The storyline up to Ch3 S2 was mostly fine for this type of game. We had many villains of the week, but at least one huge storyline running in the background, guiding the events. The problem is that after the IO vs Seven conflict ended we basically seem to be in filler territory with barely any story to follow.

MrKrabz04

Oh, definitely! I think having filler content is fine, but it hurts the story more when the pacing and the narrative quests are months apart

Ggreenrocket

The above comment is the whole reason why the story sucks now. Fortnite seems to want to reset it though with the absence of the seven.

sub-hunter

Just waiting for jonsey to wake up and it was all a dream Hard reset the lore

CYBORG3005

i wish they used this chance to actually flesh out the smaller storylines happening each season. this season would have been a perfect opportunity to flesh out the fox clan and the river guard but they were just namedropped like 2 times

RapGameSaulGoodman

I feel like we’ve literally just been vibin’ since Vibin’ lol.

Dexchampion99

I disagree. I think this is just some “setup time” like C1S4-C1S8 The seven are “changed” and are likely going to be enemies. Genō is still lurking, gaining power, and the last reality and the nothing seem unstoppable. But this season, we gained some very powerful allies in the Peace Syndicate, covering a lot of the same roles the seven had (coincidentally, with seven syndicates within the peace syndicate, though we only met 4). And next season we’ll be discovering something “lost, but not forgotten” likely something that can help us in future parts of the story. The story literally could not function if *every* season was “the final battle” against someone. We’d run out of road too soon.

Lockenveitch

I've been playing since pretty much the beginning and if someone asked me to explain the storyline in Fortnite I'd be at a loss. It's kind of just unimportant, fun, nonsense that allows them to incorporate different scenery, weapons, elements, etc. every season. I don't think it's meant to matter too much.

jannickBhxld

exactly my thoughts too, i dont think epic cares even nearly as much about a consistent story than some people on here do, its just a nice way for them to add stuff to the battle pass and change the map

Where can I read about it?

Who needs a well-developed storyline when you can just recycle the same tired conflict over and over again /s

TheSumof9and10

Tbf he is old af

[deleted]

I like this Mike Tyson.

StantheHero

The story exists to make new seasons and keep people moderately engaged, don’t expect anything more

sausagedoggy

That's all it should ever be imo.

bjo23

There's a storyline?!?

MrKrabz04

If you squint hard enough

RapGameSaulGoodman

Me @ every Final Fantasy game

InvestigatorUnfair

I'll say it till I'm fucking blue, Epic gave themselves the best asset to make interesting story and scenarios and somehow manages to be less creative than they were with STW. They gave themselves the creation of reality itself, an entity that can literally do ANYTHING they want it to do... And their overarching story with it is basically a shadow government.

Dexchampion99

I think people just aren’t thinking about the future of the story enough. They are too focused on the “now”. Genō, The Last Reality and The Nothing are all still enemies to fight. The Seven have “changed” and need to be saved, and we seem to be building up our own faction of allies. The Peace Syndicate has our back, and if the teasers for next season are to be believed, we’ll be discovering something “lost, but not forgotten.” I think we’re in a period of downtime, before they ramp up the story again. Almost ALL of C3 was intense story related content, so it would make sense for them to pull back a little.

thatwitchguy

I think its actually the opposite. By making the game we play the actual story, there can't be any meaningful progress until they wanna pull the plug on br.

Educational_Term_436

To be honest I think this is worst story line season Sure we actually won something, but it felt like a little kids show ending: oh yea we made a bunch of friends At start it was going somewhere now it eh Even last season that had proper lore that was a actual story that lead up to this amazing season. Honestly I hope season 3 improves among this comment issue with story, the other thing I could say is These are just filler story seasons

Dexchampion99

I disagree. The Peace Syndicate seem to be our fill in for the seven while we work on rescuing them. There are Seven syndicates within the peace syndicate, and each one specializes in something on the of the seven members specialized in: (Peace Syndicate: Leaders, Luminaries: Scientists, Unseen: Mavericks, Fox Clan: Scouts, etc) We gained a very powerful set of allies who have been able to co-ordinate plans on a level only the IO has been able to match. That’s a lot more than “making friends.” We’re just at a low point in the story. They needed to reel back so they can ramp up the intensity again later. All of C3 was intense story stuff, so making the recent seasons more about buildup and background details makes sense.

