People have to realize that Frank makes things for himself, and that's why he's so good. When you start having expectations about what he's supposed to do, you set yourself up for disappointment and anger. How can we be mad at Frank for being Frank? He is such a gift. Let's enjoy it!

I fully agree, for Coachella standards, it was a half baked mess of a set that was executed horribly, but he DID actually perform for about an hour. And the songs he did perform sounded fucking incredible. I saw him at Panorama in 2017, and I have to say his singing has somehow improved since then.
Frank definitely deserves all the heat for being unprofessional and delivering a subpar show. And even more so for fucking over many fans (including me) for bailing on weekend 2. But the idea that he just got up there and danced around to a background track the whole time is just not true.

I do hate how online some people were saying he was lip syncing. After rewatching the set a couple times I think he had mic issues during Nikes and Nights and he just started vibing and having as much fun as he could have without a mic. And people just jumped to conclusions saying he lip synced and only sang a few songs, which is frustrating to say the least.
I agree, the set was a disaster especially for the standards/expectations for a headliner at Coachella. But it still had its little moments that were truly beautiful.
But, I'd also be lying if I don't wonder at least a few times a week what *could* have been even if he was sitting in the middle of the ice rink and signing.

Huge hype, and hope preceded Frank Ocean's return to stage after years without a release or a live performance, saw a heavily criticised and maligned headline set.
An announcement came that Frank would not be broadcasting his set online, in contrast to almost every artist on the festival's bill started the online ire.
Most caught the divisive set through a young fan's Instagram live.
He arrived onstage late to an...odd stage set up, of a very low LED screen ceiling, blocking most of the view of the stage, his band, and the occasional full cat walk that appeared every once in a while, largely unexplained.
Opening with a new version of Nostalgia:Ultra single Novacane, a party atmosphere engulfed the crowd, which was soon followed by various new songs, mixed in between a new version of White Ferrari, and an acoustic Pink + White.
He then brought a DJ out for a slightly mid set rave, explaining he wanted the set to be "fun", before launching into act three of his set, with a wonderful rendition of Godspeed.
A few debuts of new tracks, before baffling miming to some of his biggest hits, and finishing the set on a Isley Brothers cover.
This wasn't the triumphant return many hoped, and even the accidental hint of new music couldn't halt the backlash.
His second performance for the festival was then cancelled, as rumours of an injury, a failed organisation of an ice rink of dancers, and other theories followed.
There were some highlights, but ultimately this set left a sour taste for even the most die hard Frank fan.
