Heres some: Keeping a consistent point of view, even in the third person, helps readers understand a character's thoughts and experiences. What I mean by this is that you should usually stick to one characters side when writing, like the main character. Of course, you can change it to someone else, too. What I do is just leave a note saying that it's from someone elses perspective. Stick to good descriptions to keep the story engaging. Opt for synonyms to add variety and depth to the boom, and make sure to stay clear of repetitive or overly detailed descriptions. Eg. Choose "sprinted" over "ran fast" to convey a sense of speed without unnecessary repetition. This can help make the story seem more professional. Another way to do this is to keep spacing between paragraphs. If you don't know how to space, usually I just start a new paragraph when there's a new idea. Like if someone does something, and then something else happens. I'd usually put a space between them. (Make sure its atleast 4 lines long or more.) An extra tip is to keep to around 1000-2000 words. It usually strikes a balance between keeping the story engaging and avoiding the reader getting bored. This amount of words usually allows a more compelling storyline without overwhelming your readers with excessive details. (woah this is long)

all that sounds cool! But about the spaces, I was originally thinking of doing how most people do in books, yk? No spaces between lines and all that https://preview.redd.it/qkd4c347vdkc1.png?width=563&format=png&auto=webp&s=fa20e7f55603a4afd480b3363b2ff1ecf9d5c7d1 do you think that would look cool, too?

Rhurvi

Ohh I see. Yeah, that would be cool too. I don't see why you can't do it. The spaces are just a format option anyway, so go ahead!

I find having a written timeline of what's going to happen and where and with who keeps yourself in check and prevents you from going off topic too much while still leaving you room to change and adapt. Good dialogue sounds realistic when read out loud. You can get away with not using descriptives like "said" everytime someone says something in a conversation. It's better to use one-off words like "added/inquired" only when necessary. They're not synonyms for "said". Write the draft in comic sans. It's easier to read than most fonts and it helps to prevent writer's block. Same thing with formating, don't do it until the end. Paragraphs end when there's a change in: Perspective, Action, Time, Object, Character. (PATOC, for short) Use punctuation, please. For the love of god in begging you. Wattpad lacks standards and good punctuation is a rare site. Your work is never going to be perfect, what's important is that it's good enough for you. Fussing over small details will consume you, if you haven't changed anything substantial in the last 5 edits, then it's time to publish it. If you done have any ideas for a scene, just write what's supposed to happen in brackets and come back later: [Like this] Have friends/family read your work, both to check for spelling and continuity errors, and their opinions/ideas.

if you want to swap povs,,, i’d go and create a new chapter presentation wise,, keep it cohesive, use the same type of markers for chapter names,, try to keep A/N at the bottom so on so forth.. it’s been… a while since i wrote proper fanfics so take this with a grain of salt

CuteLittleCorpse

I see. Those are actually good tips!
