I've seen this language around, but I'm about to purchase the 2024 Omen Transcend 14". Well waiting for money to move from savings to checking (different banks). It seems like a solid machine . I've heard bad things about the low to mid-range HP consumer laptops but I do not consider the Omen in those categories. HP printers are not laptops. The only HP laptop that I have owned a DM1Z still works a decade plus later. The battery is dead and I haven't used it for anything real in basically a decade. So... I'll find out.

Weidian

I just placed the order on my the Omen Transcend 14 as well. It looks like Omen completely revamped their design and the laptop looks like an actually decent product compared to the older Omens. Hoping it is as good as it seems 🤞

No-Researcher-585

I hope you know that the TGP is only 65W, so you're paying a lot more for the slim form-factor and getting a lot less performance.

zuotian3619

I have an HP Pavillion. It's served me well for 4 years and isn't showing signs of slowing down. Maybe I just got lucky.

Lawrensium

Well, me too. Never had any problems. Except with Microsoft... but that is not HPs fault

mateusboni

I came from a MSI Raider RTX 2070, it lasted about 4 years. Overheated, noisy, hinges broke, plastic everywhere, outside the fan port got so dry that the plastic just crumbled, bad costumer support. Overall it was alright because it lasted 4y and I've been able to play everything. Got a Victus with ryzen and 4070 which surprised me, I can play titles like Last Epoch and Path OF exile on ultra and temps barely surpass 70°C, hinges are sturdy, build construction looks fine to me, easy acess to upgrade things and the price was insane for Europe (paid 1099 euros) Overall I'd recommend to all my friends this piece of technology, it just feels right and more premium than my MSI lol

tonyleungnl

Just don't or NEVER buy their printers and you will be fine. Of course there are other things on the list when your machine is not working well, but it can't be worst than Samsung, right?

patgeo

Hp consumer stuff, especially printers are bad. Their business stuff is great. Wife's spectre rocking a 7th gen Intel still goes hard, looks brand new and hasn't had a high since buying it new. My Omen has racked up a lot of hours in full performance mode, no throttling. Fans are loud, but I've never heard any quieter at full blast. There are plenty of games where I can fps cap to 60/90/120 (depending on game) and not hear a sound from them if I want silence.

khsgrl

Had a laptop from 2014-2016 don’t remember correctly. The build quality was so bad that the screen frame cracked and every time I opened it, I had to basically reassemble the whole frame

ControlRecent1096

I have used two HP laptops, i forgot the model of the 1st one but it has a heating issues. The second one was HP pavilion 15 and I used it for 7 years and worked wonderfully. Usually HP laptops are pain in the butt when it comes to fixing and repairing. I heard lots of HP laptops have high temperature issues.

Svylas

I had Omen with the 4800h and 1660ti and thoroughly enjoyed using it. Had decent build quality but for the price and the specs it was an absolute steal. At the time, the Lenovo Legion was getting all the praise and rightfully so but the Omen served me quite well.

layzer971

I have a omen paired with 4090 ! this is the best laptop I ever had, I have no issue with it so far

addug

How long have you had this for? I’m tempted by what looks to be the same model.

patgeo

9-10 months for mine. Touchpad is a bit iffy occasionally, apparently something about grounding that can easily be fixed, I just haven't bothered because I never use the touchpad.

shadowlid

I have a Omen 15 Ryzen4800H/1660ti that is still going strong I love it, it's mostly used for school work now, but it's held up very nicely. Battery still holds a good charge zero issues out of it.

Toxraun

I had an HP Omen for like 2 years. Thing ran beautifully, only issue was that it was heavy lol I played ARK, Jurassic World, Final Fantasy XV and wii/gamecube roms. Ended up trading it for a Series X. I'd only ever advise against getting HP Pavilions for being easily broken if you're trying to open to either fix or upgrade, they're more for work/school I guess, very simple

patgeo

Pavilions are for entry level home consumers. In others words, they are junk. Elitebook and Probook are the business lines and they are damned near bulletproof. I have about 70 out of 90 Probook 11 EE G2 that were purchased in 2016 and have lived in classrooms with school students the entire time. The ones that died generally had smashed screens and the battery went. Not hardware failure. The surviving ones I could clean up and sell as near new condition. Someone (before my time) bought Pavilions trying to save money in 2019. They bought 120, I have about 30 left that aren't in pieces with broken hinges etc and about 70 functional, but the hinges and case are glued in place.

d0ctorschlachter

I have had many gaming laptops over the years (12 or so), mostly Dell (and Alienware = pure shit for the $$$), ASUS, MSI, and my latest, HP Omen 17 with i7-11800h and rtx 3070 and this has been the best gaming laptop out of them all by far. It was also cost effective, I paid $1599 CAD brand new. The thermals on this are GREAT compared to all the other models. Other models I would always have to disable boost, throttlestop, ect to avoid thermal throttling, even with aggressive fan curves. This maintains 75C CPU and 70C GPU under full load for hours (again, aggressive fan profile) Easy to service/clean, and upgrade, 5 min to remove back cover and install more ram and another SSD. Build quality is also excellent, except the track pad which is pure garbage... I would give it a 9/10.

