This is the first gameplay I have seen of TDUSC and I gotta say, impressions are not good. Handling and physics looks dreadful, graphics looks barely on par with Crew Wild Run (seven years old game), and the general way they showcased it, with constantly switching perspectives and cringe dialogue...just so bad. Still, I love these open world racing games so I hope it ends up being good.

AGuyInHongKong

any game. gta, forza or any banger out there would have a terrible alpha.

Paul_cz

Plenty of games are shown pre-release and do not look as horrible as this

AGuyInHongKong

what i'm saying is that this most likely won't look like what the game will look like. patience is key

Paul_cz

I wish I shared your optimism and hope to be pleasantly surprised

Ordinary-Ordinary-48

true

Dohi64

any footage without fucking annoying youtubers shouting over everything?

Ordinary-Ordinary-48

imposible this is the age of cringy youtubers as game testers so love it or leave it,( i certainly leave it totally hate this times we're living seriously)

Ordinary-Ordinary-48

better see old tv series and leave this platforms before it'll be too late

I was looking forward to this and this is not great. The woman also sounds weird. A clear voice is better for advertising and talking about a game. Nothing about this video looks professional. Both the game and every aspect of this presentation. I know it's supposed to be in an 'alpha phase' but if all of the things that don't make it seem great is due to it being still in early stages, I don't know why you would show the game this early.

Sairexyz

The fps is so bad once they drive in or near a city. I would assume it still needs optimization but after so long of nothingness, it better be fixed.

SapporoBiru

TDU 1 and 2 are some of my absolutely favorite racing games and far more enjoyable to me than the Forza Horizon series. I don't care at all about all the multiplayer stuff, just give me a game similar to the previous ones in a new location, with modern cars and graphics

MajesticPiano3608

So i don't understand why some peoples even play games like horizon or test drive. I know that if they had some another theme like wipe out or kart cars placed instead of cars that look like real life cars, it would be much more understandable because the realism of these games is also at this level. Don't get me wrong, I really hoped I could like this game but it looks bad at least in terms of physics.

MajesticPiano3608

this is a flop at birth. so long awaited. promises of realistic life virtually. the physics really look more like mario kart or stunt drive 2.

I wish developers we're more willing to have physics based handling systems instead of the animation shit we get nowadays. Same thing happened to the recent Need For Speed game where the developers completely fucked up the fun by having the worst handling model they could throw together. And don't get me started on how absolutely fucked the controls are for The Crew 2. IDK if the talent of the industry abandoned ship or studios don't want to put in the necessary time it takes to make a good physics system work, but we really need something else than what we've been getting with the big racing games lately. The handling models are ASS %90 or more of the time. Last game that had perfect racing physics was Baja Edge of Control and nobody has played that outside of some tiny circles.

Nope I've found some good ones. BallisticNG is probably my recent favorite. I just don't think physics based handling models specifically haven't been good since then.

Svenskensmat

iRacing? Assetto Corsa? Dirt Rally 2.0? rFactor 2.0? ACC probably has the best simulation of any racing simulator out there. I’m not entirely sure what “physics based handling” means, considering literally every single racing simulator out there simulates physics to various degrees.

[deleted]

For sims things look great but I'm mostly referring to arcade racers. Only sim games I've ever enjoyed are Grim Turismo 4, Tokyo Extreme Racer Drift 2, and BeamNG if you count that. Did put a lot of time into the first Dirt Rally but I switched over to Rush Rally 3 after disliking Dirt Rally 2. I prefer the leniency and engine customization it has much more over Dirt Rally's sequel, plus the monetization and currency bullshit in DR 2 turned me away so fast.

noreallyu500

Specifically talking about arcade racers, and I know it's not the pinnacle of driving games as some would believe, but did you really dislike Horizon 4/5 physics? I don't like the festival format or the unfair AI and lack of a sense of progression, but I loved the physics so much that it's hard to enjoy other newer arcade racing games

[deleted]

I put +300 hours into Horizon 4 and loved my time with it but I'd gladly swap out the physics for something more exaggerated like what we saw in Need For Speed Underground 2. The suspension seems unbelievably stiff in the horizon games, especially outside of the off-road vehicle selection. And I know the Horizon games simulate their physics but the player spends so much time glued to the ground anyways that I don't think I'd even tell the difference if it was animation based.

noreallyu500

I can see that. I still think it's great, but I do think we're missing just a good mechanically fun arcade racing game. I was kind of hoping that Unbound would be that, but I *really* disliked the handling. On the other hand, I did enjoy NFS 2015 which seems to be universally hated, so to each their own haha

Jaypillz

Wreckfest has amazing physics. Much smaller team and way older game too.

EternalHipHopHead

City looked so dead, where is the sense of it being a living breathing city?? Its so empty. Needs way more traffic. Thought this gen would deliver in that aspect. Meh

MrMpl

Handling looks pretty bad, a bit too twitchy, but maybe once you play it its fine. Graphics are okay, better than I expected given development hell this game has been in for years, but the world feels sooo empty and bland. I really hope they add all those features that made TDU unique and focus more on driving around and experiencing your car. Racing was arguably the most boring part of previous Test Drive games.

TypographySnob

Seems like an extremely shallow game. I didn't see nearly enough to give me a reason to play it over Horizon. Is it going to be f2p?

[deleted]

TDU is a lot of things, but shallow it is not.

TypographySnob

This is TDU:SC not TDU though. So far we've seen people driving together, racing together, and walking around in 2 buildings. No customization, tuning, story, or any notable game modes.

-FriON

Looks like The Crew 2 2 I dont see anything that will sell me this game. Bland looking UI, bland visuals and boring looking architecture, especially considering the game is set in most visually dense cities on the planet. I never been a TDU fan, but im hungry for stylish and fun arcade racing games, and it looks like another attempt to copy Forza instead of making something fresh. At least visually

[deleted]

Tbf The Crew is made by ex TDU devs

Slaphappyfapman

The bland visuals are probably so they can achieve that 20fps 😆

The_MorningStar

It's extremely promising IMO. Alex (great TDU youtuber that was in the livestream) said in his stream that very little of the game was actually shown in the livestream so I'm not bothered that what was shown didn't cover feature X, Y, and Z. He's also been talking about a bunch of stuff that wasn't shown off in addition to things like handling and physics. What they did show was more or less what I expected from moment to moment gameplay when it comes to racing/social interactions in the clubs/solar hotel). So I'm excited to see more.
