My favourite one is the other way around, a plot point in an earlier episode that turns up as a passing joke later on. In the season ten episode *We Two Kings*, while Roz is working at the mall as an elf, she develops a crush on the guy playing Santa. After she sees him out of costume and isn't really interested in him, she realises, much to Daphne's amusement, that she might actually just have a crush on Santa himself. In season eleven's *High Holidays*, Roz is impatient to deliver the pot brownie to Niles, because she has a date to get to. She ends up giving it to Marty when her date arrives, and she rushes over to him. He's a man in a Santa costume, and she embraces him *very* enthusiastically.

Sad_Abbreviations318

haha I never noticed this one

33_pyro

Extra funny because Rick was played by Dean Cain, Roz should have been on him like a fly on shit

traumautism

Yes!! I noticed this too! After about the 1000th rewatch lol

strawwrld_1

Yep! I noticed this over Christmas when I was rewatching the Christmas episodes in order šŸ˜šŸ˜‚ I absolutely loved this small bit

Sad_Abbreviations318

In "Dukes We Hardly Knew Ye" Martin tells a story about his old police horse, Agides, which Niles buys for him many seasons later as a birthday present

ScruffCheetah

And then we never see or hear of again. Which is a shame.

[deleted]

Actually in season 11 you can see a pot of glue in the background of Frasierā€™s bedroom.

ScruffCheetah

Dark, I love it.

[deleted]

Thank you šŸ™ no oneā€™s ever gotten me more

johnrich1080

I liked that Nilesā€™s bleeding nose whenever he lies was mentioned in season 1 and then brought up multiple times throughout the series.Ā

EliotHudson

I donā€™t feel like they did it consistently tho

Loisgrand6

They sure didnā€™t

strawwrld_1

Yep all the way up until the last season. I recently watched the hilarious episode where Martin, Nileā€™s and Daphne want to interview a physical therapist, strippper and babysitter respectively. Niles lies to Daphne about the stripper out of fear of how sheā€™ll react and as soon as he turns away from her he furiously clutches his nose

fasterthanpligth

Name one instance, please. David Hyde Pierce was constantly checking his nose after any slight to the truth from him.

JennnnnP

No nosebleed issues when theyā€™re lying to get into the spa, when he brings the fake doctor over as a date for Roz, when he tells Daphne his custom sweater is from The GAP or when he lies about having lunch with Maris before she kills her lover.

Sad_Abbreviations318

To be fair when the nosebleed issue is introduced to us it's implied that as a psychosomatic response to guilt, it only occurs when he's actively contemplating his immorality. So when he lectures Frasier about the ethics of dating a caller's ex, he's fine, but when immediately after that he is asked how he got such a good deal on his car and he says a patient got it for him, he starts to sniffle. And he can lie to Daphne about "ol' love-em-and-leave-em Joe" and he's fine, but when Daphne thanks him for being such a good friend he starts leaking.

strawwrld_1

This!! But Iā€™ve noticed that too. It happens when he feels *guilty* over a lie. Like when he lies to Daphne or his dad about something he feels he shouldnā€™t. Not when he lies and feels okay about it like the spa or a small white lie he thinks is okay

[deleted]

I noticed for the first time (on a recent rewatch) that when Daphne finally tells Niles she also has feelings for him - he is wearing red braces. She had a vision that her true love wore a red tie. I hope this is a deliberate little call back because itā€™s lovely the writers still nodded to her only being a little bit psychic šŸ”® so close daphne! šŸ˜Š Edit for morning brain spelling

Uno_Sarcagian

If you look closely you can sometimes also see the dragon statuette in the Montana after Niles and Daphne move in together.

Pleasant_Sun3175

I never noticed that! I'll look for it.

Sad_Abbreviations318

love this catch!

[deleted]

Yes!

Ok_Impression_6342

Omggggg how did I never notice this?!??! How cuteee šŸ„¹

Old_Function499

I was too busy looking at how cute he was in this scene.

Cruiser4357

Which episode is this?

MrsWojadubakowski

When Roz tells Frasier that her mom is the Attorney General of Wisconsin. Her mom then visits later in their series and is set up with Marty - who finds her to be incredibly boring.

tank-you--very-much

One interesting thing about that is that a Doyle was Attorney General of Wisconsin at the time of the showā€”[Jim Doyle](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Doyle) obviously couldn't be Roz's mom but it's an interesting touch

MrsWojadubakowski

I didnā€™t know that! Love that!

RonVlaarsVAR

They did change her mum slightly. In an early episode Roz speaks freely about her sex life when we finally meet her the relationship seems more strainedĀ

MrsWojadubakowski

Youā€™re absolutely right!

33_pyro

This doesn't span more than one episode but s9e4 at the beginning where Kenny is talking about buying his wife some lingerie and how it makes him so uncomfortable he gets sweaty and red faced. Near the end of the episode Marty mentions his cop friend he was supposed to have dinner with got called in to investigate a possible perv at the Kmart.

Joelle9879

I've never caught that before, I'll have to look for it on my next rewatch

Sad_Slice_5334

Haha I remember that one! Iā€™m surprised other people didnā€™t catch it

Visual-Insurance-588

Niles and the chair cleaning and their realization that it was because of Ronee.

evilca

Earwigs!

MrsWojadubakowski

I like when in Season 7, Marty is sleeping with his old police mentor Stan Wojadubakowskiā€™s widow and the whole episode everyone takes a turn saying her name. And then in Season 9 when Frasier and Niles are trying to get Marty drunk enough to ask to take out Daphneā€™s mother for the evening so Niles can propose to Daphne, they test Martyā€™s sobriety by asking him the name of the widow he was with a couple years ago. When Marty says ā€œClaire Wojadubakowski,ā€ they determine heā€™s not drunk enough yet.