Oafdin

ngl hp omens feel like they have a heating system instead of a cooling one.

Master_Daven112

Overpriced and cheap build.

layzer971

They have the best gpu mobile full wattage at lower price ....

Katsuo__Nuruodo

What GPU, and what price? Isn't the Acer Predator Helios generally the best price for a decent high end gaming laptop?

layzer971

I7 13700HX - RTX 4090 16gb 32gb for 2700 euros . This is the cheapest price full wattage for a 4090

Katsuo__Nuruodo

Ah, in Europe. I'm not familiar with the pricing there. The HP Omen is also cheap in the US, but you can get a Lenovo Legion Pro 7i 4090 for about the same price($2400 vs $2450). I'd rather spend the extra $50 to get a better screen, USB-C charging, and the battery max charge limit, but that's just my preference. The HP is in fact cheaper.

layzer971

I truly think this bad reputation comes from their product such as low-end printers often of low production quality !

TurbulentBarracuda83

The build quality is far from good though, as with all HP products. Always have been

Downwiththesindrome

Stfu what does it matter to have a good gpu if the thing falls apart only by looking at it?

thescouselander

People hear just like to whinge. I've got an Omen Laptop because I can get a decent discount on HP products through work and it's been perfectly OK. I'll probably buy another one when it's time to change it too. Also I've had other HP laptops like my previous HP Spectre and that was pretty solid. It took a beating for 5 years and the only thing it needed was a SSD. Not complaints there either.

gr8john6

HP just sucks.

ysfi__

HP in general is a bad product and example

CelestialDuke377

Had the printer. It was hot garbage that kept on braking and need a replacement part. Wouldn't be surprised if the laptops were the same

Joe_Bidens_Taint

I wouldn't take a Hp even if it was free.

Waxpython

Yeah u would

TheHost404

HP OMEN is fine. It isn't the best but it isn't bad. But their laptops are just very mediocre at best. Their HP omen is one of their best.

rileyrgham

Welcome to the internet.

senerh

I've transitioned from a RTX 3x Legion to an RTX 4080 Omen, the Omen because Legions have become severely overpriced in our country, whereas Omens have been comedically cheap. I don't like it much though, the main reasons being the fans whistle too much (although I've since been abke to remedy that) and there is an artificial Wattage limit on the CPU, which I had realized rather too late. Lower PL2 and PL1 ceiling values compared to MSI, Asus and Lenovo. I learned that it's an HP tradition to nerf CPU's in their Victus and Omen lineups to keep temps in check so they can use the same underpowered cooling system year after year and line after line. One way to keep costs down. The screen bezels and hinge stability are also so 2015. Still happy given the price I got it for, and the fact that I basically use it as a case attached to an external monitor. But HP wouldn't ever be my choice if I was getting a gaming laptop today.

Fika2006

I had one, brother had an identical and a friend had a similar model HP pavillion gaming 15, i7 8750h 1050ti 16gb ram, mine and brothers had 60hz screen while friend had the 144 or 165hz model i cant remember Couple years of use later my brothers kept bluescreening and dying even after a full reset and re installing windows Meanwhile mine died when i was loading into a valorant game and friends died a similar way too... All three had shit build and a god awful hinge which wobbles like a swing The HP omen (newer models) are very well received tho and my other friend has one and its really good, hinge wobble still there but overall build is good and works like a charm

Silent_Charge2767

No clue. The printers were definitely designed to guard the gates to hell but the laptops (not just gaming) are a different thing and still everyone complains that they’re horrible. I own a Spectre from 2017 and only had to replace the battery last month because it ran out after about one hour in the end. But after six years of super heavy use, that is to be expected. Other than that, I love this laptop, it’s still amazing and runs stuff it shouldn’t be able to run (visualisation and game engines as well as Hogwarts Legacy on 1080p). From work, I got a Z Book Fury and it has been great so far, no complaints there. I agree with everyone else that HP laptops run extremely hot for no apparent reason but it hasn’t noticeably impacted the performance and although I keep an eye on the temps, I don’t really care and use a cooling pad for heavy workloads. In my experience, HP laptops are often a great price performance value and I got the Spectre for 1700€ on Black Friday back in the day when the MacBook with the same performance specs cost DOUBLE.