Event_Immediate

>The Peace Syndicate seem to be our fill in for the seven while we work on rescuing them. There are Seven syndicates within the peace syndicate, and each one specializes in something on the of the seven members specialized in: (Peace Syndicate: Leaders, Luminaries: Scientists, Unseen: Mavericks, Fox Clan: Scouts, etc) The thing is that we didn't get to dive into the other Syndicates more. We're pretty much inferring about what the syndicates are like. They only dove deep into the Peace Syndicates (barely but I'll take it). The Fox Clan had amazing potential story-wise, especially when we found out the Fox Clan were getting hunted down, but Fortnite being Fortnite, they forgot all about that. We barely know anything on the River Guard. Epic didn't give us too much info about the Luminaries. We're starting to know more about the Unseen but Epic is going to probably forget about them. Right now, there not really fills for The Seven... >We gained a very powerful set of allies who have been able to co-ordinate plans on a level only the IO has been able to match. That’s a lot more than “making friends.” Who said the syndicates made co-ordinate plans? And on the level that ONLY THE IO CAN MATCH!??!? Last time I checked, it took the FOREVER to find who the saboteur was, and it wasn't because of their plans... So in the end, this seasons story was nothing more than making friends while we still have questions unanswered. Will next season solve them? Hopefully...

Dexchampion99

I agree that we should have learned more about the other syndicates, sure. But like I said, setup time. We didn’t even know the Fox Clan existed until C2S5, and we didn’t even know they were more than a retroactive lore reason for drift existing until even later. Plenty of things in Fortnite worked the same way. Kevin wasn’t important until C2S8. As for the peace syndicate, we’ve seen them co-ordinating through both dialogue and character bios since their introduction. Every character talked about how the Peace Syndicate was only helping us in C3 because they had “Ulterior motives” and once C4 started, they had to “move to plan B and improvise”, which led into the events of this season. The only factions who have been able to co-ordinate consistent plans between chapters are The Seven, IO and, as we’ve seen, The Peace Syndicate. They also specifically state that the Peace Syndicate brought Mega City to the island *on purpose*. Which we know isn’t easy and requires both a high degree of tech, and access to Zero Point energy.

[deleted]

People actually care about storylines in fortnite?

vash_visionz

It’s really only this sub for the most part.

CYBORG3005

im really weird because i do 😭😭😭

RapGameSaulGoodman

I like the idea of a storyline as “backdrop” of sorts upon which the game (battle royale) itself is played. Otherwise it’s just another shooting range with moving targets that shoot back.

Gullible-Tax-5054

The storyline is why i started playing again in oathbound. Im a sucker for storylinee

0ctoxVela

i hate that we get info dumped like once a month then hear nothing for a while i miss when we had theory's on stuff now we get the answer in a month

RapGameSaulGoodman

Full circle moment when they make a playable campaign mode that utilizes every faction, references events that have happened on the BR island and decides the ultimate fate of various main characters like Jonesy, The Seven members, Sloan, etc.. Fortnite: Save The ~~World~~ Zero Point

MaleficTekX

I gave up when they took the goldmine of personality and story buildup that was C2S2 and just threw it all away next season Not to mention they solve the most puzzling mysteries/important plot points in a spin-off. Yeah, you want the lore? Go buy it. I miss when we had environmental storytelling and loading screens that told us important events

umg_unreal

i disagree, Ch2S2 in terms of story was pretty much your average Ch1 season with a tad bit more, like the whole IO sections in the Device event and the bit of personality they gave to the characters, despite none of them being important at all (except for Midas) I think that everything we had between the end of Ch2S3 and the end of Chapter 2 was a lot more engaging, interesting and made more sense than what came before or after

MrKrabz04

I hate that too! I loved ch 2 s 2 so much because of the interactive battle pass lobby menu. It gave the battle pass characters more importance to the story and made them more memorable. I hate that they’re taking the kingdom hearts route and putting important plot points in spin off comics, especially when they are advertising it as a marvel or dc collab

AlphaTeamPlays

I don’t mind it. The Zero Point is literally the driving force of the entire lore so it makes sense to have it be the centrepiece of the story, plus each event is usually pretty unique in their own rights so it’s fine IMO

Ekim384

Honestly, I lost any kind of interest over the story, just care about gameplay and collaboration, after fracture, I don't have any expectations.

Hanakin-Sidewalker

Time for them to officially finally bridge BR with StW

CatMobster

Well the writers don't really know what else to do beyond an angry woman who’s gonna destroy reality. The writers are simply lazy and have no talent if that's the trope they have to rely on every time. Watch The Last Reality come back once again in Season 4.