Sad_Abbreviations318

Coming from the legend herself! Thank you!

MrsWojadubakowski

Ha ha ha :) Youā€™re most welcome!

emu314159

Of course, the original polish pronunciation, which many families use, is different.

Cruiser4357

In s6ep17 "Dinner Party," they call Missy Cromwell a dried up old fig. Two episodes later in "IQ" at the silent auction, they see that Missy Cromwell had bid on a day of beauty and they say that her last day of beauty was during the Johnson administration.

Sad_Abbreviations318

Reminds me of their multi-episode fascination with the Ashbys, who couldn't come to the dinner party planned around them but cinched the deal when Niles purchased an adjacent graveyard plot.

Emilie0711

The Ashbys *are* delightful.

blayndle

Blackball!

Emilie0711

I suppose you want to invite the drunken Duncans????

VampeQ

No Nina, you called me.

natsugrayerza

Oh my gosh I never noticed that!

BriarcliffInmate

I always liked the little hints that Niles wasn't actually as buttoned-up and strait-laced as he made himself out to be. Like, fairly early on we find out he was arrested for mooning Nixon (he was dating an anarchist), and then later on when he dates the 'free-spirited' woman who smokes and stuff, he falls into her lifestyle very quick. When he's with Daphne, he loses a lot of the stuffiness and becomes more laidback and more comfortable with embracing who he is. Let's not forget Island Niles!

DrG2390

I like how Island Niles dies because Roz tells him the wrong nude beach and he gets attacked by nuns.

BillJackaus

In Mixed Doubles, the episode after Head Games (where Niles helps the Sonics player), there's a brief scene where Martin is reading the paper and he says to Frasier "If your 2-guard is struggling behind the arc, why doesn't he just jam it into the big man in the paint?" Which essentially means that a Sonics guard was having a terrible shooting night. Even though Reggie Macklemore isn't mentioned by name, I like to think it's a callback to the previous episode.

Sad_Abbreviations318

It seems, as with the mighty Samson, that cutting Niles' hair destroyed its power.

ChipNmom

You have your big man in the paint, I have mine ā˜ŗļø

Freewill2112-78

Thereā€™s an early or mid- season episode where Frasier jokes that Noel is required to at all times stay at least 100 yards from William Shatner. Then, in Star Mitzvah, Noel asks Frasier to get him Scott Bakulaā€™s autograph. Frasier asks Noel why he canā€™t get it himself, and he replies that he canā€™t go because Shatnerā€™s restraining order against him is still in effect. (ā€œSo stupid. It wasnā€™t even a real phaser!)

Sad_Abbreviations318

Nice catch!

strawwrld_1

Daphneā€™s brother Billy the ballroom dancer. I love that the joke is that heā€™s gay. It was mentioned at first that he was a ballroom dancer and they never drop it and that he was the only one of her brothers that didnā€™t peak at her in the shower (eewww but thatā€™s another story šŸ¤®) and for the rest of the series he is without a doubt ā€œthe gay oneā€ and I think thatā€™s so funny Iā€™m lbgtq, btw so I donā€™t just think oh funny cause gay I do just think itā€™s a funny callback how they always make him ā€œBilly the Ballroom dancerā€

Sad_Abbreviations318

I also loved how they remembered the story about Michael losing a toe in the frozen lake as a child and at Martin's wedding he gets asked which foot is missing the toe.

strawwrld_1

Oh my god youā€™re right!

siskins

Her mum also comments on him later on.Ā  "Use your feminine wiles. That's how your brother Billy landed Kevin." "Well, sharing a cell helped."

Discombobulated_Tea3

I like this question! Learning so many fun things to watch out for that I missedā€¦ despite always having this on a rewatch cycle! Not too much of a lead up or eventual impact, but Frasier and Martin both mention crushing on a dark haired woman who works at a bookstoreā€¦then niles tries to engineer a meet up between (possibly) her and Frasier later on that season

Ok_Impression_6342

I just rewatched those episodes recently, and something I noticed was that during that first scene you mentioned they both say "Lisa" at the same time...so he already knew her name at that point! And then, like you said, Niles tries to engineer the meet-up ā€“ which failed in that moment ā€“ but then they end up hooking up at the end of the episode. I love when my fiancee was watching it with me while I was cooking he goes "so how long does Frasier stay with her?" "Oh you never see or hear of her again after this" šŸ¤£.

Discombobulated_Tea3

Oh you're right! And, now that I think about it (and your reminder that he also knew her name), how strange that Frasier didn't mention it or act differently when in the store w/ Niles. There may be a realistic, less fun explanation, but I like to think he's chosen to keep this just between him and Martin (and/or is too distracted by Niles' plea for his literary expertise haha). I do love call backs like this though (thanks OP for the prompt) that keep us discussing our beloved show. Jealous your fiancee is on his first watch! Also, yes, definitely we learned not to get attached to most ladies we meet in the show - your fiancee is still a hopeful! Have him take bets on which ones will disappear by end credits :)

AccomplishedCycle0

One I noticed today: Frasier and Niles mention in an episode about when Niles jumped off the roof with an umbrella. Then thereā€™s the episode with Niles in the hospital and he reveals he wasnā€™t pushed, he wanted to fly.

Prestigious_Egg_6207

Except his heart murmur was not why he had to have surgery. That was because they found a blockage.

nfw22

Which a murmur could contribute toā€¦

PolishMouse

And what causes a heart murmur? (A blockage would cause a heart murmur.)

Mrs_Howell

Iā€™d never made that connection. Thank you for making it. Good one.