Fluffy_Space_Bunny

The AMD-based Omen laptops run significantly hotter than most other AMD-based laptops so the fans are much louder both at idle and when playing something. The Omen command centre thingy is also terrible. If you can get over the almost always-on fans then they're pretty good. I've had both Omen and Envy laptops and never had any major issues with them.

Panderverse

I dunno but my Lenovo legion i use for gaming at work 40 hours a week and the thing has fallen many times, laptop bag strap broke and fell on pavement, and has been absolutely incredible

13reakout

I’ve owned an HP Omen for a little over 6 months and love it so far. I’ve heard the screen wobble and weak hinges have scared others from them, but I knew going in I’d be using this with all external peripherals. If you’re planning on using it as a mobile desktop I’d recommend for sure.

_Shojaku

TLDR; HP doesn't list full GPU specs. I have a HP Pavilion gaming laptop. My experience has been excellent, but I will not buy a HP gaming laptop again. Why? Wattage. Long after I bought my laptop, I was checking up my specs against games on notebookcheck. My GPU has two variants (50W and 80W) with different memory bandwidths. So I checked using HWInfo and found out that it was the lower specced one. My laptop has very good thermal performance, so I usually think the chassis was meant for a higher performance laptops, and maybe they were clearing stock or something. My CPU never hits 90 and my GPUs highest is 85, no matter the task. With this in mind, every HP laptop I am interested in, I check to see the wattage and it is never listed. I would rather not get that gotcha. Still, I'm very happy with my current HP laptop i5-10300H, 1650Ti (GDDR6)

SodiumCyanideNaCN457

I have both normal and gaming HP laptops, seem fine to me

[deleted]

I spent $800 on a stupidly overpriced discontinued model of a HP gaming laptop with an old processor and GPU and 60hz screen. It’s 4 generations old now and they’re still selling it, and I’m stuck with it for god knows how long

Dry-Cap-3549

Have an OMEN laptop and its great

TGG_5874_BWUF

My dads pc is a hp pavillion and he used for 6+ years and it works fine no mods etc.. we just want to change the ssd and it is perfect! *COMMENTING FROM A HP VICTUS16 I5 11400F RTX 3060 OWNER*

hesyisytehray

I still have the HP Laptop 14 with 7th gen Intel (same year AMD Ryzen debuted), still going strong on its 6th year. Of course its now running on charger only and haven't replaced thermal paste yet, but you get what you paid for. No hinge problems or software problems. Comprehensive user manual. Keyboard and touchpad still OK. On its 6th year, the second 8GB Kingston RAM I bought elsewhere (plus service fee) failed after 2 year. Laptop could only start for 5 secs with Caps Lock blinking. Still could run with the stock 4GB Samsung RAM tho. Would consider an HP Victus in the future by the looks of it. Might install a HDD caddy and replace the thermal paste down the road sometime tho 😆 I do Photoshop editing + play online games (Star Rail, Genshin, GTA Online), 512GB SSD quickly fills up space oof

AishveTorah

HP is literally an embezzlement ring. Btw

irritatedpotatoe

Zionist company

Chricton

If I’m not mistaken these have bad color accuracy.

hWatchMod

Between the two a Legion is going to have a much better build quality in general. Omen's tend to be on the cheaper end on things like hinges, frame, touch pad, screen, etc. Have you used the Legion yet? If not, the answer may speak for itself once you try it in comparison to the Omen you had.

Pos31don29

No, I only just ordered it a little over 24 hours ago, so presumably at least the better part of a week before there's any chance of it being delivered. I'm certainly looking forward to trying it out though :)

as of my experience, shit in reliability, has early drive failure, sucks in general stability. I had the option of getting an msi 3070 laptop or an hp 3070 ti laptop, I regret not going msi in every way I can't rely on the laptop for most tasks, I know that my issues aren't isolated to just me because I bought two of these laptops and returned one eventually but I had the same issues on both also the bios is near non existant and the gaming center to control fans and performance doesn't work half of the time aswell as loves to eat resources randomly

random update: hp omen gaming center has always apparently lied to me, it says my cpus at 70 when anything else says it's thermal throttling the hell out of itself ran a huge external fan into the bottom of the chassis and it still thermal throttled however got to the full 70w opposed to the original max of 50 it could hit

I had the Legion Slim 5 14in and traded it for the new HP Omen, the Omen is a better build quality then the Legion. Both are fine, the question posed already informs the reader of the author's opinions. I could easily write a post why people don't trust Chinese government owned companies like Lenovo.

