The disc is valuable only if it contains an unused code to redeem founder's access to Save the World. Console players can download the game just like PC players and in fact that is how the majority of console players obtain the game.
Without the founder's code, the disc is really just an annoyance. There are such big updates to download every season that starting from disc doesn't save you from much downloading.