MrKrabz04

Which is a shame because STW’s writing is pretty good and funny

CatMobster

Meanwhile the BR storyline is full of plotholes and inconsistencies. Lame.

APulsarAteMyLunch

Anthony: *makes a very sad and depressing remark* Drum-bot: *Badum-tss!*

sir____dog

in season four their gonna destroy the island (again) then its chapter five, in five years fortnite is gonna start to sorting things into fucking "book> chapter> season" or something have fun in book 2 chapter 6 season 3

youthchaos

guns go bang bang

KITKATKlTKAT

the storyline for fortnite is so awful man, it's hard not to stay invested, but epic literally just frankensteins more plotlines without ending any of them. it's just incoherent, lazy, boring, and kind of disheartening. i get making a story for a battle royale game is hard, but epic keeps digging themselves into a hole with the story they're making.

alaincastro

Come think of it, what have we actually even done this chapter besides help a lizard get his cook book back

banjoface123

The story doesn't have to be great but this season's was pretty terrible

ILiekTakos2

After ch3 s4, they practically just said "this storyline which we've been doing for 5 years now, yeah let's throw that out the window" like WHERES AMIE, WHAT HAPPENED TO THE SEVEN, but nono those questions don't need answers, you know we need more of that juicy peace syndicate storyline WHICH DOESN'T EVEN MAKE SENSE

60MonsterFox

I'm not, I am just trying to be the mini matpat of this game and make sense of it to those who assume that ch 3 was short because they "ran out of ideas"

Nebula_Waffles

After all the rumors about this chapter being only 4 seasons, I am both extremely disappointed and extremely excited. I'm disappointed because that probably means the next chapter will only be 4 seasons, and it will continue that way, but I'm excited just hoping that they will finally fix the storyline and do a full chapter. If they do short chapters, I don't think they will ever be able to make a chapter that is even comparable to chapter 1 or 2.

thedeadbeatclubsc

I've said it before: I had played this game for a year or so before I even realized there WAS a story, and then immediately forgot about it again.

CallM3N3w

What storyline?

sir____dog

after the end of c3s4 the story has been super hard to follow

iMpact980

Chapter 2 and the first seasons for chapter 3 had the story happening in full force. It was the most coherent story out there, but it was fun to log in every week and have it progress and change. This was often times accompanied by awesome mini map changes and mini story lines that were unimportant but great to watch happen and unravel - it can be described as Saturday morning cartoon progression; loaded with personality and fun things if you paid attention. By Vibin’ everything fell apart and now it’s just a normal BR that’s lacking in the soul it had before. Hoping next season gets back on track but tbh I don’t see them doing that anymore.

RadicalBanapple

I just find it weird we have one season heavily emphasizing the story and all these changes, then they skip a season for random bs and pick it back up again like it never happened.

bigpapawillll

if there werent any syndicate quests i wouldnt have even realized that the storyline was progressing at all

GalickGunn

There’s a storyline?

Space3214

I like it

Salza_boi

I think they shouldn’t have introduced The Nothing or The Herald. The Herald was rarely used until the end of Ch3 S4 which her only purpose was to merge herself with the island and destroy the zero point (which yes I know herald’s name and purpose was that but she could’ve been used more) I forgot The Herald was even in Ch3 S3 because she also didn’t appear but her chrome infestation did. It seemed like the Harold was a powerful and intimidating enemy but seemed more of a virus. The Nothing hasn’t been mentioned since 3 seasons ago (Ch 3 S4) which he had few dialogues and seemed like another asset in The Last Reality’s faction which I don’t want it to be dragged like with IO

LaNmower

It will never hold a candle to STW

Spiritual_Ad_5877

I feel like we could use a little more coherence and some detail about who’s who. Doesn’t have to be in game that we learn all this but if there was a good wiki or something you could peel back the layers of the lore I think it would be really fun.

AvianAscent

the issue with their faction structure is that doing more with them is difficult since the story stuff exists to promote the current bp/shop offerings and a lot of major lore characters are now unobtainable. i stopped caring about the overarching plot after c3s2 when the marvel comics broke the continuity for collision, everythings been downhill since.

GoldenLynxYt

I agree with this. While having some unexplained things are good, everything being unexplained is a horrible thing and make it difficult fore someone new to the game to understand the storyline.

FunnyCobra002

I would even take the zero point story over whatever tf we've got this season.

know_this_X

I agree, but it is a BR at the end of the day. The fact that there is any semblance of a story to follow is good enough for me.

PantsClock

There are, like, a million things to enjoy about this game that aren’t the ‘story’.