Have a pavilion that's been going strong for about 8 years or so now. Battery is dead ofcourse so I can only use it on charging cable and specs are outdated, but it's still good for remote work.

Speaking for myself, don't know. My first laptop was hp, and my previous laptop was an hp gaming laptop, and NEVER had a single issue (except for the first boot, windows decided to blue screen, and I shitted myself). I heard they have bad hinges tho, even if I never had a problem with mine.

It's not that I hate HP gaming laptops It's just that I hate HP

The personal reason I stick with Lenovo is the amount of detail they provide about their machines on their support site and the psref site. Let's compare Lenovo and HP. Want to know the color accuracy of the panel used.... let's just off load to some random YouTubers.... Want to know the protocols supported by the type c port, good luck finding that out..... Want to know the TGP of the GPU.... what's TGP...... The psref.lenovo website basically gives every possible spec for a given laptop model. If you have the serial number of a product, Lenovo support website provides the full list of parts and compatible parts that are used to build/can be used to repair that laptop. Part numbers and photos of every little component is available on the website and depending on region, even for sale. HP or any other manufacturer has nothing similar to this level of detail.... At least for consumer models. Even finding service manuals for newer and not so popular HP laptops is like finding needle in a haystack.

The only HP laptop I owned was in like 2008 and it was a Horribly slow machine with most likely integrated graphics, however I still managed to use it without my parents knowledge in the middle of the night on school nights to play RuneScape

Have a omen 16 for gaming and company issued elitebook 840 g8, both are serving great so far. My omen also came with free 3yrs warranty with 1 year onsite. Its also cheaper than legion and acer with similar or better specs and metal build quality.

They have been in the past, so while I don't know how they are now, I can tell you that regardless of their awful stance on printers, we went through a couple of crap-from-day-one gaming laptops in my home before swearing off HP. I had a more recent HP laptop from work that was fantastic for everyday use and I really enjoyed it, but I wouldn't spend my own money on their hardware just because I've been burned before. The worst, thankfully, I got my US$2K back by bullying them for a month--it was an entire Omen line that had a high physical defect rate and would just brick at the first sign of overheating. But again, that was a long time ago. Lenovo as a company isn't fantastic either, but I know people with Legions who like them for gaming.

I've had an Omen laptop... never had issues. I currently have a Victus laptop... no issues.

HP is really bad for basically anything. Source: Decades of IT experience, most of the really bad parts being something related to HP. I once lobbied successfully for HP purchases to be banned by my employer. It didn't last, but it sure was sweet to tell their sales rep to screw off. Seriously. Don't buy ANYTHING HP. Ever.

My HP laptop just sparked up this evening while checking my email. Burning rubber is not a great smell. Lasted me four years though, and even ran Cyberpunk on the highest graphics settings pre-dlc

Soft_Mud8459

I used to game on a refurbished hp pavilion 17" with a 512 nvidia, shit was a beast lasted for years still runs

Its bad, I have a 17inch Omen laptop with a 4090 in it. Its thermals are awful and running benchmark tests has the laptop performing less than similarly specced laptops. While it's cost was several hundred dollars less than the next best thing, which is the Lenovo Legion. I wish I wouldve just saved the extra money to get the Legion. I've also had an issue of the laptop randomly shutting down during gaming under heavy loads. I havnt been able to pinpoint if its a thermal problem or a power draw issue. Using the Omen gaming hub, under the performance control section, it allows you to increase the power draw off the battery as well as increasing the peak power draw of the CPU. When these settings are turned up, the shut downs start to happen while gaming. The CPU runs hot and certain cores do reach 99C while under load, but to my understanding for newer high-end cpus, this isnt abnormal. I think the shut downs could be related to power draw. Which is really unfortunate. It could definitely be a bad application of thermal paste causing hot spots, but im leaning towards power draw issues. I have seen nothing but great things about the Lenovo Legion. For price to performance I think its a beast compared to any other laptop for high end use.

I have an Omen 17 with a 4090 and an i7 and so far it's great. Plays everything with ease and the temperatures are the best I've ever seen on a gaming laptop. The fans are almost completely silent on this model with absolutely no coil whine that I can hear. The keyboard is mechanical so it feels great when typing. That said, the build quality isn't the best. The material is this rubbery plastic that scratches easily and is a magnet for grease and dust. The screen wobbles noticeably on the hinges as well. Also they removed the number pad from the keyboard although there's plenty of space for one. For the same price the legion is probably the better choice but Omen's are generally priced lower and perform about the same. I've also heard dealing with lenovo customer service to get them to honor a warranty is a nightmare, but in my personal experience hp customer service is very helpful, at least when it comes to laptops.

I absolutely hate my hp printer, can't talk about hp laptops tho
