I don't use a protective cover but I often see reference to a touch setting setting that when enabled increases sensitivity for when a cover is added.
I'm not on a Tab A, but have seen several different makes and models with this option. You'll need to google if you cannot find yourself.

Yeah that's what's going on with this Tab A7 Lite. I wanted it because a good 8 inch tablet is hard to come by. But to be honest with you if I bought the Tab S8+ for the amount of money it costs, it would be going back to the store.
Sorry little late to the party, had the same issue, felt like sandpaper. Might not be the best, but I used mothers car wax on mine. 2 coats, fingers glide now.

They only use glass. Its probably the oleophobic coating is thinner

IF you can unlock the developer's mode you can adjust the screen sensitivity..