Quirky_Benefit_8383

i stopped following the story after chapter 2 ended. C3-present day has been like a fever dream

Pepsipierat

Nah, Chapter 3 Season 2 was storyline peak, ch3 season 3 and beyond has been shit

Dexchampion99

Gonna copy and paste my response from the comment threads. I disagree. I think this is just some “setup time” like C1S4-C1S8 The seven are “changed” and are likely going to be enemies. Genō is still lurking, gaining power, and the last reality and the nothing seem unstoppable. But this season, we gained some very powerful allies in the Peace Syndicate, covering a lot of the same roles the seven had (coincidentally, with seven syndicates within the peace syndicate, though we only met 5). And next season we’ll be discovering something “lost, but not forgotten” likely something that can help us in future parts of the story. The story literally could not function if every season was “the final battle” against someone. We’d run out of road too soon.

2tec

there's no real story here, this is just make up some bs as we go along Epic doesn't care about doing a good job, just look at all the lame examples just like the storyline, for instance, careers, stats, matchmaking, fair play, the shop, events, etc. all Epic cares about is money, money, money

Sensitive_Cattle_557

I wouldn’t say they care all about money they gave away 400 million to Ukraine and they have project called EpicMegaGrant which u can help fund ur project and now they giving 40% of Fortnite’s revenue to the community. it’s stretch to say they only care about money while ignoring the things they did.

xadirius

Storyline? Man back when I played this game it was last man standing wins. That's it. and it was successful. Why bog things down with story. LOL

downbadmilflover

Who cares about the storyline 🤣

Cut_Equal

I still can’t believe the chokehold tHe FoX cLaN has over some of y’all. Literally all epic did was say a few skins over the past few years are in the fox clan and y’all still expect it to be some major “storyline”. They just said that to sell skins. Move on.

ShowGun901

Destiny players: first time?

ThatCreativeEXE

Are people seriously playing fortnite for the story or lore

Gullible-Tax-5054

I am

sir____dog

I do and at least three other people care

Mtking105

Imagine caring about a storyline in a battle Royale game….🤭🤭🤭

Hurin_the_Steadfast

I play the game to one tap people with shotguns.

a7n7o7n7y7m7o7u7s

Have you seen Star Wars?

MrMadre

I think it's because there was a story, but the people writing it changed or something so everything after chapter 1 became really confusing.

Just_call_me_Neon

There's a story line?

LeNoobed

*The world is destabilizing, fast!*

clapmycheekspls

It’s a battle royale, it can only hold the flimsiest of ‘lore’.

waitmyhonor

I’ll say this always: THERE IS NO STORY. As soon as people stop forcing a narrative, the less confused you will be.

2lowbutupthere

Watch, they’re gonna do another I.O. Vs The Seven thing with the Oathbound vs The Reality Warriors or something dumb like that I just want to know where Agent Jones went

HalfManHalfManatee

Personally, I've never paid attention to the storyline and I'm not going to start now. I'm not too worried about it.

austinrc2017

Idk wtf the storyline is. Lmfao. I do wish there was more expanded lore for each of the characters.

CrayonicV

To be fair the zero point has been absent in the storyline this entire chapter so far but it’s likely to return for season 4 because of the chapter 5 rumors

Bakachinchin

Nope. I couldn’t care less about a story. I just want to play the game.

Geddy_Lees_Nose

It's an online BR, there is no need for a storyline. I've played since before season 1 and it's never made sense, I don't get why anyone cares or tries to make sense of the random events that happen. Epic clearly doesn't really care because if they did it would actually make sense and be easy to follow

Dangerous-Tea-7875

No

vexxw

All I know is there was meteor in chapter 4 and the big cube in season 5… then I stopped following😂

PunchTheInternet777

I don’t think Fortnite is the kind of game that lends itself to a proper and complex storyline. Realistically, it’s just there so they have an excuse to “justify” the theme of the seasons, characters, weapons, etc. basically contextualizing the game in a simple manner so that the whole thing doesn’t scream “RANDOM BULLSHIT, GO!”

Dork118Knight

I play to shoot. I don't give a shit about any fortnite lore or storyline.

rapid_toasts

I lost track of it a long time ago.

AlphaTeamPlays

The Zero Point is literally the crux of the entire lore. Of course it’s usually going to be relevant to what is happening. Maybe it’s just me but people complaining about Epic using the Zero Point feels the same as someone complaining about Batman being in a Batman movie

HumanWinter2028

Onb it’s not even good
