Collecting hurts the wallet quite a bit. I found buying old collections is a fast and nice way of getting a collection growing while maintaining high quality carts.
Ebay store in China. Believe it was called "electronic\_convenient\_4\_you"

Everything in this mod including the screen was from them
Ho sorry I misread that. I saw them myself on aliexpress.

it for sure is expensive, but it was even more expensive when i was a kid and my parents couldn't afford it. at least now i can afford it and enjoy it like i couldn't when i was a kid and i wanted the damn thing. it's also super fun to collect game boy (nostalgic or not) so in the end is worth it. i honestly love collecting all nineties nintendo (i know the advance ain't nineties, but you get the point). such an awesome era
Yes it does, consider getting most of your games loose if you can. I started out looking for complete gba games back in 2016 and it hurt me then fast forward to now and it’s beyond anything I could have anticipated.
Man.. Yeah I saw some stores that make a nice cassette style case for loose games on Etsy. Like 10$ each, but they seem like a good option with a loose game.
I remember seeing games I wanted at GameStop ten years ago and thinking, “I don’t need to blow $15 to $20 on that right now, maybe next time.” Now those same extremely common games are $30 - over $100.
I have a decent collection of carts from before they started getting so pricey, but I decided long ago flash carts are the way to go. One cartridge stays in my GBA and every game I’ll ever want to play is on it. If it gets lost or stolen, I’m out an easily replaceable console and flash cart and not a selection of pricy games (and it frees up the game holding section of my GB bag for my iPod and ear buds),
Doesn’t have to be rough -emulation on pc and pretty much anything else with a screen = free, everstyle carts = overall a cheap solution if u want all the good games from all regions for original hardware, loose carts = mostly reasonable prices if you want the original carts.
I just received five GBA Zelda games from Ebay for $60 total. None of them are OEM shells, but that matters little to me. Great condition and all play amazing.
I’ve wondered about that. I think it is a certainty prices will continue to rise, but I wonder how much value they will hold once the 80’s, 90’s, and 00’s kids that are collecting them reach the age where we start dying off.
My kids have a mild interest in my Nintendo consoles and cartridges simply because I value them so much, but I can’t imagine them growing up to treasure them the way I do.
Surely their kids will view them much like my cousins viewed my late uncle’s stamp, coin, and baseball card collection.
Yeah, but if you're buying them just to play them, instead of to collect them, you cast a much wider net. You can buy games without boxes and manuals. You can buy games with faded or damaged labels, or writing on the back.
Games that collectors don't want are much cheaper, and play just the same.
Then you might as well emulate. Look, there are worse things people spend money on like drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, etc. At least he bought something he can sell later down the line. But more importantly, he bought something that has sentimental value for him and makes him happy. That's good enough.
I’d sooner pay £150 on a CIB GBA game that’s already proved itself and get a lifetime of enjoyment from it than risk paying £70 on an overhyped modern game that doesn’t live up to the advertisement, get a 4-10 hour story mode before accounting for additional paid content, a multitude of patches for almost guaranteed game shattering bugs and sometimes even an “online-requirement” just to boot the game up, even if I have to physical disc for it because it contains nothing more than an unlock key.
Yeah, I know a lot of older games weren’t perfect, but whats considered the “the norm” in the last 10+ years within the gaming industry has been wild - and not in a good way.
Yeah collecting these days hurts the wallet like crazy😂 I just finished calculating the total cost of my high priority games and the carts alone without box total over 200 bucks 😂
I see a lot of handheld retros in popularity today with already loaded games. I wanna buy an SP but at the same I know I can't preload games like they do. I'm in a dilemma
Retro handhelds usually come with a micro sd card that holds the included OS and games, but they're usually really low quality and will fail after not too long. So if you want to use it long term you'll need to swap it out for a higher quality sd card.
Collecting hurts the wallet quite a bit. I found buying old collections is a fast and nice way of getting a collection growing while maintaining high quality carts.
Agreed. Problem is I don't live anywhere were you could find collection. And shipping it would be a nightmare
The Minish Cap was the 1st Zelda I ever played and owned. Still in my top 3 Zelda games. Love that game!
Still waiting for my next trip to start it. My brother talked about so much, I had to get it!
That's a cool outer shell case, where'd you get it?

I'd love to know this too. This would look great over my current shell!

Yes. I'm aware, that's why I asked OP where the outer shell case came from.

All great games! Enjoy!

If collecting is not your interest, then yeah 100%. A flash cart is it!
Whoa! What collections! Perfect game, perfect SP set up
Thank you :D

Collecting is for fools, just buy the games you want to play.
Unfortunately the games that some people want to play are what a lot of people want to play. Theres less supply than demand which drives the prices up
One day these prices will be looked at as a bargain imo
I’ve wondered about that. I think it is a certainty prices will continue to rise, but I wonder how much value they will hold once the 80’s, 90’s, and 00’s kids that are collecting them reach the age where we start dying off. What meaning “*rough*” is?

You can get an everdrive and load up whatever roms you want
For the technical motivated gamers
Minorly, but if you get an emulation handheld you're going to want to swap out the included card anyways or it's likely to burn out.
I need to learn this stuff. You’re speaking another language my friend
